Although hair clippers have become ubiquitous in all barbershops and salons the world over, there is still a romantic edge to traditional scissor cuts. We would never seek to do away with their electricity powered cousins, but we think shears deserve their day in the sun this summer. Here are seven of our favorite tasteful trims. Just as how you would need different tools for different occasions, you also need different pairs of professional hairdressing scissors depending on the type of haircut. Not all hairdressing tools are the same. They are designed with different materials and features to help you achieve the desired hairstyle with professional results every single time. Let’s check out the different types of scissors that we offer for popular haircutting techniques!
THINNING AND TEXTURISING
As a hairdresser, you will probably encounter a lot of clients with thick and coarse hair that request to thin and texturise their hair. Using your normal tool to cut voluminous hair is a no-go. You’ll need professional hairdressing thinners that are specifically designed for texturising.
Thinner scissors usually have teeth or notches on one side, while the other side is a smooth blade. Using thinners ensure that there is less damage for the hair compared to using razors to thin out the hair. We offer a wide range of thinning and texturizing scissors which are designed to give you a clean and precise haircut every time thanks to the premium grade steel.
Do you go to school up there?
No, so I just work at, I'm a butcher at Whole Foods down there in Santa Fe.
My dad got in a bad accident and he lives in Santa Fe, so I've been kind of taking care of him.
But now that he's getting a little better, I'm helping him with, he does like finish woodwork,
so I've been helping him with like the heavy stuff on projects like that.
But I just took a sales job for a pest control company and we're moving out to Chicago at the end of April for four months.
Oh wow, and are you going out there?
Yeah, I'm going out there, but the thing is the trainings and stuff are here.
I'm like, we have meetings and stuff here on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I'm just back and forth.
Plus the girls up here are a little better than the ones on Thursdays.
Oh, so they're going to fly you from over there to here?
Yeah, and they'll put us up in a, I think, so they kind of, they rent out like an apartment complex.
And there's a team of guys, and then it's about three to four guys per apartment.
Do you want one of these?
Oh yeah, man, thank you so much, I appreciate that.
And yeah, we're going door-to-door actually.
That's sick, hell yeah.
But it's all commission-based, which is big for me because, you know,
I'm kind of tired of working my ass off just to get paid the same amount as some of these other people.
Yeah, I'm really excited, and it's only four months, so you know,
I might end up going out there and absolutely not for the rest of my life, really.
Wait, and where is this again?
It's in the suburbs of Chicago.
Oh yeah?
Yeah, so just, you know, 15, 20 minutes outside of that.
It's for a company called EcoShield Pest Control.
It's like Terminix or Orkin, those kind of big guys.
But yeah, I never thought I'd be doing this, but I went to high school with this kid,
and I saw him at the bar, I don't know, maybe like three or four months ago,
and he was telling me about what he was doing, and I was like,
yeah, man, I don't know, you know, door-to-door pest control, that sounds a little ridiculous.
I don't know if I was meant for that.
And then he showed me how much he was bringing home in those four months,
and I was like, all right, send me the **** up.
And what was he bringing home the last four months?
Last year he made $86,000.
Oh wow, Jesus.
Yeah.
Now it's like, hell yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
Plus another thing, it's just helped me with my conversation skills, talking to girls,
and we have a preseason sales trip, and we're going to go to Arizona in February.
That's why I was like, I kind of need a haircut, need to clean it up a little bit.
Who knows, he said some of the guys do mullets, so I don't know if you remember,
but you gave me a mullet, I think it was almost a year ago, I think it was in May or something,
but that was one of my favorite haircuts I've ever had.
Yeah, I do remember that.
That was ******* awesome.
Yeah, because we texturized the back and everything.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I might go for one before you go out there, I don't know.
And you know what, by that time this will grow into whatever we can,
it'll be just perfect to come in and get that.
Oh yeah, yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.
Because in the back, watch, it'll still be somewhat long, but I'll have it just trimmed to where it should be.
Yeah, that's exactly what I want.
Yeah, I do like kind of like the messy, you know, I wear my hair kind of how I was wearing it
when I walked in, but it's just getting a little...
Starting to look like a helmet, yeah.
And what about around your ears?
Do you like texture laying on top of your ears, or do you like it kind of rounded around
and you push with scissors and everything?
Yeah, I think I'd rather have it a little round, because I usually just push it back,
because I don't like it when it falls over my ears.
Or if it, you know, but when it's at that medium length, it'll just curl up on the side,
so it won't be over the top of my ears.
Yeah.
So yeah, you can definitely...
Can I set this down a little?
Yeah, why don't you?
Okay.
Did you say you have a family in Santa Fe?
Yeah, I have a cousin out there and everything.
Okay.
There's this guy that Wynton got some tattoos from, but he just reminds me so much of you,
like even the way you guys talk and stuff, and I was wondering if you...
Is he a tattoo artist?
No.
Oh, okay.
And this dude does tattoos out there?
Yeah, he does tattoos in Santa Fe.
He came into Whole Foods, and we started talking, and he was like, yeah, I'm an artist.
And I was like, man, I've been looking to get some pieces.
He was like, I'm going to check you out.
And I looked him up, and I was like, I like what he did.
That's the nice thing about working at Whole Foods, is that you do make connections and stuff with people.
Or just working anywhere, really.
I'm sure you've met people that you still keep in contact with all the time.
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
I met one guy, and I just started telling him about me moving to Chicago.
He's like, well, I have a landscaping construction company, and we're always looking for people on the sales team.
So when you get back, pick me up.
He's ---- like that sick to me.
Yeah.
I got you.
Yeah, I know.
And you were pretty booked up.
I actually booked an appointment last week, but that snowstorm.
Oh, yeah.
It fucked everybody.
Yeah.
Yeah, it did.
I didn't even get to work on Thursday, because it was like...
Yeah, it was just too hard for people, I'm sure, to get out here.
Yeah, even in the Jeep, I did.
It was like, damn.
Oh, yeah.
I haven't seen a storm like that in Albuquerque since I think I was nine years old or something.
I couldn't believe it.
The roads were just like an ice rink.
I'm sure everybody was excited for the mountain.
Wait, so how far are you from that area?
I'd say it probably takes like 45 minutes, an hour to get from my place to the top of the mountain.
Well, it's not that at all.
No, it's really not.
We live somewhat close to downtown, so it's a little...
It's not like I'm on the outskirts of town and just hop on the freeway.
But it's really...
I mean, I know a lot of people have a problem with driving even more than 15 minutes,
but I'm like, if I haul ass, I can get here in 45.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Yeah, but there was a section where it was one lane only.
And I hate being late.
I'm big, like, if you're not 15 minutes early, you're late.
Yeah, coming from there though, it's like you say, you can never tell.
It's like traffic, accident, all kinds of...
Oh, exactly.
Yeah, because I always give myself like an hour and 10 minutes or so.
And usually it only takes me, you know, 45, 50 minutes to get up here.
Hey guys, these are for reverse texture.
This is how I get the hair to layer.
These are nano-powdered metal.
These are the dust shears.
They're handmade.
They're made by Mizutani, the best shear company in the world.
This is the only way I get the haircuts.
Again, like this.
And for the reverse texture on the top, like you must use it.
These are fire.
They grip the hair.
They get that cut on top.
And this is going to allow me to, you know, kind of shape it a little more
and like give it that messy look, right?
Absolutely.
And it will drop like just a layer into the sides too.
Because watch, I'll add that now.
Okay, yeah, that's what I like.
I got the...
And that way it all flows together, even though it's a little bit shorter,
it still flows.
The good thing about this is I'll still shave under your neck with a straight blade.
Okay.
So then you get all that cleanliness under the hair.
Yeah, so guys, I cut the side of the hair.
I cut the top of the hair.
Now I'm going to add a layer to connect the hair.
I'm going to roll and use...
These are Damascus shears by Mizutani.
Those will set you back $1,500.
And those are what I'm going to use on the side of the hair.
Now I got something else for him too.
It's like...
For superior detail work, I'm going to use these.
These are the custom Goldron Sword D17.
It needs pest control.
I don't care who it is.
Oh, yeah.
The reason we go to Chicago is I guess there's just an absurd amount of insects out there.
Oh, yeah.
That makes sense too.
Like rodent wise and all that other ---- out there.
And that's all dollar signs.
It's like, oh, ----.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
Especially keeping the cost right and everything else.
Yeah, and the way it works is you sign them up for a year or two contract.
It's all up to you if you want to sign them up for just a year, two years, three years.
If you can get someone to sign up for three years, but then you take 30% of that.
So it's like contract ends up being $1,100.
You walk away with $300 of sale or something.
Oh, wow.
It can end up at the same time.
Probably knock on 100 doors a day and 60 people answer and maybe only two, three people sign up.
Very interesting the thought of trying to get someone's credit card information in two to ten minutes.
Well, I mean, and I'll tell you this.
Your interpersonal communication skills will go through the roof.
Yeah.
All of this will be monumental anyway for down the road for whatever.
Oh, exactly, yeah.
And you get to take money.
Yeah, and then it builds my resume, too, as well, which is another huge thing.
Because I didn't go to college, and I do not have any plans on going to college.
So this is perfect for me.
And there's nothing wrong with not going to school as long as you're willing to work hard and do other things.
You'll make more money on the road.
I never, I never, I mean, I took a bunch of random courses, but I never, I never got a degree.
Yeah.
So it's like, you know, look at me.
But yeah, that was my promise to myself.
I said, if I'm not going to school, I need to be successful another way.
So hopefully this is the golden ticket or the start of something.
Yeah, well, pretty much through the roof.
Yeah.
That should get me covered up.
Yeah, well, they'll take down your video, right?
If you copyright it?
They did remove one of my videos.
It must have been, like, an important copyright for some reason.
Yeah.
But, yeah.
Or eventually, if that video blows up or whatever, it's like, removed it.
Wait, do you have a YouTube channel?
No, I don't.
No, but I just, I've always watched podcasts and media channels.
I probably watch them more than I watch TV, though.
Yeah, so do I.
Actually, I barely watch any TV at all.
I'd rather just toss something like that on.
At least you can learn a little something.
It's like the Knout Boys or whatever.
It's like, heck yeah.
Have you seen that?
Oh, of course, yeah.
That's way more entertaining than American Idol.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
God damn.
I don't even know if American Idol is still on.
I don't think it is.
You know what?
Actually, I'm sure The Motherboarder is.
Yeah.
But I'm sure it's too dumbed down.
Oh, yeah.
It's horseshit.
You do the same thing every time.
It's like, you have some, you know, ******* idiot that sings.
Or the part where they're happy about it.
It's like some *******, you know, it's like, oh, that was magical.
And it's like, no, it wasn't.
It was like, well, that was horseshit.
It was nothing.
I know.
And then even the people that win the show, you never hear from them again.
Like, after a year, you know?
Yeah.
A long time ago, they were famous and everything.
Now they're like, you know, the two shits.
Yeah, I got it.
That's the only person you can say your name.
Because it's like, we don't know anyone else.
That's the only name that's like, you know, ******* has a household name.
It's like, oh, Kelly Clarkson.
It's like.
And what has she done in years?
Yeah, exactly.
She's gained weight.
You're not supposed to say that.
It's like, God damn.
Yeah, absolutely.
It's like, whatever.
It's like, bro, you've done not a God damn thing.
Get in the studio instead of the pantry.
I know, sure.
Well, this is how it works.
And it's like, ******* the best in every way.
I got to add details to this once I try it.
You know?
This is at such an elite stage that I'm like, oh, yeah.
All the blood, sweat, and tears are ******* in the mix.
I mean, the sauce, that pizza.
It was separate veins right through just to see it.
Okay, yeah.
Because I need those veins to lay over.
You need them to lay.
I don't do my cut based off of where the veins are.
Yeah.
I use that as a separate cut.
Yeah.
This came out sick.
You're going to really, really like this.
Well, my hair always curls up a bit.
So usually if it's wet, it'll be past my eyes.
But once it's dry, it's.
It lifts up.
Yeah, exactly.
But I'm just saying that's why I'll dry the veins and we'll look at them.
And then you'll be like, I need them lifted up a quarter inch.
Okay.
Or, you know, lifted up whatever.
And then that's when I could re-wet them and hop into that.
And then dry it and finish it out for the rest.
Okay.
But you need to see them dry.
That way you can know where they're.
And see how that looks already?
Oh, yeah.
Like, much sicker.
And then watch.
So how low do you.
How short.
How do you want the veins cut?
You know what?
I think it's actually.
All right, watch.
Let me do this for the side.
And then I want you to look at the back and everything and watch how everything looks together.
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean, they came down a little bit shorter with the cut anyway.
No, yeah.
Because I do want to leave them a little bit long on top.
But watch.
I'll show you what I did with the back.
How you know it's not.
It's not cut with clippers.
Here I added a layer.
And then watch.
I'm going to.
I'm going to just lightly texturize a border on the back while I do.
Lightly texturize.
Not all around the ear, but like just up in that area.
Yeah.
Just to where it's.
Watch.
You'll see.
Where it flares out.
Just a smidge.
Yeah.
And for those, I'm going to use the Nanos.
Okay.
It's good that you're busy, though.
Yeah, exactly.
You want to wait, wait.
You want to wear a mask, wear a mask.
You don't want to wear it.
The only one you do.
The world is yours.
Right now, you're in the church.
So you're my only concern.
Once they're in the church, they'll be my concern.
Yeah, exactly.
And they know that.
That's the beauty of this place.
They know that I'm not going to cut them.
I'm not on the telephone.
And it isn't.
Yeah.
I'm not thinking about anything at all.
That's what I want you to see.
Oh, dude.
Yeah.
See how that is?
And move it around.
Watch.
Brother, look.
That way, you can see that it's cut, but it's still longer.
Yeah, exactly.
See how that's starting to look like that?
Yeah.
And then, watch.
I even want you to stand up.
Because this one's special.
Dude, this ---- is.
Watch here.
Look.
This is a classic scissor haircut.
Watch.
Come over here.
And then, watch.
Let me get this.
First, like, head on in there.
Move your hair around.
I want you to.
Yeah, exactly.
Because I want you to see how it drops.
See how that is?
You were right about the front.
It is good.
Because it gives it that bounce.
Yeah.
It, like, really tightens up.
But I'm sure once I put a little bit of something in there.
Now, watch.
Now, face me.
Watch.
Now, look at the back.
Okay.
Yeah.
How that part is cut.
Yeah.
No, it's perfect.
You like the back?
No, absolutely.
I love the back.
Because I know in, like, a couple months, too, it'll start getting a little shaggy.
Absolutely.
And I just want to set it up.
Yeah.
I think it looks beautiful.
Oh, yeah.
Right.
Sure.
Hell, yeah.
Brother, I appreciate it.
Every time.
Hell, yeah.
