Chicago's Best Viewer's Choice #2: San Soo Gab San

So the viewers have spoken and they've spoken loudly and they said Teddy you have to go to Lincoln Square and you have to go to Sansu Gapsan. Say that three times. Good luck. It's a Korean barbecue joint. I know two things about this place. Open for lunch all the way to 5 a.m. Number two, you barbecue your own food which means I could be screwed. Most of us grill outside. Here it's inside at your table and you're the cook so no excuses people. Here's how it works. Order a meat to cook. They bring the perfectly marinated choice along with 20 plus side dishes for one price. So even the most discerning patrons are satisfied. Koreans are very picky about their food right? Yeah they are very. Not too salty, not too sour. You have to be right in the middle. Right. So you've got that. You've got that down. Yes. So all the Koreans in Chicago know that this place is the place to go. Yes. All right tell the truth. What about the Americans? Do they care as much? Oh not really. They just want to eat a lot of food right? Right. They're just excited as soon as we see the 20-30 side dishes. Yeah. Oh my god. Right. Because the more the better because we live in a gluttonous society. Overindulgence is unavoidable here. No matter where you're from it's that good. This is the real deal. This is my favorite Korean barbecue place in all of Chicago. And we know it's real because he's Korean and I've been to many times so that's why it's up here. Is this true? He said it all right there. That is true. So where do I begin? The kalbi? Thinly sliced short rib meat? How about the bulgogi? Or the baby octopus? And which of the numerous side dishes do I try? I'll leave it up to the boss lady. Try everything. It's all good. I don't, I cannot say just one you know. After my own heart. Try everything. All right it's go time. It's also party time at this place. It's open until 5 a.m and things really heat up late. I'm Ted. Hi girls. Who said smoking was bad for you huh? If you're looking for an intimate setting forget it. Sansugapsan is a wild backyard barbecue but year-round and inside. Why is this place so great? It's very communal. It brings friends together and you have to actually cook your own meal and people don't know what they're eating and it sparks an extra conversation about that and it's an experience that you won't necessarily get anywhere else. No argument here. Now you will smell like you slept inside the Yeah. You like it? I like it. I'm willing to bet that you'll like it too whether it's 5 p.m or 5 a.m. Do you have a better place?
