The speaker shares a first-hand experience at the Leica headquarters for the unveiling of the Insta360 Luna Ultra. This new vlogging camera combines Leica's optical expertise with advanced features like 10-bit log recording, versatile zoom capabilities, and a detachable remote, aiming to provide professional-grade image and audio quality for solo creators.
So I was in Frankfurt a couple of days for something special. When Insta360 asked me
if I wanted to be part of the event at the Leica headquarters for the unveiling of the new
Luna series, I was honestly really excited. Now you may have already seen some early videos where
the camera was first revealed, but only a few features could be shown at a time. Now at this
event, we actually got to share a lot more on what this camera can do. So I got the chance to go
hands-on with it and test it from a real world vlogging perspective. Now it's not officially
out yet, but will be available pretty soon. So let me share a few things that make it stand out
as a vlogging camera. Now this camera uses Leica co-engineered optics and built-in Leica profiles,
so you get that signature Leica look in your videos. And you're actually looking at the image
quality right now, and you can judge it for yourself, but I think it looks pretty good.
Now the main lens is a one-inch sensor with a 1.8 aperture, and you can see the background blur,
which creates a nice separation between me and the background. And by having that background
blur, it just makes it even harder to distinguish between shooting on a smaller camera and a
mirrorless camera. Now what's really great is that the Luna Ultra supports 10-bit log with 14 stops
of dynamic range. And 10-bit log basically gives you a lot more color detail and dynamic range,
preserving the highlights and shadows better, and also giving you more flexibility when color
grading. And I've been waiting for so long for Insta360 to introduce log into their cameras,
and now it's finally here. Now another really cool feature that I can share with you
is the multi-zoom function capability of the Luna Ultra. So you get a 3x native optical zoom,
6x lossless zoom, and up to 12x maximum zoom. And this means when you physically can't get closer,
you can really make use of the zoom. Now here comes the coolest part that I can share with you
is that the Luna Ultra has a detachable remote controller. It also includes a screen allowing
you to live preview your shot. And it also doesn't lag at all. I can stand up to 20 meters away from
the camera. And this is especially great for solo creators filming themselves as you can adjust the
framing to your liking and also trigger recording from a distance. Now Insta360 took a step further
and added a built-in mic to this detachable remote controller. Now right now I'm filming
everything in 10-bit iLog as I prefer color grading my clips later on in my main editing
software. Now if you're unfamiliar with color grading or you don't want to spend time color
grading, the Luna also supports built-in Leica color profiles, which gives you that signature
Leica look baked into your videos. You can basically shoot and post it directly to social
media. So you get three different options. There's Leica Neutral, Leica Vivid, and Leica Chrome. And
by the way, you can still shoot in Log and still apply those Leica color profiles, keeping those
highlights and shadows preserved while still having some flexibility in post. It also supports
ACES workflow, which is a professional film color system. It just means your footage integrates
better into advanced editing setup if you go deeper into color grading. Now, by the way,
in terms of audio, you're listening to the Mic Pro, which they just recently launched,
and you can connect it directly to the Luna without needing a receiver. And what's great
is that you can use the transmitter as a standalone recorder, and it also records
32-bit float, which gives you more dynamic range and makes it much harder to distort your audio.
Now what's really cool, which I haven't seen other companies do, is that this mic has an
ink display, which means you can customize it with your own branding. And it only uses power
when refreshing the image to save battery. So right now I have a Smiley on it, but I can change
it to basically anything. And it also doesn't produce any glare when filming during the day,
which is great. It also uses three mic capsules that adapt to the direction the sound is coming
from and also allows you to trigger recording remotely. And like I say, in most of my videos,
audio is key when vlogging. And with the Luna, you get great image quality and audio quality
all in one setup. Now obviously there's a lot more we can talk about with the Luna Ultra,
because this camera is really featured packed. There's still a few things I can't share with
you guys. But yeah, once it's out, I can't wait to make more videos about this camera.
But overall, I think solo creators and vloggers are going to love this camera just because it
keeps things simple and convenient. And honestly, I feel like this is the future of cameras. Now I
want to thank Insta360 again for inviting me out. We really had a great time. The Luna launch was
really exciting and I got to meet a lot of other creators from Europe. Now guys, if you have any
questions, feel free to leave a comment below. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you
guys in the next one.
