Hello. How are you? My name is Gemma. This is the English Dream podcast. Welcome back.
It's nice to see you. Today's episode is a reflection of my week. This is a slow podcast.
I will speak slowly so you can understand me. Please don't forget to use the subtitles
and if you like the video, subscribe. First, we will look at a rose, a bud and a thorn.
What's that, Gemma? Well, this is a theory used to help people to speak about their life
and reflect on their emotions and what happens in their life. A rose, the flower,
highlights a positive moment from the week. A bud, this is the small part of the flower
which is just about to grow, highlights something you feel hopeful about so it gives you hope
and excitement. Then you have a thorn which is a spike on a flower. It hurts
if you touch it. A thorn is something in your week that makes you feel nervous or
uncomfortable or awkward. Let's begin. The rose or highlight of my week is related to
badminton. This is a sport and on Sunday I decided to join a badminton club.
The badminton club is close to my house. It takes me 20 minutes to walk to the club.
When I arrived, I felt nervous because it was my first time in the club playing with those people.
However, the organiser or the manager of the club was really friendly. He made me feel
comfortable. Then we played badminton for two hours. I am not the best badminton player
but I enjoyed doing exercise and I think badminton is a fun sport. For me as well,
it was also an interesting experience because the badminton club is in my old school,
my old secondary school. So I used to go to that space nearly every day from Monday to Friday
when I was younger. I felt nostalgia when I returned to that space. It reminded me
of when I was a young girl. So I recommend you also join a sports club.
It feels scary but it's a good idea. My bud is this YouTube channel.
I posted my first video last week and I didn't receive lots of views but people did engage with
the video and I felt happy. I received seven likes and to me that's a lot of likes. So I feel
happy about that. My aim is to help people learn English. So if I helped seven people,
I feel good. Please give me your honest feedback. It helps me to create good and useful
content for you. A thorn for me. This is quite funny. Well, last week I decided to
cut my hair. So I asked my mum, Mum, can you give me a haircut? And she said, Yes, please.
Because she likes short hair and I like long hair. So then she cut my hair and I felt shocked.
When I saw the difference. I'll show you too. So you can see my hair. So this is my new hair.
I actually like it now. It's just very different. Before it was very long. So now it's short.
It's a big change for me. But I also think it's necessary. People say
when you go through change in your life, it's good to cut your hair.
So I think now my life is changing a lot. And I think it's a good idea to do these things.
Finally, I want to speak about a memorable moment in my week. This is something that
was really cool or interesting. And I want to share this moment with you. So my memorable
moment is going to a football match with my dad. My dad is a big football fan. He watches
football a lot. And he has a favorite team. The team is local. And the team is called Leighton
Orient. So we decided to watch a match with them. The match was Leighton Orient versus Cardiff City.
And the match took place or happened yesterday. Before the match, we had a nice day.
I saw my sister and my mom. And we went for a walk in the local park.
It was nice because I hadn't seen my family all together in a long time.
It was really special. In England, it's very cold now. So you need to wear lots and lots of clothes.
For example, gloves for your hands, a hat for your head, and a scarf for your neck.
It's very important. If you don't wear lots of clothes, you will be freezing.
So then we went to the match. We took the tube, which is the metro in England. I don't know why,
but we call it the tube, like ch, tube. So we took the tube. And then we arrived at the station.
We walked up the stairs. And then we walked down the local main road.
And then we arrived at the football stadium. There were lots of people with Leighton Orient
t-shirts, hats, scarves. In England, football fans are very, very passionate.
I wonder, how are football fans in your country? So we arrived at the football stadium. We
went to the common area. And we spoke to some of my dad's friends. My dad goes to the football
nearly every week. So he has lots of friends at the stadium. For me, it's nice to see
him and how he interacts with people. Then the match was going to begin. So we walked
from the common area to the seats. And it's amazing because you can see the football pitch,
the players, they walk out onto the pitch, the mascots, and the atmosphere is really
incredible. Then the game begun. Begun is like started. Started, begun. And Leighton Orient
were playing really well. In fact, Leighton Orient scored the first goal. It was 1-0.
Then Cardiff scored a goal. So it was 1-1. And then it was halftime.
Then we spoke about the match. People really wanted Leighton Orient to win. Leighton Orient
were playing really well. In the end, the result was 1-1. This is called a draw in England.
So that was the end of the match. It was a great experience. I really enjoyed it.
After that, my dad always goes to a supporters club, which is a space in the stadium
for drinking beer with your friends. So we went to the supporters club after the match,
and I spoke to some of my dad's friends. They were happy, and they were drinking,
and they are lovely people. After that, my dad finished his beer, and we went home.
When we arrived home, we were happy because the weather was so cold. So we arrived,
we took off our coats, our hats, our scarves, we put on the kettle, and we made some tea.
So that was my memorable moment. Okay, now we have arrived to the end of the podcast.
I hope you enjoyed this episode, and please give me feedback. It helps me. Tell me,
did you like it? Did you not like it? Why? Why not? And I hope to see you here again next week.
Thank you very much, and have a lovely week. Bye!
