Since starting Davidsbeenhere in 2008, I have traveled to 71 countries and over 1,000 destinations, which I welcome you to check out on my YouTube Channel, blog and social medias.
I focus a great deal on food and historic sites, as you probably have seen! I love to experience the different flavors that each destination has to offer, whether it’s casual Street food or gourmet restaurant dining. I’m also passionate about learning the local history and culture.
We're about to eat at the best restaurant in Playa Flamingo, Mar y Sol. The restaurant is
an international cuisine and from here you will get the best sunset in Guanacaste. Upstairs you
have a cocktail hour for sunset and then after that everyone goes downstairs for dinner. Now
join me for one of the best nights of my life. Let's go.
Mar y Sol is obviously on the basis of French cuisine. All the method of,
in French you say, method de cuisine. All the methodology that we use is classic French based
but a lot of the ingredients in France or Europe are a lot different than the ingredients that we
have here in Costa Rica. So what I try to do is take that basic way of French cuisine but alter
it with the ingredients of Costa Rica and that's why we have a lot of mixture of classic with a
little tropical flair. Hey, how are you? Everything is wonderful. The sunset was absolutely
magnificent. We came down to good friends of ours that have a place here. Michael and Barbara,
they're fantastic. We live in New York. Manhattan, New York.
Oh okay. So I'm sorry to all the other sushi joints that I filmed but this is the best sushi
in Costa Rica. Literally it is. Wow. Looks fabulous. Let's dip our, this is the best plate I've had in
Costa Rica. I haven't even had the whole thing yet. Give me a second, let me eat it. We have
three main plates that people enjoy more so than the whole menu. I would say the duck definitely.
We do that with a guayaba cognac sauce. We do a confit on the leg and then we sear the breast
to whatever temperature the customer likes and that comes with the cognac guayaba sauce.
We also have the elephant tuna that we crust with sesame seeds and we do a wasabi foam on the top.
A little bit of molecular cuisine there and we serve it with a soy reduction and a little
asian pasta and of course the coconut amar that you had is a mixture of some different
fresh seafood of the area finished with a more of an asian base style. It has garlic, ginger,
lobster stock and fresh coconut milk and then we serve that inside a coconut. So those are
the three staple items I would say that I would recommend for sure. This is Marisol. Where have you been?
