Some players hit only with the arm like this or this. Others try to use their body
but they get lost in details. They think too much about hip rotation, hip rotation.
How far the hip rotates, when and where they stop here, here or here. Yes, body rotation is one of
the main sources of power and we use body rotation in the backhand, forehand, slice, serve. By the
way, I made a free road map PDF what to learn first on the serve and what to learn next. The
link is in the description and the pinned comment. But here is a problem. It's extremely hard, if not
impossible to consciously control this rotation, especially when the hips stop to create a
catapult effect. The body stops, the racket goes faster. So instead of chasing something you can't
really control, I want you to focus on something you can actually control. The start and the finish.
Look, a clean start and a clean finish. If these positions are correct, the body will organize
everything in between. Start, finish. Now look at the contact point. I'm not trying to control my
hips or the rotation. It's already organized by the motion. If you want to develop a free effortless
swing, start with shadow swings. Forget about the ball for a moment, shadow swing. Listen to your
body. First, you should feel the weight of the racket here, in this face of your swing. That is
a sign you are relaxed enough. Next, you hear a whoosh sound in your contact zone, in front of
you. But don't try to make a loud aggressive sound. This will only lead to tension. The sound can be
soft or a bit stronger. But it comes from an effortless swing. Next, watch your finish. You
should feel the racket flows into a smooth finish. No sudden stop, no crash, just a smooth finish. So
feel the weight of your racket, feel the weight of your racket, whoosh sound here, and smooth finish.
Smooth finish. Once you get the hang of it, you can move on to hitting the ball. I recommend doing
one or two shadow swings without the ball, and then hitting. Use the shadow swing as a reference,
and then try to repeat the same motion when you hit the ball. So, start, finish. Of course,
check your start. Everything should be in the right place. Your racket, your off-arm space,
you load your outside leg. Everything should be done correctly. And check your finish. Your weight
on your inside leg. You transfer your weight during the swing. And listen to your body.
Don't overthink body rotation. You can do it!
