So this is where we're at. Reality has officially struck
and we are in deep at that renovation house.
Really deep and I'm a little obsessed with the entire thing.
We're doing a lot. We're trying to push it to the end. We're at the end. We've got
to push, push, push. It's a little bit harder
to get across the finish line and we're right there. The thing is is that
we're at that point now where there's very few big tasks that are left. So it's
kind of a lot of little things that are all over the place.
And that means that we need to be there to point and shoot.
So we're starting the punch list process. This can either turn out
good or it can turn out bad. I'm hoping that we look at this and it's like okay
we've got this. It's only a couple things on there but it
could turn out that we look at it and it's like we're not quite as close to
the end as we thought we were. Stain and hang barn doors. Final plumbing.
Lights and fans both need to be installed. All devices. That's our punch.
Let's get everything done. I'm sure we got a lot more. We are headed
in the right direction. I think the final missing piece of the puzzle has
been well the vanities one. Those we still don't have.
But the countertops we successfully went. We searched and we found them. We found
them and they're amazing. Yes and those those also are supposed to
be here in about two weeks. So do you want to talk about the touch
of a downside to our week? Yes so the fascia and everything got
completed. The sides of the house going up the rake and everything
looks great. The backside looks great. I just think
where the sun hits the house in the front with the metal fascia
it's very wavy. It's waves the entire way across.
The entire way across it's all waves and dents everywhere. The top
portion is going to get covered up by a six inch gutter. So yeah you're not
going to see that. So that's no big deal. It's not not an issue.
The lower part lower roof the small two foot roof
above the door on the deck that gets no gutters. It's a small little roof.
So seeing that it looks it looks it doesn't look good. So what we need to do
is take this fascia off. Put a one by up there.
Span it the entire way down. The one by stick down roughly three quarters an
inch past this. And then what we have to do is because
these planks aren't cut perfectly straight
because the original plan was to have this
fascia overlap underneath it to cover it all up.
Since that fascia is now going to come off we need to get a small strip of wood
that goes on the inside and covers all those cuts up.
And we're going to stain everything the same color as this. So it's going to be
brown. It's just we can't leave it the way it
is. Today's video is sponsored by Kamikoto
knives. And I don't know if you guys know this but we were actually
gifted some Kamikoto knives a little over a year ago.
And ever since then they've been an absolute staple in our kitchen. Kamikoto
builds on the legacy of over 800 years of Japanese technology and expertise in
creating high quality kitchen knives made with Japanese steel using
traditional techniques. Each knife comes in a heavy duty ash wood box to ensure
safe storage. There's a knife for every need you may
have in the kitchen and the blades have an unbelievably sharp
beveled edge crafted by expert bladesmiths using the highest quality
Japanese steel. The quality and craftsmanship behind these Kamikoto
knives is something that I really appreciate when working in the kitchen.
Each knife is individually inspected and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Fun fact these knives are used by Michelin star chefs
all over the world and in this kitchen. Josh might not think that I'm a five star
chef but you know I try. Kamikoto is running a
massive Black Friday sale right now and offering our viewers an extra $50
off of their purchase with our code WONDERFULOFFGRID in addition to the
offers that they're already running. Go to kamikoto.com slash wildwonderful to
get your gifts now. Thank you Kamikoto for sponsoring today's
video. Now let's get back to the build. The mortar for the pre-slip shower pan
has completely cured which means we're ready for the next
step which is installing the PVC liner. I know you want to get this done but I
can't get it done when you're sitting on the curtain.
I'm waiting for my donuts to arrive and then I'll get to work.
Oh my goodness. Someone's been nibbling on the donuts. Thank you.
Is that mine? Yeah. I didn't know those Dunkin' Donuts were so good when they're fresh.
Is it a Dunkin' Donuts commercial? He's not sponsored just impressed.
Just joking. We got work to do. Are we eating our feelings right now?
I feel like we're eating our feelings.
With the PVC liner installed we're ready to put up the Duroc. Then the final
coat of mud goes down on the shower pan and then we can start waterproofing
everything. We cut the PVC liner around the drain.
We caulked it. We bolt everything down. So the next step when we do this is we're
going to put stone all around here or gravel around there
because you guys can see down there there's weep holes all the way
around it so if any water does get underneath there
and it hits the PVC liner and it slopes it's going to slope down towards the
drain. There's weep holes there so it'll go in there. That's the reason why we
have stone there is we put the next topping slab on top.
We're not covering the weep holes off. So before we do any of that stuff though
we're going to hit a Duroc, get that done, and then we'll start the
Let's go put it out the window.
It fell away. I see that.
My fiberglass mesh tape. We're going to mix the mud up. We're going to seal all
of our joints around the entire shower. So while Josh works on the final layer
of mortar in this upstairs bathroom Ellie and I are going to head downstairs
and take care of a little bit of waterproofing.
This has been a week of rapid progress most of which has been in the right
direction. The wood planking is in the process of
being installed on the vaulted ceilings throughout the home.
It's bringing the warmth and rustic feel to the home that we wanted.
New stair treads have been installed leading from the first floor to the
second and from the second into the loft. A
much needed update as the existing stairs were worn and needed to be
replaced. So the stairs weren't so bad to be torn
down or torn out. The issue is that we had those gaps and
cracks on everything and that's trying to go through and caulk everything
and trying to I guess rig it to make it look good
but look awful. So we went ahead and bought these new
stair treads right here that sit on top and also
we've got these stair risers to go between. It covers all the gaps and
cracks up and now it looks like a brand new set
of stairs. All of the wood floors are down in both of the kitchen and also this
bedroom that's downstairs and on top of that this room that we had
put this design on the wall for like an accent wall
it's completely painted and just turned out I think better than we
imagined it would. She's stoked. She hadn't she hadn't
noticed the wood floors yet. She just saw the wood floors and she
just she thinks they look amazing and this back wall in here. Looks good
right? Yeah. Yeah it's a hundred percent win.
It is. So we're gonna sand all these floors down and then everything is gonna
be nice and light like this. It's gonna all match. It's so pretty.
It's exciting right? Yeah. We're almost at the end girl.
And there's a fun part decorating. Yeah. I know we showed you guys I think the
downstairs bathroom but we also finally picked out the tile for the
upstairs bathroom. This is what's going to end up going on the walls.
It was a process for us to find this to say the least.
Josh was not thrilled with how much time I took but
it's a win. I think we love it. So over the next few days both of the bathrooms
are going to be completed and light fixtures are ready to start
being installed. We are right there at the very end of
this. We're going to give you a hundred percent pure credit this entire room.
Give us a hand. All right. This kind of paint is going to go on
like green and dry blue. Oh look at that. Oh my gosh.
We use the same liquid rubber formula in our shower at home.
It's a critical step in waterproofing before we start the tile. Get it girl.
Get it girl. Is this a professional? Yes. I don't know about that. That's beautiful.
So I'm ready to start sloping the shower floor itself.
We're going to put the motor in there. I'm going to start working it all around
with the trowel and get it as nice as I can. You know I'm
an electrician. Not a tile guy. But you know I'm moonlight
as one here at this house. So I'm going to put that in there and I'm
going to slope it from the wall to the drain and all the way around so
hopefully when the person is here to take a shower they don't feel my work.
Because if they do, I failed. I failed all of you guys.
I'm doing my best. So I'm here for quality control.
Quality control checkmate. I knew you would. It looks good.
It does. I'm going to quality control. You got some cracks down here. Hold on.
I'm not there yet. I'm not there yet. You got to paint that like really thick.
That's because you don't have quality control in the shower pan.
A little too much water and it shrank. You know what I mean?
It must have gotten cold. I don't know anything about that.
Seriously though, you did such a good job.
Perfection. Good. I'm glad. You're hired. I did it for you. Okay.
I did it for you, you know. Like every story in life,
ours has been one that has evolved with time. It started out as one who became
two and then five who grew alongside each
other over the years. We fought to carve out our own place in
this world, one that was drenched in meaning and soul that would last us
through the years. And had it not been for the ability to
grow alongside each other, I don't know that we would be where we
are today. In fact, I know that we wouldn't be. But it's the memories through the
tough times and those through the sweet ones
that have led us to where we are. The joy in working together towards a
common goal for our family and the joy in letting go so that we can
be carefree and experience the things that we wouldn't be able to
had we not worked hard consistently. Today we are able to reap the rewards of
relentlessly pushing through the hard to relish in the fun. It was sweet in
the beginning, hard in the middle, and uncomfortably
comfortable now as we navigate the new chapter ahead of us
that's going to set the tone for our future. One of balancing
work and play and success and fun. You guys know what we're wearing? See this?
You know what we're doing. Let's go. Ellie are you the good luck charm
tonight? Yeah! We've got drinks, snacks,
and it's game time. Let's go. Winner winner chicken dinner. Good night guys.
