Hello, everybody, welcome back to the channel.
My name is Alan.
This is my life in Taiwan and a very big Happy New Year 2022.
The first video of the year is here.
I hope everybody had a Happy New Year celebrations.
And of course, let's hope that the rest of 2022 goes much more swimmingly
than the previous couple of years we've had.
But talking of previous years, today's video is going to be an analytics video
where I take a look at my YouTube analytics to see how many views,
how many subscribers and most importantly, how much money did my YouTube channel
bring in for me over the past 12 months?
So let's waste no time at all and get straight into my YouTube dashboard.
And here in the dashboard is where I can see all of the numbers of viewers
and money and subscribers and watch time.
So many analytics, probably too many for me to take you through all of them.
So what I'm going to try and do
is take you through some of the most important ones,
starting with the previous year, 2020.
I've already done a video on this, I think last year.
But just as a reminder, we can take a look here
and we can see that my YouTube income alone was $11,194.87 exactly.
And if you want to see how much I made for 2021
and see if I made more or less than this $11,000,
please make sure you watch for the entirety of the video
as I'm not going to be hiding anything.
I'm just going to go through a few more facts and figures
before we get to that big number of how much I made last year.
Hopefully it's a big number.
But that's 2020.
This video is going to be all about 2021's performance.
And one of the most important things with a YouTube channel is the audience.
No audience watching the videos, then there really is no YouTube channel.
So what I want to do is share with you guys who you are
and of course, how many new followers I got during the last year.
And we can see very clearly here for 2021,
my channel increased by 35.6 thousand subscribers.
That's about 3000 a month, which is about my average.
Usually maybe a little bit slower than 2020.
I think in 2020, I added 50,000 subscribers and you can see there.
It tells me that's down from 45 percent compared to the previous year.
I think that's kind of natural unless I'm doing something incredibly new
or different, then growth is going to be harder to achieve on YouTube.
But I'm pretty happy that there's 35,000 new followers
following the channel and contributing to the views.
And one thing I always like to share with you guys is where you come from.
And still 85.2 percent of my followers are from Taiwan.
And then the next few countries are United States, Hong Kong,
Canada, Canada, Canada and Malaysia.
So even my home country of the UK is not in the top five or six.
Let's see. Where does the UK come in?
The UK comes in with 0.8 percent of my channel's viewers.
I would hope for more, but it is what it is.
So I'm happy to have several thousand of you from the UK.
Another really interesting fact when it comes to the people who watch my videos
is that 62 percent of people are not subscribed to the channel.
This drives YouTubers crazy, or at least we just don't understand
why when subscribing is free, there's no reason not to subscribe.
If you're obviously watching the videos,
then I would like to know why people don't subscribe.
Maybe some people don't have a YouTube or Google account,
which is probably the large percentage of it.
Or some people just don't want to subscribe to different channels
and have their feed flooded with videos they're not interested in.
Whatever the reason is, if you want to subscribe to the channel,
I would be very much appreciative.
It really does help the channel out.
It helps me find sponsored videos much easier if my subscriber number is higher.
So it would really be helping me out if you subscribe to the channel.
And if you enjoy this kind of content, hitting the like button
and letting me know that this kind of video is of interest to you guys.
Now, let's take a look at my top 10 videos during 2021,
see which videos performed better than others.
And if we go to the top 10,
the top 10 was where I interviewed the Hong Kong police officer
that's actually been taken off the channel now because of girlfriend,
ex-girlfriend reasons, she was in the video and didn't like it.
Why the Taiwanese government won't give me an ID or a passport.
All of these videos are over 150,000 views,
which for me is an absolutely amazing performance on a video.
Josh at number four with his really interesting story
and his really interesting views on the differences between America and Taiwan.
Then my vaccine.
Of course, anything related to Covid is going to be really popular.
Are Taiwanese people honest?
Where I lost my camera and Ku helped to get it back for me.
My second best performing video of the year.
And then my number one top performing video of 2021
was filmed in March 2020.
My UK family first time drinking Taiwanese booze is still doing better
than any other video I put out in the past year
or almost two years since publishing it 315,000 views.
Let's take a look at exactly how much money that video earned me.
If we just look at 2021 for this one video that I filmed in March 2020,
you can see it garnered 608 US dollars.
And I think in total it's generated almost 2000 dollars of income,
which for me is absolutely amazing.
It's hit over a million views.
Seeing my family in a video that gets over a million views
is really touching to know that my grandmother was so popular.
My family's reaction to Taiwanese booze.
It's like the merging of two cultures, the culture where I grew up
and the culture where I became a real adult, I would say.
Anything revolving around the two cultures being successful
makes me really, really happy.
One other thing that really matters now more than ever on YouTube
is what's called the engagement rate.
And this is how much time people spend watching each video.
And if we take a look here for the whole year,
513,000 hours of content were watched on my channel.
And that's up by 12% compared to 2020.
That means I'm either making more videos, which I did.
I think I made about 10% more videos.
But also the content I'm making is connecting to people a little bit better.
Maybe my videos can be a little bit longer and hold people's attention.
And here we can see the average view duration is four minutes, 56.
But we are getting closer and closer to that final number of how much money
I've made, because here we can see for the year 2021,
my total views for the channel is 6.2 million.
Incredibly happy that all of you guys have supported me throughout the year
and watch my videos six million times.
My ultimate goal, I guess, for this year will be to get that number up
closer to seven, eight million views.
And that's my responsibility.
I hope to be making videos that are more attractive to people,
get more recommendations from YouTube and just perform better
so that the income that you're about to see can be boosted compared to next year.
So let's get to it.
Let's get to that interesting financial report.
And as I did last year, I'll break it down with you
and share exactly how much I made in each month.
January. Twelve hundred and fourteen dollars.
February. Two thousand and sixty dollars.
March 2021. Fifteen hundred and forty four dollars.
April. A little bit slower at nine hundred and four dollars.
May. Thirteen hundred and seventy five.
June. Eight hundred and forty nine.
July. One thousand three hundred and ninety six.
August. One thousand five hundred ninety one.
September. Eight hundred and twenty eight dollars
from just four videos in that month.
October. Nine videos.
More productive and more money.
Seventeen hundred and sixty two dollars.
November. Just eight hundred and eighty three dollars.
And December. One thousand and eighty two dollars.
Which, if we go to 2021 on the whole, adds up to a grand total
of fifteen thousand four hundred and ninety three dollars,
which I know many of you are going to say, Alan, it's not a good enough income.
It's not enough to support a family.
But as I've said many times before in these analytics videos,
this doesn't include sponsored videos.
This is, in fact, not my main revenue stream in 2021.
I think I had 15 sponsored videos which do pay a little bit more than the income
that I get from the YouTube ad revenue.
And unfortunately, the contracts in each case mean that I can't discuss how much I
get paid, but it is a considerable amount more than I make from the YouTube ad
revenue. So please don't worry about me.
I'm still earning a good enough salary.
It's increasing in 2020.
Eleven thousand dollars in 2021.
Fifteen thousand dollars.
And of course, the sponsored income did increase as well.
But I just want to let you know that I'm comfortable.
I'm happy. I'm making money, saving money, sending money to William.
I know many of you care about my future and my lifestyle.
So please don't worry.
I'm doing OK. I just really want to make this video for anyone that's interested
to know how your views affect my channel.
Always watching the ads for 30 seconds is the best thing you can do for supporting
my ad revenue. If you want to join the channel memberships and get early access
to videos, then by all means, there's a join button underneath this video.
And I also have Patreon where you can go and support me if you want to.
But I think that's it. That's everything I wanted to share with you.
I want to be nice and honest and transparent, get a video out to you, connect
with you guys a little bit and just let you see how your views affect the channel.
I really want to thank everyone who watched even one of my videos last year.
And of course, an extra special thanks to those of you that watch every single
episode. You guys really help me keep going and help me keep thinking of ideas
to create for you. If you have any ideas of videos you'd like to make me see,
then by all means, use the comment section down below.
Or, of course, just wish me a happy new year.
That will also be very much appreciated.
As for now and as always, time to say goodbye.
So I'll see you next time in my life in Taiwan.
Peace. Bye bye.
