While braking performance remains a primary area for overnight improvement, the team is much happier with the long-run pace compared to previous events. Both Arvid and Liam showed strong form, with Liam performing impressively despite missing the first session.
Alan, great to see you. The car looks good around here. What's the read from your perspective?
A good day, very good day. Starting with P1, we had Iwaza in the car,
depth closing for Liam here. He did a great job for us. We did a bit of aero investigation,
learnt some good stuff, which we carried through to both cars for FP2. Both the race drivers are
happy. First laps were good, decent balance, and we just worked through our programme.
If we can improve the braking a little bit, that's where they think the weaknesses are,
so that's what we're looking at overnight. It kind of felt like a lot of people wanted
to improve their braking, so hopefully you're not alone on that side of things. Let's start
with Arvid as well. From the box, really, he looked quick out there. Particularly impressed
with him? Yes, he continues to grow in stature a little bit, I think. It doesn't feel new anymore
with him. It's first laps, he's into it, especially now we're at tracks he knows,
so I think that's really helping him. Here, Silverstone, Spa, Budapest, he should just be
stepping up each weekend, and I think we can see that in him. Makes a lot of sense. Then with Liam,
to miss that first session and kind of get on it straight away is a really good sign as well.
Yes, it's amazing. His very first lap, the first split of his first lap, I was like,
okay, you can kind of get a feel for it straight away, and it was there. To pip Arvid at the end,
I think, is a big thing after missing a whole session, so no dramas from either.
And in terms of the pace of the car on one lap and long run, pretty happy on both sides?
Yes, much happier than we were last weekend. Certainly working very well on the single lap,
better on long run than it was in Barcelona. I think we've still got a little bit of work to do
there, but we're in a much happier place. Great to have you. Just one unrelated question,
because I've not had a chance to talk to you. There was a lot of rumours coming into this
weekend about Tolo and him having a guaranteed seat. Just what's your view on it?
So we haven't spoken about it internally at all. Of course, he's there in our Young Driver
programme. He's doing a fantastic job in F2, but at the moment, this is race eight, I think,
so we're kind of just into the second third of the season. So it's very,
very early and we haven't had any discussions at all.
Because particularly, it comes at a time where Arvid's done a great job, as we've talked about,
and Liam's done a great job, as we've just talked about.
I think it's... I don't know where it's come from, but it's certainly not come from us.
