American Harvest 2023 video shows large-scale harvesting of thousands of tons of fruits and vegetables across the United States. Modern machinery and optimal processes help increase productivity, reduce labor, while ensuring quality and food safety.
Hello everyone, today we will go to farms in some states like Michigan, Florida and California
to see how the process of harvesting thousands of tons of vegetables and fruit here works.
First we'll take a look at the process of harvesting thousands of pumpkins in a field
in Florida. Here the pumpkins will be cut and filled into plastic trays.
Before packing thousands of these pumpkins are dipped in a solution that keeps them fresh for
longer. At harvest time each year more than 4,000 workers flock to Florida's pumpkin farms to work.
The second farm we will visit is a pear farm in Michigan. Instead of using modern harvesting
machines, millions of pears here are also hand-picked to avoid crushing. The time from
harvesting pears in Michigan usually takes place in late August and early September.
Most fresh pears after harvest will be consumed within two weeks. According to statistics
released in 2020, the pear production in Michigan is about 4,900 tons, accounting for about 13%
of the total pear production in the entire United States. We are currently on a grape farm in New
York. Like the two farms at the beginning of this video, the harvesting process at this grape farm
is also done by hand. Once harvested, billions of these grapes are sent to factories for wine
and juice production. Currently in New York there are about 1,600 vineyards and more than
400 wineries. In 2021 the grape production in New York was around 153,000 tons.
Here's what's going on at a strawberry farm in California. Millions of strawberries will be
picked and placed in plastic trays before being transported to the gathering site.
Today California is home to 90% of the strawberry production in the United States. The income of
these workers will be calculated according to the number of boxes of strawberries they pick.
Every time a strawberry harvest takes place about 110,000 workers flock to California to work.
Next we will go to a tomato farm in Florida to see how millions of tomatoes here are harvested.
During the harvest season 450 workers will be hired to work on this farm and most of them
are Mexican. The income that these workers receive is around $13 to $17 per hour.
After about four hours of continuous work the workers here will be provided with a free snack.
We are currently at a raspberry farm in California. Before starting the harvesting
process these workers will have to undergo an exercise session of around five minutes.
Millions of raspberries once harvested are packed on the spot
before being shipped to supermarkets and fruit shops.
Here's what's going on in a lettuce field in Texas. These workers will cut the lettuce plants
and then put them in plastic bags before they are packed into the carton.
At the end of this video we take a look at the harvesting process taking place
on a celery farm in California. How do you feel about the process of harvesting vegetables and
fruits in this video? Let us know what you think in the comments section of the video.
Goodbye and see you in our next video.
