All the way up to 47 years young, we love to celebrate our animals each and every day.
So I have just one question for all of you.
Are you ready?
What a great way to kick things off.
Hi everyone, I'm down here on your left hand side by the glass giving you a big wave hello, wave back if you can see me.
Hi everyone, my name is Nadia and I actually grew up here in San Diego.
And because of that, I can tell you about all the amazing wildlife that we have here.
From tide pooling and looking at sea anemones to snorkeling and watching the sea lions swim along the coast.
Ever since I was little, I've been interested in interacting with animals any way I could.
But as I got older, I realized that my main passion was in marine mammals.
Growing up in San Diego also meant that I came to SeaWorld almost every weekend growing up.
This is where I got to see some of the same animals I saw in the ocean up close.
And I got to learn a little bit more about them.
This is also where I got to witness the amazing relationships the animals here share with their trainers.
Now I'm so glad I got to see all this growing up, but I know that's something not everyone has the opportunity to experience.
SeaWorld allows people from all over the world to come learn about marine life and conservation.
By being here today, we hope that you all are inspired to care for the world around you and all of this incredible wildlife.
Now I'm also proud to say that SeaWorld is a leader in marine animal rescue and rehabilitation.
And I knew this was something I had to be a part of, so I went to school for marine biology at San Diego State University.
And after I graduated, I came right back here to SeaWorld to join our dolphin team in caring for these amazing dolphins and, of course, our two short-minted pilot whales.
Now, all of our animals serve as great ambassadors for their species, which is why my friend Max gets to come up here and meet a dolphin.
Everyone, let's give Max a great round of applause.
Here are three of our dolphins joining us, one of which is Melanie.
She is our largest dolphin at just under 700 pounds.
Yeah, that's a pretty big difference compared to our smallest adult dolphin.
Her name is Bullet, and she only weighs 380 pounds.
Now, dolphins have a matriarchal social structure, which means that the females are in charge.
All right, I'm going to have you come under this right here.
Perfect.
And Melanie's going to come give us a big wave.
Hello.
Great job, you guys.
Now, Melanie can make all different kinds of sounds.
So what we're going to do is we're going to take our fingers and we're going to bounce them up and down.
Ready?
One, two, three.
Great job, you guys.
All right, now, in just a second, Melanie's going to make her way back.
But when she comes back, what we're going to do is we're going to do some dancing with her.
So you are going to spin your body in a circle, and Melanie's going to do the same thing as you.
Are you ready?
Okay, go for it.
You can go ahead and spin in a circle.
Oh, my goodness.
You guys are doing amazing.
All right, last thing we're going to do is get you set up for a photo.
Why don't you just stand right here just like that.
Melanie's going to wave behind you, and I'm going to get out of your picture.
Say, see you around.
Oh, my goodness.
I had no idea that that was going to happen.
Everyone, let's give it up for Max and his new friend, Melanie.
Thank you.
Great job, Benny.
Back to you, Tia.
Thanks, Nadia.
As one of the teacher trainers, one of our most important things for today is making sure it's everyday for our animals.
It's new and exciting.
And that's because they're participating in a variety of sessions.
One of the most important sessions for us to build relationships with our animals is a playtime session.
So, please watch as we share this playtime with our dolphins and their trainers.
Why aren't you dancing?
Woo!
It's amazing animals with such incredible stories,
When animals like our rescued pilot whales and rescuing of animals at SeaWorld were 28 to 60 years distant.
This would not be possible without your help and support.
So thank you for being here today.
Give yourselves a big round of applause.
Our mixing dolphin family makes their way back out through a grand finale.
We hope that they would inspire you to make a difference for the oceans that surround us.
Not just for us, but for generations to come.
By reusing and recycling, you can keep trash from entering animal habitats.
And you can join or organize community cleanups in your area.
Little things like this add up to make a big difference.
Just by being here today, you've already shown your love for animals.
And we hope that you would join us in our commitment to care for the land, sea, sky, and all of their amazing creatures.
Speaking of amazing creatures, these dolphins have some amazing adaptations that they're ready to fill for all of you.
Such as the ability to echolocate and find where they are underwater without being able to see.
And another adaptation that has a stronger coloration, which is a natural camouflage of the ocean for them.
And it looks like the game's all due, which means it's time for some more fun.
So, let's live it up, because the world is ours!
Thank you, toddlers, and enjoy the rest of your day here at SeaWorld San Diego!
