In today's video, my England trip continues.
And rather than just giving some British friends and family Taiwanese foods to try...
In this video, I share a day in the life of our family, the cooks.
And as mentioned in the title, I surprise my parents with a life-changing gift.
All will be revealed throughout the video, so make sure to watch to the very end.
And of course, like, share and subscribe to the channel
to see more of my travel here in the beautiful country of England.
But first things first, let's start the video here with my mum.
Say hi.
Hi.
And my dad.
Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the way.
Where are we?
Northwest of England.
Yeah, we are in the northwest of England at my hometown.
And I'm going to be bringing you lots of videos this week of my life here in England.
Starting today, where are we going mum?
List card.
What are we doing?
Spending money.
Yeah, we're going to go shopping, pick up some bits, some errands to run.
And I just want to share my life in England with you guys.
So yeah, time to get in the car.
Dad's going to drive us to list card.
And we'll see what's going on.
Spend some of my money.
Yes, as is usual for dads all over the world,
my dad loves complaining about spending money.
But he and my mum have no idea that the only reason we are driving out today
is so that their life-changing gift can be delivered before we get home.
Exciting stuff, right?
I've been actually getting stuff for my mum's birthday as well.
Yes, my dad is talking about the fact that we are also going to be buying party supplies
for my nan's 90th birthday party,
which will also be featured in an upcoming video on the channel.
So look out for that coming soon.
But first, on the way to the shopping centre,
we stopped off for a quick visit to the shore
and to show you some beautiful local British scenery.
Okay, so we've stopped off on the way to list card here at Liso Bay,
which is about a five-minute drive from my house.
And this is the local beach.
I'm not sure if you can hear me.
But I guess if I was to compare this place to somewhere in Taiwan,
it'd be a little bit similar to Dajia Beach on the west coast.
A very beautiful beach, but not really used as a holiday resort.
England does have holiday resorts in the south,
like in Bournemouth and Cornwall.
But this is just a coastal town, a little bit windy.
And we've come here to take a family photo.
We're going to take a family photo with your favourite.
Okay.
All right.
There's nothing more I like to do than wind up my sister
So we're going to take a photo after three, ready?
Two, three.
You have to do the piece like this, the Taiwan style.
Three, two, one.
Okay, let's go shopping.
Mum, you're going to have to explain to everyone
why you're sitting in the back and I'm in the front
because they'll kick off otherwise.
I'm sitting in the back because Alan's legs are too long for the back of the car.
Yeah.
And I've only got little legs.
And I'm a mummy's boy, right?
And I always get my way.
Yeah, and he's spoiled rotten.
That's a Taiwanese expression, mum.
They call it a Mao Bao.
Yeah, he's a Mao Bao.
Definitely.
Do you want to explain why I'm in the front as well?
I mean, dad wants to explain why he's in the front.
Why are you sitting there, dad?
I'm in the front because someone's got to drive it.
So yes, scenic stop at the beach and sarcastic dad jokes over and done with.
We soon enough arrived at the local shopping centre.
And as it had been at least an hour since I'd last eaten,
it was time to find some traditional British food for me to eat.
A jumbo steak, please.
And two sausage rolls, please.
Yes, thanks.
Okay, so it's been about an hour since my Sunday roast dinner that my mum made for me today.
The hunger kicks in much quicker in England when there's so many delicious things to eat.
And this is what's known as a pasty.
Look at that.
A pasty.
I cannot compare this to anything in Taiwan.
It's like a hot flat pie.
Sounds about right, doesn't it?
Yeah.
It's got like a meaty steak and gravy filling.
Like a crunchy crispy pastry on the outside.
And this costs one pound.
40 or 35 NT dollars.
And the next snack, which looks a bit similar.
This is what's called a sausage roll.
The closest thing to this would be a 7-Eleven hot dog.
But the hot dogs are completely different to a sausage roll.
The same pastry on the outside is the pasty.
But inside is like a pork sausage meat with spices.
And this sausage roll is two for a pound.
So one, you're looking at around 20 NT for one steaming hot crunchy crispy sausage roll.
Okay, let's continue shopping.
The reason we've come into here is to pick up some of these sweets.
Back to the 80s.
Now these are sweets that were popular when I was a lad.
When I was born in 1982.
So these sweets are like retro, very popular, very reminiscent of my childhood.
And what I do is I buy a couple of jars of these and take them back.
Even though I'm not a teacher, I still go and deliver them to my old school in Taichung.
And the kids really appreciate it every time I come back from England to Taiwan.
Bye bye love.
So dad, how often do you go to Poundland?
As little as possible.
I got some gifts from Poundland to send out to Patreons and VIPs.
I'm pretty sure there's a pub around here.
It's been a few hours.
Can we go and have a beer?
Can have a beer, do you want one here?
It certainly was almost pub time for me, my mum and dad.
But first it was time for a very important job.
Picking the champagne for my nan's 90th birthday party.
And we need to figure out...
How many people are coming dad?
30 people.
So 25 bottles of champagne.
Six bottles of bubbly purchased and soon enough it was pub time.
Especially because I still hadn't received confirmation that their surprise had arrived.
So we had a little time to kill in an hour family.
That means time for a beer.
Ah, here we are in the pub.
This is very civilised.
Cheers.
Kampai.
Cheers.
Kampai.
Right, scratch card time.
Two unsuccessful minutes later, my dad came to an unfortunate realisation.
Looks like we've got to work another week.
But luckily for them it was time to walk home as their surprise had been delivered.
And as we turned the corner my mum and dad were very confused at these boxes outside of their house.
Sarah, is that yours?
That's it.
It's yours?
Did you order that?
No, are you coming back home now?
Okay, well the surprise has been revealed.
I've been in touch with Emma Mattresses.
Have you seen these on the telly?
Yeah.
Well mum, you were telling me you've got a bad shoulder.
And how long have you had your mattress for upstairs?
10, 15 years.
I think my parents' mattress is as old as my life in Taiwan.
So when I heard that my mum had a dodgy shoulder and she was having trouble sleeping,
I got in touch with Emma Mattresses and asked if there's anything they can do.
And they've sent you one of their deluxe.
Thank you very much.
Thank you, Emma.
Yeah.
Aren't you wonderful?
She's not a bad bird.
So they've sent it to me for free, I have to say that.
But also you have a will to send it back.
They've got like a 100-day return guarantee.
So if you don't like it, you can say you don't like it.
So don't feel like you have to be pressured into anything.
They've also sent me four pillows and a mattress protector.
I'm going to take two pillows back to Taiwan and try them on myself.
But yeah, we're going to get it upstairs and get it set up.
Lovely.
It's not bad having a YouTuber as a son sometimes, is it?
Oh no, it's all right, really.
So yes, delivered from Germany in this very convenient and manageable box,
Emma is one of the top mattress brands in Europe,
having received more than 40 awards worldwide.
And it's available for delivery in Taiwan,
as well as many countries around the world.
And as you can see, I had no problem getting it upstairs
and into my parents' bedroom, ready for replacing their current mattress.
And being the wonderful filial son that I am,
while they're downstairs watching TV,
I'm going to do my best on my own to get this old 15-year mattress
out of here into recycling and get this Emma mattress
and two new pillows ready, set up for them to have a perfect night's sleep.
And of course, once it's all done and set up,
we'll get my mum and dad up here and see what they think of their new Emma mattress.
What a perfect son that I am.
Right, time to get to work.
These pillows have seen better days.
Oh my goodness.
Listen to that.
It's soft, but I think that's a problem for my mum.
A bit too soft, no support.
So let's get it out of here.
Mind your chandeliers.
Oh crikey.
What a perfect son I am.
Mum?
I think my mum is sunbathing in the garden.
There she is, sunbathing while I'm working hard.
Mum?
Do you want to come and see the fun part?
This is actually my old bedroom that my nephew George now uses.
I threw that old mattress down the stairs and it got stuck.
It's not in yet.
I'm just going to...
I want you to see the part where it opens up.
It says on the instructions that this is one person can do it.
So I'm putting that to the test.
Yes, it does just peel open,
but a much smarter way to open the plastic wrapping
is to use this very handy tool provided by Emma inside the box
that I had completely missed as I'd opened the box upside down.
Do you reckon this is going to just go boing?
And like throw me dad into the wardrobe.
Is it the right size?
It is, fabulous.
Another benefit of the Emma mattress is the removable and washable cover
that when opened reveals the layers of ergonomic foam
that support you in the places most needed.
Especially good for my mum's dodgy shoulder.
And also that removable cover is made from breathable fabric,
meaning my mum and dad will also have some light relief
from the UK's current heat wave.
And also included in the delivery was this breathable mattress protector
that can be removed super easily due to the durable elastic banding
that remind my dad of something very personal to him.
And let's not forget one of the most often overlooked items
when it comes to dealing with sleeping problems due to shoulder pain,
high quality foam pillows.
My dad seemed to love his pillow a little bit too much,
but soon enough it was time to jump on the new Emma mattress and try it out.
No, no, it feels better than your old one.
Oh, come on.
My mum's speechless.
She's just scared.
She thinks my mum's going to cry.
It does feel gorgeous, doesn't it?
Thank you, sunshine.
Thanks to Emma.
Thank you, Emma.
One good thing about it, it's breathable
and we've had a hot spell in England at the moment.
Yeah, yeah.
So we don't really have air conditioning at night.
No, we don't, no.
I don't even feel as if you're on a pillow, do you?
The final benefit of this mattress is its stability,
allowing a peaceful night's sleep even if your partner likes to roll around.
And while I have seen some people testing this with a glass of water,
my dad had the idea of trying a beer instead.
Oh, I need to get up and have another wee.
It didn't even move at all.
Even if there was an accident and the beer had spilled,
the mattress protector is waterproof, so no problem at all.
So after giving my dad his reward for taking part in the video,
it was time for my nephew George's birthday party.
We're gonna sing him happy birthday when he comes in.
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.
So lots of birthday hugs and love for George.
And for his gift, I gave him 500 MT, but then gave him a choice.
You can choose, right?
You can have 500 MT or you can have £10, what do you want?
No, I'll take this one.
But after hearing about the new mattress, the kids wanted to run upstairs and test it.
It's like Nan's pillow, the memory foam pillow that I love.
Oh, I love it.
So after the mattress had passed the full family test,
George's birthday party continued and as he had chosen,
we had a KFC for dinner, of course, watch some Life in Taiwan videos.
And jumped into the hot tub and just enjoyed some quality family time together,
which according to my sister is jump-scaring me into the middle of next week.
Thanks for that, Lorne.
But back to the video topic and that life-changing gift,
it was time to check in with my mum after her first few days on her new mattress.
Morning, mum.
Morning.
Three days later, three nights on your new mattress.
How is it?
It's fabulous. I've slept really well.
Can't tell you how. My shoulder feels great as well.
Didn't your watch capture how many hours you slept?
It did.
What was the first night?
Eight hours.
How much hours is it usually?
Between four, five.
The next night, nine hours.
And last night was, let me just have a look, nine hours, ten minutes.
Life-changing. Really, really makes me sleep well.
Nice. Cool. Now, what are we having for lunch?
Eggie bread.
Hearing how happy my mum was with this gift

Lunch finished and sitting here on the stairs
where my own personal Emma pillows are waiting for me to take them all the way back to Taiwan.
So this video is very quickly going to move across the world to my apartment here in Taiwan.
I've arrived home and I've got my trusty already unboxed Emma pillows,
which I've been using for the past few days.
And I have to say, I agree with my mum when I say they are life-changing.
I can't believe at 40 years old,
it's the first time I've actually had high-quality memory foam style pillows.
But as for now, time for me to wrap this video up.
Don't worry, I still have lots of videos coming from the UK.
So don't forget to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already.
But as for now, time for me to say thanks to Emma for helping me change my mum and dad's life.
And thanks to you guys for watching.
But as for now and as always, I'll see you next time in my life in Taiwan.
Peace.
