It's so weird how Las Vegas is like the only city in the country that just ends.
Like the urban sprawl doesn't spread out to another city or anywhere else just
ends at a road and then it's desert from there on out. Very strange.
This is honestly a pretty sweet spot that we're in because I'm kind of out in the wilderness
that I got here on. I think I'm by Sunrise Mountain but I'm also 20 minutes from a
planet fitness so I'm not too far removed from civilization. If I really need to go in for
anything like get a workout or food or supplies but I still get the peace of being out in nature
especially when my doors open this way. We are in our second state of our cross-country mega-marathon
road trip to all 50 of the U.S. states. Nevada which is where I ended my last video and I think
I spent too many nights in a row in the city cooped up in the van and I just couldn't take it anymore
so I had to get out into the desert at least a little bit for the day before we head back into
town or out wherever we're going. Got myself a little workout in this morning and then I like
to try to take advantage of my van shower as much as I can in the summertime because it's so nice
taking a hot shower out in the middle of nowhere. Kind of reminds me of when I was a kid and we had
a beach house to shower in the little beach shower. Sometimes it's annoying cooking with
the doors open because the wind constantly tries to blow out that flame and then it makes my pan
cooler but I think this is about good. I did also have a little bit of a invader in the van last night.
He's still here. I'm letting him stay rent-free because I think he'll be helpful. I don't know if
he's actually still here. I haven't seen him all day but he's right in the back over there above
my bed. Keeps watch over me at night and I would offer to share my meal with him but he doesn't
really like human food. A little bit of soy sauce, a little bit of sriracha. There you have it, breakfast.
He was here last night up in his little, oh he looks like he got another bug,
up in his little funnel house up there. I don't know if you guys can see it on camera but it was a
little spider. He's got a very intricate web. I don't know if he's trying to send me messages or
something but it kind of looks like letters. Looks like right there there's a heart. Maybe he loves me.
I don't know. I haven't seen him all day. Maybe he crawled in my mouth while I was sleeping or something.
I think I'm gonna be staying in the southwest for at least the next week or so and I don't really
know what route I want to take on my way around the country as I travel to all 50 states. I think
I want to do northern first, stay out of the maximum heat of the summer and then kind of come
back down around as it cools off in the winter time. I'll put a poll up on my Instagram and my
YouTube to see whether you guys want me to take a more northern route first or more southern route
first and then we'll head out from there. So if you're watching this video and you're seeing this, go
check the poll that's going to be on my YouTube post and also maybe on my Instagram story. I am
running a little bit low on provisions. I should have gone to the grocery store before coming out
here. So I'm not sure what the plan is. What I do know is I need supplies and I'm gonna be honest.
I don't even know if I'm allowed to be out where I'm at. There's a lot of trails back here but this is
the entrance I took to get in here. It's just kind of a part of the fence that was cut open. I think
it's BLM land and also my friend Alan said he stays here all the time which he might be meeting
up with us here later tonight. I didn't have any issues so it's fine enough. So this right here is
a perfect example of what I was talking about with like the city just ends and then it's desert which
is so unlike any other city in America I guess other than small towns but for a big city you
have houses on that side it looks like a normal neighborhood and then it just ends and it's the
desert. Houses, normal neighborhood, vast desert wasteland. So tonight for dinner we're cooking
another subscriber submitted recipe and it's an old family recipe from Bulgaria that his grandma
would make for him all the time. So he sent me the recipe, he sent me the instructions and tonight
we're going to see if we can do Victor's grandma and this dish any justice. And according to Victor
this recipe is supposed to be good for a hot summer night so I figured it's the perfect recipe to cook
when I'm in the desert.
I'm not even gonna worry about unpacking this stuff either because it's just gonna
all get used tonight anyways. As long as I can just stuff it in there.
Decided uh we're gonna camp back out in the same spot because I talked to uh Alan who I see up there
now and he said he was coming out here to camp tonight so I figured might as well stay close.
Alila, what's up dude? What's up dude? It's been so long, how you doing? How you doing?
What up dude? How you like feeling? Good bro, surprisingly fresh. Yeah? Just lack of sleep.
How you feeling Alila? Oh he's still got a ball here. Who's this? Uh David. David? Oh yeah. I'm
sure you guys are both beat. Yeah. I think what got me the most was the lack of sleep but I feel
like yeah since we're doing like quarter mile legs, half a mile legs, it really kept us fresh bro.
How much sleep did you get on the whole? Dude, not a lot. I like four hours, something like that.
Yeah, you got one of my favorite spots because I can run out here. I can ride my dirt bike.
I have the gym right there. It's just dude. Yeah, this is a pretty primo spot. Yeah, yeah. And it's
like you don't feel like you're like uh too far out but you don't feel like you're like too close
to the city. For sure. Mr. Alila. Happy Easter girl. So I haven't gotten my dirt bike yet like
Alan's got but I do have my e-bike and I want to go check out some of these spots up in the
mountains up here before the uh sun sets. We're gonna take this bad boy out. Oh look at that.
My friend is still here. I really don't mind him. Weirdly enough, I don't mind him being there.
I just wish he wasn't right above my head but maybe he'll help me catch bugs if any bugs get
in the van at night. My spider teacher. It's like Rocky from uh Project Hail Mary. We're gonna start
talking. This thing has been great for uh going out and exploring places and checking out things
I wouldn't be able to check out in the van whether it be in the city or out in the middle of the
desert. It just makes it a little bit more fun living in the van and this bike is perfect because
it's got nice suspension. It's got a great ride whether I'm on dirt or paved roads but honestly
most importantly it's just a blast to ride. Look at this view from up here. We are all the way down
in that little spot down there. So we rode all the way down and around. There's a bunch of bike trails
and it's cool some of these rocks are like rusty orange from the oxidation. I should have brought
some water. It's really hot out here but it is beautiful. Full 180 panoramic views and you get
the whole skyline. Being up here at night time would be crazy with that skyline. Oh look at that.
That thing would be so much fun to ride down but it's crazy how smoothly this thing rides and how
well it handles even this kind of terrain. When I'm going over the bumpiest of bumps or the steepest
of hills it just tackles them with no problem. It's so powerful. It's so comfortable to ride and it's so
much fun to get out here to explore some of these places a little bit more because I have this bike.
So shout out to Electric for sponsoring this video. Having the e-bike in the van has been a
absolute game changer. So if you've been looking for something that is just a great all-around
e-bike that you can ride in the desert, off-road, through the streets, pack in the back of your car
because it folds in half for an absolutely amazing price, click the link that will be in the
description of this video. Go check them out. Get out there. See the world. I almost definitely took
a wrong turn getting home. I just had to ride across a bunch of raw desert because I couldn't
see the van but we made it thanks to my trusty steed. That's not your van. Want to come inside?
Come on Alila. Come on. Check out the house. What's up? It is so incredibly hot out. I also
made the mistake of not bringing any water up there. I'm incredibly thirsty. Go get it. I need a dog.
You look dusty Alila. Not a bad view from bed though. I think uh they're over there taking naps.
They're still recovering from running 300 miles across the desert. Pretty cool that this is like
my bed though and I can just park it wherever I want and just have whatever view I want from bed.
I've been in the cities too long. This is nice. Not starting? Alan's trying to get his bike started.
We went out uh I don't know when it was like two or three months ago in my uh stick shift Porsche
and it died out on us so we pushed it down a hill, pop started. He's trying to do the same
with his bike now because it won't start but I think I'm gonna get started cooking some
Well I guess not really cooking because dinner tonight is not cooked. Well half of it isn't
cooked but anyways. Tonight's recipe was sent to me by Victor Dimitrov. Victor says hey Ryan
this isn't really a recipe it's more of a memory from when I was a kid. On the hottest summer days
my grandma would make tarator. Tarator? She'd grab yogurt from the fridge, hand me a cucumber to cut
even though I was terrible at it and then quickly fix a few herself. Garlic went in next. She'd say
just a little but it never was and then a ton of dill. She'd mix the yogurt with some cold water
until it looked just right. I asked her once how she knew and she just said you'll see. It's from
the Balkans, mostly Bulgaria. Simple, cold, and perfect for the summer which is perfect for right
now because it's hot. He then sent the full ingredients, instructions on how to cook it,
and then said we never really sat down to eat it. Just a bowl or a glass somewhere shady,
quiet. It wasn't fancy, just a relief from the heat. He said I still make it the same way now
every time slightly different but it always tastes like summer. Victor Dimitrov. Well thank you for
sending that in Victor. Hopefully I do it justice. Let's get started cooking. Get out our ingredients
and then I have a bowl of water in the fridge because I don't have any ice or any way to really
get cold water so I just put a bowl of water in the fridge and this is the rest of what we need.
I'm also making a kind of Mediterranean kebab thing to go with it because I don't think this
is really a full meal. It's more of like a snack or refreshment. I looked it up and said some people
drink it like a out of a cup like it's a drink. Some people eat like a cold soup. Either way we're
gonna make some kebabs with it. We'll start with the soup, get that in the fridge, get it nice and
cold, and then we'll do the kebabs. First, prep. So according to Victor we need, once we get this
protective covering off of this cucumber, to finely dice or grate that as well as mince some garlic
and some dill. Victor also said finely diced or grated. Grated sounds easier so we're gonna
grate this thing. This feels really raw. Then we can take our dill, and Dimitri said it was usually
a ton so we're gonna try to use a ton, and chop that up. And then the final thing, two cloves of
garlic. And there are three prepared and chopped ingredients. I'm also just now realizing that the
only bowl that I have in my van is in my fridge full of water and I need that bowl to make the
so we're gonna have to empty this out while saving one cup of the cold water.
So now to our bowl we can add everything together. Starting with two cups of all-fat. They made a
point to say get the fattiest yogurt you can find so I don't know if that means this but
fatty yogurt, two cups of that. One cup of slightly cold water. Whisk together
carefully until nice and creamy like so. Then we stir in our cucumber and then we can add our
garlic and dill. And then the final thing is a drizzle of olive oil and some salt to taste.
And give it one last stir. And that is our cold soup. Then we can get that covered and
throw it in the fridge. Gotta get nice and cold while we cook these kebabs hopefully.
After I got the cold soup in the fridge I pulled out my chicken to start getting ready to
bake my kebabs but it looked a little greasy so I pulled it out and smelled it. Chicken was
definitely bad. So we're making a last-minute audible and we're just doing meatballs with
these ingredients with some red onions, taco bell seasoning mixture, flour, mayonnaise, garlic,
an egg and hoping they stay together. Not fully confident it's gonna work out but
whatever. Also look at this sunset over the city. I don't know if you can see. Maybe you'll block
the sun. The whole skyline looks so cool. It's gonna look so sick at night. I mean you can just
see the entire skyline with the mountains in the background. See the ferris wheel, the Luxor. I can't
wait to see the sphere too. I feel like the sphere is gonna look really cool from here. But anyways
let's start balling some meat. This is probably gonna be really loud for the mic with the tinfoil
and the gloves. Horrible. All right I don't know if this is gonna work. I'm just gonna throw this
pan and see if it looks somewhat edible. I think there's too much egg for the meat ratio. Or maybe
I just invented a whole new food. I really honestly don't know. What I can tell you is I've never seen
that looks like risotto. But looks can be deceiving. So maybe they'll just be really good. I think I'm
just gonna put all of this mixture into there at once and just flatten it down into a patty.
And then I'm thinking I'll cut it off into those little like strips of meat. Kind of like a jerky
or like one giant hamburger patty. All right meat in. And that's what we're working with.
It looks pretty gross because it's ground turkey. Which isn't the best of meats when you're looking
for flavor. But when you're looking for macros it is. I think that's it. Those are my Ryan's special
meat dipper pancake pieces. Maybe they'll be good dipped in the soup. I don't know. But
that's what we got. That's what we're working with for dinner.
We'll let that cold soup or terator. Terator. How do you say it? Terator. Terator. I'm sorry. But
we'll let that cool down for like 30 to 45 minutes because my fridge isn't that cold.
Watch the sunset over the city. Take some pictures on my lovely camera. So bright.
There's lights on. There's a lot of bugs flying around. They're gonna be
mighty attracted to these beacons. But I think the soup. Oh it's nice and cold.
Let it sit in there for like 45-ish minutes. And I'm thinking these. This will honestly be good
to dip it in. It's not bad but it's not good. Yo do you guys want to try some of this cold soup?
It actually is pretty good. Take as much as you want for real. Do one more. Smells good.
I like the perfect summer snack. And I can definitely see how how people drink this. It's so
good. Yeah especially like on a hot hot summer day like 100 degrees out here bro. It's like so light
so refreshing. The city looks crazy. Look at that. Epic bro. I got a SpaceX launch. And it's so cool
it gets to the end and it like explodes. Yeah it opens up. What a treat. I love watching these go
off. I had no idea. I had no idea too actually. That's crazy. It looks so cool. I've seen a couple
of these SpaceX launches before and they're always so cool to watch. We ended up sitting
out there and talking for a while but I never gave the recipe a rating. Shout out again to
Victor for sending this recipe. Definitely very refreshing. It's not really a meal but in terms of
a dipping sauce or like something that you would sip on if you were sitting outside. I give it a
solid 7 out of 10. It's very good. Very simple but not really like a full meal which I don't think
that's really what it's meant to be. But the duty it's meant to fulfill it does very good.
I almost missed that. Get up there.
