A contemporary tropical home designed as a breathable, landscape-rooted sanctuary. Built around courtyards and layered pavilions, the architecture dissolves boundaries between inside and outside, creating a seamless connection with nature.
Defined by its flared structural columns and deep, shaded verandahs, the home reinterprets tropical principles through a bold, modern language. Expansive roofs, passive cooling, and open volumes shape a climate-responsive environment that feels both protective and open.
The spatial journey unfolds across interconnected living spaces, wrap-around decks, and a central lawn, with a glass pavilion acting as a light-filled retreat. Natural materials, textured surfaces, and curated landscapes enhance the sensory experience, shifting beautifully from day to night. Conceived for evolving, multi-generational living, the home balances privacy and togetherness through fluid planning and strong visual connections. A project that doesn’t just sit on land, but grows from it, offering a tranquil, resort-like way of living rooted in nature.

One needs to, as a designer, one really has to understand that
growth of the house, need of the house in future. So when it comes, majority of people are concerned
about their own privacy. But at the back of the things is actually subordinating within family.
Now while making this house, we have lots of interaction all the time with the client.
And somehow we find that the client was always telling about the luxurious home.
But always back of the mind, he said, we love your landscaping, we want to live in forest.
And we see this as a big opportunity. And we really wanted to push that living in outdoor spaces.
We thought it would be a great idea to create a house of verandahs.
Hi, I'm architect Hiren Patel from HPAD Ahmedabad. For detailed chapters and the PDF ebook,
please visit buildofide website. So this house is basically in Chhattisgarh state in Raipur city.
It's a gated community of maybe 300 to 500 homes. The plot is almost about 8000 square yards,
about two acres of land. And the house must be more than 25,000 square feet.
And the top part is the north and we have the road access on the west side.
And also we have south side of the road. We have designed the house which is moving more towards
southern side of the plot. So you have the more northern side of the garden open.
You have the thing you enter from the west and then you have the parking zone over here.
Then you dry over here and then come to the canopy of the porch.
The main house will definitely has a little focus on vastu need as well.
And you come from the less northern side of the house, where you have a sense of arrival porch.
That's the basic formation. Now how you make this volume to be very nice and different verandahs
We started adding a kind of a verandah with a little roof to that to reduce the volume of the
masses with a beautiful kind of mushroom kind of column which becomes an identity for the house.
And there is a firm office, some basic space. And then we have the northeast of family space,
a beautiful courtyard in between and the formal living space.
We have the kitchen part coming on the southeast corner, dining part. The puja is right on the
east side. Northwest side is the parents room which is in front of the house because
old people like to see people more rather than having their own privacy.
Where the southwest side goes to the master bedroom, areas with the guest bedroom and
staircase coming up kind of thing. So very simple square rectangle formation.
We come up from the staircase to the space in the center of the house. And then also the
kids room in future. So house is taken care for next 10 to 15 years very easily.
Then we have a nice library because library will become very important part when the
family is going to grow. This part become a double height to overlook so there is a relation between
upper and lower ground. And at the same time we also have the entrance part which is double height
so you have the eye on that. The house is with the two young boy and they have lots of socializing
happening. Exactly opposite to the house at the northeast corner, we brought a nice facility for
their spa, massage, everything with the private open to sky pool. But that pool has been covered
with another structure in the front which is like a gym and home theater and party lounge kind of
thing. And to connect this both house we have another outdoor living space over here. So
suddenly this formation was agreed upon but we realized that we actually need a lot more spaces
which should be more outdoor spaces, semi-covered spaces so we started marking them out. So their
semi-covered spaces are suddenly started stepping up in the house as additional features for the
home. So everywhere there is a space where you feel like sitting outside. And then obviously
it should be near the garden so we started forming courtyard garden and we suddenly realized that
okay now we have to create like more like a forest. So instead of the just a plain lawn
we just started building a trees forest within. So you don't see the flat lawn but you start seeing
more of a forest kind of living. On the southwest side we completely created which is more of a
fruit orchard where they can come out and sit. It's very simple connecting paths all around the
house all three spaces which we have and I think it's working very beautiful because
they use for morning walk and kind of thing. It's like a combination so it's a they have their own
spaces but at the same time they have bonding among the things. So suddenly house is now getting
covered with lots of thick trees and I'm still saying that another three years four years house
is completely going to be hide away into the this forested trees and thick plantation and
it will have its own ecosystem. House is meant for enjoying the garden we have every room has a big
large windows with the extra overhang so it is taken care of and where there is a direct sun
coming from the west and south we have planted trees heavily so eventually it will give the
shade to the house. In our material we have natural marble for the entire house including
the bedrooms and living spaces we have variation of the marble. Let's say when the we as a designers
or we as a designers are exhausted they get the new energy to the client and then they travel
they go to the art galleries they go to the fair art fair and they buy a meaningful
decor which showcase a lifestyle of the client rather than just filling up to make it look
beautiful. So now in our houses there is a lots of warmth a lot of personal touch because a lot
more work has been done in styling with consulting and lots of debate and discussion with the client
that is not just a one drug has come or one painting has come there is a lot more thoughts
behind that. To this house our takeaway would observing a light for this house obviously
everybody at this society level with their way of living wants air-conditioned complete house
we have 100% let's say we have entire roof covered with the solar panels still you need a
your use of air conditioning is much more right. So what we realized how we switch over the lifestyle
and that's where we thought let's plant more let's plant more let's have more more verandas
and eventually we just start realizing that oh I enjoy rather more sitting in the morning and
evening in veranda than my air-conditioned room watching Netflix. So that's the thought process
for this house I think that's the takeaway for this we have cracked it well because we start
getting now more picture of the client side to on our whatsapp about okay this fruit has come
this tree looks like this these birds are now here in making nesting at our place.
So suddenly we realize now no more talking about the luxury of which they already have
they loved it about less Italian marble expensive carpet but now no more pictures
come from that they have also become the lover of the nature and that's a success for us.
