This video highlights a series of dramatic and improbable moments across various sports, including a chaotic Minor League Baseball game with multiple ejections, a thrilling hurling penalty shootout, a heartbreaking own goal in a lacrosse championship, and a historic comeback in college softball.
Minor League Baseball gave us some drama that we have never really seen.
This episode of Things You Missed is brought to you by NHTSA.
A lot of things are about to happen.
We're in the ninth inning.
It's high A baseball.
It's a foul ball.
And then it's a ball.
It's a two run game in the ninth.
Another ball.
Three and one pitch.
Going to get a pitch to hit.
Take a big hack.
Does.
Misses.
And on the full count, they come up and in and the umpire says, foul ball.
Foul ball.
And the batter's like, if that was a foul ball, why does my arm hurt so bad?
Well, it feels a lot like it hit me and not my bat that I did not swing.
Coach, he's just ready to be mad because no way you got together and you decided that.
How do you guys miss that?
Why?
He got hit right in the freaking arm.
You did not see that.
God damn it.
How the **** do you miss that?
Stop.
I don't give a ****.
**** that.
You guys miss that.
Now both umps are just looking on, taking it in.
Unlike the hit by pitch that they did not watch.
Did not take.
You hit him right here.
Let's take a look at the replay.
Who had it?
Oh yeah.
It does look like it hits him in the arm.
Even the couple behind the umpire, they give the faces as if they knew.
Maybe he thought it hit the bat because they hit the pad.
So it didn't sound like flash.
It sounded like something different, but the guy in the field, how does he not know what's
going on?
Bam.
And now he's on the ground and he's crying and he's upset because he got hurt for no
reason and it hurts and he's a young kid and he's away from everything he knows.
Derek Jeter cried every night his first year of minor league baseball.
Moved to a foreign land and now they don't believe you when you get hit and you got to
go out there and swing.
A lot of emotions going on.
Trying to take deep breaths.
Trying to gather himself.
Just a lot of things.
Pitcher doesn't care.
He's got an S in the middle of his name.
It's pronounced Zach.
There's an S just hanging out in the middle.
He's dealt with worse.
Deep breaths.
Wipe the tears.
We're going to be okay.
Trainer's hair looks like an everyday thing.
It looks like he wakes up with his hair stuck like that.
Umpire says, thumbs up.
And this isn't a self-review.
It's just him asking the pitcher, are you good to go?
Anyway, the at-bat continues three and two and he goes up and in again, strikes him out.
The pitcher celebrates, starts jockeying down the track.
The catcher and the umpire are both telling him, dude, get back, get back.
And the hitter's like, what?
Now you're showing me up?
You hit me.
You made me sad.
And now you're showing me up.
Now everyone runs out.
And this catcher has to get really wrapped up for the Dragons.
I guess he's their top prospect or something.
So maybe he feels the need to protect everyone.
They really got to wrap them up.
So that pitch up and in, gets the strike out.
What does the pitcher say?
Let's take a look.
Throws it and then he goes, let's go.
Oh, **** yeah.
And then just jumps down, doesn't say anything else.
But he did go their direction.
He's like, wow.
No, it's not badder.
What do you say there?
Oh, it's nothing bad.
No, I think he says like, yeah, it's not at the badder.
Something like that.
I think he's trying to say, I'm not talking to you, but it looks bad.
Looked like he was showing him up because he went that direction.
Why would you go that direction?
I think the catcher got ejected because they were like, you're too hot and everyone gets
warnings and the pitcher gets ejected.
And the pitcher's like, what?
How did I get ejected?
And they're like, oh, okay, it's the ninth inning.
Let's calm everything down.
They bring a new pitcher in.
That's right.
This story, this saga is not over.
And we've already had so much.
They bring the new pitcher in and his first pitch, he drills the guy in the arm.
Warnings had just been given.
It's so heated.
I mean, this is the ninth inning.
He's not warmed up that pitcher.
He's coming in probably pretty cold, but the umpires got to get together.
And they're like, uh, I mean, you know, we did the warnings and all these like, you get
out, you're gone.
I have to see the umpires.
I have it.
Oh my God.
I just didn't warm up properly.
What are you?
Come on.
So he gets ejected.
It's a whole big thing.
Eventually, the pitchers and the players, they're all just hanging out, chatting, and
then that's it.
You missed it.
The monster under 20 hurling final came down to a penalty shootout, and we got ourselves
a hero in the keeper for Claire number one.
Look at this save.
So this is Tipperary County.
They are looking to three-peat versus Claire.
We already saw the first save.
He makes another in the penalty shootout.
He's just diving.
I think he also made a shot in this, and he's just saving everything.
They're pretty close range.
Look at the slither.
That's what it's called.
And just, I mean, that's on a line.
All right, so now here's the other goalie.
He's got to match him, and he does.
Not as hard of a save, but he matches him.
It's going to come down to a sudden death shootout, so it comes down to if Mark Sheedy
for County Claire makes the save, they win, and they advance.
If this is a goal, we go to another round.
And not only does he make the save, it's probably the most impressive of the bunch.
He saved three, all with the stick, all diving to his right.
Why didn't they test him the other way?
Oh, my God.
That ball, that slither, I'm sorry, gets pretty deep.
And just the last second flick of the hand of God, and he's fired up, and they advance.
And Tip, I have relatives in Tipperary County.
I've been there.
I visited.
They don't advance, and that's sad.
And thank you again to NHTSA for bringing you this episode.

The Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship was tied at 10 goals apiece with 55 seconds
remaining.
There's a bright sun shining down on the field.
Look at those shadows.
Look at that summer glow, golden hour, championship, passes it back to his keeper.
Oh, my God.
That is how they give up the lead.
He tried to pass it back to his keeper to reset things, and then the keeper fumbled
it, got blinded by the light, and it's an own goal.
Number two has it, and he's like just in the middle of the pile.
He's like, yo, take this, settle things, and then somehow it gets missed, and it goes
in for an own goal.
These two teams met up in the championship last year as well.
Grand Valley lost that one.
Now they've got the winning goal granted to them from St. Thomas, and that is going to
be the difference.
A brutal, brutal way to lose a championship game, and they're celebrating because they
earned all the other ten goals, we're guessing.
Texas Tech did something that had never been done before in college softball.
They're down eight runs in the seventh inning, which is the final inning, and they're doing
little jazz piano hands.
First runner is on, second runner out.
Second runner, second batter out.
Third batter comes up, one out, one on.
Strike one, strike two, eventually strike three, so two outs.
Ole Miss is one out away from winning, and they're up eight nothing.
They're up eight to one.
One run comes in, and now still down to their final out, and that one's put into play and
gets caught in the wind or something because it just goes out for a home run.
Eight to three now, and we've got secrets to share.
We've got whispers to say, hey, hey, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
Some tell, some sort of intel.
Next batter comes up, a little seeing eye single to third.
Another hopper off the glove.
We keep going, dee, dee, dee, dee, dee.
First and third, another ball in between third and short.
It's eight to four now.
Walk.
That loads the bases.
And now we've got a grand slam to tie it at eight apiece.
They're going absolutely insane.
They were down eight nothing.
They were down to their final out.
It was elimination time, basically, if they lost that.
I think it would have been pretty bad for their chances of advancing out of the round.
Now we go to the eighth.
They're down one again.
They've got runners on first and second, puts it up the middle.
A one run is going to score, so they tied the game.
They're pumped up.
They're celebrating.
Let's go.
We're going to do it.
De, de, de, de, de, de, de, pew.
And first and third again.
Nine, nine game.
We've got an out.
She tags up and wins it.
And they come back from down eight runs with one out to go.
They had two hits and no runs before the seventh inning.
It's been tried 640 times since 2000, and no team has ever come back down eight runs
in the last inning.
Unbelievable.
That's everything you missed that you never planned on watching.
Thank you very much for joining us and tuning in.
Appreciate you.
Go tell all your friends.
And remember, vote on your fan of the week.
I am lightheaded.
