If there is one makeup step that confuses almost everyone it's powder. Loose powder or compact
powder, translucent powder, banana powder, pink powder, green powder. There are so many options
that it can feel extremely overwhelming. A lot of people are unsure about which powder to choose,
which color works for their skin tone, whether they even need powder and how much powder is
actually enough. So in this video I'm going to break down everything about powders in the simplest
and most practical way possible. Whether you are completely new to makeup or someone who already
enjoys makeup but wants to perfect their base routine, this guide will help you understand
powders properly. As an actress, model and influencer who has worked on many shows, I've
learned that powder can completely change how your makeup fits on your skin. The right powder
can make your base look smooth and long-lasting but the wrong powder can make your skin look dry,
so let's understand powders step by step. There are mainly two types of powders you will see most
often. Loose powder and compact powder. Now loose powder usually comes in a jar and has a very fine
texture. It is often used to set concealer under the eyes or lightly set the entire face. Loose
powders usually give a softer and smoother finish. Compact powders also known as pressed powders are
easier to carry and are great for touch up during the day. Many people use loose powder when
putting their makeup at home and keep a compact powder in their bag for quick touch up. Both types
can work well depending on how you prefer to do your makeup. Now let's talk about something that
confuses a lot of people, the different powder colors. You may see translucent powders, banana
powders, pink powders and even green powders. A translucent powder is designed to set makeup
without changing the color of your foundation and banana powder has a yellow tone and is often
used to brighten the under eye area especially for medium to deeper skin tones. Pink powders are
sometimes used to brighten the under eye area for lighter to medium complexion that can give a soft
nice brightening effect. Green powders are designed to help neutralize redness in the skin because
but here is the important thing, you do not need every type of powder. This is where people often
get overwhelmed and confused. The goal is not to collect every color but to find one powder that
works well for your skin tone and your makeup look. Now how to choose the right powder? Choosing the
right powder depends mainly on your skin type and how your makeup behaves during the day.
If your skin is dry you should use powder very lightly because too much powder can make the skin
look wavy or textured. In that case you may only want to set areas like the under eyes or around
the nose. If your skin is oily, powder can help control shine and keep your makeup looking fresh
for longer. But even with oily skin it is still important to use powder moderately so the skin
still looks natural. Makeup should enhance the skin not completely mask it. If you're looking
for good affordable powders there are some excellent options in drugstore brands. The
Maybelline pretty loose powder is extremely popular and widely used by makeup artists.
It has a very fine texture and works beautifully for setting the under eye area.
Another good option from Maybelline is their compact powder which works well for quick touch-ups
These powders are affordable, easy to wear and great for everyday makeup.
If you want a brightening effect under the eyes certain powders are designed specially for that.
For example Huda Beauty's baby powder is well known for setting and brightening the under eye area
keeping the finish smooth. Brightening powders can help make the under eye area look more lifted and
fresh. But again it's important to use only a small amount because too much powder can make the
area look cakey and heavy as well. Another powder many people enjoy is the K-beauty loose powder by
Katina Kev's brand. It has a soft texture and gives a very natural finish on skin but no matter which
brand you choose the most important thing is always how the powder looks and feels on your skin.
Sometimes an expensive powder may not suit your skin type while an affordable one may work perfectly.
So always pay attention to how your skin responds to the product.
Now how much powder is too much powder? One of the biggest mistake people make with powder is using
too much powder. If your skin starts looking overly matte, dry or textured that usually means too much
powder has been applied. The goal is to lightly set the makeup while still allowing the skin to
look natural and fresh. A small amount of powder applied strategically can make a huge difference
and that was your complete beginner friendly guide to powders and setting powders. If you're
