Your bedroom turned out beautifully. It’s very serene, calming and cozy.
Hey friend, welcome back. So glad that you're here today.
We are going to spend some time here in my bedroom
decorating and just kind of putting the room together
for what feels like the first time. If you're new here
or you haven't been around, we moved into our home that we built
in July of 2024 and since moving in, like the night we
moved in, we kind of just threw our furniture in this space.
Didn't really think much of it and we've sort of been living that way with an
undecorated room for two years, which is fine. And if
you've ever built a house, you know that design and decision fatigue is real.
Sometimes you just need a break and you're just over it.
And that was definitely me when we moved in.
And so, however, with a baby on the way and being well into my third
trimester, nesting has sort of entered the chat
and is in full force. And so I'm like, you know what, I think
it's time before baby comes to give this room a little bit of a
makeover. And so it started with knowing that we
wanted to swap out our old queen bed frame for a king. That was priority
one. We wanted to upgrade to that. And then it just kind of snowballed into,
well, that I'd like to buy new nightstands and new furniture.
Then you have to buy new bedding. And before you know it, you have a brand new
bedroom. And so I've been doing some shopping
here and there the last couple of months. And today I'm
ready to sort of put everything together and see
it come to life. So I'm very excited. So if you're
excited to refresh my bedroom space with me
today, make sure you keep on watching. You know, isn't it funny how sometimes we
don't see how much something is really impacting our mental
health until we take the plunge and make the
change. We had our old furniture in here. You
know, we didn't really give this space time or energy. It just
kind of felt ugh. And how often is that us on the
inside? I think change is so good.
Change can provide growth. Change can provide new perspectives and new
mindset shifts. And this is something that I have
continually been learning through therapy and
working with my therapist through BetterHelp, which I would like to thank
BetterHelp for sponsoring today's video. There have been a lot of things in my
life over the last year or two that I've just had to let go of. And
not just my old bed frame, but personal things
in my life, whether they were situations or just things going on. And it's okay to
let go. It's okay to set boundaries and it's even okay to prioritize yourself
and your mental health in order to be the best version of
yourself for the people around you that you love, that you want to pour into.
And that's something I've really had to learn through therapy and I'm just so
grateful to my therapist. And with BetterHelp,
getting started is such a simple process. You just
fill out a questionnaire. It takes just a couple of moments. You can do
it on the app or online and you are matched with a licensed therapist
in as little as just a couple of days in most cases.
I'm a busy mom. I'm always on the go. I have a lot going on.
And so what I love most about BetterHelp is that you can schedule
at a time that's convenient for you and you can do your therapy
over the phone or video chat or even through text threads in some cases
from the comfort of your own home. It just does not get easier than that.
And you can change therapists at any time. If it's just not the right fit,
you're still looking for the right person,
that's totally okay. You can change at any time at no additional cost to you.
So if you are thinking about starting therapy, I definitely recommend BetterHelp.
And if you go to my link down in the description below,
it's betterhelp.com forward slash Amy Fritz,
you'll get 10% off of your first month's therapy.
And thanks again BetterHelp for sponsoring today's video.
Okay, I'm ready to decorate. Let's start with the bed space.
I don't think I talked about this yet. So we knew we wanted to upgrade to a king bed.
That was a priority to us, especially with the baby coming,
knowing baby's going to be in our room for a while.
She has a little boss in it. I'll show that.
But we just want more space, inevitably.
So I wanted to find something that was more budget friendly,
but still felt really luxurious and solid.
So for me personally, I just feel like an upholstered bed frame,
you get a lot of bang for your buck. It's a solid wood base,
but because it's an upholstered headboard, it just tends to be more affordable.
And I just like the mix of pattern texture. It's not so heavy,
especially since I went with black oak nightstands and furniture.
So it's a nice light airiness to the space and vibe and you can really do a lot with it.
So I actually found this bed frame after scouring the internet.
I mainly looked on Instagram, but I think it also had a viral moment on TikTok.
But looked on Instagram for upholstered headboards.
And this is called the Anna from Wayfair. It's pretty popular, I think.
And I know why. It is awesome. It is just solid.
I love the high back, wing back style headboard.
And there were quite a few color selections. I don't remember the exact color name.
I think it's ivory that I went with. It's more of a creamy white,
but I will link it down below as well as everything else today.
But that's what we're starting with. We have our king bed between two windows.
We also have nightstands and a chest of drawers that are matching from Walmart of all places.
These pieces are solid. Like I was so impressed when they came in the mail.
I was expecting kind of chintzy, particle board-esque vibes.
No, that is not the case at all with these. They are very heavy duty.
They have plugs in the back of them, which is awesome.
So I have like all my charging stuff set up and they're going to provide a ton of storage.
So let's start here. I have a piece, a new art piece.
I want to put up above the headboard and then we'll make the bed.
I am super out of breath today. So I apologize.
They sound breathy, but let's start with the art above the headboard.
I want to get that hung up that way if I mess up the bed, no big deal.
But I looked at a lot of different options. I thought I wanted to do like a botanical
kind of layout, something of that sort. I knew I wanted something natural, organic,
but I kind of struggled to find that. And then I knew I was going to have to buy frames.
And so anyway, I ended up walking into Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago and art was 50% off,
or I'm sorry, 40% off. And I found this piece, it's a landscape.
And I thought it was really pretty, especially for the price. I paid $21 for it. Such a good deal
for the size, I think. And I just like that it's peaceful, it's simple, it's natural.
And I actually think the dark colors will really contrast against my wall and headboard. So we're
going to start with this and see how it looks. Okay, I actually really like that. And I think
the size is nice and proportionate. I could go bigger, but I don't think it's too small.
And before we get to the rest of the decor, I figured I'd just share
a little before shot. Everything is so green outside right now. It's so pretty.
But here's the bed and what it's looking like. A better shot anyway than what I showed you before.
And then the nightstands. Like I said, they are from Walmart. I will link them.
I need to wipe them down. They are going to show dust for sure. But I just wanted something
different. I wanted more contrast. I feel like I never do black. I always do white tones,
which that would be really pretty too. But I just felt like changing it up. And then
this rug actually, funny enough, I bought this rug for our living room when we first moved in the
house and then ended up not loving it. And it's been living in my basement for two years.
And I decided to just bring it up here. And is it my first choice? I don't know,
but I don't dislike it. It has some nice neutral colors in it. And I like the pattern.
I think it works for now for sure. And that way I didn't have to spend any money
on a new rug. But it is from Amazon and it's actually a really nice quality.
If you like a grayish, taupe-ish vibe, you need something neutral. It's a great rug.
But anyway, I already have that. So that's not new. Add that to kind of the budget column
of the project. And then you can see baby girl's bassinet.
Also, we ended up going with a chest of drawers on this wall space just to save some room,
but it's really nice to have the storage. And I think it looks nice in this space.
So I think once we get all the decor in here and get everything kind of situated,
it will really lighten up the room and kind of bring it all together.
Okay. Let's start by making the bed. I wanted to mention a couple of things really quick.
First step, this base layer is this beautiful quilt from the Casa Luna line from Target.
It's a linen quilt, like a heavy linen. It is so, so nice for spring and summertime. It makes
a great base layer. I also have some threshold performance sheets. They're my favorite. I've
used them for years and years and years. I've used some other things too, but I always come
back to those. If anything, they're a great backup sheet. They're really affordable if you need a
second set of sheets or something. I just went with a off white. I think the color is called
sour cream. I will link all the bedding down below. I'm just kind of sharing my process here,
but I really love to mix creams and whites when it comes to bedding. I think it gives a very
lived-in linen summery vibe. I mean, that's even the context we have in our bedroom space. We have
cream walls and white trim. But anyway, I love this quilt, love the sheet. I do have a beige
king-size muslin blanket under the quilt, which is just so soft and lightweight. I think that was a
home goods find a long time ago, so I don't have a link for that, but a muslin blanket is really,
really nice under a nice linen quilt. But now let's go ahead and add the rest of the layers.
Okay, I want to show this kind of up close before I put it on the bed,
but it is a king-size linen duvet from Hearth & Hand at Target. So all my bedding pretty much
is from Target today. It's in this beautiful natural kind of flax color. I don't know what
the color is called. I think it's just called natural, but it's a true linen. It is so nice,
especially with this nice big down comforter inside. And what I like to do is sort of fold it
at the end of the bed just to create more texture and dimension. And then if I get cold,
because I tend to be a cold sleeper, I can pull it up and use it, but Caleb then doesn't have to.
I always love a good button detailing at the end too. I think that's such a nice touch.
I can't tell how well you can see this, but I also got these oversized throw pillows
from Target. I think they're Threshold brand. They have a green side and a cream side with
kind of this green floral blocking. And this is just what I'm going to use on the bed.
So I looked high and low for just the right lamps for our bedroom space. I knew I didn't want
something boring with just a plain white shade because we already had very neutral bedding. I
just, I wanted something with texture, pattern, something. And then I found these lamps actually
at Target, which is so funny. It would have been the last place I had would have looked, but they
happened to be like on the end cap the day I bought some of the bedding and I saw them and I
just knew they were the right fit. So I'm just going to put one flanking on each side of the
nightstand, but we're going to start with this side. So I've had an easel style mirror in this
corner for probably six months, but once I got these new nightstands, which I'm loving,
seeing decorated, um, once I got those, it was just too clunky over here and I decided to add
some life and color. I wanted to get an artificial tree. So I found a seven foot artificial olive
tree, I think on Amazon, maybe walmart.com. I'll link it down below. Um, but I'm excited to haul
it in here and see it come together. See if it works in the space. I think it's going to be
really pretty. The last area I want to decorate is this chest of drawers and I want to add some
height, even though it's a tall piece with a leaning mirror. Um, this mirror I had in our
living room for a while, but I actually just swapped it out for another mirror so I can use
this mirror in here and it's just this beaded style mirror. I got it from Kirkland's, I think
quite a while ago. I will link it if it's still available. If not, I'll look for something similar.
And then I have this vase. I love this. It looks like wood. It's actually like concrete.
Um, I found this at a local garden center a couple years ago. It's just a really unique
stone piece. I think I'm going to put it up here. And then because we have such a tall
mirror situation, I want to find some really tall stems to reflect off the mirror and to
continue on with that height. Um, I have a couple options. Let's go check.
Option one is just this really pretty greenery, just kind of sticking to that neutral
green palette. Nothing too vibrant. You kind of want to, or at least I like to match
the tones of your plants. Like you can do different plants in a space, but you want
the tones to be similar. And so I'm kind of going off of the olive tree. So this is kind of similar.
It looks like against the mirror. Do you like that? We do like that. I like that a lot actually,
but I have one more option I want to try. I also have these stems. They're from Hobby Lobby from
quite a long time ago, but I think they still have them. And I like that they add a floral element,
but they still have that same kind of shade of dark green. So I don't know,
we're going to play with this. I think these are taller too, which will be nice.
And then I've got this cute little cloche of matchsticks.
I just use this for decorative purposes, but they are real matches.
And then I think I'm just going to use these really simple white pillar
candles. I've got some stands just for a really clean look.
Okay, friends, here's a final look. I love it. It is clean, cozy,
minimal, but still feels put together to some extent. It's a little more modern than I typically
lean, but I think it turned out really beautiful. I'm loving all the natural textures and elements.
So funny enough, I bought really cute picture frames for my nightstands. As you can see,
I just need to print off some pictures of Caleb and I, probably in black and white
is what I'm envisioning for those frames. But other than that, it's pretty much done.
The bassinet is all ready to go. I'm going to use the drawers of the nightstand to create kind of
like a little mini storage area for babies. So like diapers, diapering stuff, some extra
jammies, onesies, that kind of a thing, nursing supplies. So I will probably do that here pretty
soon now that the bedroom is done. But I'm loving it. I love the symmetry of the lamps.
And one more thing I thought I'd just mention, I do have a bunch of samples for
Roman shades, or I might go with more of a bamboo shade. I'm not sure yet.
I kind of just wanted to finish up the bedroom space before making a decision, but window
treatments are also in the works. So that will be a huge change to this space as well. I love
the big open windows. I love showcasing all the trim work. I love all the natural light.
I'm an early riser. It does not really bother me one bit. But I do think we eventually will
definitely get something. So I just wanted to throw that out there. I get questions about that
all the time. We live out in the country, our bedroom's on the back of the house. It really
doesn't bug me one bit as far as privacy goes. But I know that's a thing. So anyway, I thought I
would just share that. Thank you so much for watching today. I hope you enjoyed coming along
with me. I know it was kind of a short, simple video. But I think all our changes today, we
really did make a big impact. This space feels so much more finished and just cozy and ready
to enjoy. And I hope you enjoyed nesting with me today. If you did like today's video, do me a
favor and give it a big thumbs up, maybe share it with a friend for some ideas and inspiration.
And I will see you really soon in my next video. Bye friends.
