This video provides a comprehensive guide to the ideal \"set it and forget it\" camera settings for vlogging with the Insta360 Luna Ultra. The creator shares their specific configurations for resolution, color, exposure, and audio to help users focus on capturing content rather than technical adjustments.
In this video, folks, I'm going to share with you my go-to camera settings for the
Insta360 Luna Ultra, specifically for vlogging.
And the idea is simple, just set it once and forget it.
This way you can focus on filming and capturing moments instead of having to think about camera
settings every single time.
By the way, I'm filming this on the Luna Ultra using those exact settings so that you can
see how it also would look like.
So let's talk about resolution and frame rate.
I record in 4K, 25 frames per second.
Now, the Luna Ultra can record up to 8K.
So just to show you the difference, if you can see any, now I'm recording in 4K and this
is how it looks like.
And now we're filming in 8K and this is how it looks like.
Now, in my case, 4K is enough for social media and it also saves me on storage space.
And I choose 25 frames per second for talking head videos like you're seeing right now because
I don't plan on slowing down the footage.
If you do plan on slowing down your footage, then I recommend shooting at a higher frame
rate, such as 50 frames per second.
And if you want super slow motion, it can also go up to 120 frames per second in 4K,
which is pretty insane.
For color mode, I shoot in iLog, which gives me the most dynamic range and preserves the
details in highlights and shadow areas.
Now at first you will get this super flat image that you're seeing right now, but because
it records in such a high dynamic range, it allows me to be more flexible when it comes
to color grading in post.
Now if you're not familiar with color grading or want to speed up the process, I actually
created my own iLog LUTs.
The first one is the Essential LUT Pack and the second one is the Creative LUT Pack.
Now the Essential LUT Pack gives you a natural look in your image.
You've got three options.
You've got Standard, Rich, and Fade.
And if you want a more stylized look in your video, the Creative LUT Pack gives you instantly
a cinematic look onto your iLog footage.
And there are eight different options to choose from to suit your style.
And no conversion LUT is needed.
Now also included are my go-to settings that I'm sharing also in this video so that you
get the exact same look that you're seeing right now.
I'll be sure to leave a link to the iLog LUTs in the video description below.
Now there's also the option to add film tomes, which will bake in the look straight into
your video.
This way you have an even faster way to post it onto your social media platform.
Now I definitely think it's a great option for those who want to speed up the process.
But for me, I prefer to add the look in post as some of the footage I also reuse.
So I don't want the look to be baked in.
In terms of exposure, I leave it in auto, especially when I'm on the go and move in
and out of areas, the lighting can change quite quickly.
So I don't want to be constantly adjusting the exposure.
And by leaving it in auto, it will do it for me.
I forgot to mention that I don't use ND filters just because I don't care much about motion
blur and it's also too much of a hassle.
You easily can get fingerprints on it.
And you know, if I'm doing vlogs, more important is that I can get my message across and bring
my viewers along.
If it's more of a professional shoot where I want that film-like look, then yes, I'll
use ND filters, but otherwise I'll just leave it out.
In terms of white balance, I leave it in auto.
The Luna Ultra has a white balance sensor and it does a pretty good job at correcting
the white balance and giving you accurate colors.
Now in terms of audio, I recorded this entire video using the internal mic on the Luna Ultra,
which I think sounds pretty good.
I make sure that I have wind noise reduction set to auto.
It is a little bit windy, but luckily the Luna Ultra has a built-in wind guard, which
is great.
And this way I don't have to set up and use a wireless mic and can start recording my
vlogs immediately.
Now sometimes you need to be further away from the camera and that's where a wireless
mic comes in.
So if I'm standing this far away from the camera, the audio won't sound as good as when
using a wireless mic.
And this is how it sounds like using the wireless mic.
This is the Mic Pro from Insta360, and this way I can stand further away from the camera
while still capturing clean audio quality.
Now you actually don't need the wireless mic.
You can also use the detachable remote controller on the Luna Ultra, which has a built-in microphone.
And this is how it sounds like using the detachable remote controller.
I think it sounds pretty good, and this way I don't need to use a wireless mic and can
still stand further away from the camera, which is pretty awesome.
The metering mode I set to face priority.
So if a person's face is in the frame, the camera adjusts the exposure so that the face
is properly exposed.
Then we also got breathing compensation, which I leave on.
This reduces zoom changes in the frame when focusing on objects or subjects in different
distances.
As for focus, I leave it in continuous autofocus.
This way if I need to show an object or so, it will focus on that.
So for me, this has worked really well.
So there you have it.
These are my go-to settings for the Luna Ultra for daily vlogging.
Now be sure to also check out the LUT pack, which by the way, also include my go-to camera
settings that we talked about today.
This way you get the exact same look that you're seeing right now.
Other than that, thank you so much for watching.
Take care and see you in the next one.
