This is a collection of the best optical illusions in the Internet. I hand picked 13 of my favorite illusions for this video.
Here's a collection of some of the greatest optical illusions
that I could find on the internet.
And I broke it into four categories.
Moving illusions, color optical illusions,
hidden or hard to see images,
and probably my favorite, perspective illusions.
So let's kick it off strong with this one.
Now you might've seen the still version of this one
where there's two pictures
and one's got the small circles on the outside
and one has the large ones.
But when you look at it actually moving,
it is impossible to tell,
but that middle circle is not changing size.
Now your eyes are gonna tell you that it is,
and I promise you, I will not lie to you in this video,
that middle dot is not changing size.
And I'll try to show it by putting this little tube.
So as you see, as it moves,
it's about the same size or width as the tube.
And that kind of shows,
but doesn't fully break the illusion.
And of course the outside circles are changing size,
which adds to the illusion.
This one's so strong, it's nearly impossible to see,
but I promise you that middle circle is not changing size.
The second one is not really my favorite,
but people really seem to like it.
So you see that object moving across the screen,
looks like a kind of a hand or something.
If you pause this video at any time,
you will not be able to see that hand anymore.
Now to me, this one's pretty obvious, right?
It's kind of just camouflaging into the background,
but if you pause the video at any time,
you will not be able to see it.
You might remember for like a second where it was,
but then a couple of seconds later,
you won't be able to see it anymore.
And if you're not sure if it's really working,
try looking away and pausing,
and then coming back and seeing if you can still see it.
And I guarantee you won't be able to find it.
What I like about this next one
is I've seen it on a small scale before,
but when you look at it on a huge scale like this,
like the house size, it's pretty incredible.
So it looks like that house is kind of following the camera
as it moves past.
What's actually happening is
it's a concave cutout of a house,
but your mind tells you that houses are not concave, right?
They're convex facing out toward you.
So your mind fills in the blanks.
But as you can see, as the camera gets past the house,
the shape is very clearly not what it looked like it was.
And the final one from the moving category
is gonna cause debate, I know it,
because it's nearly impossible to see for some people.
And for some reason, other people see it
and they just get it instantly.
But the stripes on both of those poles
are moving in the exact same direction at the same speed.
Now, of course, the little spiky things
are moving in different directions,
and that's what's causing the illusion
and makes it really hard to see.
But if you just run your finger along the video
at the same speed as the stripes,
you'll see they're always in the same position.
Or you could pause the video at any time
and you'll see again that the stripes
are in the exact same position.
It took me a really long time to see it.
As soon as I got it, I lost it
and it's kind of hard to see again.
So don't feel bad if you're having trouble with this one.
Let's move to category two, color illusions.
Now, everyone in this category is mind blown,
but we'll start with this one.
The right halves of these dresses are the exact same color.
Now, of course, the background and the left halves
of the dresses are different,
and that's what's causing this illusion.
But as you can see,
if I just cut out a little piece of one of them
and then move it over to the other one,
and I promise I'm not changing the colors as it crosses,
you can see they are the exact same color.
And you can do it yourself if you just take a screenshot
and you overlay them, you'll see they are the exact same.
Another example that's even harder to tell
is this one with these two faces.
The skin on the face of each of these pictures
are exactly the same.
Of course, everything else is different,
including the eyebrows and all those other things,
but the skin on the faces are exactly the same.
And again, I'll take a small crop from one of them,
I'll move it over to the other so you can see
they are exactly the same.
This is probably one of the strongest color illusions
I've ever seen.
This next one is a Coca-Cola can, which you know is red,
and you're probably sure you're seeing red in this picture.
However, if I zoom in all the way,
you'll notice that it's actually just white and black
with a little bit of blue.
There is absolutely no red in this picture.
When you zoom out and look at it from far away,
the colors blend and your mind tells you
that there's red in this picture.
And the final one for this category is this picture
where you see a bunch of different balls
that'll look like they're different colors,
but the balls themselves are actually
exactly the same color.
Now, the lines going across them are different colors,
which is causing the illusion,
but again, if you take a small crop of just any one of them
and you slide it over onto another one,
you'll see they are the exact same color.
I don't know why our minds play tricks on us,
but I do love illusions like this.
The next category is hidden images.
This first one was very popular on the internet.
So if you've seen this one before,
you immediately see what you're looking for.
But if you've not seen this before,
I'm gonna tell you, there's a cigar in this picture.
And it's not like tiny or hidden in a corner or something.
It is, bam, right in the middle, smack in your face.
When I show you where it is,
you're not gonna believe that you didn't see it before
and you will never be able to look at this picture
without seeing the cigar.
So if you wanna pause now and look for it, go right ahead.
I'm gonna show you where it is in three, two, one.
Kind of crazy, right?
Now this one is another one
that some people have a hard time seeing
and other people see it right away.
You're probably seeing a bunch of lines
and rectangle shapes or square shapes on this page,
but everything looks like straight lines.
However, there are a ton of perfect circles on this page.
If you wanna pause to see them, go right ahead
because I'm about to reveal where they are.
But if I just draw circles on top of them,
now it's easy to see this is where they are.
But again, when I take the circles away,
it's kind of hard to find them again.
And this last one for hidden images is pretty crazy
because the image isn't actually hidden.
It's just you're not seeing what you think you're seeing.
Now at first glance, you think you see some horses
walking across maybe a desert
and you're looking at them from the side view.
But when I tell you what you're actually seeing,
you're not gonna believe me,
but then when I zoom in, hopefully you will.
This is actually a top view
and you're seeing zebras that are walking.
But because the light source is coming from the side,
their shadows are on the ground
and the shadows of what you're seeing
is what you think horses are.
But actually when I zoom in, you will see,
you're just looking at the backs of the zebras
with their shadows on the ground.
And that brings us to our final category,
perspective illusions.
We'll start off with an easy one.
You've probably seen some similar to this
where those lines look kind of crooked
or going all across the page,
but they're actually perfectly horizontal.
And if I add lines to the page, it's easy to see that.
But for some reason, your mind is telling you
they're not straight even though they are.
This next one looks like these two guys are really huge
or everybody else in the picture is really small.
And it'll take a minute to really understand
what's going on here until you realize
that those two bigger guys
are just really close to the camera
and they're standing on the edge of like a lift.
One of those machines to pick up rocks and stuff,
they're standing on the edge of one of those
and everybody else is much farther away.
And this final picture shows three trucks
parked on the street.
And it's very clear that the front one is the smallest.
Then you have a middle sized one
and the largest one in the back.
What if I told you that these trucks
are exactly the same size?
Now your mind is telling you the different sizes
because the road itself is drawn in perspective,
but these trucks were just pasted onto the road
at the exact same size.
So your mind is telling you
that the one that's closer to you should be larger,
but because it's not, it looks like it's smaller.
But if I take a cutout of any one of these trucks
and move it over the other ones,
you'll see they are the exact same size.
It's just your mind filling in the blanks
because it sees the perspective of the street.
