Take a breath and let it
See the wonder
Be inspired
Come on and let me in
You know you're born
To the majestic
And the precious
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Yes, I can still be there
Just know it's like the sky
This is just one of several different species of whales and dolphins.
Also known as cetaceans, that can be found right off the Florida coast.
All the dolphins you'll meet today were born within our seaworld parks,
and they range in age from 6 all the way up to 47 years old.
During today's presentation, be sure to visit us next door at Key West Dolphins Cove.
There, you can learn even more and get a closer look at this amazing green mammal.
Now that we've met some of our pod, let's dive in and talk about what makes dolphins so cool.
Nature has given them some amazing adaptations that allow them to navigate, forage, and, of course, to play.
One of these is the vocal, located on top of their heads.
This is where they breathe from and also where they vocalize from.
So, let's listen in.
Which largely consists of fish, squid, and the occasional crustacean.
In order to catch that fast-moving and slippery fish,
dolphins like to use their hard tails,
reaching speeds up to 22 miles per hour.
Dolphins will also use their powerful teeth to get a better look above the surface,
getting their bodies all the way up to the head of the water.
Engaging them mentally allows us to give them the best care possible
and provides exceptional animal welfare.
We'll use care to develop bonds and build relationships with them,
much like you would with a dog at home.
Although dolphins seem to be natural athletes,
our mutual love of play is one thing that provides that connection between us.
And over the last 60-plus years,
SeaWorld has learned that their play ultimately leads to heart discoveries.
So, while our playtime today may just look like a lot of impressive jumps and spins,
it's actually an essential part in how we care for them.
The chance to get up close and to spend time with dolphins like this
really can bring out the child in any of us.
And childhood memories can often last a lifetime.
That's why today we hope to inspire a young SeaWorld guest
in much the same way that myself and the other trainers were inspired
on our early visits here at SeaWorld.
With that, I have a special guest joining me today.
Hey there, what's your name?
Ray, it is really nice to meet you.
And where are you visiting from?
Your house.
Perfect.
All the way from Georgia.
...relationships with our dolphins.
But to do that, we've got to get a little closer to my friends here.
So, we're going to take a couple steps forward.
How's that sound?
We're going to take a couple steps all the way up to this seat over here.
Perfect.
Now, Ray, can you find this?
Ray, meet Tyler.
Tyler, meet Ray.
Let's do one for each hand this time.
Ray, he's a dolphin!
Look at all that shiny stuff.
Do you know what that is?
It's fish guts.
It smells gross.
That's okay.
Another perfect way to get rid of them.
First thing you do is you show your hands to Tyler.
And then you put them together.
And then you rub them.
Faster than that, Ray.
Even faster.
Now, you know what you're going to do next?
Strive on.
That is going to be a long trip home.
Ray, something else that Tyler really seems to enjoy.
Nice, soft back touches.
So, why don't you put both knees down on the ground right next to me.
You can reach out.
You can give him a hug.
Tyler actually has a tickle spot.
So, I'm going to take your hand and give him a little tickle right there.
Tickle spot, Ray.
That was great.
Why don't you stand up nice and tall?
We are going to quickly launch by asking Tyler to go right at Tyler.
Perfect.
Look at those trees over there.
Ready?
One, two, three.
Check it out, Ray.
He saw you.
And this is just for you.
Ray, what kind of fish are you feeding Tyler today?
Take a guess.
Any guess.
There's also herring.
That's okay.
We'll leave that one for the peanut crew.
Sardines.
And, Nate, Dolphins like Tyler to eat thousands of fish every single day.
Are you having fun today, Ray?
Me too.
And you were lucky enough to be randomly selected to participate in our present goal.
But did you know everyone out there has a chance to feed a dolphin as well?
That's right.
Right next door, we offer animal encounters.
And that's a great way for you to get to spend some extra time with some of our book group friends.
After the presentation, just exit to the left, look for the yellow cabana,
and that's where you can book your very own dolphin adventure.
All right, Ray.
A couple more fish for you to toss to Tyler.
Check out our hands again.
We do.
We shook Tyler.
We put him together.
We rub him.
Pass him that, Ray.
Even better.
Yep.
And then we just rub him.
We forgot to touch your hair a little bit though when we came out.
Make sure we get our pants this time too.
Yeah.
Perfect.
Now you smell like a dolphin.
Ray, you have been an amazing team member here.
I just have one thing left for you to do.
And that's to take just him and your book group friends a big wave goodbye.
Hey, everybody.
That's Ray.
What about all of you?
Are you ready to see some more?
Well, it's great because we still have so much more for you to discover.
The Discovery Academy Express.
Dolphins are uniquely curious.
And in the ocean, this can lead them to explore polluted areas.
So, what can we all do to help?
Small things can have big impacts.
Recycle.
Join a beach cleanup.
Be sure to properly dispose of fishing line and plastic bottles.
Better yet, choose reusable items to reduce the amount of waste we all produce.
Simple actions like these can go a long way in protecting ocean life.
The other trainers and I are just a few of over 350 surviving professionals here on the SeaWorld team.
Collectively, this team not only provides world-class care for these dolphins,
that's facilitated in the rescue of over 42,000 animals
with the goal of rehabilitating and returning those animals to their natural habitat.
And that's all because of you.
Your visit today matters.
And without your support, we wouldn't be able to do this good work and save wildlife.
That is our hope.
So, on behalf of our entire animal care team, we say thank you.
Taking action on behalf of the animals that call it home.
That's part of a legacy we leave behind.
And that legacy is worth celebrating.
