【NOJI | Gunma】 Nestled in the quiet mountain countryside of Gunma, NOJI is a small bakery where each loaf is made by hand and baked over a wood fire, in rhythm with nature. The owner, Aya Oshima, values her close relationship with local farmers, often visiting the fields and spending time where the wheat is grown. After leaving her career in publishing, she opened a bakery in the city. Six years later, she chose to close it, moving to this rural landscape to reconsider what it means to live and work. This film follows their daily life as they begin again.

Isn't the refrigerator just too small to divide?
New refrigerator
It's been going on since around the time I was born.
I've heard that there were many hardships involved.
I just need to go see whichever person, right?
Not just looking at the field, or anything like that
Just meeting is enough
Happy
This is a refrigerator.
I'm fixing the small shed below, you know.
I hope a shop will open someday.
Please let anyone see it.
Since it's very juicy, I'll give you extra blood.
Nobu-chan
In 10 minutes
I think it will probably decrease even more by tomorrow.
My ears aren't hearing anything.
Sound?
Yes
Becoming like a kabusama
This is a fusuma.
Put in when I shook it
Shake it a little bit
Hand
What scent?
This is the scent of a dream.
It's been over ten years already, you know.
Perhaps a bit earlier?
A friend I've known since I used to run a shop before
But does it come several times during the season?
You're right.
Treading on the simulation or something like that
Going to visit ancient sites and such
It's as if they really let me get deeply involved.
In the field
My meeting with Akiyama-san a moment ago
What was it, I wonder?
I've been trying to remember it all along, you know
I quit the publishing company.
Started making bread
Gunma is an extremely major wheat-producing region.
Truly since I was very young
There were wheat fields everywhere.
Everyone, the children have gone walking through the wheat field.
elementary school
During after-school class meetings or such events
Sir,
Do not turn the wheat field into a manufacturer.
things like that are being said about me, and so on
The field is
There were also so many around elementary schools and such.
Quit the publishing house
When it comes to making bread yourself
I absolutely wanted to use Gunma's flour.
With so much wheat around here
I also want to use it.
We also meet at events and such.
While hearing from friends and such
During winter, you know
That's the way it is, everyone's sleeping like dandelions.
Dandelion?
Everyone's lying down on the grass.
To protect the tanker
It's stretching out so flat, isn't it?
But when spring comes, you see, this happens
It's standing up, you know.
So it was sleeping during winter, huh?
Even shorter
At a time like this, it's okay no matter how hard you push it.
Once it gets to this point, it's already hopeless.
I'm getting off now.
Are there any fun moments when you're farming?
There's definitely a kind of pleasure that comes from having arrived, isn't there?
Saying things like "the current state, considering what it's been like for the past 40 years"
The dandelion has become beautiful, come here.
Every year it's the same, you know
Even Akisi, who's made it look like a plaza
It's going to become a dandelion field from now on, huh?
Interesting
You go all the way to an amazing place.
It's Mr. Fukuda's family's park.
The grains are incredibly large.
I guess eating meals together and stuff like that
It becomes clear that such moments are incredibly important, you know.
That's why, when repairing this house,
I already fixed it from the kitchen.
Let's put this dining table here first.
Let's put down a table to eat rice together.
It's changed quite a bit, hasn't it?
It's not so much that my life changed, but...
It doesn't seem to be a bakery, actually.
The store is not open now either.
Never getting to meet the customers
Something like an old grandfather and grandmother, you know.
Because we've been doing this together all along.
Even though I'm overwhelmed with emotion, I understand how you feel.
Whenever I meet customers at events or similar occasions,
Receiving feedback from dedicated fans, and so on
I'm so happy.
After all, even just once a month, the lower hut...
It would be nice if we could make a place where we can call customers.
I'm fixing it as I speak.
I wonder how many more years I'll have to go.
It went by in the blink of an eye.
The previous shop had been operating for six years, but
I just realized it's already been four years.
Can you eat a lot?
Dried daikon radish from Akayama's house
It's super sweet.
The sweetness like sugar
Really delicious
I turned into kelp, kelp!
I'll let you know.
I want to eat kelp too.
Waiting
Waiting, waiting
Falling, falling
This is peel, you know.
I'll peel it rather than use the skin.
It's always so troublesome that I don't know what to do about it.
Last year, I sold it as jam, but
What is this supposed to make?
This is fried rice.
Fried rice and miso soup
I write about all sorts of things.
Various things
It writes something very confusing.
Weather, stuff like that
It's such weather right now
I'm glad you ordered this bread.
