MrBeast reflects on his not-so-overnight success to become the most followed YouTuber in the world, including making videos no one watched for eight years until he went viral for counting to 100,000 in one sitting. MrBeast also dishes on going bigger for Season 2 of "Beast Games," and answers young fans' most burning questions!
Where did the name Mr. Beast come from that's been around for a minute, right? Uh, yes
Well before I answer that nice to meet you. This is our first time ever talking. So in front of a live audience, it's funny
So, um, yeah, Mr. Beast, I mean you can call me Jimmy if you want or Mr. Beast. Okay, if that's what Mr.
Beast if you're nasty, okay, Jimmy. No, I'll call you Jimmy. Yeah, but when I was a little kid
I made an Xbox live account and it the random name was just Mr. Beast 6000 that it just like generated
And so that's just kind of the username I used and then as I got older everyone's like what's the six thousands?
Like I don't know and so I got rid of it. Oh
My god, I love that. You had to hold on to that because that's what you
Like 11
Hundreds of people call me. Mr. Beast. Oh, no. Yeah
Your YouTube channel though. It grew pretty quickly, right?
Well, it didn't grow for eight years. Basically, maybe it was for eight years. No one watched and then yes
Maybe then it just took off like over but from those eight years
Like how quickly was it was the change from eight years to like being just exactly 400 million. That's insane. Yeah, it's pretty wild. Yeah
Every video we upload 1% of people I've watched which is kind of crazy when I think about it
I'm like, sometimes I wake up. I'm like, it's this my life. Yeah, this doesn't really make sense
But you should do what you love though. That's such a lesson. Do you love and you're into and you're passionate about it's a really great
Lesson. Well, yeah, because most people tend to quit before they find a success
So you really have to love what you do enough to slug through it in my case eight years of no money and no one
Watching it to you know, you know hit the diamond in the rough, which what was that turn though?
Yeah, there's no one's watching but then everybody was watching. Yeah
So in my case, I mean maybe not the proudest thing in hindsight, but I counted to a hundred thousand
So I just literally hit record on a camera and I was like I'm gonna count and I'm not gonna stop till I hit a hundred
Thousand it took me 40 hours and I up I just uploaded it. I didn't know this story. Yeah
What I mean, I'm not the proudest of it because it's like not really talent. Although I guess maybe
But yeah, so I just like I'm gonna do it. You're committed. Yeah, and so I uploaded it and everyone's like what is idiot doing?
Why is he counting?
Yeah
and I got everyone talking and so then I watched paint dry or like I painted a wall and waited for it to dry and
Then I would just like anytime there's a meme
I just watch it only for 10 hours and I did that for a little while and I was just like, you know
Mentally tough and I would just do mundane things for long periods
And so it's kind of like watching Game of Thrones and like anime and things like that
I kind of hacked a way to make money while watching TV. So but I didn't tell people that I just think you're clever
Yeah points for that. You deserve the viewers for that. Yeah, I don't think I'd ever do that
Like I think I'd start it like this gonna be so funny and then I'd quit to be fair
Yeah, I couldn't do it again
I don't know. I was a different person back then like it was it's pretty I you know in fairness
I feel a lot of us can say that about things we did in our 20s or as a teenager
I'm like, well, I would never do that again. Exactly. I think I was 19 at the time. Yeah, so now you have these games
This is intense. It's on Amazon. So explain that for everybody. Uh, yeah, so, uh, yeah our YouTube channel
We do a lot of like game show competition show type stuff
like I'll put a hundred people in a circle and be like whoever leaves last wins a million dollars and
People really like those so I was like, okay
What if we take this competition thing that works well on YouTube
We do it on a stream platform and we just make everything the biggest most contestants in history largest cash prize in history largest sets
in history and you know just
Amplified and that's essentially these games in a nutshell. Yeah. Yeah
I mean, do you think when you were young? I think you could have won one of those like cuz you really stuck it out
There uh, yeah, I mean I write the show
But I would know all the twists and turns but yeah
I mean usually what do well in our competition shows is
And these games is big alliances and just making friends a lot of people because a lot of times will offer people money like hey
I'll give you a hundred grand. You just have to eliminate all your friends and like things like that
So if you can get people you trust and can't be bought then you go pretty far
But that's kind of the hardest part is knowing who you can trust and who you can't so what's different in season two?
How do you because you have to kind of change it up? Yeah people interested, right? So it's different. Yeah
well in season one
We grabbed a thousand people and which was the most any shows ever had and I kind of realized why no one's ever had a
Thousand before because it's you know, you barely remember like ten names and then you put a thousand
It's just like vomit on a screen. Yeah, so in season two, we dialed some things back
Which is not in our nature usually go bigger and I was like, let's do ten thousand
But then I was like, ah people kind of want to know their names and everything
so we and season two we got the hundred the strongest people in the planet hundreds some of the smartest people in the planet had
him compete for five million dollars and
Yeah, just built. Well, it's hard to describe without showing
I mean you kind of saw in that clip there like one of the games we'd suspended them 100 feet in the air and
You know people who fell ended up losing and so they hold on because that's like a strong game for the strong versus smart
Yeah, and then other games. It's like memorizing a 20 block pattern things like that. Oh my gosh
Yeah, I just felt like a loser you saying it
Fans are kiddos and Jimmy also likes encouraging kids to explore their passions and imaginations like he did
So it's time to find out what some of Jimmy's young fans would like to know. This is ask. Mr. Beast
Kidding we need to write a theme song with that being that like come on
There's every segment get an intro like that. We they did. Yes. Thank you. Yes
That's that is my favorite one in seven season
That is that's a total song that when people would love anyway, it's like you'd work hard on this
You have a million dollars
She's like, you know, I got that. Okay, cool. All right. We've got some questions sent in by I'm not kidding
We got to work on that. Okay a question sent in by kids on video
We're gonna roll them and then Jimmy can respond. So the first one is Henry
What is your favorite place you visited while filming?
Favorite place
Well, we we did a video. I mean it was years ago. We spent 24 hours in the desert
it was just me and my friends and we were just like what we just go to a store buy random things and then just
plop in the middle of a desert like we survived and
That's like how long for 24 hours?
But it's just like that was fun because it's just me and the boys just being really stupid in the middle of the desert
Yeah, yeah, I don't even remember the desert was I was just in the middle of a desert
Okay
Next is from Elliot. Hi, mr. B's pleasure talking to you. This is Elliot here and I noticed you got
442 million subscribers and that is a lot. So my question to you is
What is your advice on achieving that many subscribers? Thank you
Well Elliot we're on 460 million
Little
What's my advice
Honestly, just make content you love because like we talked about before it's gonna take you to have success
You know many many years and if you don't enjoy it, you'll quit way before you get me
No, I think that's just like like for people to hear because for us some of us it was like, oh man overnight
This guy just is wasn't overnight
It's eight years of you like not making money and really and there are people who probably think you were overnight
For sure, and of course, I was just saying before American Idol
My first day was just I'd never done anything before. Yeah. Yeah, we're both overnight success
Thanks, I know you're like, well, it's eight years the next is from Chloe
Hey, mr. Beast. Do you have any pets? Oh
This is actually an exclusive. I've never talked about my pets. Yes. What wait, what is your what?
I have a lot of pets, but we usually don't me and my fiance don't talk about it. But I I have okay fiance
She's very beautiful
But I we have to Shiva you news and they're so adorable
Those are gorgeous dog and then my fiance anytime she sees a stray cat just kidnaps it. So okay stray cats
Yeah. All right. Next is from Madison
Would you rather spend 24 hours in a shark tank or 24 hours in a room filled with
flying roaches
Was there an either option
That's a good question with shark. Well, so I'm in a tank that's perfect protect me from the shark
So I assume they won't yeah, no, no, no. No, that's not the question. What's it? No, you're in the tank with the show
I'm in the tank with the shark. That's what I got from it. Oh
So what I could die. The other is very disgusting
So I would probably just go with the disgusting one. They're locus. Even though yeah, I hate roaches. It wasn't Lucas, right?
Oh my god. Did she say roach? Yeah. No, she really like thought how can I torment? No. Yeah
I just read it. No, I would die. I'd pick the show you'd be fine with their shark roaches are the worst living creatures
Oh, I would never do it. They don't die
Yeah, I would never do it unless the inversion was a shark biting my arm off
you know what though if you know how someone was right like where they were raised because I was very poor neighborhood and
Roaches and then when I found out they could fly it was like a whole different level of evil and I would never I would
Always pick the other thing. Okay, I think I'd rather just risk it and hope the shark is fed, you know
Yeah, yeah, and we make friends. It's like Bruce. All right. Well, how about this? How about this you do 24 hours for the shark?
I'm 24 hours with the roaches and for sure. I'll lie right now a national television
For sure, I would die in a room full of roaches. I thought she said locusts I could do locusts
Yeah, you rewrote the question to what you wanted. Yeah, I was like it couldn't be that a reality distortion
Yeah, it's it. I have a lovely filter and like okay. Last one is from Turner
Hey, mr. Beast. What is what video you would like to do in the future? Oh, it's something you would like to do
Yeah, I could pull up my list of ideas
One that actually we've been working on. Oh, this is perfect. You should put this in the episode
I want to grab a hundred astronauts have them compete in like, you know
space space like
Challenges and things like that like living in a mock version the ISS for a week and things like that and the winner of it
All we send to space so blue origin SpaceX if you want to help me out
Everybody wins it gets people more into this space exploration gets people, you know more everyone minus the 99 astronauts that lost wins. Yeah
Yeah, yeah, everyone else. This is gonna be so happy
No, that's a good one, yeah, I love that. Okay everybody give it up for mr. B
You can catch these games season 2 now in prime video
