Video Summary
AI GeneratedAlexandra transforms Natasha and Tex's plain, cluttered bedroom into a bold, eclectic sanctuary. By utilizing \"color drenching,\" strategic storage solutions, and a primary color palette with stripes, the design maximizes a small Victorian space to reflect the couple's personality while organizing Tex's extensive book collection.
Hey guys, welcome back to my channel.
I'm Alexandra, and I am so excited about today's makeover because we are helping
our very own Team AG member, Natasha and her partner, Tex, makeover their bedroom.
Let's get started.
Before we get started, hit that subscribe button.
I am trying to make it to 1 million subscribers by the end of the year.
I know we can do it.
It's time to hop on a call with Natasha and Tex.
Okay.
Hi.
Natasha, this is so exciting that we're doing this.
I know.
I'm so excited.
This call is really just to get to know both of your styles, your wants for the
space.
I think first I would just love to know what's not working.
So a little background, I guess.
I moved into this apartment about four years ago, and then Tex moved in two years
ago.
We've done a good job of blending our styles in the living room, which is where
we are right now, but our bedroom has been neglected a bit.
It's very white.
There's not really a lot of color happening.
And I feel like you love color so much.
So despite always wearing black, I do really like color.
Get a little bit of it in the hair and that's better.
We both have a lot of stuff.
We're big knick-knack people.
Tex is an artist, so he has a bunch of books.
And our apartment is in a Victorian building, so apparently Victorian people
didn't have a lot of clothes because our closets are tiny and we've had to do a
lot of stuff to try and make better storage, but it's not quite there.
I mainly have a couple of drawers in the dresser and some under the bed storage as
well that we use, but kind of all over the place, so it's not as streamlined, I
guess, as it could be.
Because it's such a small room, I think the under bed storage is pretty useful.
Okay.
Your nightstands, are they working for you?
Do you need more storage in your nightstands?
We do like having storage in the nightstands.
They look nice, but they're not the most functional.
Because they're on the floor, they block those two drawers under the bed, which is
a bit difficult too.
Oh, okay.
Do you have an overhead light in your bedroom currently?
We have a classic boob light.
No.
Believe me, I would have changed it, but I don't know where my breaker box is.
Got it.
Grant will figure that out for sure.
Yeah, I have emailed the landlord.
We are going to figure it out.
Okay, Tex, this is a question for you.
So if you could have your dream bedroom, what would it look like?
What would it feel like?
I think currently it's not a room that I spend a lot of time in.
It's just kind of a place to sleep.
So it'd be nice having it look nice.
It'd be cool.
And I have a lot of books and graphic novels that I'd like to maybe have some
shelves to put on.
I think we could do something fun with that.
I feel like all your furniture is quite low.
It'll look really great if we use the walls and build kind of upwards.
I love your inspo.
I love your style.
It's just so cool.
Walk me through why you picked these inspo photos and what your vision is.
So when I was looking for inspiration, I was coming back to color blocking.
Like, I like big swashes of different colors.
Tex and I really like primary colors.
I love stripes.
Stripe in a carpet, stripe in a bedding, anything.
I'm obsessed.
I love a stripe as well.
I think we could do something fun with that.
Yeah, it's really cool.
It's like sad to me to go in there and be like, oh, I work for such a cool team
that does such cool stuff.
And like, we make these beautiful spaces for people.
And I come home and I'm like, oh, this is so sad.
I haven't done it to my own space.
It's just, I feel like it doesn't reflect our personalities.
And I want color in there so badly.
Color drenching and like these nice, warm, happy colors would be so nice.
I'm really, really excited.
I feel like this is going to be a great before and after.
You did such great work.
So I'm excited to give back a beautiful space to you.
Thanks so much.
I was going to say Alanna will be in touch, but I'll see you guys at work.
Tex, it was so nice meeting you.
Very nice to meet you too.
I'm really excited for this and I will meet you on reveal day, which is so great.
We'll see you then.
Thanks guys.
Bye.
Okay.
So there are definitely some functional changes we need to make to this space.
There's kind of stuff scattered all over the bedroom.
I think we're going to want to consolidate that, organize everything a bit, but
more so we need to just bring in tons of personality that just isn't there right
now.
Tex and Natasha's inspo photos just like scream what I know about Natasha.
She loves bold color.
She loves a stripe.
She loves a space that is eclectic and just filled with pattern and color.
So here's what I'm thinking.
Paint is going to be such a game changer on these walls.
We need to add color.
I'm thinking a muted blue on the walls and then mustard yellow trim.
I want to give Natasha and Tex even more clothing storage.
So I'm thinking of thrifting a dresser and giving it a striped moment like in all
of those inspo photos we saw.
I want to add a cool overhead light, something a bit modern with lots of arms.
I want to bring in a whole new bed with accessible under bed storage so that they
can actually use the storage underneath there.
I want to bring in a Billy bookcase painted the same color as the wall to house
all of Tex's books, all of his collectibles, and just give him a moment in this
bedroom as well.
I'm going to be honest with you guys.
I have really, really been struggling with my mental health.
I've had more panic attacks recently than I have had in years.
I've been working with my doctor and I've also been attending weekly therapy
sessions and really leaning on my therapist to help me come up with tools and
strategies that I can implement when I have a panic attack.
I've been having panic attacks, traveling, walking outside of my house, even on set
when we're doing makeovers with the people that I feel safest around.
Working with my therapist has helped so much because in these moments I'm able to
use tools to help me get through the tough period when I'm really feeling quite
anxious.
Therapy has always been important to me, but especially during this time when I've
needed it the most, which is why I'm so happy that BetterHelp is sponsoring
today's video.
BetterHelp is on a mission to make starting therapy easier.
To start, you fill out a questionnaire and you'll be matched with a therapist in as
little as a couple of days.
You can also easily switch therapists at any time if it's not the right fit.
I know finding a therapist that you click with is super, super important.
With over 7,000 reviews and a 4.3 rating on Trustpilot, BetterHelp is a platform
you can trust.
Click the link in my description or go to betterhelp.com slash gator to get 10% off
your first month of therapy.
If you are also going through a tough period with your mental health, just know
that I understand, I get it, you're not alone.
I hope that me being vulnerable pushes you to take the step to get the help that
you need.
Okay, let's get back to the makeover.
So Alana and I are at HomeSense and we are here looking for a mirror above
Natasha's dresser.
Look how cute Alana's outfit is today.
Do a little strut for us.
Oh, baby.
That's it.
That's the mirror.
It's only $130.
That's a steal.
One piece of advice I have for shopping at HomeSense is never skip out on the
lighting section.
They have big lights, trendy lights, small lights, like lights for any occasion.
Like look at this.
How cute is that?
But then you have these, which are more of a classic.
HomeSense also always has these little baby lights that are so great for small
spaces, whether it's like your desk or a small side table.
Also rugs at HomeSense are amazing.
This is a low-lie rug and it's nine by 12 feet.
This probably retails for, let's actually, editors, find the retail cost.
Cause I know it's probably double what this is.
This is 600, which for a nine by 12 rug, amazing.
And it's a designer rug.
Ooh, look at this one.
10 by 14.
That's stunning.
Okay.
So we've grabbed a mirror, but we still need to grab lots of little accessories,
like styling for her dresser, maybe the bookshelf.
So let's head to the accessories.
It can be really overwhelming to shop the HomeSense decor section because there
is so many options in like every color way.
So what Alana and I love to do is take out our mood board and just like shop
within like colors in the mood board.
So for Natasha's, lots of like quirky shapes, lots of big, bold colors.
I would encourage you to grab different heights of things.
So we've got a couple low things, some cute books to style with.
And so now I'm looking for something tall.
You want to have a variation of height when you're styling a shelf like this.
While Alana and I are shopping at HomeSense, Graham and Nolan are back
at Natasha in Texas and they are getting a headstart on painting.
They're painting out the trim in tan lines by backdrop and then painting
out the walls, the early stuff.
That's the beautiful blue color also by backdrop.
You guys, this is an old building.
So the walls are extremely textured.
I think it kind of adds to the charm of it, that like cool eclectic vibe.
But yeah, that's why there's lots of texture on the walls.
Hi guys.
I'm so excited to be here making over Natasha's bedroom.
If there was ever a time where we're going to use these two colors
together, it would be right now.
These are so Natasha.
The blue is perfect.
The mustard is perfect.
They're like dusty and muted, but still bold.
We are going to get started right away with installing a bookcase.
I really wanted this bookshelf to have a built-in look on the wall.
So to make this happen, we are going to paint the bookshelf
the same color as the wall.
When you're painting IKEA furniture, there's a few steps you're going to
want to keep in mind for a durable finish.
First, Graham is sanding to scuff the surface using 60 grit sandpaper
with an electric sander.
Now that that's done, he's going in with a shellac based primer.
For the paint, Graham is using the early stuff, the same
color that's on the walls.
But he's using the paint in a 30% sheen semi-gloss finish.
He's also doing three coats of this on the bookshelf.
Graham is sealing it with a satin lacquer.
This is going to kind of put like a hard coating over the whole shelf to
make it easy to clean and make sure it doesn't scuff.
Okay.
So Graham said he could build this with his eyes closed.
I took out the instructions.
He said, no worries.
I can build this with my eyes closed.
So, sir, what's the first piece?
The long one.
Sir, who knows how to build this with his eyes closed?
Oh, we're still going to reference the instructions.
Then they say, have a bowling alley size room to put this piece in now.
It's like, you have to slide it in from the bottom.
Why are you high-fiving?
You're not done yet.
We got to put it up.
Pump us up.
Okay.
So I knew that we had to add in lots of book storage for texts, but I was kind
of struggling because the room is small.
So I went with the trusty Billy bookcase.
It's narrow in size, but holds a lot, but we are doing something
we've never done before.
We're adding a baby, baby.
We're adding a baby on top.
So if you didn't already know, the Billy bookcase can actually be extended.
You can buy extension pieces.
So my idea was we would carry it as far to the ceiling so we can
make use of all that wall space.
That was my thought process.
This was the wrong piece.
It's all good.
It's like a little hat.
Ooh.
Whoa.
Look at that.
I'm surprised at how clean it looks.
I know.
Graham is trimming the bookcase as much as he can to mount it as
close to the wall as possible.
The bookshelf isn't able to be perfectly flush as there would be a hole in the
backing board if you cut all the way.
So this is a great compromise.
Graham is now mounting the bookcase to the wall.
Very important.
Make sure you secure your Ikea furniture to the wall.
Okay.
Next up, we are changing the landlord special.
It's a classic boob light and it's got to go.
Natasha and her inspo had so many lights with multiple
arms, just like this one.
And my tip here is go big with your lighting, even in a small space.
When you walk into a room and you see a beautiful light, it's like,
Hey, these people put thought into their decor.
They know what they're doing.
This beautiful light is from Mitzi.
It looks amazing.
We are going to move on to building the bed now.
It is so hot in this bedroom.
I'm like, I'm hot.
Yeah.
You guys might hear like a low hum of a fan, but I'm sorry.
We can't turn it off.
Cause it's so hot.
No, no, no, no.
Turn it on.
You know this song?
This is why I'm hot.
Graham, feel.
It's because he built an article bed.
Graham?
I don't want to.
Like sweat is dripping down my face right now.
All I'm doing is twisting some screws into, it's down my back.
And I said, dress lightly.
And I did not for some reason.
Oh, can you imagine that though?
Like meter housing?
This gorgeous bed is from article.
Put the screws in your mouth.
Okay.
Now put your hand underneath.
No, no, no.
Why are you getting close?
Let's put your hand under the front of the, cause I have to
hold the bracket on the back.
Cause you need to drill it in place.
See how there's a little cutout here.
That's because there's a hole at the back.
So the cords can all just be tucked behind the headboard.
And then you won't see them.
This is a 21st century bed.
Nice.
I'm just really hot.
I can't think straight.
This bed is so beautiful.
I love that it has built in nightstands.
Tomorrow I am going to bring an under bed storage once I place the rug.
But this is looking so good.
I'll see you guys bright and early tomorrow.
See ya.
It's a new day.
I walked in here today and was admiring this bookshelf.
It looks so good.
That added height just makes the ceilings look that much taller in here.
Also the paint color looks so good.
We are going to start by placing the rug.
We built the bed.
So we're going to have to like maneuver it and lift the bed up.
It's going to be, it's going to be interesting, but let's do it.
Whoa.
Yes.
I am loving this rug from Ruggable.
You have to.
Plus it's washable, which is such a bonus.
And push her back.
Wow.
That was way easier than I thought it was going to be.
I love how it pulls up the color from the bedding.
It looks awesome.
Article just does storage really well.
I feel like, especially when it comes to like cords and cord
management in their desks, in their beds.
So Natasha mentioned that she had under bed storage.
She used it, but it wasn't very accessible for her.
These are from Article.
I actually have these in my bedroom.
I love them because they offer so much under bed storage and they're on wheels.
So easy.
You guys remember how Tex had under bed storage on his side of the bed
and it wouldn't open because it was hitting the outlet.
No problem.
Under bed storage.
I was looking for a really big dresser for Tex and Natasha.
They needed more clothing storage.
So I wanted to find something that spanned this whole wall.
So like I was out for a run and I came across this dresser.
And so I couldn't take it home with me.
So I had to go back the next day.
And it was still there.
It's still there, but it's pouring rain.
So we scrubbed this whole thing down, painted it, sealed it.
Yeah.
And you can actually watch the whole transformation on Graham's video.
It's such a great video because you can learn how to repurpose a thrift bine.
I feel like we saved this from the landfill.
The only money I spent on flipping this dresser was actually just buying
the painter's tape because we had the paint, we had the finish.
That's amazing.
I haven't told you yet, but there is like some speed bumps.
Roadblocks?
Some roadblocks with this dresser.
Yeah, it was missing a couple of drawers.
Okay.
I can't wait to see it.
So what should they do?
Like, watch.
Subscribe.
And subscribe.
Hit that bell.
I'm going to put it in place and then I'm going to jazz it up with some knobs.
Jazz?
One of my oldest tricks in the book is switch up your knobs on your dresser.
Just adds a little hit of decor.
The crazier, the better in some cases.
But because this dresser is so bold and stripy, we wanted to go with
something a little bit neutral.
We're short one knob, so we're going to run out and grab one.
But for now, this is looking real nice.
Do you guys remember the mirror Alana and I found at HomeSense?
I'm going to hang that now.
Isn't she a beaut, Karla?
Yeah.
$130.
One, three, zero.
I don't think this is what I could deal with.
Yes.
Mirrors like this are usually like $500.
Oh my God.
You can do it, Alexandra.
I know.
Isn't that stunning?
Hanging another mirror on the back of Natasha and Tex's door.
Natasha had this mirror before, but I wanted to take it off the floor, put it
on the door, so it's more functional and space saving.
It's a two person job.
So Graham is going to help.
Tell the camera that you put brackets on the bottom so it can't.
You tell them.
No, I am just too sweaty.
He put two brackets on the bottom of the mirror so that the mirror is not
going to swing when the door's open.
It's going to be secure.
So good.
Okay.
It's time to make the bed.
I'm using these gorgeous sheets from Piglet in Bed.
The linen is so soft.
I'm adding these beautiful gingham curtains.
We reinstalled their blackout shades, so they also have those for privacy and
darkness, but these add a fun pop of pattern.
Whenever you're hanging curtains, make sure they're kissing the floor like this.
This is like perfect.
Okay.
Wow.
These look so good.
I wanted to corral all the books and Texas collectibles into one place.
It might look like there's less stuff in this bedroom, but it's honestly because
we just corralled it all in one spot.
Having that extra extension bit on the Billy bookcase also really
helped give us lots of space.
I've also styled this.
So there's more than enough room for texts to grow into the shelf.
Okay.
I'm finishing off the day with some bold and beautiful art prints from minted.
I love minted.
I love that their pieces come framed.
They're just always so gorge.
So we're going to do a little cluster.
That's it for me today.
I need to go take a cold shower, jump in a body of water of some sort.
Um, I'll see you guys tomorrow for finishing touches and the
reveal with Natasha and Tex.
See you then.
I am so excited to announce that we just dropped the palmed summer collection
filled with new pom pom slippers and just like bright, beautiful colors.
Amanda is modeling the collection this season.
So slay.
All the slippers are handmade in Morocco by local artisans.
You can switch the pom pom in and out.
We also have decor like these beautiful lamps that are handmade in Morocco.
Key chains made in Peru.
And then our beautiful DIY outlet covers made right here in the Team AG workshop.
Everything has been restocked.
So shop now alexandragator.com or you can click the link in my description box.
Happy shopping everyone.
And happy summer.
Hi guys.
It's a new day.
So excited to reveal this bedroom to Natasha and Tex.
It's coming along very nicely.
We're going to move into finishing touches.
Before we do though, I wanted to mention, I was thinking about how this bedroom
is a really great example of how far a little bit of paint can go.
Changing up textiles, adding a new rug.
You don't always have to do everything I do.
Adding a new rug to really see a change in your space.
So wanted to let you guys know that because I'm really, I'm proud of this.
I'm proud of like how minimal, but like effective the changes we've made in here are.
Let's move into finishing touches.
I'm starting by putting a palmed light on each nightstand.
These are available on alexandragator.com in three colors.
Moving on to styling the dresser with their typewriter, some coffee table books, a
candle holder, a plant, and a giant stripy candle.
I'm leaning Texas skateboard against the wall and I'm adding a step stool for easy
access to the top of the bookcase.
I'm styling the bed with these velvet pillows from article.
I'm placing a plant in one windowsill and a vase in the other.
Finally, I'm adding in Texas collectibles around the room.
Okay.
It's time to bring in Natasha and Tex for the reveal.
I am always nervous for reveals, but I'm feeling extra nervous.
Because it's Natasha.
Let's bring them in.
Okay, I'm going to open the door.
I'm actually shaking.
Oh my gosh.
Okay.
Are you guys excited?
So excited.
Can you guys walk me through what your room looked like before?
It was white.
We had a mismatch of our things that has no discernible design.
Packed with books and things, knickknacks.
Okay.
Are you guys ready?
On the count of three, I want you to open your eyes.
Okay.
One, two, three.
Oh my gosh.
It looks so nice.
Oh man, that is so cool.
Holy sh**.
Pretty cool.
Crazy.
Wow, you guys did such a good job.
Oh my gosh.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
Oh, it's so colorful.
The colors are awesome.
So many stripes everywhere.
I know.
Sorry, we went kind of stripe heavy.
No, I am obsessed with stripes.
I love all the art.
Yeah, the art is really cool too.
Everything is so nice.
I think it's going to take a while to get used to that this is our room.
This is crazy.
It's cool to see all the books properly displayed.
Yeah, you have such a cool collection.
This is awesome.
Thank you so much to the whole team.
Our pleasure.
Yay, guys.
That's awesome.
Thank you so much.
You're welcome.
Thanks for letting me put you in space.
Oh my goodness.
Thank you for having me.
Next up on AGTV, we are making over this living room.
We're bringing in molding.
How stunning does this look?
We're adding a little desk nook area.
I'm really excited for you guys to see the transformation.
Hit subscribe and ring the bell so you'll always get notified
when we upload next.
Thank you guys so much for watching.
I'll see you next time.
Bye.
He just said that he yawned.
I said that was the biggest yawn I've ever seen.
And he said, do you have that effect on people?
Obviously, it's funny because of how untrue it is.
So you think I'm funny?
Entertaining, yes.
You are a natural born entertainer.
No, stop.
Stop.
So we're going to start again.
Thank you.
This is why mom Amanda.
It's the freaking best.
Thank you.
Does this make you feel like a star?
No.
You guys are stars.
You must be because no one's fanning me.
I'm calling Noah and I'm going to ask him if we should get a pet stroller
and I'm going to pretend to be dead serious.
Quick question for you.
I'm at home sense and I'm wondering if I should get this for Boo.
No.
That's ridiculous.
No.
Goodbye.
This was Graham's idea.
He wanted to lift up the dresser while I was on it.
Okay, ready?
One.
You can do.
