A monk and a beggar, they crossed paths.
The beggar saluted the monk and said,
I have suffered for so many years.
Still, I don't know really what suffering means.
The monk looked at him and took out a beautiful flower.
This is the flower I have cultivated for so many years in my cultivation path.
Please, have a taste on its petals.
The beggar took out one of his leaves, tasted it,
and said, this is the worst, the most bitter flower I have ever tasted.
I have never tasted such a bitter thing in my life.
And the monk said, every petal of this flower,
it is so bitter because it represents all of my suffering.
There is no beauty without suffering.
And this is the story that is actually teaching us that
a beautiful thing like a flower, it can actually represent anything.
It can represent our beautiful family, the beautiful bond we have with our partner,
our beautiful enterprises, our great possessions in life,
all things we hold dear and beautiful in our hearts.
They have come from numerous difficulties that cause us suffering.
Whether we want to succeed in our career, in our personal life,
in other things we hold dear, we have to sacrifice our time, our energy,
we have to let go of other desires, we have to make difficult choices.
We suffer.
There is not a worthy thing in this universe that has not come from suffering.
So every time we lose heart or we think that there is no light at the end of the tunnel,
we have to remember that every petal of this flower is made of suffering.
And that is a good thing.
