It has been a wild 24 hours here in Northern Michigan! After a massive rainstorm dumped 2 inches of rain on top of melting snow and ice, we woke up to no power and widespread flooding. We took a drive around our local area to check out the dams and the rising water levels. Some areas are even under "Ready, Set, Go" evacuation orders because of the risk of old dams breaking. While we are safe on higher ground, seeing the water rushing over roads and into people's yards is truly intense!
After checking on the local infrastructure, we headed into the woods to see how our favorite trails held up. We found down trees, rushing culverts, and even some hidden waterfalls that don't normally exist! Jamie had to do some heavy lifting to clear a tree off the trail so we could keep exploring. Even with all the chaos, the temperatures jumped up to a beautiful 67 degrees, making it feel like spring has finally arrived in the north woods.
We finished the day with a long walk with our three Siberian Huskies: Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor. Eleanor was quite the chatterbox as usual, and the girls were so excited to finally see grass instead of snow! It’s crazy how fast the weather changes here—from 60 degrees and sunny to freezing temperatures in just a few hours. Life is short, make memories with your dogs, even when things get a little soggy!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR DAY 🚨 Massive flooding updates and dam evacuation warnings in Northern Michigan. 💨 Recovering from 24 mph winds and a night without power. 🌊 Driving through water over the road to see the local watershed. 🌲 Jamie moving a downed tree to clear the trail for our adventure. ❄️ Finding the very last patches of ice and snow deep in the woods. 🐸 Hearing the first "spring peeper" frogs of the season. ☀️ Enjoying a rare 67 degree day before the temperature dropped back down. 🐾 Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor taking their first official spring walk. 📢 Eleanor yelling her way through the neighborhood because she's so happy. 🍪 Ending the day with well-deserved treats for three very good huskies.

Good wonderful
beautiful
morning buddies.
Holy cow.
What a day it was yesterday.
We didn't vlog yesterday and we probably should have
but it rained all day.
From like the middle of the night to the middle of the night
last night and then we had 24
mile an hour winds last night. We actually lost
power for most of the night.
Can't really tell out here
that we got that much rain and craziness
but we might have to go take a ride
and go see the dam
and go see some of the flooding.
There's massive flooding happening in our area.
We're safe
but it's crazy and then north of us
in Sheboygan there's like a risk
that the dam there is going to
break so they have a ready set go
evacuation order ready and as of
this morning they have enacted the
ready part of it. They're telling people in Sheboygan, Michigan
to be ready to flee
if the dam up there breaks.
It's kind of crazy right now. So if you do not
know, we live in northern Michigan. Michigan
has tons of water, lakes, rivers
watersheds, all of that stuff
and a lot of dams and a lot of our
infrastructure for our dams
is extremely old.
Some of them are already too
old for their life cycle so there's
a whole bunch of them that
really need to be torn down or
somebody needs to buy them and they need to be
upgraded. Long, long, long story
short, there's a lot going on with a lot
of the dams in northern Michigan right now.
Because you guys saw we had so much snow and
ice and then everything started melting
really rapidly and then we got like two inches
of rain yesterday. We're supposed to get more
rain tomorrow. It's a little crazy
around here. Now as I said, where Jamie and I
are, we are fine. We are on higher ground.
There is a lake not far from us
and the ditches out there could fill up with water
but we're good as of right now.
We aren't close to any of the
rivers. Like my parents live
on Thunder Bay River. They actually
live at the flood end of Thunder Bay
River so they're past one of the
dams and they have a ton
of water at
their house. But again, right now they're
okay. My mom said as they're
like taking showers and stuff you can hear the
gurgling because they have a well and a septic and
the water level is so high. Some of that stuff isn't
working real great but their house
is fine. Everything out there is fine.
So like I said, we might have to go
drive around and see what we can see.
We checked all our trees and all the things
this morning and everything in our yard looks
good. But yeah, those 25 mile
an hour wind last night knocked out
our power, knocked out my parents power.
Bunch of people lost power last night but
we don't have any downed trees which is good.
Hi Kira! How you doing?
It's like 60 degrees
outside today. This is crazy.
And it's supposed to be cold again in a few days.
It's trying. Oh there's a
bug! I saw a bug.
It's official. Spring is here.
Memphis is like, I'm going back here to check out the fact that
there's finally no
snow and or ice back there.
Today, the day I'm filming this is
April 12th I think?
Or 13th? I don't know. It's the
12th or the 13th I think.
So that's how long it took for
all of our snow and ice to be gone.
Look! It's a real flower!
Wow! So we came down to
SciTech Park first. This is where we usually
walk the dogs into the water sometimes
and there's like three steps.
There's three still. Yeah.
There's three steps that are covered
and the bridge back in there that
Shelby and I went through one time flooded like this
is covered as well.
It's moving fast. It is
moving very fast.
And this is just going into the watershed. Look! There's a little
whirlpool happening. It's like right
there.
Huh! Yeah, this is just
the watershed. So...
Alright, let's go see what else we can see.
Look! We found a waterfall, hun!
There's a waterfall right there.
This is normally...
There's a duck!
There's a duck over there, yeah, floating down the river.
This is not normally flowing.
This is a partridge and pinecrest.
Yeah. And it
doesn't normally look like this.
Didn't there used to be like a walkway bridge that went across there?
Uh, it looks like at one point.
Yeah, cause there's the other side of it
and the trail ends there.
Oh boy. Yeah, a little bit
of flooding. They suddenly have lakefront property.
That, uh...
They were smart enough to build their garden.
Yeah.
You gotta be careful here. Look at it.
It's just flowing across.
It's two big culverts and it's
still going over. Still going. Wow.
Water over
road. You don't say!
I don't think it might not.
These people... There's houses back here
and they have
riverfront property all of a sudden. Yeah, this could be
scary. That's a little...
It's a little bumpy. It's a little runny right there.
It's not deep though, guys. You can see the bottom.
That's the important part.
Look at it running.
Wow. Yeah.
Just a little bit of runoff.
Wow. Thankfully, it looks
like it's still at least a foot and a half
below their driveway bridge.
But look at that water.
Yeah, going right through the culvert
there.
And then, that's the golf course back there.
And it's, uh...
There's no goofy golfers today.
Look at that!
It's just coming out.
We should go get the kayaks.
Let's see how fast it's flowing.
We can just kayak
right down this whole area.
It's going about this fast.
How fast is that? I don't know.
Sixty-seven degrees.
Oh my lord. Yeah, it's sixty-seven
degrees outside, guys. It's warm.
About four miles out. Wow, this is
so crazy.
It doesn't happen very often here, but when it does...
There is, which means there's more water.
We can't go this way.
They've got the road closed. I remember when this house
was for sale.
I do. Look it. That's the golf course.
They have riverfront property.
That water is moving
so fast. Their grass is
gonna be so green. Yeah.
Wow. Oh gosh, I hope everything
in their house is okay. These poor
people. This is nuts.
Oh, they have a basement.
Yes, that house has a basement.
Most of these do not, but I do know
that one does. Okay, we're not driving
through this because the road is closed.
I don't think
they're home. I think they've been evacuated.
Not that it would get, like, super
deep, but still.
Hey, cobra chickens!
You're having a good time in the water.
Alright, we headed out
Devil's Lake Trail area. This is
where we went snowmobiling.
We wanted to come check on
some stuff back here.
Hopefully the trees are
not all over the road because
because
there was that ice storm
and we haven't been back here since then.
Let's see what's going on back here.
We'll check on the lake.
The water in the woods
is almost over this culvert.
You can see it, like, sucking down
into it. And then
here, Jamie, I'll show you
the other side.
Coming out like
crazy!
And yes,
there's still ice back here.
I don't think anybody's
been down this way in a while.
That tree goes right across
the road. We could just go this way.
I thought that, but there's another
big stump up there. Yeah, I don't want
to go off the trail.
Yeah, that's probably not a great idea.
Alright, Jamie's gonna move
a tree. I think we've seen this move
by you before.
You can do it! There he goes,
moving the tree.
He'll pull it, and then he'll
turn, and then he'll slowly pull
it off the trail, and that way we can get around it.
It snapped off right there. There's a whole bunch
of cut trees, but they didn't cut that tree.
And then it fell across the trail.
Now he hooked it up again.
And look, now it's off the trail.
We forgot our saw
once again, but
look, now it's out of the way.
We found the lake flooding.
Can you see?
Can I try to zoom?
Into the water.
You can see there's
into the water.
This is where the
lake is starting to
flood. Over the
road a little, and over here
as well.
It's like
8 inches deep. Yeah, at least.
It's definitely flooded.
There you go.
There's my culvert. Can you see the culvert?
Oh, there it is.
It's completely under water.
That means there's one on this side too.
It's under water.
It's still doing it's job though.
It's only flooded right up here.
And not horribly bad.
No, and it's not flowing here.
No, and it's not like...
It's not super deep.
This is like Tomahawk.
Yeah. Oh gosh, I bet that's
crazy flooded right now. There you go.
There you go.
Yeah, it's
a little deep over here too.
Huh.
Okay.
There you go.
Here's a view for you.
Yeah, it's not too deep, but
it's a couple inches.
There's a chunk of ice.
I felt you go over it. Look, tree.
There's the ice.
Not too bad.
And we do. We have a stick
stowaway over there.
Okay. Jamie and I
both just had the discussion that we don't think
we've ever seen Devils Lake this
high.
Yeah.
And then
this is where we stopped when we went
snow mo... There's something in the water
over there.
I don't like the noise it's making.
Don't be a trapped
animal. I don't want to get wet.
I might have to investigate. Anyway,
I wanted to show you guys that
there's some downed trees here.
This is where we stopped with the snowmobile
to look at the lake. And now
all these trees have come down.
I say, are you going towards it?
We gotta go see what this was.
Well, we kind of walked over this way a little bit more.
We heard some ducks.
So we might...
Yeah, I think it's a duck. I think Jamie's
right. I can't see
it. And it's so thick
right here. We just wanted to make
sure it wasn't something that needed help.
But we think it's a duck.
That's what we're hoping.
Well, we did not bring
the saw.
And they're really wedged in the
trees over there. And
I don't know if you can see this way.
That's where they came out of the ground.
There's a hill over there. I don't think we
can pull these. And there's not much
way to get around.
And there's a ton more
down up here that we can already see.
I say, turn around and
go back the other way.
Also, Jamie, I just had a tick
on me. I did. I saw.
That was gross. I know. I feel a little creepy
crawly now. I'm just saying.
It is.
Yep. I don't think we're getting around
this one. We can turn around and go back
through all that water. That'll be fun.
Turn your audio up. Tell me if you guys
can hear it.
Those are frogs, right? I believe so.
We think those are frogs.
That's crazy.
Oh look, we gotta go back through this again.
I'll film it
with this this time instead of the 360.
Cause look, now you guys can see just how much
water is rushing right there.
And right here.
Kind of see how deep it is.
It's really not that bad.
Okay, that's really deep
Right there.
And right there. But then it gets shallow again.
So we're totally good.
I feel like I don't even have to ask.
Do you
want to go...
Do you want to go for a walk?
Yeah? That was
the quickest yes ever.
You do?
Memphis, be careful.
And the gate's open. Here they come. Look out.
The garage door's open.
See you later. Bye.
We're two seconds
into this walk.
We're two seconds in.
And you're up front.
I don't think you need to be making all that noise.
Ha ha, we're leaving your sisters behind.
We're leaving them behind.
We're going I suppose.
Hello happy girl.
She's like, now we're moving.
Now I'm going. I'm going.
She was quiet for a second.
That tree's still touching the power line.
It is.
Maybe it's not a power line.
I don't think it is.
I guess that would explain why they didn't fix it yet.
Hey Shaggy.
My goodness.
Hey.
Back to the Eleanor yelling.
She's like, no.
I'm on a mission.
I'm going to yell all I want. I'm happy. I'm yelling.
Memphis is like,
I'm just happy to be walking.
We got to sniff this pole.
She's like, no.
No dad, I'm excited.
Oh no.
There's a little mini waterfall
coming out of their base.
Not necessarily their basement, but out from under their house.
Yes, let's keep tracking
and we'll count how many.
There's at least one. The neighbor across the street
from us had one, so there's two.
Let's see how many we find.
You can stop and sniff the things
they're sniffing.
Wow Memphis, I saw that.
I'm so happy. This is so great.
I'm having so much fun.
62 degrees out it says right now.
Yeah, I believe it.
It's pretty nice out.
I almost forgot to film it. We got another little waterfall there
that officially makes at least three.
We probably missed some though.
We got some full ditches.
I'm sure there's... That house up there
pumps out into the ditch, so that would be at least
what, five I think
total now? Five little mini waterfalls?
This one pumps out here.
I don't see any over here, so I think we're good
on this side. No, we're not swimming
in that. Don't let her in the water!
Get out of the
ditch water!
No ditch water.
She could swim in that. She looks like
she was thinking about it.
Somebody was trying to encourage her.
Their culverts are full all the way up
to the top. All the way
to the top. Yeah,
don't get in that. It's probably nasty.
I don't know that that's
great water. It's like runoff water.
Whoa! There's a... Yeah!
A little bit of water there.
Hear them?
I hear spring peepers.
The male lady told us
that this road is flooded too.
Kira? Don't you dare!
Whoa!
Her paw touched it!
I'm keeping Eleanor over here.
Oh yeah! It is flooding back there.
Sure is!
Kira!
Do not!
Do not get in the ditch water!
Look hun! It is flooded
that way and he did clear cut
all the way to the road. Now it's flooded
flooded. Oh yeah!
You guys can see back there
where he clear cut.
That's crazy! Alright Eleanor, you want to
check it out? She's like,
No! We're not swimming!
She's like, I would totally get in that
water! Get out of
the ditch!
Let's go check out this waterfall Memphis!
Or Memphis... Eleanor! Whatever your name is!
You too Memphis! Let's go check out
this waterfall, cause we found another one.
There's another one!
Going into the ditch!
We just got back from the walk and Eleanor's like,
Mom, will you open this pool gate?
Mom, maybe open this?
We're not getting... No! We're not getting in the pool!
It's not even ready yet!
Not yet sweetheart! Oh!
Critter!
Memphis is like, Oh my gosh
you guys, that was such a long walk!
You did it! You did a mile!
You'll be a little sore, but you did it!
Stop tripping over your own feet!
It is so crazy to think
that it was 62 degrees
out when we walked the dogs
and it's already down to 42
and it's only gonna be 39 tomorrow.
Is she gonna kick that light on?
I think I angled it right, so maybe she would?
Nope, not yet.
Done! We got a new light back there.
And I was hoping that
when Eleanor got to about right there
that it would turn on, so I might have to move it.
What? You want your cookie?
Alright.
You did pretty good on your walk today and you weren't
too sore after we got home.
We call that a win, right?
That's a win!
Alright you guys, we hope you enjoyed today's video.
As always, thanks so much for watching. Thanks for subscribing.
Stay positive, dream big, and we will see you again soon.
Go to bed.
Go on.
She's getting water first.
Good night, audience.
