This is a video showing the procedure to remove air bubbles from a magnetic compass. This is a PSC defect.
Good evening, our magnetic compass is having air bubbles so we will try
and fill up the magnetic compass liquid. This is how the magnetic compass looks and we are
standing on the mangi island. So I have removed the cover and as you can see the magnetic compass
is fully protected from weather with a metal casing. So I am going to remove the metal casing
of the magnetic compass. This is how we will be able to read from the bridge, basically reflected
from this part. We are having a big air bubble in the magnetic compass and this screw is the point
of entry for the liquid inside. Basically the ship should be having a mixture of alcohol and
distilled water. So we are now running short of alcohol so we are going to use distilled water.
Distilled water can be used even the drinking package drinking water can be used
for the purpose of filling up the magnetic compass. This is the air bubble. Now I'm
going to open the screw that will allow us an entry for the water. Now the requirements are
distilled water can be normal package drinking water, a syringe and alcohol. Since the ship is
running out of alcohol the needle should be along with the syringe but we are not having a needle
so we are just going to force the water into the magnetic compass. Since it's a big bubble
it will take more than normal amount of water to fill up. We have finally filled up the whole
magnetic compass with magnetic fluid. Now you can see there is no more bubble
in the magnetic compass. So we are going to replace it, replace the cover. The cover of
magnetic compass has been replaced so that's the end of it.
