Invicta showcases a massive 2v3 defense of the uniquely structured settlement of Petra, pitting Egyptian and Seleucid forces against
Hey, what's up guys, it's Oakley and we are gonna be having a awesome awesome siege
Massive siege myself and any pride defending against three armies
so three verses to you guys know how these usually go and this is gonna be on the
Settlement of Petra deep in the desert. It's a really cool settlement
and we are gonna be
Assaulted basically in our main citadel. So before we get in on the action too far. Let's go ahead and address the
City settlement defenses. So the main citadel is up here. You have a lot of these walls these
This is one of the coolest cities for defending. I've ever seen huge avenues to defend you can put archers up through here
It's got courtyards to fight and you can actually fight within this courtyard. We'll be doing that later
Romans pushing up on this flank again another massive open area
Then the rest of the city kind of stretches on the capture point is all the way back here in this long stretch of
territory, but it seems like the
Athenians the Carthaginians and the Romans have decided to assault our main
Stronghold here, which is good for us. They're gonna hit us where we're strongest. So that's perfect
So let's get some nice pans of the approaching armies. They've all converged on us
So I'm be playing as the Egyptians
Indies gonna be playing as the Salukids I believe so we have done something to piss off the various factions of the Mediterranean
So they're closing in on us
Man look how cool the settlement is
Unassailable on this front besides just one gate the rest defended by these cliff sides really cool
So here comes just a group of auxiliary units pushing up on the other side of this gate
We have a whole bunch of defenses set up. We have
spike traps
Flaming balls as always more troops over here
Chariots getting ready scorpions getting in position and on this front you can actually watch
Some of these
Armored tortoise units start moving up and I actually recently got a book from Osprey publishing that talks about siege equipment of the ancient world
And there was a whole section about the actual construction of this particular siege engine and many other siege engines with it
So I may actually be doing some sort of history video on that in the future. We'll recover
You know, how were these siege engines actually built? What were their sizes?
Because when I first saw this I was like, there's no way this is real
But yeah, people were crazy
So the main assault is coming on here
Pushing forward towards our gates. These siege towers have kind of fanned out for Carthage. They're gonna be pushing on our wall
So the attack is gonna be coming from multiple fronts
Our scorpion unit over here is unleashing on the Romans
We're gonna go ahead and take a look at as it cuts swaths through the testudo, you know testudo is a fine piece of Roman
tactical deployment but in the face of
Scorpion units and we'll watch a couple more shots as they tear through here. It's just gonna mean a juicier target
So we are shredding these I believe avocado units. So yeah, perfect for us
Sorry, the defenders are kicking ass
Attackers are moving up
And this is a really really cool view. Look at these siege towers rolling up against the walls over there
The gates are gonna be going down. So the Romans are now at the walls
Siege towers are gonna be going around this side. I don't think you can mount on these walls
They were hoping to do just that the Romans actually pushing forward
Although they could position themselves with the scorpion here to rain fire on our guys
So this is gonna be an ominous view for our troops
Let's actually watch from this position as you just see siege towers rumbling on by getting ready to flank you
So that is the main assault on that front
Over here. The Carthaginians are unloading up on the top
For the time being I'm allowing them to capture some of these areas. I don't want to lose too many men
And so I have some range
Units that I sent up against the wall
and what their task is going to be is to move into this position and start firing into some of those troops up on
the wall over there and
They're gonna do an about-face as they try and pull out of this position now that we're kind of surrounded
But they are gonna get a couple shots off into these units
So we're forcing them to chase after us. So up on these walls is gonna be dangerous
See if they're able to catch my men
It's like a couple guys double-taking who and they're gonna be able to get out of there just in time
So we're baiting them in away from capturing the tower. So I believe yep the tower
I don't know the tower is captured so I didn't bait them well enough
But where we are gonna be baiting them is into the field of fire of some of my mercenary Cretan archers
So as our archers run away on the wall
We can fire at them and they're gonna know that this was a trap
So now they're exposed on the walls and we're gonna start picking apart their units. So that's going pretty well for us
Archers have done their job. The main assault on these gates is going pretty well
Actually, if we look down at the gates is now getting smashed. So it's going down back here
We've attacked some of the mercenary noble fighters
So they've pushed through and on this front over here. Actually, they've broken through with these huge tortoise ramps and
Militia hoplites are gonna be pushing through here. We have a couple units thrown in the mix. Nothing much
Mostly just fought our units to hold them at bay
some units
Had tried to contest this gatehouse by you know, sending troops up the wall. So this siege tower is burning
So they're gonna be trying to capture this siege tower
However, we have all of our archers in that position who can quickly shower them
So we're trying to reposition most of the shots going down into the area here
So you can see where we're holding out the rules for this game were basically just one pike max per force
So don't tell me that's not an epic view
So we got pikes holding out here arrows raining down from both sides siege towers and siege equipment in the background
That is some epic stuff. So this is gonna be a great position for us to hold out
However, the enemy is raining in a lot of fire on us. So this could prove devastating
But man, you guys have to try the siege out. It is super cool. So that's this front
We have some swordsmen in the back trying to hold out
But now they're having to deal with troops coming down from the siege ladder and now they've neutralized this tower
in the distance
Our guys are trying to hold out desperately against the militia
So there's so many of those guys
Militia hot plates we have again the high ground
So all of our arrows are getting sunk into these cheap units just good for our opponents
It means that they're more sturdy units holding out in the back
Are not taking any fire they even have more units waiting in those siege towers just lined up
and
This is even scarier because take a look at this
These siege towers are just plopped up here. The scorpions on top are gonna be taking potshots at our units
So some of our guys up on the walls are actually starting to take considerable amounts of fire
From this is just a huge firing position and this is a good example of what they would have done
In real life siege towers were not just meant for putting men on the walls immediately. They were towers to get better
Arcs of fire and clear the defenders from the wall. So that's exactly what they're doing here
So that's that front on this front. The Romans have charged through we did get a couple of the flaming balls off
but it was not enough the Romans just continued to pour through and
They have avocado units against our guys. So they should be doing pretty well
And the gate house has actually been lost. So those towers are now gonna be firing against our units
We did get a good flanking position. Look at all those dead men. That was a javelin volley in the rear
So we're trying to reposition getting ready for the sides chariots to move up over here
Roman tree re are up on the wall, but they don't really have much backup support
So I've been firing at them kind of slowly and steadily
with my Cretans
Watch those shots land. I'm not gonna fire too much into these units just because they are heavily armed in
The meantime this noble calf tried to push through the gate house that we lost over in that front. So we did lose this
Gatehouse the Carthaginians are gonna be pouring in Indy deployed is Indian armored elephants
But because the enemy has siege that has seized the towers the elephants are gonna be running amok actually
So we lost control of them. They're gonna be running amok at the staircase leading up to our Citadel
So definitely this is a good place for them to rampage through and hit units
But overall it's not gonna be good for us because they're caught rampaging
in the line of sight of some archers
Towers and these Cretans are running up and immediately shooting our guys in the back
So our heavily armored troops are gonna be going down and the problem with this is we have a lot of guys lost
Kind of in this area now as the Romans punched through they're threatening our rear a couple of our guys got outside of the you know
the protective
Embrace of our units and they got isolated
So one unit is backed against the wall cornered nowhere to go. The Romans are now seizing this position fully flooding in
Chariots still circling around waiting for the correct time on this front. The pressure has been
Overwhelming Carthaginians pouring down from the wall are now gonna be getting our units in the back. Our archers are mostly pulling out
We still have a couple units trying to fire into the enemy lines, but incoming enemy fire is gonna be forcing us back
So the suppressive towers have just destroyed us. And so now we're forced to yield a really good position
So here we go pulling back
But like I said, this is problematic because we're pushed back on that front
The Romans are on this front they charged through with their equities chasing our guys away
So here comes the chariots. They're gonna try and do something against these units
But they have Balearic slingers positioned nicely up on top of those walls
Looks like he's actually gonna pull out of that. I think he was trying to bait out some of those jabs
So that's probably a good move. The Balearics up here was just perfect
They're gonna be in overwatch to protect the gatehouse as the Romans move forward methodically
We do have scorpion units over there
Gonna be firing into these Romans, but now they're gonna be executing their push forward
What we've decided to do is pull away into this courtyard
So the chariots are gonna try and counter assault buy us time to move back those units there are overwhelmed
Our units here don't really have a shot of retreating. So it's a cool Plaza, which is two ways in right over there
and through here
So we're gonna be pulling back some archers and some infantry. We're gonna try and hold out against the Roman legions
Hoping that they don't see us
You can see the chariots on the outside trying to rampage through these units
But with the towers and Balearics and support these chariots really not doing what they need to despite having an open
Area to fight from legions are gonna be moving forward seizing this position
So we're getting absolutely shellacked and wrecked side chariots with 44 kills definitely not paying for themselves
Here come the Athenians on this front the Romans are pushing forward
I do have a fair amount of troops held in reserve the units up on the wall
I've been isolating them captured the tower and I had archer so I've destroyed anything on the walls in
This front triari were trying to push forward held them at bay with my pikemen and now that they're kind of caught not able
to move
I'm firing arrows into them. I'm shooting them with scorpions point-blank
So this is a easy target
So I'm gonna try and not waste all my ammo mostly because I know there's better targets coming up
So I think I'm gonna be yeah
Whittling away these triari. I'm gonna put some moves on them soon
But for the most part it is a full-on evacuation out of the keep some of our archers trying to do that
However, that sacred band is gonna come and block us. We've lost that front entirely. Let's go ahead and
Watch the evacuation into this courtyard. This is gonna be her laugh last safe stronghold
I love how you can only get in here from two ways. So this is quite the ambush
Led some Romans in here. I'm gonna wait till they're drawn in and then we're gonna just javelin them right in the side
So I'm gonna let Indy pride attack those guys
The Romans are trying to push through here archers trying to shoot at them with some low arc of fire
And now I'm gonna try and pin them. So this is desperate
We're holding them at both passes with archers and support
Fighting in the colonnade right there is so cool. This is why this siege is awesome
I've never really played a battle like this. I'm sure it's getting super close to the action, but this is so cool. Look at this
It's almost like we're we're fighting
indoors
I'm throwing and destroying these native Egyptian troops. So this is not good more Romans have been
Summoned to take out this area
Trying to get their shots in here a couple of them actually peppering our guys from the flank
So we are getting absolutely shredded. Holy crap. Look at all that Balearic slinger fire and look at the position
They're firing from over there
Look how much damage that's doing it is raining. It's coming right at the camera. That is absurd
and that is because they have
Yeah, a couple full units firing into our guys. So now we're gonna charge into this breach
They had more tree already trying to push in through there
We're starting to lose men. The last hope of our guys is to perhaps turn around these archers
So they're gonna fire their last couple bolts
Right to the flank of the Romans
The rest of our troops perhaps trying to make way but the tree re over there as guards are gonna cut them off and counter
Charge us. So this is an absolute slaughter a couple of my guys still holding strong, but I don't think they're gonna make it
Yeah, our guys right there charging into the retreating into the waiting arms of the tree re
and our archers
They are done for
So we watch a little bit of the the action as it happens here
But essentially it is a slaughter. So that is it. We've lost this position and look at the chaos more
Of the Athenians pushing forward. We've tried to extradite some of
Indy's
Archers and whatnot, but they have been
Slaughtered in the pools of water
Legionnaires being victorious claiming the top here. But again, this is not the final area that they have to capture
So now they're gonna be streaming forward combined forces running over the dead. They're gonna be pushing up
Over here. I've been able to destroy everything on my side, but admittedly most of the troops were you know?
Sent to storm the the Citadel over here even more of the Athenians still present in the back lines veteran hoplites
Therios thorax swordsman a lot of units and the
hoplite thorax hoplite general in the back
So now they're gonna concentrate forces. They're being careful to seize all the towers and they're gonna push up
I've gone ahead and pulled up some of my archers so we can cover our troops over here
The Romans have their shields up and they're gonna be trying to draw our fire
So I believe I'm gonna tell my guys to hold fire and wait for better targets
The rest of my troops are gonna be forced to pull back
Mostly because the enemy tower has been retaken by our opponents. I had come in here and tried to contest it
I sent some troops over here to to recapture it in order to get a lot of free fire on all these units that are
moving up, but it was
It was retaken by our opponents
So this point this is the last of Indian Indies units just a couple
28 Syrian archers left that is the last of the Indies force
So they're gonna be trying to to save themselves. My guys are gonna be pulling out of this fight
I kept my Cretan archers in the back
So they would draw fire from the enemy tower as opposed to my infantry because I know they're more important
And we're gonna be hustling to get out of here
And our opponents still have a bunch of these militia hoplites
Which could be troublesome?
There's a lot of them, but they are weak and they're pretty easy to crack
Look at the way the men are holding themselves, especially those heavy infantry. Yeah, they're exhausted
So you could you could tell easily so this is the forefront of this assault
They're pushing forward not quite sure what to deal with they see a bunch of corpses and retreating men
So they're pushing forward the rest of the units are now gonna be moving up into position
But this is a an early vanguard force. They're pretty tired pushing up and what do they see?
They see my guys all the way down there pulling back reforming and that's kind of what I want to give the impression of
We do however have archers on their flank. So now they've slowed and kind of somewhat reformed because we have archers on the flank
So this is gonna start to be the beginning of our killing fields
So I told my archers to hold fire. They're gonna be an overwatch and this is pretty ominous
Let's watch this from this position
All you see is a couple guys staring down at you. So they're gonna be pushing up
And now some of our guys with javelins are gonna be raining down on these troops. So
They're already not sure what's going on with missile fire coming in at them. They're gonna be somewhat confused shields up heads down
They're gonna be trying to get cover and then out of the corner pop some of my guys
Absolutely thrashes these units get some from the flank when they weren't expecting it with the supporting fire of our guys
This is gonna be able to have a lightning strike on the opponents
A couple of the enemy have already broken and run in that initial assault
Got some nice
Look at that this entire unit is starting to break and route so perfect just as some units are, you know
Getting into position. It's too late to save their own men
So got some nice easy kills
This proves that the battle is not over. So this force is now pushing up
They see some of their friendly units pulling back. So maybe they'll be a little bit more cautious as they advance
But this is a lot of reinforcements and especially a lot of archers and skirmishers this is gonna be
pretty hard to deal with
So already some of the Cretans firing up on the walls
They're gonna be forcing our units back on what I decide to do is leave one of my archer units here
He's actually out of ammo
At this point but in by putting them in this pretty well defended area
I was hoping to draw enemy fire and make them waste their shots on a pretty heavily defended force
So you can see most of these shots
Missing so this is actually take that back with the high angle actually these defenses not doing much for me
But at least it is absorbing fire
This guy especially am I right an arrow in the shoulder and he's still walking. Holy crap
Two of them with arrows sticking out of their bodies. So this is a desperate fight and here comes the sacred band
The enemy's pulling up pulling up. I'm gonna try and pull away with my Greek scorpions. They got 81 kills. I
Actually had them targeting some of the mercenary noble fighters here as they were moving up in this deep cluster
So I did a lot of kills
Did a lot of damage to them. I got them down by 18 or so
As good for me just as these triari trying to move forward. I beat him back with my pikeman
So that's good enough, you know, I'm threatening with my infantry and then we're gonna pull out just enough time
To be able to pull back behind this sharp stone bed and I put this here specifically to slow down troops
However, it is going to be slowing down my retreat. So this is not good. I
Have this flank still secured thorax swordsman in this position tower at my back
Cretan archers here. So I'm trying to hold back these sacred band with 27 men left in them and it was supporting tower fire
I should be able to take this so this is gonna secure my flank
However mercenary noble fighters are gonna be coming into the mix and this does not bode well for me
So I'm gonna pull out of this position immediately. I can't
I can't risk an engagement with these guys. So I'm pulling out of there
On this front our opponents are gonna be starting to pour in with a lot of units. Oh
Come on pikeman. So they're now gonna turn around and face my opponent
But this was just a ruse
He wanted me to stay here and now all the archers are gonna be unleashing their fire on my men
So immediately I dropped pikes and I try and get out of there. Look at the murderous fire from those archers
They would have destroyed more of my guys, but still in the retreat
I'm losing almost as many the Balearic slingers pouring in the fire. And there you go in one
Ginormous volley my entire unit and it's still coming after me has been slaughtered
So that is one way to clear out a plaza. Look at all those kills the rest of them chasing my forces away
So I'm forced to pull back. I have my scorpions. I'm gonna have to turn about and fire into this blob
But look how many archers they have. This is a scary scary force
Six skirmishers and all right there. They're not we seizing this point and this is actually the victory point
So I can't dilly-dally much. I'm gonna have to pour everything I can to this fight. So I have my Greek scorpions gonna be
Recommencing fire. I hope this dense body of troops can I can take him out
Trier you're trying to plant themselves through here. I'm just gonna go around them. I'm gonna have to push
onto this force
This is a dense dense group of men. I do I do have a couple men left. I have some Galatians
I have some thorax swordsman. You can see the first of my units just getting around that triari force making a beeline
for these archers, but
One unit at a time is gonna sacrifice itself to hit me
Trier you're gonna come in through the back
This is not good for me. I did draw in some of these Balearic slingers
Just troublesome on this flank. However as my pikemen try and pull in these Balearics are not gonna have it
They're gonna unleash on my guys and even these Romans here perhaps with some pillow. Yeah. Yep. There you go a couple pillow left
They're gonna take out my guys. So this flank has been secured more Romans storming into the center
This is not looking good for us
I do have my Galatian roll guard who actually have managed to get 142 kills at this point with only one loss
So these guys and they're well rested so they're gonna break up a lot more kills after that
They caught these triari in the back
So I'm gonna crush that unit facing this unit from the front gonna pin this evocati with thorax orbs
And that's not gonna last long
But I hope with enough units I can pour in through some of these gaps start hitting his weaker units
And I'm hoping to do some sort of
Mass route, but these Romans are stocky enough, but they are tired
So I'm hoping that I have enough punch to start getting you know some mass chain route going the enemy has
Neutralized this capture point. It is no longer in their control and
Here is the moment. I was waiting for a Galatian roll guard
174 kills to their name only one death are now you know in and amongst his
Light troops, but they pull out and they reveal some hoplites. So this is not good for me
Yes, I can take out hoplites. I mean look at me cutting through them, but there are some enemy reinforcements
They're gonna try and pour into this thorax oarsman. This is enough to to beat me back and the archers have disengaged
cowards that they are
So I've got everything in here
Only a couple units still holding out
These mercy noble fighters committed to this fight thorax oarsman beat back a hundred two hundred thirty kills on these guys
They beat back the sacred band, but they never now they're getting caught by these units
So we'll see how that goes. But the main fight in the center is not going well. I've fought
Battle rhythm and now second win on my Galatians. They have 234 kills
However, they've dropped to 80 men left. My units are starting to crumble in the center general is still alive
But surrounded by the Roman crack troops
Doesn't seem to be going in my favor and the archers are now going to start firing
Indiscriminately into this mass of men and we know how this goes the story of my pikemen earlier just shows
You know how quickly troops can melt away. So let's watch a couple more volleys and
This is gonna start to do heavy amounts of damage. Yeah, there you go. Crack my force
Romans gonna be cheering a couple of my guys still left trying to tell the Romans you can't cheer just yet
But with the victory point
Contested as it was like this some my guys just barely alive
Yeah, this was uh, this was a goner at the end. So I think we got a bit too caught up
Holding out at the Citadel, but still that was an epic hold
Let's go ahead and take a look at some of the action
This was this is such a cool map that I recommend you check out
I'm glad our opponents attacked us here. They didn't have to but it was really epic
The hold at the walls. I mean a lot more of the enemy dead than us remind
You know, you have to be reminded. This was a
2v3 so indie pride and I look and I like to do a lot of these battles
Yes, we usually lose them but it makes her way more epic fights the underdog in a siege is way more fun to play
But yeah had a couple archers up here
I think the enemy just did a good job of massing archers and just obliterating us and just putting a lot of pressure in the right
areas
The holdout in the courtyard was glorious yet doomed
Yeah, you just see the carnage of this city was super cool
I think the loss of the elephants was devastating
They didn't end up getting many kills same thing with the chariots. Had we saved them for
this mess
Just imagine a chariot coming out of that flank and charging through this entire force at that point
I think we may have been able to have enough combined shock to route this force
So yeah, not as best played as we could have done but still like I said 3v2
What do you expect? Very very fun. Nonetheless, let's go ahead and end the replay
Take a look at some of those stats here
So, you know myself getting 1300 kills India thousand kills our opponents getting way way less
Carthage here with 570 but Rome doing pretty well
Rome did however spam evocati, so it's a little hard not to do well with that
Carthage getting a lot of kills with the noble fighters the rest not so much our opponents had a lot of fodder units, especially Athens
With these militia hoplites, but the archers I think getting most of the kills for Athens and they you know
They had overwhelming numbers against us. They just had to grind it out
On our side. My units did pretty well Greek scorpions getting a lot of kills a Galatian Royal Guard 262
Fair amount of kills here Thorax swordsmen doing pretty well pikemen almost a waste
They were shredded by archers skirmishers doing all right
Indy pride here actually Indian army elephants with 237 kills pretty good chariots. However underperforming
He just didn't have many troops
That was one of the problems
I think if you'd brought a couple more troops and not gone for the scythe chariot elephant mix
Maybe just the elephant general and switch out the chariot for a couple more thorax swordsman
We could have had critical mass to hold in more key areas
But still he got a lot of kills
Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed I will see in the next one. Peace out
