State troopers from across the Commonwealth are expected to descend on Salem to honor
the life of a fellow trooper killed on his way home from work. This was a scene at the
funeral home yesterday. Local officers and some from around the country paid their respects
at the wake of Trooper Kevin Traynor. Trooper Traynor was killed last weekend in a crash
with a wrong-way driver. And his fellow officers and strangers are expected to line the streets
as a trooper is taken to his final resting place. Boston 25 News reporter Ryan Breslin
joining us live now in Salem. And Ryan, so many are sharing their glowing memories of the trooper.
Nicole and Jean, that's right. It will be a very difficult day for the family and friends
of Trooper Kevin Traynor as well as the Massachusetts State Police. His funeral is
expected to happen here at St. James Church in Salem later on this morning. Trooper Traynor's
wake taking place last night in puberty. Troopers along with other officers, they all gathered
at that funeral home in puberty last night doing a law enforcement walk through. Some coming from
Pennsylvania and Florida to pay their respects to his family. Traynor died one week ago responding
to a wrong-way driver call on Route 1 in Linfield. The trooper choosing to respond to that call
instead of heading home from his shift at the wake. State Police Colonel Jeffrey Noble says
he's grateful to Traynor and shared memories of him. He was among the leaders of the barracks
and really focusing on traffic safety and keeping impaired drivers off the road. There's no more
fitting tribute to Kevin's heroism than to stand with his fellow troopers, fellow police officers,
all of whom I believe would act in the same heroic way that Kevin did.
The funeral is scheduled for 11 o'clock this morning. Roads in the area, they'll start closing
around 7 30 by Salem. Police Trooper Traynor leaves behind a fiance, four siblings and his
mother. For now we are live in Salem. Ryan Breslin for your local station, Boston 25 News.
All right Ryan, thank you and we'll bring you live coverage of Trooper Traynor's funeral later
this morning. Special coverage will begin at 10 this morning leading up to the start of the service
at 11 a.m.
