It doesn't even have a carburetor!
Okay y'all, I bought a truck. Guy told me it runs. I don't believe him. Right here it is.
He says it's a 66 Chevrolet. Have not looked. Don't know. Says it runs. Don't know.
It's pretty rough ain't it? It ain't that bad really, to be honest about it. I can fix it.
So 66 Chevrolet. Got a good grill. Got a good bumper. The thing that surprises me
is usually right here is gone. Right there is gone. So what I have done y'all,
I've got a start switch okay. I hooked it to the hot wire down there on the starter.
Hooked it to the start side of the starter okay. Now I can hit this button.
Check the oil. Oil's good. Carburetor is missing. So there's my carburetor.
I think that my starter, I mean my battery's weak. I'm not sure but I got that. I'm gonna hook that
up to it and when I throw juice to it, I got this here. This is an extension cord. I'm gonna run.
Obviously I don't have the key to the thing or it would be a lot easier. I'm gonna put this here
and then I put it right there. Then I'm gonna throw juice to it and try it.
I sprayed it a second ago. It's probably, the point's probably bad. I mean I'm probably wasting
my time here. I could pull a spark plug and check it that way but I'm gonna put the boost pack on
and make it spin a little faster. Let's check the points. I'll pull that off, check the points
real quick. The guy swears up and down it runs. I don't know. I messed with a couple of these and
I ain't never got one that actually ran. I mean obviously I personally had one that ran but
the last three or four I bought, none of them's ran. They've been sitting too long.
Says Chevrolet across the valve cover. It'll make the truck worth a little bit more money
if I fire it up. The firewall's not rusted out. The three-speed on the column still works.
Clutch rod's still in it. The alternator's still in it. All the voltage regulators,
all that stuff's still in there. It looks like it's unmolested. The guy swore up and down his
bought it 20 years ago and it's been sitting there in the yard and his dad died seven years ago.
He wanted it out of the yard. You can see by the drywall cracks in that thing,
it's been sitting around for a while. It says Biosply on it. The rear tires,
they went and bought some wagon wheels, 15-inch wagon wheels put on it, six lug,
but I need some tires for here. They might get swapped around if the offset's right on it.
There is the back of the cab beat up a little bit. Not bad, but a little bit. The one thing
that I wanted, the reason I bought the whole truck is this right here, sliding rear window.
The sliding rear window, I believe, is worth what I paid for the whole truck,
but it will be worth more if I can get it to start. I might fix it. If I can get it to start,
I might fix it. I've got a regular glass I can put in the back of it. The front window's been
shot out with a BB gun. I think it's BB gun. Front window's been shot up right there. I
am glad it didn't hit the rear hatch, but let me take this apart and I'll get back with you.
I can't show y'all what I'm doing here. I'm probably going to have to file them points
down, so let me get down to it and see what I can find out, make sure everything's unhooked
so I don't get fried, but I'll get back to you in a minute. Okay, y'all, if y'all can see those
points. Now, some people probably don't even know what points are, but that's a set of points
right there. See how that end is white? It's not supposed to be white. Okay,
the way you set these points, you turn that distributor housing. See how it's got points
right there, like knuckles right there on it? You get one of them up on that, okay,
and that's when you set your gap. That's how you set your points on the distributor,
or you can use a meter you can put here on your pull, and I believe it hooks over here for power,
and it'll tell you the dwell, the dwell of the ... That's only on a V8, I believe.
Yeah, that's only on V8s, so nevermind. You'll have to figure it out this way with this one.
This cap looks brand new. Now, all that stuff in there looks brand new. Somebody left a switch
on and burnt them points. So, I've got some 320-grit sandpaper. During the 20-grit sandpaper,
I'm going to fold it over and run it in between there a couple times and see if I can clean it
up. So, I'll come back to you when I get it cleaned up a little bit. Okay, y'all, this is
going to be hard. I sanded the points again. I've got to spray it down. Okay.
Ha, ha, ha. Success. Okay. That was a good backfire, wasn't it?
The guy didn't lie, believe it or not. It ruins. Got to make sure it don't come out of gear,
but I've got it pinned here and in the back, so it would be hard for it to move.
So, you can get it all over the exhaust like that. It ain't good. It backfires usually.
So, now what do I do? Okay, y'all. So, I guess the next step is I need to find me a carburetor,
and it's been so long. These are my pros. So, I'll have to get a torch and heat those up.
If I get them freed up, I can get them loose. And then like this is the kickdown, I believe.
Should be. I ain't had the six cylinder version. This is the vacuum advance. It comes over here,
goes down to that. This tube has scared me to death like 20 times. Let's see if it's got any
coolant in it. Nope, nothing that you can see. But anyway, we know it starts. It did fire off.
I did sand the points down like I showed y'all. Unhooked it so it wouldn't burn the points up
again. I need to get a carburetor put on it and then figure out how to get it to go there. Yeah,
the shaft's going to be down here pulling. So, that needs to come up like that. There you go.
So, that goes up here, but the shaft is missing. I've got to find a shaft for it,
which I might be able to make that shaft. What is that? It's up there. It was in there. I don't
wash a fluid bottle. You don't see that too often. So, and it's bolted into the right place.
Not rotted out here at all. Not rotted out over there. Firewall still got the original paint.
Not rotted out. Hood's not rotted. Backside of the hood. It's got a very, very, very,
very little rot right there. A little bit there and a little bit over there.
It's got the grill and all in it. It's got the bumper on it. It's been hit right there
ever so slightly. That bumper's bent just a little bit. That fender is trash. That bottom
down there is rusty. The rest of it is good. Drive shaft is not bent. Rear end's good.
Does not have a bed. The back of the cab's bent up a little bit, but you put a bed there,
you'll never see it. They did pull it out a little here. You can tell they drilled through it.
Drilled it there. Pulled it there. That was it. Pulled it a little bit on that other side.
They put these brake lights in it. Pulled it a little bit there. Anyway, we got it to run now.
Now we got to figure out what we're going to do with it. Y'all, if you like what you see,
give us a thumbs up, subscribe to the channel if you hadn't already, and we'll catch you on the next.
