About my garden I live on the edge of USDA zone 6b/7a We have hot and humid summers and cold winters with occassional snow and ice storms. Everything that appears tropical and is in a container goes indoors or to a greenhouse for the winter. The plants in the ground stay in the ground all year. The massive palms are faux planted in their containers to keep from blowing over, they all go to a greenhouse during the winter.

Hey what's up gardener friends. Oh it's windy. Doing my best to cover up the mic.
I am stopping by the hardware store. I'm at the Home Depot. I was at another location and they
had hanging baskets. Two for $12.98 or it was came out to six dollars a basket and I realized that
that is going to save me literally hundreds of dollars on my petunia planting this year
but I needed a few more. So I've just figured since I'm here let's take a couple minutes and
look around. You can see things like this adorable little rhododendron. Cute. It's a nice shrubbery.
When I was walking up here I saw some little crab apples that looked really cute. Like really they're
just tiny little itty bitty things. Golden curls willows. Not a bad price. I got mine that's on sale
for 25 bucks. Yeah look at look at look at how cute these are. Prairie fire crab apples.
They get huge or not huge but I mean crab apples are on the larger side
and there's a little. Okay that's all. Satisfied my urge to see the little crab apples.
Not a ton out of the nurseries just yet. It is April 2nd so it's gonna be a minute before this
video comes out. I bet they'll have all kinds of new things by then. I want to tell y'all I am so
excited about these freaking petunias. They're wave petunias and you know so not like the super
petunia vista bubblegums which are what I usually plant but those have gotten to what be like seven
to eight dollars a piece. I get an entire hanging basket of wave petunias for six dollars. Just makes
more sense. Wow these are big hookeras. Look at those. Nice. Oh I love them. They're so pretty.
I'm not seeing a single flowering hanging basket here so I'm guessing those all sold
over the weekend. These are nice. I grabbed one of these at the other store. Wow dang.
That's so fun to come and see the plants. Look at the size of these ascot rainbows.
Typically when I see those for sale they're tiny. Like six inch pot tiny. Could they be inside?
I doubt it. Wow those are huge. Really big. Nice big calatheas.
Look at the color on those. That was pretty. I like that one. Nope. No luck. We have these guys.
These are on sale. Very pretty. They're just not a point. You know in a few weeks it's gonna be
warm for the pansies. This is maybe the noisiest home depot I've ever been to. I'm sorry about all
the background noise. But yeah just looking at plants anyways. It's not much to say other than
everything looks good. I love the hydrangeas but not to say big leaf on them. Oh these are
two for 16. That's a good price. Yeah I need more of the hydrangeas. I want to know what it is
because some of them are good re-bloomers and a lot of them the ones that aren't labeled usually
are not very good re-bloomers. Well hey I think we've seen it all. I didn't look by the front
door though. Might be something over there. I don't think so. Let's cut back to the house and
look at some plants. Oh my gosh everything out here smells amazing. We'll talk about that in a
minute. Look at all the petunias. Look at them all surrounded by flowers. Got a couple of them
over here. They are everywhere. The math isn't mathing though. It was two for 12.98
but I got 10 of them and it ended up being 60. I don't know. I'm not going to question a good
thing. It was a good deal but typically every single year. I'm just going to explain real
quick why I got all these petunias. There was no segway so I thought I'd just back up and anyways
every year I plant up four big blue pots that go on each side of the steps here of the pool
and usually I have been using like the Supertunia Vista bubble gums and a lot of the Supertunias
just because I really like them. I used to use the Surfinias. Those were my favorites but
the Surfinia it was specifically the Rose Veined. An amazing petunia. Can't find it. I don't know
if Proven Winners bought it and now it has a different name or they're doing something. I
don't know what the deal is. It just it's vanished. I don't ever see it and I can find it sometimes
online but the prices are just not not acceptable for what I would be doing with them. I would need
so many. So I figured instead of doing the Supertunia Vistas like I do every year at generally
about $6.99 a pop. Usually about how much they cost when I usually need to get two of them per
container. Sometime well actually I think I did four last year. Except I didn't do them on this
side. I did Vinco over here and Petunias down well I have to hold on let me do math real quick.
The Petunias like in general when I'm buying all the Supertunias the Vistas
it ends up I spend a few hundred dollars on freaking Petunias every single year and this
year I was like that's something that would be very easy to cut back on and that listen those
are great Petunias. You know seven dollars for one of those and you end up with a massive huge
plant at least with the Bubblegum and the white one I planted it I think twice and that one got
really huge like just monstrous too. Maybe the Silverberry too. But still like I mean we're
talking $30 a pot almost when you're filling big containers with the Supertunia Vistas
or I can get a giant thing of Wave Petunias for six dollars. It's a dollar less and there's five
plants inside of each one of those. I'll be able to divide those out and use them in these
containers. It's not going to be as big of a crazy huge just like boom look at how beautiful all
Petunias are but Wave Petunias people sleep on them. They're really good. The Supertunia Vistas
and everything are just Supertunias but the Vistas specifically they're great Petunias but
it's just for the price difference I'm like yeah I think I'm good with the Waves this year
and the purple this guy right here it smells divine absolutely divine and that is my favorite
shade of purple it's like that light creamy color purple in the evening it looks blue like it looks
like a true blue in the evening I don't understand why on camera it looks very purple well it does
look really purple right now it's all about the lighting but the fragrance with the purple
Petunias it's still there and you don't get that with all these massive hybrid or like massively
hybridized Petunias the Wave Petunias Supertunias none of the ones the especially the pink ones
there's like very little to any fragrance on them at all but with the blue ones purple sorry not blue
purple ones oh they still smell so good especially in the evening and in the morning very sweet smell
I sat out here last night it's the next day from when I was at the store I sat out here last night
I was just surrounded by the fragrance because we got the Petunias and then the Dianthus are over
there if I had some Lobularia out here and some Stock oh my gosh it'd probably be too much probably
nauseating but anyways that's the deal with all the Petunias there's one two three four five six
seven and then there's a whole bunch on the ground over there don't get me wrong I am in no way saying
I'm not gonna be using like the Supertunias or the Vistas or any of the Proven Winners annuals
not the case I'll still be buying some of those this year I just won't be needing anywhere near
as many of them because I got all this 10 12 inch hanging baskets for what would be eight four inch
plants from Proven Winners I mean yes those do get really big really fast but these are already
so big and established you know these are gonna look good a lot faster in the long run won't be
as impressive but sometimes those Vista Bubble Gums can be too much that's if you know what I'm
talking about the Vista Bubble Gum from Proven Winners it's a wonderful Petunia that just it's
it's a thug of a Petunia that thing grows and drapes and grows it just gets massive and for
some of my containers that's just too much it's it's not necessary and in the last few years I've
had some issues with my Supertunia with Vista Vista Bubble Gums like kind of reverting to like
some weird whitish colors and getting long and leggy and I'm using Petunia fertilizers and I'm
turning them mid-summer which I didn't used to do because I never had to do that with my
Surfinias or my Waves but you know with ones that get that big it's not a good or not a bad idea
it's a good idea to go in and cut them back so they can you know get more bushy and flush out
again uh they've just been looking weird and stringy the last few years that could be me
I don't know I know they're coming out with the Vista Bubble Gum 2 which I think comes out next
year which I assume means it's an improvement on the Vista Bubble Gum not that you'd think
there's much to improve on unless the things I've been experiencing are kind of becoming more
normal I don't know that's enough Petunia talk that's a lot of Petunia talk so for this week
I don't have anything specifically planned out because we're still at that awkward time of year
where I live we need to wait to move the plants out usually I wait until late April into May
our average last frost here is like April 5th to April 15th so you know I mean although typically
like the last several years we don't have a water frost after like March 20th but
now just to be safe look at the greenhouse over there and how much it's bugging me and I just
everything over there is an eyesore but there's not much I can do about well there's a big plastic
greenhouse over there I got a new umbrella stand I think that's gonna be nice this is my current
method of holding up the umbrella it's just six bags of sand and it's working wonderfully this
umbrella has gone absolutely nowhere it can't there's too much weight there so let's handle
that because this is well it's getting ridiculous I just got this off Amazon can't really tell you
much about it other than it said that holds or it's like 126 pounds I think was the number of
maybe that's how much sand or water you can put into it and it has wheels and I don't know I
thought it looked cool not much else to it it has some wheels too that's what just fell out of there
and I left the instructions inside but I don't really think we're gonna need them famous last
words right oh yeah no I'm gonna have to look those over because in the instructions it just shows
it just shows wheels like this and that's just like put in a screw that's all the wheels go
right here that makes more sense I was thinking that they would go in there because that's where
they packed them up no those are just divots that are put in there for some inexplicable reason
right yes that's four no five wheels a bag of hardware and a plate and then a pole
there's the pole it's flowing off of my memory which is not the smart way to do this that's how
we're gonna do it it showed step one they did this they put the pole in there like that does
this come out because that's that's a very small hole in the top of this I assume I can pull that
out right because that's okay all right that's better drives me crazy when you get an umbrella
pole one of these holders that doesn't fit most standard umbrellas okay they showed in the picture
that you put in here and you twist what would that twist into that doesn't twist into anything
that just sits loosely in there
huh okay I ran inside and grabbed the instructions just so I could hear y'all screaming at me in the
comments so it just says install the pole into the base I find that interesting that's the first
step I feel like you could do that at any time right yeah that doesn't oh well no because the
next step is to rotate the wheel g into the center of the base so that's g and that's the center of
well what about part f it doesn't say anything about part f but I see part f right there well
we're gonna make this work it's it's doable and this wheel right here is the only one that's not
like the others or the neighbors no one having a great time I don't blame them it's a beautiful day
so I assume that this has an indentation I'm gonna put that right there and just
tighten that up yes oh yeah all right I'm taking something that is incredibly easy and somehow
going to turn into a 20 minute video I'm so sorry yeah so the only thing I don't understand is these
two holes it's got two holes that go to nothing from what I can tell and spinning it around I
don't see a spot anywhere that those go to but it does hold the pole in so there we go mystery
solved and now I'm pretty sure I just put the wheels on it and add water and we're done so I'll
go ahead and do that and see if this amazing umbrella holder okay I think we're good this
might be oh I need to clear my throat here we go that time of year allergies you know this might
be one of the few times where I was able to do a project like this and everything was threaded
properly almost every single time I end up with a bolt somewhere that just it's not threaded right
and it doesn't work out and you have to re-tap something oh okay nice it's a small victory stay
there and over here this is what this is what I've been working with it was temporary I needed
the sand anyways I usually pile the sand up against a couple of blue containers that are
on each side of this hot tub area because in the spring when we're having all the
tornadoes and everything I shouldn't have thrown that bag of soil it just exploded everywhere
I use the sand to keep the pots from blowing over that's piled up in front of the containers
and it keeps them in place which is awesome these are newer bags so they're fine to be tossed around
a little bit although a couple of these are old yeah that's fine I think that'll be okay and now
I have to decide do I want to fill the base up with water or sand sand's not gonna leak right
I really do feel like sand is the way to go but also just a monumental pain in the butt and not
how I want to do this but I do think it would work better look at the size difference between
these two bases you can see why I need to do this upgrade right this one just wasn't doing anything
so this umbrella stand over here it was like I don't know I got like 20 bucks off of Amazon last
year I just last minute last year said I wanted a small cheap umbrella over here so I got a small
cheap umbrella it's a half umbrella and it was great for a while but I decided that the half
umbrella thing was kind of stupid makes sense if you know you have it up against the house something
like that but for this space just didn't make sense and this umbrella stand has never really
been cutting it it really just doesn't do what it needs to do it doesn't hold on to water the water
just goes right out of it this is a wider base hopefully this is all in the frame and you can
see what's going on yeah look at that okay so I need to put water in it probably should have done
that first but well that is a little bit weird though because the other one even though that
doesn't have water in it still wouldn't tipping over this one wants to go places
huh put some water in here I'm trying to logic this out the math on this so it says
I believe it's been you know a week or so since I saw the listing I'm pretty sure it's
said that this is 126 pounds of weight which would mean that this would be
was that 15 gallons of water in here I could maybe see that
I'd be really surprised if this is holding 15 gallons of water
you know I've spent many years logging five gallon jugs of water to my fish tanks before I
had my own RO systems I'd go and buy water sometimes to clean the saltwater tanks and uh
I find it hard believe I could pour three of those into this those are big containers but you know
makes sense 15 times eight yeah okay so that would yeah that'd be just about right about 15 gallons
oh but it's definitely gonna be some weight it should be plenty of weight to keep this thing
from moving oh I should have timed it I should have timed it I could have timed how long it took
to fill this thing up and then uh filled up a bucket and seeing that it doesn't really matter
it just it's I'm being a nerd and I want to figure it out um yeah that's almost full there's no way
that's 15 gallons this hose has terrible water pressure and I know it takes me a while to fill
up a three gallon watering can and I've only been standing for maybe maybe three minutes at the
absolute most and it's just about ready to overflow at least I thought it was when I started
talking just now but it's still going so maybe it's an illusion and the water's just bubbling up
no that's got to be just about full yeah yeah there's no way that's 15 gallons they never said
it was 15 gallons that's a me thing I was just trying to break down the number that I think they
had listed for it I don't even remember if that was the right number pretty sure it had said 126
pounds I do think sand is better so that's something if you're doing one of these use the
sand oh those wheels are nice though this moves around really smoothly did I just kick everything
out of frame no you can see it you saw it move and the wheels do lock so that's really good all
that's left to do is I have these guys right here it puts these down here on the lower portion of
the pole excuse me turbo put these in right here and that's done yeah there we go beautiful how
easy does it move yeah I only locked one of the wheels that's the only thing is the wheels are not
that easy to get to if you want to lock them you gotta well you gotta find them first and you have
to figure out where the lock is on the wheel it's a pretty good example since they don't stick out
they're hidden you know having them hidden means you gotta work extra hard to get to the piece so
you can lock it but imagine if half of them are locked that one doesn't want to lock you have
another hand put some weight on it there we go all right well two of them are locked all right
yeah that's not moving so you keep at least two of them probably better lock all of them right
all right okay glad to have that done that box has been sitting over here on the patio for a while
a few days anyways had to wait for the weather to get nicer yeah I don't know I feel like I
take a pretty intense wind but that's what umbrellas do right it's just a sail oh I'll
be able to let you know we're supposed to have all kinds of storms over the next few days so
we'll see how it does I don't really want to leave the umbrella during the storm so yeah it's just
such a pretty umbrella and it's brand new storms and spring always just destroys these things I'll
probably still put it down but I would like to know how that basically work although this base
is already working better than the other one because it's standing up without 240 pounds of
sand piled around it and it looks nice I think that's a nice looking base right I think it's
good okay enough about umbrella stands and petunias oh I picked up a hydrangea too I forgot
to talk about that it's one of the I just want to say halo it's not a halo it's one of the fairy
trail bride hydrangeas which I think I talked about this when we're at the store I at least
pointed to them these are new-ish they've been out for a minute but seeing really big ones like this
at the store is not all that common at least not for the price it's like 30 34 for one that's nice
and big and this is a trailing hydrangea which I don't have a ton of hope for it's hardy to zone six
yeah I mean we'll just we'll see what it does you can see a better picture of it right there
I just think this would be a fun one to try out in the containers but it is not as hardy as like
the paniculatus which are really the way to go for container hydrangeas at least where I live
yeah we'll see I just really like the texture it's a very airy open flower bud or flower head I
should say and I believe this comes in a pink and a blue also right this just it doesn't say
it just says fairy trail bride which I assume would be white I think the other ones are fairy
trail blue maybe fairy trail pink I think maybe it's not like a tight tight trail it's not gonna
lay flat and crawl but it does it has a somewhat of a weeping habit so if you put it maybe you
have a wall like I have some walls over there complaints at the top of that maybe it'll come
over the edge which is what I was thinking about maybe doing with this if I don't keep it in a
container or to put in a container that has some more height to it so you can kind of see it
do a very gentle cascade not extreme so that's what I've been wondering about with this hydrangea
is is this going to be really really pretty is it going to have a nice flow to it or is it just
going to kind of look like the thing in shape right I'm thinking it might just look like it's
not shaped right but time will tell right okay now wait for storms supposed to storm for like
the next three days got Easter coming up big meals to cook oh the pool's opened that happened
got the filtration up and running turbo's been having a great time I'm gonna get back out here
get some things done have some pots to go together maybe get a couple plants in the ground
I don't know just not quite there yet almost almost I've been saying that for the last I think
four weeks but so so so close would you like to you want to go there you go yeah go on let's go
go outside that's the glue there's the glue hey what's up garnet no but this video's already
started right I'm pretty sure it has uh Easter happened my nephew is here uh how old is he like
20 months maybe 22 months he really just he discovered he loves hanging baskets that's as
much as you will ever see of him don't like to show the kids on the channel I was thinking it's
a beautiful day extended forecast isn't showing any frost for the rest of the month which you know
you can't really trust those forecasts but when we're desperate we're going to take the information
and run with it right I'd like to get out to the greenhouse to we thought we go there every year
not so much to buy a lot of plants and you know I'm sure we'll come home with something
but because they're a grower retailer seller like they just they do it all it's a production
retailer and I think they wholesale too anyways uh they just have an amazing selection they tend
to have the varieties out before we're seeing them everywhere else I just kind of want to get
an idea of some of the things we'll be seeing this year at the nurseries and some prices and
you know just to plan things out because I know you know I'm going to need impatience flats and
flats and flats of impatience and I don't know I've say this every year but I really would kind
of like to dial it back on the annuals they just cost so much money which is you know when I can
find these baskets and things these deals amazing great wonderful all of these flowers you're seeing
out here less than 200 bucks but still I mean when I say that a lot of like 200 dollars that's still
a lot of money it is a very small fraction of what it usually costs to get this many flowers
out here but so I mean I don't usually do this this is a lot not at least in a space like this
this is temporary though I'm just trying to find a pretty way to store everything until it's time
to start planting things up waiting for the ground to warm up so it's a premature visit
where I'm sure I will pick up some plants ground temperature is cold now this is also at the front
of a sandy berm temperature fluctuates there pretty quickly not a lot of insulation right
there but I better put it to come back here go back more like right there try and push that
down as far as I can I'm thinking that that's probably going to go up to like 70 to 75 it's
been rather cool though the last few days so I don't know but just like three days ago that was
reading closer to 70 degrees in the ground which is perfect well it's perfect if it were going to
stay that temperature I don't know if it is oh hey look look look you don't see these that often
this time of year and down there I think that's one of the pharaoh's dream right that's a bikini
teeny but I think that's a pharaoh's dream look at how white it is that's what I'm guessing
yeah so that's somewhat irrelevant information some of me planting in the ground right now
anyways I still need to get the mulch spread about just about time to get the you know bananas
unveiled and I've done some of that we'll walk around later and have a look I figured we'd give
it a day or two more let the plants do some more growing and you can see what we've got and what's
popping up and very unseasonably early actually oh my gosh there are a lot of people here that's
just how it always goes I don't know why I say it like it's some kind of surprise this place is very
popular there we go that's the promotion that's where we are I say we I'm not alone and y'all are
look at all the hangy things and the thingy things it's a pretty basket
they had some really good succulents here last year look at the size of these things
they planted a few of these last year the coral reef echeverias they did
wonderfully I had these in was it a seashell planter right topsy turvy beautiful one very
cold hardy try that topsy turvy one if you're in like 7b zone 8a I think you'll like it they
can take some cold just mound it up from the soil keep it dry pretty nice variegation
the temptation is setting in oh I forgot there's fans we're in a greenhouse it's gonna get loud
it kicked on right after I said that Pearl von Nuremberg that's a good one I can't spend too
much time on succulents there's so much to look at in here I'm always so tempted with these
I've always loved them when I've grown them but they are such a pain in the butt to keep water
white queen pretty lots of great caladiums they always have the best selection of caladiums I've
never seen anybody around here with quite as many as they have berries and burgundy
it's nice pink gem it's a nice strap leaf the prices are so good you can get these smaller
baskets 15 bucks that's great let's see we got this up here look at that that's 15 dollars that
giant nanook that's a wonderful deal really great especially with a plant like a Tradescanta
because you can divide it up and multiply it's all over the place lots of mixed pots
they're really good looking pots too more caladiums on the 13 inch planters 27 bucks
wow look at that my goodness whoa that's a statement oh so much color that's good oh I
like these are these the radiance just says but oh just saucy that's the name wow I like those a lot
it's got good color really like this what's the size what's the size on the just saucy
I don't know 14 to 16 that's a good size for a caladium
way too early for caladiums way way way too early I'm gonna hold off on those
down here it's nothing but trouble nothing but trouble just petunias and geraniums
it's too much can't get those yet all of the trailing vinca a lot to choose from
some marigolds smell good did you like those vinca
watch cluster boil planted a bunch of those last year and I did like them
they stood up really well they held on to their color weren't very vigorous but they
were nice it's something different that's a lot of coleus plenty of begonias
and impatience there was a big big table full of different colors of portulaca
it's nice good to see some variety there
well did you guys see the size of those tomatoes I know the audio is probably just horrible but
it's just it is what it is we're in a greenhouse there's huge fans everywhere it's worth it you
get to see the plants look at that I'm heading right for the tropicals got the pack of stackies
mandevillas let's just you know what let's go from the back and work our way forward never do that
always work our way from here and down mix things up this year be wild that's nice I like this
mandarin breeze I'm guessing orange sunset all right more tropicals more baskets
all the lantana trees and ferns idea of prices same as last year no markups I love that good
for them different colors the lantanas these were fun I like these the hibiscus columns
I like them a lot the problem is the last few times I bought them they had ones mixed into
the columns they're different colors I don't always like the colors on to the eugenias
wow wow that's a phenomenal price these are huge you see how big these are look at I'm with someone
if you didn't know I'm talking to somebody else but you guys can comment too these are massive
for 45 bucks look at the spirals look at that those are huge for 45 dollars those would be
probably 250 to 350 at some of the nurseries around here yeah that's amazing very very tempting
really tempting I want to get them I don't know what I'd do them I want to get them
and that's if we're not doing that we're not doing that this year we're only getting things
you know we're gonna do with them right yeah I mean we'll see how long that lasts
ah the gardenia trees love them fun these guys are nice too the caliendras and the panama rose
I don't see any caliandra I see the tag for it though huh I guess they sold them already
that was fast this place just opened up like a week ago something that's fun about this nursery
is they're only open for really a few weeks a year they open up right around the start of spring and
close down right around memorial day and then they open up again sometime in october or november
and they sell a lot of poinsettias all right there we go top of aisle number two very rickety fan
behind me okay it's mostly ferns it's mostly ferns and really pretty baskets we'll move on to the next
there we go bananas quesillos superdorf cyan rubies the margaritas
fine how much are the green pots 15. okay all right I'll remember that I might need a few more
of those plumbago I don't like the foliage on those that much the flowers are really neat though
like the little hibiscus trees too that's it for the tropicals but look at this whoa isn't that just
amazing so much color so these are the topiary forms pardon the cart it's probably pretty
obnoxious where you have a basket on top with a pole another one down below that's I know
that's a lot of money but it's really not bad for what you're getting there I like the ones
with the geraniums very very full trying to keep my eyes peeled for these variegated sun patients
I'm not seeing as many of them this year as usual so I might need to go ahead and grab those a little
bit early but I don't know if they'll have them when I come back vines clematis some nice ground
it's really pretty it's a fun wood deal area which one are you little rocket that's got some
really cool leaves on it doesn't it I like that neat shape that's tempting it's very tempting
very tempting you know I don't feel as bad about buying perennials as I do annuals
let's pick out a good one it's got multiple growths I'm gonna go with one that has more
growth on it yeah so it's not quite as big as more growth actually after seeing that
division I'd rather go something that's been rooted down a little bit further oh my gosh look
at these they're so full oh I thought that was one basket that's why I was like hey look at that no
it's not it's it's multiples they're just stacked lamiums it's a variegation on this one
shiny all the colorful the different hookah rows hard sorry about that tight fit gotta squeeze
past people these are all hookah rows and hookah relas probably some tiarellas in here too it's a
whole freaking that's gotta be like a 40 foot bench no that's longer than 40 foot
that's cool actually cool look at the acanthus spinosis morning candle that's a common one
I haven't tried that one my acanthus well we'll talk about when we get back to the house
but there's some crazy things going on with the acanthus they had back at the house
digitalis rose oh there we go there's a tag dotty purple warm rose I love foxglove don't
quite have the sun for it anymore unfortunately but when I did it's a lot of fun to grow
oh bernaras what bernara really nice plants for the shade I don't need to get this right now but
I really want one you can see the flowers on aren't they pretty pretty little blue flowers
alexandria colors so nice not right now I can find bernaras anywhere oh but here they're on
jack frost probably the most common one they see the most often looking glass
there's so many nice ones to choose from excellent plant for lighting up the shade
oh look at the little guys look at look at are they cute they're so cute dicentrous
yeah the other thing buying things in the greenhouse you have to remember to harden
these off you can't just take these right outside right resisting temptation so much
resisting going on today oh these are nice these are big cicada always grown tropical rose which I
believe is this one right here it's a very rich pink not quite as red toned as you're seeing in
the video cicada is a well it's a light pink much lighter than you're seeing in the video
things are a little bit more saturated on camera and I think I prefer the tropical rose
sun patients they just don't show their beauty on camera they're a tricky one
to show and like really give the idea of how beautiful they are oh look at how fun and happy
it is over here oh the portulacaria and the angelonias they smell good sorry nemesia
very good fragrance oh of course it does this is sweet smells right in the front of the pot all
more annuals more annuals
all right hey you know what I think we've about seen it all I might poke around and grab a few
more plants not entirely sure but uh you know at the very least have an idea of some of the things
that are here we'll probably come back later to pick some more stuff up and they have a whole
row of Elvis over here from here all the way down all edibles herbs and food well in baskets
you don't eat the basket that was for my reference that's all things to look back at later really
good price considering how big the plants are and those containers oh we're back to the noisy fans
sorry I know I said we were leaving and we are these tomatoes are really get some nice early
season crops going with these they're going to be absolutely huge by the end of the growing season
you buy them that big and what's it says April 3rd I think no 4th no today's the 5th okay it's
a purple what's that one oh yeah compact rose glows that's a good one like this one it's just
the purple or the red I like the red one better oh the purple that looks huh I don't know I'm
talking to myself and the people through the camera 850 per gallon size all right okay I'm
not ready to plant these up yet but another week or two be loading up on sun patience
oh fire island that's a good one all right let's stop by one more nursery
you know pricing things out more look at all these azaleas don't they look beautiful
oh they have curly fries or they have silly string that's a cool one I'm on a hosta kick
this year y'all you just wait you just wait there's some neat hostas coming in the mail
okay just one miss america earth angel summon substance that's a nice thing I love guacamole
that's a good hosta with some virginia I need to remember to grab some I love the Jacob's letter
yeah maybe we're discussing mass amounts of foods that we cannot find that were supposed
to be in the fridges leftovers from Easter yesterday I think there were some miscommunications
and somebody may have taken all the leftovers home instead of just some of them that's a
really cool looking variegation on this one look at this more hostas liberty
oh it's a column oh that's a really pretty one it's a deep purple coming across right on camera
it's a little red it's a nice purple I love the camp magistice magistice it's purple it's purple
that's what it is it's purple more hookahs little cutie shimmer man it's got a nice shimmer to it
oh yeah pardon my nails there's arts and crafts stuff going on at the house and it will not come
off and I'm fine with it it's fun I like the sparkles it'll come off over time I'm sure what's
going on in the ajugas there's one I've been wanting to try called parrot's beak these are
nice too burgundy glow that's a nice ajuga what's that one it's like princess princess what's that
name you don't know you have no idea do you anastasia it might be anastasia something
I don't know well somewhere Tatiana maybe burgundy glow I don't see it pretty and sturdy
I would think Anastasia I had asked I said name a Russian princess because I think that that was
the name of the the one I was trying to find we can both only think of Anastasia and Tatiana
oh I like these iris oh by the way not digging into it right now but this place loaded that
entire tunnel over there all natives they have tons and tons of natives here like that iris it's
a nice iris holy ---- they're slow to get started so that's that's a price I've never seen them for
sale this size this far north I've only seen them for sale actually at a nursery twice and they were
in containers about this size I think once Sherwood's Forest had them from Monrovia in a
five gallon which is a little bit smaller than this and they were like since we're 90 maybe
that's a jump but they do take a while to get going that's too rich for my blood hey yeah I
just thought you know what I want for my birthday I want those yeah they only have three
kidding kidding this is way too nice to me
much less you do have to watch out though with those yuccas make sure they haven't been poached
all right so they're still loading up it's early it doesn't feel early it feels late
because this has been such an oddly unusually warm spring like I said I'm going to show you
it's coming from the garden that does not ever come up in April it started coming up in March
so you know we're ahead of the game with a lot of these things it's a nice little orange bird
of paradise yeah we'll be back here plenty oh these are really small this year oh look at this
guy look at the little he's got the little he didn't care he just kept going I thought it was
cute whale's tongue agave avidifolia hey these are the ones hey these are the ones that we bought
last year that I put the greenhouse over this is leftover from last year they did some shrinking
oh I love the teeny tiny papyrus plants because they just they're sort of like little I don't
know there's like bugs flittering around but not in a bad way and like a fun whimsical look cute
little bugs sort of way you know what I mean they're adorable it's just a tiny little kimber
it is just tiny little kimberly fern these I was curious about you're gonna snatch these up early
the first shipment is reasonable price and then the price goes up
with the next order every year and they sell out really fast
I like that that's very pretty it reminds me of the pink charm
this it's $6.99 for the three inch or the four inch annuals oh I like those dichondra baskets
oh my gosh the size of these rosemary's good lord if I really loved rosemary I would be on top of
that I don't know what kinds of alocasias portoras any borneo giants this year no there we go borneo
giants I don't need I have to stop mine are huge I don't need more of those they're taking over
castor beans fun nice white bird of paradise washingtonias yeah yeah I think y'all get it
I'm gonna head back to the house now I mean at this time go look at some plants
hey pumpkin you say good morning no you busy she's busy holy pumpkin alone sorry but
oh there she is hi pumpkin Colby's having an excellent morning
munching on some lettuce you hear that crunch can you hear the crunch from here
oh well that was a very very satisfying crunchy sound he's chowing down on that
lettuce I keep wanting to say hey what's up gardener friends but
we are way into this video there's a panda on the cover of the 2026
WWF calendar look at look at oh add strong this morning we're just gonna go outside and look at
some plants it's the next day had to leave the plants in the car overnight because last night
was pretty much the last cold night I see in the forecast at least anytime soon but some cold
temperatures but I did well there's some on the patio already everything from we thought well
that hasn't been hardened off they've been in the greenhouse and a lot of stuff from greenscape I
just brought out most of it's out here oh my gosh it smells heavenly out here okay well I
there's a pole in the middle of the shot and I know that's I'll move it I know this probably
seems ridiculous but the only reason that this is still here is because I didn't want to move
a toy turbo had a dog toy sitting right here where the umbrella is going to go over there
and I was like if I touch that toy if I touch it then it's on retriever I move that toy and
it's gonna be oh it's time to play and that is not what we're doing right now okay right plants
that view is so much better yeah it happened he found the toy that's okay I think he knows
what's going on he's being shell it's not very warm today so he doesn't seem to want to get on
the pole let's start with one that you already know I got the hosta okay I didn't I don't know
what was just happening all that stuff you just saw that's from three days ago I went to edit
the portion of me talking about all the plants and everything and there's this awful clinging noise
and I think it was probably I think it was probably this guy like my my uh necklace was dangling and
hitting things so I have to reshoot all that and really it turned out to be too much like 40 minutes
worth of stuff talking about all the plants because I kind of went in a little bit deep on
some hosta talk and a few other things I was thinking you know what let's just save it for
next week but have a glance I'm not gonna like over tease everybody I picked up this awesome
I think you already know about the beautiful heuchera right here and then we have some nice
herbs hostas and some other things from greenscape nice big banana waiting to be
potted up actually a little banana to take a little baby and then a couple of hanging baskets
and tomato good lord it's warm in there why isn't the alarm going off
there's a sensor that should be setting the alarm off okay the other impatient looks okay
I'll go more into depth on all those things next week I think that that works out better anyways
because you can you know talk about the plants and actually hopefully plant some of them up right
so let me grab my drink let's just go on a little garden stroll because there's been a lot going on
out here a lot of updates since the last garden tour which was only what two weeks ago I've been
seeing more action in this garden in March I know it's April now but these are things that start to
peep out of the ground in March then I've never seen this before it's amazing this is what it's
like to live in the south well first off look at the not heptacodium who are you chitalpa next to
my siding I just okay I need to paint that we'll talk about it over here because the neighbors
power washing and mowing they have a lot going on over there the chitalpa it's just you saw that
it's just a big stick and I know I should prune it but I'm gonna let it do its thing
because it looks weird I want to see what's gonna happen with it look at the crinum lilies
those weren't doing anything just like two weeks ago and this is what has me really surprised you
see these back there see those they're gingers the hediciums those don't normally come up for me until
gosh late April into May but I feel like in this spot they've been better about coming up earlier
but these started popping up like two days after from the garden tour I filmed the garden tour
I think March 26th for the March garden tour yeah so that was impressive have some action
going on over here which I think we already talked about it's a bikini teeny pelicasia
right there and what I believe is probably a pharaoh's dream down there I hope it's the
pharaoh's dream that would mean it's the third year that that one's coming back or no but this
last year was the first this would be the second yeah the second year will be on the third year
am I making sense probably not planted them had a winter they came back and then we had another
winter and they came back so that's where we are right now bamboo popping up saying hello then over
here I have the sycamensis banana this is the I think it's a red tiger the base of that pseudostem
looks pretty stiff one just set this down so I'd walk around have a nice stroll but I'm gonna need
my hand to stay there yeah so the base is nice and firm all the way down there but there's some
I've been pulling away and cutting back at it probably had to dump a little fungicide on top
and have a have a pup coming up right there so that's exciting the spot was experimental for
banana because it doesn't scream banana location it's pretty shady over here but it gets a good
amount of morning light and at least it will for the next few years let maple tree grow some more
yeah I know I've got dead arbs there's dead arbs all over St. Louis it was a weird winter
for the emerald green arbs yeah it's a good spot to make them grow and stretch because they get
good bright morning light and then it's pretty dappled after that into the later afternoon
and that makes for a really nice tall long banana but not really those nice
stout ones you know I'm saying hopefully yeah so I'm glad to see that survived they're not
as hardy as the bajus that says up to that spot time traveler hosta had this guy for a while I
love the variegation not much of it yet but it'll have more soon woo la la hostas got planted up
last year so I'm happy to see it coming up I have one right here and then one over here on the other
side of this path yeah second year growth on hostas is always so nice to see because when you
plant a hosta usually the first year they just sort of sit there they don't do very much the
next year it's when they really start to explode and show you what they're gonna do this is what
got me really happy look at that acanthus acanthus oak leaf so it's a mollusk type acanthus
a few years ago I planted one here one over here one up there and then two on the other side of
the yard and I've just been watching them seeing how they would do last year these didn't come up
for me some of them didn't come up for me until June I think because they were somewhere ready
to throw the tallow in on they showed up around June but this year the one up there coming up
this guy right here get in closer so you can see it that one it's coming up and then the big guy
over there that one's coming up which is pretty exciting I was not expecting to be seeing those
this time of year so maybe they'll actually get enough size on them to flower that'd be awesome
wouldn't it look how pretty the pragance viburnum is looking love those flowers those big poof balls
with big waxy flowers kind of remind me of a hoya yeah so that's what's going on in the garden just
lots of stuff waking up and coming to life love this time of year I have started to move to more
tropicals that but we'll talk about that next week it's more of a response to noticing some
pests in the grow space than anything else let's just get them out here they do better outside
than inside no matter what the circumstances usually okay and now we have a big warm-up
coming this way it's already like 79 it's only 10 a.m so I have to stay on top of the watering
and can get on to some planting here soon because I think we are out of the clear or out of the
we're in we're in the clear as far as frost goes but just to be safe I'm going to keep giving a
few more days I want to see an extended forecast that goes out to the end of the month and maybe
into the beginning of May and I'm watching those ground temperatures see what they do right now
that thermometer over there it's just it's like 65 so it's warmed up some but not much
but I think that that means it's okay to start bringing out some of the house plants that are
inside only problem is there's no shade because the leaves haven't flushed out yet on the trees
so it's not that only places to put things I still have this monstrosity out here too which
that'll probably be there for another week or two I cannot wait to take this down because then I can
get this all put together and quit it started it's driving me crazy it's worth it got a lot of utility
out of it definitely useful heck I think the plants did much better in here than they did
in my garage but still it's such an eyesore and I picked up a few more goodies over here
we'll talk about next week so I said I'm not trying to be a tease it just it takes too long
we already we did so much shopping and then we had that like I don't know several minutes spiel
about the petunia situation beginning of the video so I was like you know let's just get to it next
week not hiding anything you got to have a glimpse at them so yeah hey there it is y'all had fun hope
everybody's doing well having a great day great life and everything's just going absolutely
beautifully for you
