The Housley Farm: Taking a Tour of Our New Home | Episode 3
Welcome to Week 3 of the Housley Farm Renovation Series! In this episode, all four of us are taking you on a full tour of the property and giving you a closer look at the land we’ll be transforming into our dream home. We’re sharing our ideas and recommendations, exploring the property, and even meeting a few new family members… aka some creatures along the way.
We’re so excited to bring you along for every step of this renovation journey as we build out the Housley Farm week by week!

A family explores their 15.5-acre California estate to plan extensive improvements. Their vision includes blending modern amenities—such as a \"barn-a-minium,\" sports courts, and a dock—with the preservation of native oak trees and natural landscapes, ultimately transforming the property into a multifunctional space for guests, recreation, and sustainable agriculture.
So we're waiting for our plans to be ready,
but the one thing we haven't yet done is walk the property.
We haven't actually like, we know what we have,
but we really don't know what's there.
Can you do this?
I don't know.
I've been dreading this.
No, I'm not kidding.
I don't know if I can get up here.
Really?
I don't know if I want to go over there.
I don't like to go where I can't see where I'm going.
I can't wait.
So before we go for a hike,
we just got done with school, as you can tell,
and some of us aren't totally ready to hike.
So it's time to?
Change.
We're back and ready to roll.
Tamara was already in full attire.
Yeah, I have, okay, I guess.
You got your?
Am I ready?
Well, Ariah stole your stick.
I had, I bought four of these for Christmas
and now we can use them.
And they actually have like gadgets inside.
Like this one has a knife.
Oh dear.
Okay.
So we see a snake, we got it, babe.
What is that on my leg?
What?
All right, so let's go.
Come on, guys.
How do you use this thing?
I'll show you.
Okay.
Show me.
Hey.
So obviously the bottom of the property
is where the vineyard's located
and we're going to put a barn over here
where these two very ugly buildings are located.
We're thinking about putting a barn-a-minium
and a barn-a-minium is condominium that's in a barn.
We have.
That's the name.
That's the name, barn-a-minium.
We want it to be a place
where our loved ones can come and stay
and also a place where if we have fundraisers
for the community, for schools,
we would love to have it there.
Oh, what's that?
That looks like poison oak.
No, only poison oak down here.
Let me see.
What is this?
What?
Oh, that's just weeds, Mom.
That's a weed.
Mom.
This way, this way, right?
Come on.
Oh, look at this view, guys.
This is so beautiful.
We love how it looks naturally, obviously.
I feel like that is the magic of this property.
Yeah, natural California landscaping.
So, and a cool pathway around,
like you're at a park.
Like you're at a park.
So, a cool pathway all the way around it
because over there has not been done yet.
And then-
It looks beautiful, though.
It looks gorgeous,
but we have to clean it up a little bit
and just kind of come around
and Aiden wants a dock right out here.
So, you can come out here and Aiden can fish,
but you also can have a picnic
or you can sit up there
and just take in nature
and not have to worry about the world
or whatever else is going on.
Sit there and just get some nice clarity.
And enjoy the amazing silence.
Oh, watch this.
We have one thing already.
You ready?
Hold on, ready?
Oh yeah, we have to show you guys.
We have one thing that we've added to the pond.
Housley, can you make it just go a little higher?
Yeah, we have the attachment.
We have to go out on a boat and do it.
Oh, I gotta go on a boat and do it?
We can make it pink.
Oh my gosh, I just got the coolest idea.
Oh my gosh, for Valentine's Day, we make it pink.
For Christmas time, we make it red or green, or red.
For St. Patrick's Day, we make it green.
Yes!
I have an idea though.
What?
Objection.
For my birthday, pink too.
You can only see the white at night.
That's the cool part.
And let's make it pink for my birthday, mom.
High five.
Yes.
Okay.
This pond's quickly changing.
So, now what?
We gotta keep walking.
Okay, here we go.
What is that on my leg?
What is that?
It's a bug.
What kind of bug is that?
It's not that scary.
Mom, you're freaking out so much.
We already have video of them seeing their first snake.
Ooh, first snake on the property.
They're so, I just don't like them.
But that's a beautiful colorway.
Yeah, I can appreciate the color and the pattern,
but I just don't like snakes.
Me neither.
I don't like snakes at all.
But see, I'm getting used to it.
Oh yeah, I was freaking out.
I was so scared.
It was right over there, and it was so scary,
but the pattern was kind of cool though.
So, this spot right here,
I feel it's one of those serene, gorgeous spots
where we can have a bench or some chairs for reading, right?
And writing.
Writing.
Journaling.
Like just hanging out with me and my friends
if we want to get away from him, you know, my brother.
This tree's gorgeous.
This is gonna be a really cool picnic area.
Can we light this tree?
Yep.
I think this would be gorgeous.
Light it up.
And then they already have this retaining wall right here
they put in years ago.
So, I want to wrap the retaining wall with rock
and just make it kind of a little more
where you can sit on it if you want to,
and then light this tree up.
And then I think we just,
because there's a lot of gophers up here,
I think we just cover it in bark.
I agree.
It'll be gorgeous.
Otherwise, keep it natural.
We got to trim it up though a little bit here
so you can see everything's kind of overgrown
on the property.
This tree's really pretty.
This tree is gorgeous.
So, obviously we're going to repave this road.
At the very end.
We're going to widen it out
to make sure that, you know,
fire trucks can get up there no problem.
God forbid there's any kind of major emergency.
And then also we have lights.
You can see there used to be lights here.
So, it's been wired.
This has been chewed on by something.
And this used to be a light
that would light up the driveway.
They have them all the way up,
but they're all broken.
And something's chewed on it.
First thing of your wish.
Three, two, one.
Ice drop.
Come over here real quick.
I want to show you guys something.
I don't know if I want to go over there.
You're fine.
It's safer here.
No, the grass is really tall.
Yeah, you're fine.
It's just grass.
Do you put on tick spray?
There's no ticks up here.
I guarantee it.
I'm going to do it.
I got my boots on.
This is so rattlesnakes can't get you.
Oh dear.
Okay, here we go.
All right, so this.
See, you know what it is?
I don't like to see.
I don't like to go where I can't see where I'm going.
Okay.
Just don't know what's up underneath this.
Dirt.
There's no ticks up here.
What's really cool is this meadow, babe,
goes down into like a,
I haven't been over there yet.
It's kind of like a goalie, a gulch type of thing.
But this tree here is called a moss oak.
Check it out, guys.
There's moss on it.
So the moss hangs.
In the wintertime, it turns like a dark green.
In the summertime, it starts to turn golden or almost white.
And it looks like it's weeds,
but it's actually part of the tree.
It's moss oak.
And in wintertime, when the really heavy rain comes
and it's colder, it turns dark green.
It looks really cool.
Right?
And this is all ours.
Yep.
I'm so embarrassed.
What?
I am.
I'm just slipping.
I don't think cowboy boots were the best boots
to wear for this.
No, I'm not kidding.
I don't know if I can get up here.
Really?
Yep.
Because it's slipping.
Oh, give me my hand.
Oh, weed is not gonna support your hand.
I know.
I'm trying to make sure my feet
are in the right place.
I'm already at the top.
So bottom layer, vineyard barn.
Next layer, pond.
Third layer is where we just were,
where maybe we'll put a nursery and just kind of cut it low.
So yeah, I'm thinking this would be a great place
for a swing right here,
because you drive right by it.
Put a swing right here and a tree house down here,
but we have to clean this out too.
It's all the, like the brush, the weeds,
there's some, I guarantee there's some poison oak
down in here.
So clean this out.
Okay.
And this, maybe you put the swing and maybe a tree house.
This is absolutely stunning.
And maybe a little picnic bench.
Wild turkeys, they're right there.
Wild turkey, right there.
Why Linda?
Because she looks like a Linda.
I've never walked over here yet.
Dad's never walked over there.
Babe, you look sexy.
Mom, don't say that.
He looks really sexy.
With the cowboy hat, just walking in the grass like that.
Unafraid.
Down there, eventually we can do a horse.
In the meantime, let's keep it down.
Maybe bring some sheep in to eat it down a little bit.
But over here, there's a lot of brush.
So we can put,
I know we want to do like a little pickleball court
with basketball and everything.
Yeah, right over here, right over here.
Oh wow, it's so flat.
We should put a pickleball court, basketball court
and volleyball court.
Yes.
Yeah, I'm good.
You're good?
I'm not going to go.
I'm going back.
This is too scary.
There's no reason to be scared.
It's just grass, it's just weeds.
I don't want snakes.
There's no snakes.
If there aren't, well, I'm sure there are snakes,
but we've already heard them.
Rattlesnakes are the only ones you have to worry about.
Look at that view down there.
Just stunning.
I don't know, I've walked out here before.
There's so many cool things we can do with this property.
Everybody, let's just be silent so we can get room tone.
Let's thank Jesus for this beautiful property.
Oh, that's actually very sweet.
And for giving me a pond with big fat fish.
I did not realize our property was this big.
How much acres is this?
15 and a half.
15 and a half?
Isn't this funny?
What?
The other one was 40.
Yeah.
Yeah, no way.
We made...
The other one was 40?
I will say, driving up here is stunning,
but when you walk it-
You feel the nature.
It is spectacular.
Yeah.
It's really magical.
One day, once everything else is done,
maybe a little guest cottage here.
But no sport court.
This is perfect.
Look at this view.
The guest would have-
Because you have your own...
Oh, oh.
I gotcha.
So you have your own space.
Yep.
Look, this is huge.
Look at this tree though.
That tree is sick.
It's like all twisted and just crazy cool.
Oh wait, for the guest house,
the house could be right here.
Then they could have a little backyard right here,
like a tiny little backyard.
I love it.
Maybe a little garden or something.
Yeah.
Look, our next door neighbors have a pond.
Yep.
All right.
Back up the hill.
We're almost there.
Back up the hill.
We're almost done.
Do you see how every angle is just absolutely breathtaking?
It is.
It's so gorgeous.
It's beautiful.
So this is my favorite tree.
I love it.
It doesn't produce fruit,
but we'll trim it up a little bit.
I don't know.
It's just something special about it.
It's fine.
A couple other trees are gonna come down though,
cause they're not natural to our area,
but this one stays.
It does.
Let's look at it.
Look at it.
It's just so cute.
Adam, it is adorable.
We have to have something right up underneath it.
A place for you to sit.
A chair, a bench.
You can sit under your tree.
You can hug your tree.
Yeah.
And just think and ponder.
I feel like that is the word of the episode.
A lot of places you wanna think and ponder in this house.
This is where our orchard is gonna be.
Yep.
We're gonna have apple trees, orange trees.
You're stealing my thunder.
I am?
Yeah.
Oh, what were you gonna say, Hasley?
This was my idea.
I didn't say it was my idea.
I said, this is what is gonna be here.
So what's growing over here, Hasley?
Cherry.
Apple.
Peach.
Apricot.
Nectarine.
I got an idea.
Oh no.
Which usually means I'm doing something.
We make preserves.
Oh gosh, I knew this.
Because I make strawberry jam.
She does.
All the time.
We can make it off of our property
and sell it at Hasley.
I think that's a great idea.
Are there bears up here?
Not on this side of the valley.
What do you mean not on this side?
There's little bears down there.
What if the little bears make their way up here?
If a little bear crosses the valley
and two highways to get over here,
the little bear deserves to be here.
The oleanders are not natural,
so those all gonna be gone.
But we'll keep the oaks.
The natural trees are gonna stay.
Okay.
The California trees.
These are gonna go too.
I mean.
I, listen.
I lived in Los Angeles for a very long time.
I don't want to see any part of it.
If you want a palm tree,
they're yours for free.
Come get them.
My goodness, look at him.
He loves it.
This is like his,
this and a baseball field.
Did he catch a fish?
Oh no.
No, he caught a piece of moss.
He catches a lot of moss.
I love how we can just walk down
and he's just chilling and he's just fishing.
This is why you live in the country.
Yeah.
Because of this or being on a smartphone
or a tablet, no.
It's this.
So, I have one question.
Yeah.
What was the best part of the hike?
Ooh, can I say?
Yeah.
The sound.
The peacefulness.
I just loved the views.
Were amazing.
And just imagining how amazing it's going to be
and how joyful it's going to be
compared to our other house that we have now.
Which we do love.
We love.
But I'm really excited for this house
and it's going to be an amazing journey.
What about you?
What about you, Aiden?
Kind of the same thing that Araya said,
but also the pond.
What I loved about it was,
I've obviously driven up the hill multiple times,
but there was something special
about actually walking the path
and just really taking in all the different senses.
You know, like the smells, the sound,
the feeling of the ground and walking.
Even though it was kind of daunting in the beginning,
but I don't know, it's very healing.
I love the layers.
I love you guys seeing the layers
of the property as you go up
and also getting used to being outside
and walking through grasses
and not being afraid to walk through grasses
and seeing a wild turkey walking on our property.
So this was fun.
Well, that's it.
We all had an amazing time walking the property.
Next up, demo.
We finally get to start tearing this thing down
and getting this whole process started.
So.
Make sure you like and subscribe.
Wow.
And hit that bell button.
