Well, good wonderful beautiful morning Pawdience.
Jamie's trying to clean up some sand out of the camper here and Kira's helping.
I don't know if that's a help.
Maybe.
Go keep doing that.
That's the direction.
No, that's not.
She's like, I'll pull it this way and then you fling it the other way.
Let go my broom.
She's never seen a broom before.
I can't do anything.
She's like, no, I love this thing.
I guess it'll be like speed sweeping.
Oh, you got a big chunk of it down.
Oh, I never had a broom before.
Your broom is pretty new.
It's still pretty gross though.
She's like, I don't care. This is great. I love it.
Memphis.
Memphis is scratching her foot.
Are you scratching your foot?
Memphis, hey.
Get the scratches for you.
Good morning.
She's like, good morning guys.
Good morning.
Oh hush. Be good.
Alright, we have packed up some lunch for today.
We're kind of doing a day trip today.
So I brought the dogs their lunch.
I packed some stuff in the cooler for Jamie and I.
And we're going to go out and hit the road today.
Look at the lake this morning.
I took the dogs for their walk this morning.
And I didn't grab the camera and I should have.
Because it was foggy and it was eerie looking.
Thankfully most of the fog has lifted.
The trees are not as colored here
as I really thought they would be.
But usually by the lake they're not as colored.
What? Are you ready?
We're almost ready. We're getting there.
Okay guys, this is our first stop.
It's the cliff mine area.
If you want to read some information on it,
pause the video and go ahead and read the sign.
It's pretty interesting.
And this area where we're at
is just beautiful.
You see the cliffs up there?
And the colored trees of course.
Alright you guys, so
I have video of this from
ten years ago Jamie.
Ten years ago since we've done this.
We were here last year with Charles
but the water was way too high and we couldn't
actually make it across.
I would say, I don't even think last year
that this post on the side were in the water.
Oh yeah, they were. Were they?
Yep, I can show you. Ten years ago were they?
I don't know if they were ten years ago
but they were last year. I have pictures of it.
So Cliff Mine Cemetery is across
this little bit of water.
So we're going.
It's all hard gravel.
Hopefully. Oh it is.
Right here. Not over there.
Right there looks kind of swampy.
Alright, let's go.
I don't know how deep it is. We don't know how deep it is.
And we're going. There's fish in the water.
Little baby fish. This is where it starts to get deep.
I was going to say, as long as you keep moving, we're good.
There's a big rock.
That's so cool.
Boarding the river.
Jeep life, baby.
Jeep life.
So we crossed the river.
And now we're going down this trail apparently.
We don't know where it goes
but we're going to go this way for a little bit.
See what we can find.
So if we had a four-wheeler
we could make it.
But we can't make it in this.
Yep, I'm going to say that's a no
a go.
We might be able to turn around.
There's a big rock next to us too so
we might have to back out. We don't know.
I think I'll probably just end up backing up.
The trail keeps going but we can't keep going that way.
Maybe we'll walk it.
Hi.
So this is the cliff
mine area. What you guys can see
here is all of the rock
that they took out of this
mountain I guess.
I guess it's a mountain.
It's a cliff.
So from the sign back there
where they were saying where they mined
this is where they mined and all of this rock
came out of the inside of that cliff.
It's pretty neat.
We're not going to walk up there.
We have before but we're not going to do that today.
And if I'm not mistaken
there's another cliff half that size
further up.
But you can't see it because this cliff is so big.
Yeah, I think you're right.
Pretty cool. There's a lot of mines up here.
This is one of the cool
ones I always like to stop by.
So we're on
the side of the road. There's a little
pull off and I can see
through the trees and we decided
to pull over. I don't think we've ever stopped here.
I don't think we've stopped at this point.
It's a lot like the waterfall
up the road a little bit.
But we can get closer here.
The roots here are really cool.
I'm like we gotta go check this out.
This is so neat.
Look there's a little pool here. Want to drink a river water?
There's a little pool over here.
Come get a drink of your river water.
Whoa down here.
Down there. There you go.
Well that wasn't the plan
but okay.
I got a plan.
We made it. I couldn't film
while doing it because I didn't want to fall.
We just went across that.
Look now you can actually
get to the water.
Whoa guys.
Check this out.
This is so fun.
Watch yourself. You'll fall in.
It's deeper
than you think.
Just like whoa.
This is fun. What do you think Miss Memphis?
Wow this is really
pretty right here.
I'm going to have to take some pictures.
What do you smell huh?
Oh you're eating the grass. You too huh?
Alright let's figure out
how to get back over there.
I see that.
Like they took cores out.
It could be that
or they planned on breaking it
or maybe there was a bridge across here
at one time. Maybe. I don't know.
But you're probably right. It looks like they took cores out of that.
I don't know. That is weird.
Let's go.
So this here is Jacob Falls
and it's right along the side of the road.
Right up the road from here is the
Jam Pot.
This is a very
pretty waterfall.
It's right on the side of the road.
You can actually walk up and there's like
more waterfall up there but
right here is about perfect.
I didn't get the
dogs out for this one. Just wanted to enjoy it.
So we have
made it to
Lake Fanny Ho.
This is Lake Fanny Ho.
I wasn't sure if this was an inlet to the
big lake or not. Nope. This is Lake Fanny Ho.
And we're at Fort Wilkins.
So we're up here in Copper Harbor
and this is the
historic Fort Wilkins
site. We're wandering around with the
dogs and realizing it's a lot warmer
than we thought it was going to be today.
Only in the sun. Yeah.
Come on. Let's get moving
and see some stuff.
So each of these buildings
is set up
just like they used to be.
Dogs are not allowed in. You're not
allowed in the buildings. Sorry.
Not allowed in the buildings.
So we thought we'd kind of
peek in here and check out some of the historic
stuff in here. I like the playing
cards and the checkers on the table.
Old dominoes. Look at those beds.
Can you imagine sleeping on those beds?
Does not look comfy.
You are so interested in the smells
in here. Hey. Hey.
Alright. Dogs out of the building.
So this is
inside of another one of the buildings.
Jamie's outside
with the dogs since they're not allowed in here.
I thought I would show you this.
This room is cool.
So if you get... Oh, look at this.
All the tools.
These were tools they used
to fix wounds.
That's
some scary stuff.
As always you guys
if you want to read the signs, I'll try
to hold this still for a second
and you can pause it and read it.
This was like
the hospital I guess.
Where people stayed
when they had
injuries and stuff.
Look at these beds. I can't get over how tiny
they are. The ward
room. That's what this is.
Outbreak. The first cases
of... Oh wow.
That's pretty cool.
I always like old stuff like this.
Meet the doctors.
Pretty neat, huh? And then they got more
stuff in here. So this was the hospital.
The post hospital.
Pretty neat.
Alright. Where's my dogs?
There they are. So I guess this is
the store. I'm going inside.
Oh yeah.
That's cool.
Check that out.
There's where you can get your whiskey.
That's pretty neat.
Neats
hanging. They're not real. They're fake.
But you know. That's pretty
cool.
Barrels of apples.
Yeah. That's a pretty cool building.
Yeah. It says here
that he was
notably well supplied.
And army officer noted
not only of the necessities
but the luxuries too. Yeah. There's some
neat stuff in there. He brought up
a bunch of stuff.
Look at the old bins.
They used to come up and create. They're in there
if you want to go see them.
Kind of neat.
Alright. Let's keep on trucking.
Can you play the drums?
We'll push that in a minute.
This is like a little
set up of what
the whole place looked like.
That's pretty cool.
See all the little houses.
The blacksmith shops.
Guarding the fort.
Getting supplies. Alright. Which one do we want?
Let's do the dinner call.
That's pretty cool.
Are you ready for dinner?
That's the dinner call.
There's a breakfast call too.
They all sound the same to me.
Alright. Get out of the building.
So this
is the
hottest place in town.
The blacksmith shop.
They would
use hot coals over there.
There's the anvil.
Look at that vise.
I think every year
they have a bunch of
people come recreate
the whole fort.
They do demonstrations up here.
I'm pretty sure
we saw somebody
working here.
Is that a bear trap?
That's crazy.
That's pretty neat.
We might have seen somebody working here before.
There's a grinding wheel over here.
Alright.
Okay Puppers.
Ready to go get bounced down the road?
Look at the fence on the side here.
The big points
on the top of it.
You're not jumping napkins without impaling yourself.
Alright Puppers.
Let's go.
I don't know if you guys can see it.
You can definitely tell it's water there.
This is a mine shaft.
They actually found copper out here.
That's pretty neat.
Are you going to find some copper for me Puppers?
I found a
copper coin with a wolf on it.
I was all excited.
Alright.
Here's the sign.
Copper discovered here in 1844.
I don't know if you can see the
quartz in this rock.
That's part of the natural rock here.
That's so cool.
Alright. Back to the car.
