Jerry's Restaurant | The Last Location | Paris, Kentucky

Bonjour, mon ami! And welcome. Today, we are here in Paris, Kentucky. We just visited the local Eiffel Tower and we are getting ready to take you guys along with us to the last remaining location of a restaurant that was once a franchise restaurant throughout the entire state of Kentucky. We've never been here before, but we read online that it's very similar to Frisch's Big Boy, which we have been to many times. In fact, we passed an active Frisch's Big Boy in Northern Kentucky just yesterday or two days ago. We almost stopped for a Frisch's Big Boy sandwich, but we decided to stop in here because they have something that's very similar and they have a lot of sides on their menu. So we've never tried it before, but we're trying the last location. We're taking you guys along with us to Jerry's. Alright, here is a look at the menu. Here are the appetizers. Down here are the salads. Here we have the gourmet burgers, sandwiches, drinks. They do have steak, chicken, grilled offerings, Italian specialties, seafood. Here are the local favorites. Down here are the senior citizen options. And look at all of these sides to choose from. And they do have their famous Kentucky Hot Browns as an offering. And going back here, looking at the J-Boy, that is kind of like the Frisch's Big Boy, their version of it. And up here you can see that you can make anything a plate by adding coleslaw and a choice of fries for $4.19. Here is a look at the dessert menu. Down here they have the hot fudge cake, which we will definitely be sharing at the very end here. It's two layers of moist chocolate cake filled with vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge whipped topping and a cherry. They also have cheesecake, chocolate thunder, pie of the day, milkshakes, ice cream cone, fruit cobbler, and a chocolate chip cookie sundae. But we are here for this. So, you can get different kinds of tea here. How about that? You can get unsweet, sweet, raspberry, which is what I got, and peach, and hot tea. And I got the raspberry sweet tea and it is so good. It is really, really great for a summer drink and just enough sweetness, enough tea, love it. And I love the ice that they have here. They do serve Pepsi products, but the type of ice, it's the same type of ice that you got at Frisch's Big Boy. I'm already a fan. So, they've already brought out my coleslaw since I got the plate with the J-Boy burger. And right away, they brought it with some Lance's Captain Wafers, which are the best. I know the boys want some, so I'm going to pass some out to them. But take a look at that coleslaw. I can already tell it's going to be the type I like, and by the smell of it, I can tell it's going to be really good. But let's see how it tastes. I absolutely love that. It's got a good crunch to it, it's got that sweetness, but it's also got a little bit of that zestiness at the back end as well. Just a really good coleslaw. It's finely chopped, and again, I like mine a little sweet. And that is just wonderful. Very similar to KFC. I always say, I know KFC is fast food, but I'm always looking for something that kind of parallels KFC, because it's just good coleslaw. And this is right within that same realm of coleslaw. All right, going around the table here, Gentry got the hot brown with green beans and macaroni, and Henry got a cheeseburger with corn. And Jennifer, what did you order? I got the open-faced pot roast, and yum, that looks so good. And it comes with two sides and a roller for bread. So I got the scalloped potatoes. Here's this, baby. Oh, thank you. Thank you so much. You're very welcome. All right, what did we just add here? That is relish for my beans. Okay. But I got, this is their brown beans, and I think it's pinto beans. And then cornbread. And then I got relish for the beans. And I don't know if I said it or not, but scalloped potatoes, and those look like homemade from when I was growing up. Those look really good. Yours look good, too. Yeah, and so I ended up getting the J-Boy sandwich with the steak fries. So I'm going to dig into this pot roast. This looks so good. It's like gravy. Those are some thick pieces of Texas toast, too. That's one thing that stands out to me when I'm looking at that. It looks so good and hot. Hot, steamed, fresh. And the baby carrots. Looks just like what we cook at home, huh? It sure does. I'm really impressed with your scalloped potatoes. Those just look really good. That looks like the ones that my mom made when we were growing up. And these potatoes, not what I envision when I think of the steak fries. I think of something flat, but these are like potato wedges. They look delicious. Even better. Alright, so I've built me a bite here with everything on it. Oh man, this smells so good. It's really good. That is a really good diner pot roast. So good. And Brent, his family calls these hot shots. It is like a hot shot. Yeah, but normally you would put your piece of bread, and then mashed potatoes, and then the same stuff on top there, the roast and the gravy. And if you've got carrots, put that on there, too. That's what's missing to make it a hot shot is the mashed potatoes. Yeah. Instead you've got the carrots. And it could have gotten mashed potatoes, but... I mean, who serves scalloped potatoes on their menu? They've got so many sides. I was gonna say, you haven't tasted those, but just by the looks alone, they look really good. Yeah. Looks can sometimes be deceiving. That looks like they did a roux and made a cheese sauce, and the potatoes, I can tell you, are already pork tender. Not mushy. Everything came out piping hot, by the way. Did you see the steam? Oh yeah. Underneath all that Mornay's sauce, Gentry's finally made it to the meat, and you can see it down there. It's hard to beat a hot brown when you've been to the Brown Hotel and tried the original hot brown, which is amazing. We'll put a link to that video in the description below. It's hard to beat that, but that one looks pretty good. Yeah, man. Okay, this smells like homemade relish, like chow chow. Oh man, it smells so good. So these are, in fact, pinto beans. Just kind of stir them up just to see. Or some people call them sweet beans. This was a staple in our house. We had these in the crock pot all the time. I'm going to try them without the sauce first. Yep. So good. You can tell there's like, put your ham in there. Or ham hock. And these were cooked perfectly. And there's, I just got a bite of the ham in there. So good. I can't wait to try this relish. That looks good. It smells so good, and it's got like little seeds and stuff in there. Let's get us a little pinch of cornbread, too. All right, so here we go. Steak fries, which are basically potato wedges again. They look just like the ones I got from IGA years ago. And good crunch on the outside from baking it. But let's see how it tastes. Those look like the ones I remember from Bonanza, too. Remember the buffet ones? It's a good thick potato. There's no seasoning or anything on them. I am going to put some ketchup onto my plate because I think it would really enhance it. It's just a plain potato. Nothing great, but it's also cooked well. You can possibly overcook these, and they get crunchy and just, there's not a lot of potato to it. There's a whole lot of potato in these potato wedges. So I am a fan of that. I am going to take my pickles out. I like pickles, but I don't like pickles on my Fish's Big Boy sandwich. And I really want to get that good comparison of right here you can see the special sauce which is probably like a tartar sauce like Fish's Big Boy. Then you have a hamburger patty. And you have another piece of bread. Another hamburger patty. And then some cheese. There's no tartar sauce on the top. But because the tartar sauce is at the bottom one of the first things that's going to kick your taste buds, I would assume, would be that special sauce which is kind of like a tartar sauce is what it looks like and smells like. Here we go. First bite of the J Burger. It's very similar to a Fish's Big Boy sandwich. Very similar. I'd like a little bit more of the sauce on there. Maybe just a little dab on the top. Just to give it a little bit more moisture with all the bread. But other than that, it's a pretty outstanding sandwich. Takes me right back to Fish's Big Boy when I bit into this. If you said this was a Fish's Big Boy other than the sesame seed bun that's the only thing that throws me off that it's not a Fish's Big Boy. I don't recall sesame seed buns on Fish's Big Boy sandwiches but it's pretty much one and the same identical. Great sandwich. Coleslaw's great. Potato wedges. Just potato wedges but it's going to pair really well with ketchup. Last Jerry's. The last remaining Jerry's. We're here right now and highly recommend stopping here for a burger. Everybody else is enjoying their meal. It's almost gone. In fact, Henry's is gone. How was your hamburger? And the buttered corn? You're excited about that, huh? So we're going to finish eating our meal and we'll tell you what we think here in just a moment but we're actually going to have dessert afterwards. We're going to share some dessert so before that, hang tight for dessert. Alright, here's Jennifer's first bite of the chocolate fudge cake which comes with ice cream. That is so good. It's very rich so definitely a share. It's so good. It's like the warm cake and the hot fudge and then the cold ice cream. So good. Alright, got a lot of hot fudge on there, a lot of cake on there, a lot of ice cream on there. Here we go. The cake is very moist. The fudge is wonderful. The ice cream just tops it off. Outstanding. And the final bill after tax and before tip came out to a total of $62.67. Alright everybody, that was Jerry's Restaurant. Henry, what did you think? The cheesecake was not bad. The dessert was delicious and I really liked the Sprite and also I really liked the corn. Alright, and Gentry. I really liked the food here. The sweet tea was really good especially the ice. It just had a cool shape. It was really good ice. Your hot brown was good? Hot brown was pretty good. I gotta say I tried to split it with y'all but y'all didn't want any. We couldn't even eat our own food. The small, I don't know what the large would be like but the small was just enough. Mac and cheese was really good. I love mac and cheese and the green beans as well. That was really good. Alright, and Jennifer. Everything was fabulous and shout out to Brooke, our server. Thank you so much for your awesome service and everybody here is really nice and the food is amazing here. I really like the relish that came with the beans if you get that with any side. Mix that in your beans and put some of that cornbread in there. The pot roast was delicious and the scalloped potatoes Henry kept on sneaking those. He liked my whole meal. Is that true? He actually liked everything that I had so I was glad to share it with him because I couldn't eat it all. The hot fudge sundae topped it off and I have to say sweet tea alert the raspberry tea was fabulous as well. And I have to say I absolutely enjoyed this meal just the same as everybody else. The only thing that was average middle of the road were the potato wedges but fries don't typically have seasoning on them. That's always an extra plus if they do have seasoning and some people might not like seasoning on theirs. I do, but I also like ketchup on them so they were pretty good. Some malt vinegar would have been really good with those but when it comes to the coleslaw perfect, it's right in that category like AFC, that's my personal preference personal favorite and then the J Burger The J Burger was almost identical to a Frisch's Big Boy Sandwich just delicious outstanding service was excellent oh the dessert was amazing too definitely have to get the dessert I made sure deliberately to only eat one potato wedge I ate about half of my burger our hotel is so far away from here we couldn't reheat it up anyway so unfortunately we can't take to go boxes for this meal but I deliberately tried not to eat a whole lot because this is only our second meal today we had kind of a breakfast slash lunch at Great American Ballpark all bundled into one and then this is our second meal but I definitely wanted to get a couple of bites of that dessert and it was well worth it but guys gotta come here to the last Jerry's Restaurant not only in Kentucky but in the world and we thank you so much for joining us here at Jerry's Restaurant in Paris and we sure to look forward to seeing you on the next episode of Every Day is Saturday
