Waters/Bright vs Todd/Rohrabacher at the SXY Newport Beach Open
24 Video Views·Apr 11, 2026
All right, and a gold medal, we shall see.
0-0-2.
Let's play pickleball.
A.B. is jacked up.
Jacked up for this one.
Josh will do that, man.
You hear him.
So already issues in the middle.
And that's a tough one.
With Rachel running all the way up to front left,
Paris feels like she needs to come over,
but Rachel was back where she needed to be at the same time.
Second serve.
0-1-2.
Wow.
I don't think Annalise is sure that that serve
or the return was in either.
1-1-2.
Back to best of five.
Side out.
Paris with the power.
I mean, when she hits it well, it is really nice.
1-1-1.
1-1-2.
Really smart there.
You know, if Paris is going to hang out in the midcourt,
that's a sitting duck situation.
Rachel is deeper in the court than her,
but you don't have to just force it to the player back every time.
Take your crack at that player in the midcourt.
1-1-1.
Wow, just different spots, still full power.
Solo.
You need help a lot, but you don't always have to have it.
2-1-1.
Second serve.
Just chuckles over at the bench like, whoopsie, missed that one badly.
Three squares up, Adam.
2-1-2.
Happens.
Side out.
Same situation there on the other side of the net,
sitting duck in the midcourt.
Of course, Annalie very capable from there, but take your chance.
1-2-1.
What a shot from Rachel Rohrabacher.
Two different dink locations to Annalie,
and then whips it from the middle of the court cross body.
Amazing.
2-2-2.
All four players.
That's about to say we're searching for a flow in this match
after some short points early on, and then they throw that at us.
Because Parris rocks it right at the lady in front of her,
and it came back.
2-2-2.
Oh, baby.
Oh, and a yep to go with it. I like that.
A little off pace, too, from Parris.
Taught right up the line.
No Anna Bright paddle to be found.
Second serve.
Rachel Rohrabacher telling herself to move.
2-2-2.
Throws it through the middle.
Oh, yeah.
Pace of play is ticking up.
That's what we're all here for.
3-2-2.
Side out.
It can't be dead.
I understand that Rohrabacher was stretched out wide,
but if it's going to be dead,
it needs to go straight ahead to Anna Bright.
It can't go back over to Anna Lee
to allow her to have free reign off the bounce.
Because then you are at her mercy.
2-3-1.
Love the read.
Good set up lob.
Absolute ball that Rohrabacher needs to hunt.
Got Anna Bright to stab at that one through the middle
and pop it up.
3-3-2.
Anna Lee stack left.
Oh, boy.
Parris has got to get out of there.
Yeah, absolutely right.
Because the ball is floating.
So if it's hit with more pace,
and that's Parris' ball,
but if it's going to float up,
you have to trust Rachel.
Point.
Nice switch over from Anna Bright there.
Timeout receivers.
5-3-2.
She was out.
6-3-2.
Aggressive dink to the backhand.
Sets it up.
So after the clank, 3.
3-6-1.
That's nice.
Really great offense from Rohrabacher.
And the put away on the previous point of Parris
is a huge deal when you're playing Georgia and Tyra
or Anna Lee Waters and Anna Bright.
You seize control of the point.
You must finish it.
Tag Anna Lee.
Wide open.
I'm not going to say it anymore
because it's an obvious skill set.
Something is going on with the deception
of Rachel Rohrabacher.
Nobody is reading it right now.
6-4.
A little sweat on the glasses there.
Good way to slow a play down.
6-4-1.
She's a veteran. She knows.
Second serve.
Sometimes just play it right at the belly button.
6-4-2.
Nice bail out from A.B.
You pull that off here.
Off balance.
Running to the right.
7-4-2.
8-4-2.
9-4-2.
Full pirouette after that miss.
A.B. looking for this sneaky
off pace with that forehand right
in front of your body.
4-9-1.
Watch those deflections, patrons.
And can't find
the court after another
clinic on why we love this
sport so much.
Lobs, defense,
angles, everything.
9-4-1.
9-4-2.
Wind picking up, you can hear it
in Mary's mic.
Point.
Could have been a factor on it right there.
Annalie goes with the drip,
the hybrid drop drive.
10-2.
It was relatively high, but I think the ball
got caught up in the breeze for Paris.
Yes.
Yes, please.
Score goes in.
We gotta rotate.
Jarvis, you've been here all week
at the PPA Tour. What have you seen so far?
Incredible
hand battles. Extraordinary
crowd and the venue like no
other. And what got you into Pickleball?
I mean, you've seriously been here all week for
like 10 hours a day. You seem to be obsessed.
Yeah, just the competition. Obviously
you know my story already.
Just the competition continues
to excite me. And now we're in Championship Sunday
so I'm looking forward to see how that
plays out as well. And one of the coolest things
I've learned about you is that you're a shooter now.
You are hanging out with our media team.
You're bringing your camera here. Who's been your favorite
person to shoot this week? Man, I would say
probably Federico.
The Waters, Anna Leigh Bright.
Those two girls are
extremely talented and
it's no coincidence that they're playing here
today on Championship Sunday. So yeah.
And you played with Anna Bright at the Desert Smash
last week. How do you think she's playing out here, especially
after that game point? She's a beast.
I told her then and I'll probably tell her today
after the match. I love her energy,
her passion, her competitive spirit
is one thing that this sport needs
and she has it all in
her, man. So it's awesome. Well, thank you
for being here, Jarvis. And Dave, by the way, we love
the Cleveland Browns. Thank you. Back to you.
That's right.
Let's just keep
talking. Remind me of your last Super Bowl win,
guys.
What a great dude. Got to play some
with him last night.
And I hear this from so
many of the other sports stars
that you and I have the privilege to get
to know. They want that
competitive juice again
after the career and what they were already
awesome in. And so many have found
pickle. As I was
walking off the court to leave yesterday,
I told him to give you a body bag.
Was he successful? No.
That's a Brown trying to hit
through a steel curtain. Come on.
I actually don't think
I would change much if I'm
Rachel Rohrabacher and Paris Todd.
Nothing significant.
I thought that was some
quality points, especially in the
middle and towards the end.
Don't get yourself stuck
in the jet stream. That is
a quality tip.
Necessary.
It's swirling out of nowhere again.
Side out.
And A.B.'s got the Flamingo working.
We've even seen her do just a
little slight Ernie to
get that maximum extension out
throughout the week.
Really doing damage with the forehand out of the air.
Second serve.
Another good look.
Zero, zero, two.
Point. And a fast
little C
jog there to grab the ball
and get in serve position from A.L. Dubb.
And a complimentary
pickle ball. Rolls
it out wide, sets up
Anna Bright and then gets the put
away herself.
Two, zero, two.
Speed poke
through the middle. It's getting better
and better. And the pace control on that
shot from Anna Bright, she
can hit it from a lot of
heights. It doesn't have to
be waist level. She can create
from lower than that.
That's a good overhead and then followed up with
Paris getting it down. They need to get on the board
here though. It was very tight early and
then it's been one way traffic since then.
Best for runners and pickle ball across the
net from them also.
Oh my.
Takes back the full
two-y look and then drops it. The loop
into the dropper.
Seamless.
Zero, three, two.
Evil intentions were thought of
from Paris. She was going to rip from the
midcourt. Changes the mind.
Roll error.
Zero.
Second serve.
Three, zero, two.
Point.
Watch indeed Paris because chicken
wings were found with full buffalo sauce
on there.
Four, zero, two.
That's exactly
right. Even the fourth from Paris
had a little more on it to not allow
Anna Bright and Anna Lee Waters
to get forward on third terms.
Rachel Rohrabacher
through the middle is one of the most
glorious shots in all of pickle ball.
It's incredible.
One, five, one.
Second serve. Doubles down up
the line with backhand drives.
One, five, two.
I mean
one of the downsides of rolling with
aggression right there, especially if you're
out of position. Carries too far.
Allows Anna Bright to take it out of the
air.
Oh baby. And hooks it
back where she came from.
Clean winner. Yeah, as soon as Anna Lee
makes her move, you know she, and just in her mind,
oh I'm going for the angle, oh I'm going for
the angle. She usually finds it.
So Anna Lee
actually tried to take court
when you were in trouble there.
The audacity.
Six, one, two.
It's there again.
A little different out of the air
than out of the bounce, but there's never a center
fielder when she's batting.
One, six, one.
Seven balls rocked as hard as they can
and it was all nullified.
Love everything they did in that
point. And Anna Bright
had the last laugh. One, six, two.
Side out.
Six, one, one.
Nice pullback from
Paris Todd.
Six, one, two. I don't know.
I mean, she was
spread out wide to her left
on a backhand before
that, but it feels like she has
the closing ability to do more
with that forehand through the middle.
It's a great first volley
from Paris, so
they add one to the lead.
I mean, if you just have a little
hiccup with your thought or your
movement, you pay the price against this team.
Second serve.
Fade away with the forehand
whip there inside in.
Quality shot from Anna
Bright. Somehow
finds a clean winner off that.
And that was a bit of
the, man, I'm not quite sure what
to do from Paris Todd and
just threw up a lob a couple
feet off of the kitchen line. But yeah, you're
right with the backhand
there. Normally
that is not going to be a clean winner. You might win
the point, but to get it all the way
through is surprising.
Seven, one, one.
Anna Bright took a full
swing at the third that
never got near her paddle.
Seven, one, two. I just love the
kamikaze mindset of Anna Lee.
Yes.
Missed it. Side out.
Yeah, and that's what happens
when they get a lead like this. It's more
kamikaze. We talked about it with Tina Piznik
yesterday. It's like you have to get
a couple points early because
if it gets to five, one or four,
one, they can actually find
another gear.
Rachel sprints right out
of the way. The field goal is good.
Another paddle clank in the middle that
put them behind.
One, seven, two.
Fans cheer for who's behind
because they want more pickles. Yes, especially
the level these ladies are capable
of and have shown us.
Shuts down
the middle. Here's your center
fielder. There's just something
slightly different
on the backhand roll and the backhand
speed up from Parris, and Anna Bright
was able to detect that
and be ready in the middle.
Second serve.
Nice handle from Parris that time.
Rachel starts it. Parris
gets a hold of a forehand.
Seven, two, two.
Smart play there. The hold. That was a
major hold. That ball was
plain. It sat up, and Parris
made Anna Lee Waters think,
I'm going to fire through the middle again.
And then picks the cross-court location.
Timeout receivers.
Three, seven, one.
Come on.
In session.
That is sensational,
ladies.
Four, seven, one.
Rachel just
looks up like, really?
Where is
this wind coming from?
There's something weird in the middle
there with the paddle. Parris was coming
in hot. Couldn't get there.
Rachel is in a very
tough spot after Parris. Can't take
that.
Second serve. Almost as if Rachel
was in the huddle there. Oh,
cover my speed-ups through
the middle. Let me change my location
and go line.
Nice job for being ready by
Parris there. And
shortens up the stroke, opens the paddle
face, and still gets it down.
You have to be really on it when you
open the paddle face like that to not
sail the ball.
Four, seven, one. Four, seven,
two. And just waits and
finds the angle. Take your
pick, which was a better shot, the first volley
from Anna Bride or the put-away angle
from Anna Lee. Either way,
ball back over.
Seven, four, one.
She just tracked down, and a second
later, she's hitting a poach
winner. Dave, yes, there is a
way, because it just happened.
G-O-A-T.
Eight, four, one.
Second serve. Eight, four,
two. Pushed off the
line. Simple, controlled,
no panic, right
back in and doing damage
instantly.
Nine, four, two.
Swing and a miss. Yeah, of the perfect
variety.
Game point. Ten, four,
two. Great hands in the
crowd there, Colleen Ketch.
So they get all the way to ten.
Four, ten, one.
Second serve. They're
getting more delicate, the drop
shots. There were some real
mixed results there for a while.
It seems like the percentage of good
ones is going up and up for Anna Lee.
Nice hook from Paris
on the forehand.
Still life here.
Five, ten, two.
Side out. Game point, two.
Ten, five, one.
And there. Second serve.
Nice jam up from Rachel, right
at the body. Don't let them get their arms
extended. Ten, five, two.
Number three.
And number three is the magic one.
So
they got out in front a little
hesitation on the rampage
and then take it to eleven.
So two
out of two for the top seed.
We'll see if they sweep when we
come back.
Zero, zero, two. Right at this very
facility. Alright, is there a
big push here?
Oh, the Paris looks at it
and a couple of nods of the head.
Dave, but she's the out of the air
part of that partnership.
Let's rewind the tape and not do that.
What a shot from AB.
Point. One, zero,
one. Full extension.
Yeah, just enough.
Gave it the grunt and had
enough power
to make that next volley not
perfect for Rohrabacher.
Second serve.
Talking about attacking the ball. Some of these
thirds from Anna Lee.
Zero, two.
Not waiting for it to come to her at all.
That was pretty good from Paris.
That was very good. It was right at the
midsection and Anna Lee was able to
clear enough to still get
that much power.
Point. Four, zero, two.
Point.
Haken off, foot on the gas
since that point.
A nice handle.
Zero, five, one.
Man,
after a poor drop shot
from Anna Bright there.
Telegraphed.
Zero, five, two.
She made up for it though.
I mean, insane
angles from Paris Todd there.
Oh yeah, absolutely right.
One, five, two.
Oh no, Rachel.
Clean winner holds it.
Has been sending it through the middle.
Goes outside. Wow.
Big time shot.
In the time that they absolutely needed it.
Two, five, two.
The Tootsies.
Anna Lee had to move back and forth
left to right multiple times
in that point before the ATP.
It looks like we're
going to stack Rachel on the left here
for a while.
Second serve.
Ting, ting, ting.
Yes.
Wait, Anna Lee hit a slice.
Yeah, I know it. And I actually saw her
out of the air with a
one-handed topspin
dink a few points ago.
So, I mean, not that I've never seen that
before, but I think that it's definitely
in her head to have more
variety over there on the backhand
side.
Wow, the tings continue.
That's a tight net tape.
Now Rachel's
like, if you're going to
come all the way over completely
in front of Anna Bright to get that, I don't
care. I am sending it right at you.
Two, five,
one. That's really good
from Rohrabacher. Anna Bright thought
she had a little space
to catch her, and
Rohrabacher closed that quickly.
Second serve.
Three, five, two.
Sensational play.
Point.
That's just
not nice. Yeah, it's
standard that after that great point
we have one quick, but not like that.
Six, three, one. Second
serve. The middle
strikes again.
Six, three, two.
Seven, three, two. That's just
went off! Blows it past
Paris! Are you kidding
me?
Obscene shot.
The pace from that position
after all of that.
I mean, Paris even
split steps, and I just cannot
imagine that's going
past her.
Kept sending it at Paris, and she's
swatting it back like eight
flies are on her.
Do whatever you have to do.
Three, eight, one. A little
extra something on that last ball from
Rohrabacher, too.
Dominated with that left
hand to roll over top
of that last backhand that was high.
Three, eight, two.
It's wild how the Paris
through the middle doesn't work, and the Rachel
through the middle does.
And you're welcome to join us in Tui Nation.
We love using that left hand to pull
the balls wide.
Just deep.
Nine, three, one.
Uh-oh.
And we are at championship point.
Ten, three, one.
No one's going to forget
that because of the level
that was coming at them,
Anna Lee Waters and Anna Bright
do it again.
Win their 19th title together.
They all
said the same thing.
Different players.
Same conclusion.
Stable. Repeatable.
Shot after shot.
Easily one of the best paddles.
No, the best paddle
I've ever played with.
The diamond grip
and 6-0's innovation puts it back
on top.
Reviewer voted. All-court paddle
of the year. 6-0 Coral.
Go next level.
Take it away, Ireland.
Anna, Anna Lee mentioned
earlier this week that it's like you guys can
read each other's minds. Did you feel like that was happening
during this match? In patches
I feel like it's happening more and more often.
I'll see her crossing and I already know
she's going to do something crazy, and I usually know what it is, so I'm already
covering for her. I think I have to read
her mind probably more than the inverse.
She's always flying around and doing all this wacky stuff
and I'm just trying to play back up.
Anna Lee, I know you like playing
in hot conditions, but it's a lot hotter
from when you played
your mixed match this morning. What was it like being
out there? Yeah, I honestly felt like we were having
a lot of firefights that were lasting a long
time. I feel like this is some of the hottest weather
we've played in in a while, and I feel like we were having some really
fun points because of it. Anna
and I were running all over the court. I feel like Anna
was doing it too. She's saying I'm doing it.
I feel like Anna was doing it. The last point
was super fun. Just tons of defense
to offense. It went both ways, so
I think it was a really fun match and
happy to be a part of it. Anna, you
coined the term million-dollar baby
last week in the draft. Yeah, give it up
for that, everybody.
Did that add a little bit
of pep in your step today?
Oh, not really. I wasn't really thinking
about it too much except in the intro, and then
we have a sign over here, million-dollar baby,
million-dollar A, B. Saying that's going to
fire you up. Also, A, B, did you get my app?
I'd say that one fires me up a little bit more.
Well, let's get the trophy in your hands. We bring in
Mark Von Beegley, CEO and founder
of SXY. Mark.
Congratulations to both of you.
I'm going to hand it to you. It's heavy.
Congratulations again.
Thank you. Almost Anna squared.
Almost.
You guys are amazing. I'm going to keep it short, but
remind everybody, go to
SXY.com to enter for the
thousand-dollar PPA
giveaway shopping spree.
And if you didn't know, we are
the official apparel and headwear brand
for Major League Pickleball.
So, give
these two a huge hand.
Thank you so much, Mark.
Anna Bright and Anna Lee Waters
take home the gold again. Don't go anywhere.
We've got men's doubles next.
