Well, this morning, a near collision between a JetBlue passenger plane and a small aircraft in disguise is now under investigation.
The close call happened near one of the nation's busiest airports in Florida.
ABC's Matt Rivers is following the latest.
This morning, the FAA is investigating after a midair scare in Florida,
after a JetBlue flight got dangerously close to a small plane that allegedly wasn't communicating with air traffic controllers.
JetBlue 1256 was flying from Ecuador to Fort Lauderdale Monday night,
when minutes before landing, air traffic control told the pilot another smaller plane, a Beechcraft Duchess, was nearby.
Alerts going off in the cockpit of that JetBlue plane.
According to Flightradar24 data, the two planes were 1.63 miles apart horizontally and 500 feet vertically.
The FAA saying in a statement, the required separation was maintained.
The Beechcraft Duchess is registered to Sun City Aviation, a Florida pilot training academy.
They told ABC Miami they were not doing anything wrong, saying,
we were doing everything legally that we were capable of.
The controller was understandably uncomfortable here because he wasn't able to talk to the light aircraft.
The light aircraft was moving around in ways that he had a hard time keeping it separated from the JetBlue aircraft.
So again, the FAA saying here that the required distance was in fact maintained, but still a bit too close for comfort.
