Today, I’m in Manila Chinatown (Binondo) — the oldest Chinatown in the world 🇵🇭 I spent the day eating my way through Binondo to see what the food here is really like and why people say this is one of the best places to eat in Manila.
From classic Chinese-Filipino dishes to comforting noodles, rice meals, and local favourites that people have grown up eating, I’m trying a mix of well-known spots and everyday eats around the area.
If you’ve ever wondered what to eat in Binondo or what food in Manila Chinatown is actually like, this video is for you. No tourist traps — just honest first-time reactions and real local food.
If you love discovering authentic food, historic neighbourhoods, and proper local eats, I think you’ll really enjoy this one. Come eat with me, foodies 🥰🇵🇭
Foodies, today we're in the oldest Chinatown in the world.
Foodies, we're getting one of the chicken ones.
Foodies, we wanted to try some buns as well. We came to Lingnam to try it.
Originally we wanted to go to the Shanghai one which was next door.
It was packed, it's very popular but the only problem with that one is
it's got only pork version. This one has a chicken adobo version as well.
This one looks really nice, so toasted on the top and a little bit toast on the bottom.
The bun is really soft and the chicken inside is very... I need to taste again.
Oh yeah, the chicken is so tasty. It's like a little bit of salt,
a little bit of pepper and some cilantros inside of it I think.
That's a very generous filling in the bun and that's all but that's all it needs.
It's such a simple little snack. I mean for some people it would be like a breakfast item
but this is a snack for today and I also bought this which is a coconut milk drink.
I want to have a taste. Very coconut milky,
very sweet but this is delicious as well and it goes really good with the bun.
Honestly, I can probably eat like five of these buns. It's very light.
I also recommend you try the popular place if you eat pork. Next location.
Foodie's cameraman is gonna dance a tiktok dance.
Very good.
I just saw another popular spot. There's a lot of people inside.
I just wanted to taste what they're serving. It's not on my list but
hey if you see a queue, you join the queue.
Foodies, don't be like me getting excited to get your grub.
First of all, go to the counter and pay for it and then go to the other counter and claim it.
But anyway, we got our bicho bicho which is a fried twisted dough or a doughnut.
It looks a little bit like yaochao which is like the Chinese fried dough.
This one is a little bit different because it has a powder on it and it's white and the powder is
I don't know. I just want to do that.
Powder is powdered milk and sugar. You can see it's completely white and I got the long version.
You can get the cut version and it's really big. I'm going to show you by taking it out.
It's huge. It's big as my head.
It tastes so good. It's like sugar powder on doughnut.
That doughnut is so soft and it's so airy.
The man's a legend. He got the fresh one for me.
So it's so hot but the doughnut itself has no sweetness to it.
The powder makes it a little bit more sweeter but this is delicious to eat.
But very messy to eat as well.
It's like snowing. Look, it's snowing.
This is such an interesting marketing strategy.
So instead of having small, medium and large, I'm guessing you put sexy, delicious and yummy.
That's so cool.
Foodies, we got mogu or whatever it is.
It's got lychee jelly on the bottom and I think that's also a lychee drink.
That's very good. Definitely lychee jelly.
That's very like chewy. That's very refreshing.
Very sweet too but very delicious. I like this.
Foodies, we saw this really popular place but the only reason I know it's popular is
because there's a lot of people that were queuing outside and there was like a whole
gathering and they were holding this.
Sugar cane juice.
The sugar cane was getting crushed at the front and someone was even carrying on the shoulder.
They gave us a little like a sugar cane bamboo-ish straw and then this reusable little cup.
It's like slightly sweet, very refreshing but then you know sugar cane leaves that
greeniness in your mouth.
I don't know how to explain it. It's like that slight veggie taste in your mouth.
It's really good.
If you see a queue, join it because it does not matter if you like the food or not.
It's probably going to taste good because the locals know what's best.
Foodies, we're here at the Weiling and Weiling also has a very long queue.
If you come to Binondo, just know that you have to be waiting in queues.
They do go really fast, don't get me wrong.
It's just that there's a waiting time for majority of things especially the more popular choices.
I saw online that the most popular one was like a chicken with rice and like a sauce
next to it.
It's either duck or chicken, I'm not too sure but that's what we're going to order.
Foodies, I couldn't wait.
The most popular dishes on the list without pork, that is, was roasted duck and also some rice.
The roasted duck comes with a gravy on top and it looks really delicious.
It's not crisp or anything, it's just really like plain simple roasted duck.
The duck though is really juicy, it's really nice.
Just a little bit cold.
The outside skin is really flavourful, a little bit fatty.
The gravy on it is very savoury, it's really nice.
I want to say that this duck is average.
It's still nice, don't get me wrong.
The flavours are there but it's not the best duck I've ever had.
If you have a craving for duck, which is a really weird craving by the way,
but if you have a craving for duck, it will satisfy your craving.
Nice rice, nice sauce.
The skin is really nice though.
I really like the texture and the flavour of the skin.
It has a slight fattiness but the duck itself is a little bit cold.
Hands down, the best duck I've ever had was on my Michelin recommended video.
That had the best duck in London by the way.
The auntie knows what she's doing.
I'm telling you, if you have an opportunity, go there.
And then next, I got this beef balls.
They gave me three and look at this.
I think this is going to be great.
That is so juicy, so flavourful.
It's so soft as well.
They've definitely finely minced it.
This actually would go really nice with the rice
but they have these as well.
I think this is vinegar.
I think they have soy sauce and some pepper.
You know what, we're going to mix them up.
It's called the Aisha's concoction.
You're either cringing on the screen or you're appreciating what I'm doing.
In it guys.
Try this.
The vinegar, it makes that nice sour taste come through.
I mean, that's really juicy and everything
but you just need a slight different flavour to come through
and that vinegar really helps.
Try it like that and you'll thank me later.
Foodies, another thing that we ordered was the vegetable dumplings.
It looks like an embryo.
Like you can see the inside, the vegetable stuffed in it.
Nobody's actually ordered this.
The only reason I ordered it is because I wanted a vegetarian option for a dumpling
and this is what they had.
They only had one dumpling variety that was veggie.
I mean, to be fair, it's very stuffed.
It's sticky.
I think it's steamed.
Oh, it's not even a dumpling at this point.
It's just mochi on the outside.
That's actually pretty good.
Oh yeah.
Guys, I have to say my disappointment to the duck.
Maybe this place is known for a different item
but when I asked the waiter, he said this is a very popular dish.
I was expecting a lot from the ducks.
I also waited for like 30 minutes.
But the duck was just cold.
This is good though.
It doesn't look pleasant.
It's one of those dishes that don't look pleasant,
don't look very appetizing but it's very nice.
Sweeties, this little boy is selling these Korean snacks.
Yes, umbrella.
Yes, please.
Oh, he's so cute.
I couldn't resist buying from him.
Thank you.
Sweeties, I'm here at Sincerity.
Sincerity.
And they're very popular.
They have a very popular item on the menu
and that is their fried chicken.
They even call it Sincerity fried chicken
and they have a Sincerity fried rice
and they have Sincerity rice.
Everything is just Sincerity.
Also, sweeties, I don't know if you realize
but I have a really cool t-shirt on.
I realized that even from Jollibee's
and obviously the other food chains they have here,
the most popular item they have on the list is the fried rice.
Fried rice?
The fried chicken.
I feel like Filipina people really like chicken.
Apparently, this place is very popular.
There's even some YouTubers, I think,
or celebrities playing on the screen.
We just got our fried chicken and we got the crab rice.
Also, just to be healthy, we got spinach
because everyone was ordering something healthy.
I thought I can't be left out
so I got the spinach with garlic.
The chicken is the star of the show.
Let's start with the chicken.
Let's see.
Oh, very crispy.
Nice.
Listen to that again.
That's crazy.
Foodies, that is amazing.
You know what?
We waited for quite a while.
We thought it would be really quick
because obviously they specialize in chicken, fried chicken,
but the crunch, the flavor,
the fact that that chicken is so juicy.
I had plenty of chicken in the Philippines.
This is by far the best one.
It has a better crunch than Jollibee's chicken.
That says a lot.
The Jollibee's one was very crunchy.
Flavor-wise, also the best.
This one is more simple than the Jollibee's one.
The batter is probably just a bit of salt and pepper.
And this one is the drumstick.
The drumstick is even more juicy.
It's so much more flavorful.
I mean, this one has a less crunch but more flavor.
Okay, let's also have some veggies
because, you know, we're trying to be healthy as well at the same time.
I see everyone going for the veg.
Is that good?
The spinach in the Philippines tastes different.
It tastes like morning glory.
Are you sure this is spinach?
It tastes really good though
because it's in that soy sauce
and it's got the garlic on it.
It tastes amazing.
Let's also taste the crab rice.
The egg is very salty
but the crab is very...
There's like a fishy taste to it.
I don't know.
I don't really like too much fishy taste.
I see everyone just getting the chicken and the rice
and then some veggies
and mixing it together.
I'm going to do the same.
Really good.
My little...
That's so balanced.
You've got your carbs, you've got your protein
and you've got your veg.
This combination...
I approve.
Perfection, sincerity.
Foodies, we're going to dine with the president today.
I'm kidding.
We're here in President Grand Palace
and this restaurant was also suggested by a street vendor
in the night market
and she said that you should come here
and try some of the popular items.
I feel like I want to try some noodles
because we came to Chinatown
and we haven't really tried any noodles yet
and I feel like that's such a shame.
So let's get some noodles.
Some green tea.
We like green tea.
Honestly, after all that fried food,
green tea is the best solution.
It gets rid of your fat and it makes you slim.
I wish.
Yes.
Here you go, cameraman.
You have some too.
This is the noodles that you get in Chinatown.
So you said that you have to get Chinatown noodles
in Chinatown.
This is the one you get.
Foodies, this is what happens here
when you don't understand what you're getting
or you don't confirm it with the waiter
and you don't even know what sizzling noodles means.
Sizzling noodles means crispy noodles,
so fried noodles
and on top you have beef and your vegetables.
What I was looking forward to was more like slurpy noodles.
It's okay.
I've never actually had this before.
It's a good opportunity at least to try it
and see if I like it.
I might actually enjoy this more than normal noodles.
Next we also got some fried squid
and they brought some vinegar and chili next to it as well
and we're going to taste the beef noodles.
Some of them cooked up,
some of them are still very much crunchy
but you can see like they maintain the crunch.
The funny part is cameraman bought the seafood version.
When I tried to explain to him like
can you at least bring the seafood version
with the normal noodles,
we got lost in translation.
He took the sizzling beef noodles back
and then bought it with a different presentation.
I think he thought we wanted a different presentation.
Honestly the presentation was not the problem.
The beef sauce on it is definitely stuck onto the noodles
so that's an advantage.
The noodles are like crisp.
They become like you know like instant noodles.
If you ever had raw instant noodles,
this is what it tastes like with sauce on it
but like some bits are becoming more chewy
because it's been in the gravy sauce for a while.
The beef looks very tender by the way.
Look at that, it's glistening.
I'm sure that the beef has been cooking for a while
because it's very tender, it's very juicy
and it's very delicious.
I really like this dish actually.
I thought I might not enjoy it because it's crispy.
It just looks like chips to be fair,
like very thin chips.
Definitely try that, it's really good.
A beautiful mistake as I call it.
We also have the squid.
He said that this is also very popular.
Inside the vinegar with the garlic and chili.
The outside batter is very crispy
and when you dip it into the vinegar and garlic sauce,
it tastes like, you know what it tastes like?
It tastes like salt and vinegar chips.
It's got no fishiness to it
so that fish flavor that you sometimes get
from like squid and seafood, that doesn't exist.
It's literally fried to perfection.
If you like salt and vinegar chips,
you're gonna love this.
It's literally like a little snack.
We just like constantly keep going.
So even though it's fried, it's very light.
Definitely worth a try.
Link.
Foodies, we're here at the final location,
Eng Beetin.
And this place is very popular for their baked goods.
The most popular thing is the hopia.
I'm gonna buy some
and also you can take souvenirs home as well.
So any baked goods, you can take them home.
So I'm gonna get some for my sister-in-law,
my brother and my dad.
Let's go in.
Foodies, this is the biggest mooncake I've ever seen.
Wow.
Can I take this home too?
You know what I've been missing?
This one.
The bing bong.
I really like this.
This looks really good.
I don't know what it is.
Ube something.
Mochipia something.
I don't know.
Let's just look around to see what other people are getting.
Oh, this lady's got a lot of this.
So maybe these are good.
We're gonna get one.
She had like 15 in the cart.
That's the one, hopia.
We're gonna get one of these.
They have different flavors, I think.
So that was the ube flavor.
This one is the salted duck egg yolk.
They look like mooncakes a little bit.
Oh, there's this one.
This one is the mung bean cake.
We're gonna take this too.
They have another flavor.
How many flavors do they have?
This one is winter melon.
That's going in there as well.
What's this one?
Choco.
Oh, I know choco, come on.
Chocolate filling.
So many varieties.
That's also coming with us.
Did I miss any flavors?
Wow.
That's so many.
They must have a big family.
It's also Christmas season is coming up.
So I think people are doing celebrational stuff as well.
And they're buying lots of gifts.
And there's like a festive season in the Philippines.
There's also things in the fridge.
And this one's the custard version.
This is the coconut custard version.
Also come with us.
Coconut custard sounds so interesting.
I've always had custard but coconut custard?
Foodies, come.
I'm gonna show you something.
I'm sure you're gonna love this.
Come, come, come, come, come.
And it's almost finished as well.
Brownie hopia.
Brownies.
Brownie?
That's crazy.
I'm getting this.
And I'm sure all you foodies are also reaching through the screen trying to grab this.
That goes in as well.
They have like a mango cake one on this side.
What else they have here?
What is this?
Coffee?
It's hot chocolate?
They're hot chocolate.
It's like a really dark bitter one.
And it says 100% cacao.
We're getting this as well.
So they have a sweetened version.
And then that yellow one is the unsweetened version.
Oh, dilemma.
Did they restock it?
And that's why there's more there?
And it was finished before?
Or is this one the most popular one?
So which one's more popular?
Is it the unsweetened one?
Or the sweetened?
Excuse me.
Hello.
Yeah.
Which one is more popular?
Sweetened?
Or unsweetened?
Actually, we don't have any idea.
No?
Yes, but I think it's better.
This one's better?
Yes.
I trust you.
I'm gonna get a sweetened.
Thank you.
Ah, this is what I'm more familiar with.
These are mooncakes.
I know these.
This is the white mango mooncake.
Black mango?
No, black mongo.
Mooncake?
Mongo?
This is limited edition.
Well, it better be.
But that's such a weird, poppier sisig.
So sisig, we had it before.
We had it in Manam.
And we had it in another street food location.
And it's meant to be like pig's face.
We didn't have the pig's face.
We had the fish sisig.
Because we can't have pork.
Yeah, we're not having that.
Just for obvious reasons.
I would have tried it.
But it's got pig in it.
Ah, so sad.
I can't try it.
Ube queso with cheese.
Who doesn't like cheese?
I'm gonna get this one.
Foodies, we came upstairs.
And there's a coffee shop.
Or maybe a restaurant.
Foodies, we wanted to end on a sweet note.
So we bought...
I mean, we bought lots of flavors.
But I wanted to try the hopia ube.
This is like the most popular version.
This and the classic one.
We like chaos, foodies.
We're in the chaotic area.
They're like little mini treats.
Oh my god, it tastes so good.
I thought it would be like a mooncake.
But it's not a mooncake.
The outside is like a really thin pastry on the outside.
And inside is ube paste.
Slightly sweet.
Not too sweet.
But like in the middle somewhere.
Really good though.
Foodies, we have come to the end of today, unfortunately.
We went to the oldest Chinatown in the world.
Which was here in Benondo.
In Manila, Philippines.
And we had a lovely experience with all the food.
That was amazing and delicious.
I'll put all the places in the description below.
So if you like this video, like and subscribe.
And I'll see you on the next one.
Bye.
