This week on Lion Whisperer TV we take a look at one of the most important things Kevin Richardson, the Lion Whisperer, does to enhance the lives of the lions at the Sanctuary - enrichment walks. Hey everyone, welcome to today's video. So today's video is going to be all about
enrichment walks. For those of you have followed me for a long time you know how
near and dear to me these walks are especially for the animals and what I
want you to pay particular attention to is how excited the animals get before
going on this anticipated walk. And then remember guys, please do comment down
below as to what your thoughts are. Love to hear your thoughts.
Okay guys, let's go. One, two, three. Look how beautiful that looks. Learn patience boys and girls.
Hey, Nez, get off. Nez, you're a nightmare. Get off.
Nez is looking out like a leopard.
Thor is on his way. I think they're all going to get going.
That poor cart takes such abuse. Anyway, they're happy to be out as a prod.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Today I'm going to be taking George and Yami out for an enrichment walk.
And these two lions absolutely love, love, love, love their walks.
I mean you cannot tell me that these two are not having an absolute blast.
It's insane. Hey boy, come, let's go.
You're a nutter, George.
Oh, now they're all starting. Now everyone's going.
There's the strapped tahina. Duba. Duba's going. The lions are going.
Three, four, five, six lions running up and down the fence.
Isn't this just a jaw? No, it's not. I mean, come on guys.
They have everywhere to run. Everywhere. So many places to run.
But no, we must come cause trouble with a vulnerable strapped tahina.
Look at Duba and he's saying, come get me guys. Look at me.
You think you've got a mane? Look at the mane on my back.
Oh, they're all marking. That's the sign of, yeah, buddy.
If there wasn't a fence here, you'd be a goner.
Let them out and see what they want to do and where they want to go.
George slipping and sliding in the mud.
Yami is looking for something to roll in. He's fallen in the water.
Oh guys, I hope you can see that. Having so much fun.
I'm trying to get around, but I'm also slipping in the mud.
Not easy going. Now they're going to come and try and wipe.
Now they're getting cocky with each other.
George is not impressed that Yami tried to embarrass him.
Look at Yami. Puffing up, puffing up, puffing up.
Going to try him on his back there. No, no, no.
Running commentary.
These guys have gone nuts. He's digging for diamonds.
Yami is having a nice swim.
Just going to quickly go back to Yami. It's not often you see a lion in the water like that.
Yami!
You guys!
These guys are nuts.
They are having an absolute blast here.
This dam has been so well worth rehabilitating.
It's just such a joy to come down here.
And yeah, let them just go nuts.
Spread their wings.
Hello guys. Oh, oh, oh. Look at that.
We're going walking. We're going walking.
Oh, oh.
Look at that excitement.
Hey, big boy.
Big boy is excited.
Are you excited?
Ready?
One, two, and three.
He just wants to get away from her.
Get me away from her.
I've been cooped up with this lioness for weeks.
So, guys, this is something I was explaining to somebody the other day is that
why these enrichment walks are so important is that
the lions do get to just do what they like to do as lions.
He's your epitome of a really gorgeous male lion.
A lot of people absolutely love him because of his wonderful nature.
I've got to tell you, I'm one of those people.
He doesn't like hyena like most lions.
He's got to the point where he's now seen the hyenas.
And this is all part and parcel of fun at the sanctuary.
Part of the enrichment.
And there's not much, you know, it's about as excited as he gets.
It's really, it's quite entertaining.
It's about the extent of his excitement.
What do you say?
Come.
Gabby, no.
Go, go, go.
That's a good girl.
No tires today.
Go.
Come.
Let's go.
Go.
Gabby's coming back to the call.
Gabby.
Yeah.
Gabby.
Yeah.
I'm going to get Gabby in.
Yeah.
Gabby.
You're a bloody naughty lion, Gabby.
Bloody naughty.
And I was saying how good she's been.
It would not be a walk.
And now you've got the cheek to growl at me.
Yeah.
Oh, whoa.
Hello, my boy.
All right, let's go.
Thanks for waiting for me.
You guys are the best.
Look at you two.
Yeah.
Such cool cats.
So cool to see.
They love it.
What would life be like without poo?
Hey, Yum, you can't get this kind of poo-poo in your camp, eh?
Only get it out here.
All right, we are out and about.
Oh, some poo-poo.
Nice.
Hello, my boy.
There she is.
She's definitely seeing something or smelling something.
Nutter's running again.
Hello, my boy.
All right, we're not going to wait around too much.
We're just going to open the gate.
Let you guys get going.
Let you get going, yeah.
Gabs, how are you going to behave?
Eh?
Gabalicious?
All right.
One, two, three.
Gabs?
Sure.
That was excitement, eh?
Look at you excited lions.
Hello, guys.
Three, two, one.
I'm probably going to get a little jump on now.
Okay.
Put that there.
My girl.
Hello, my sweetie pie.
It's a thank you, Kev.
Thank you for taking me walking.
Oh, my goodness.
She's still got it in her.
This crazy cat.
She's really loving today, guys.
I'm really honored.
Wait, wait, wait.
Wait.
Wait, Mickey.
Put the phone there.
Licks.
You okay?
Eh?
No.
Look how content that cat is.
Yummy.
Eh?
Don't do that.
Crazy cat hugging weeds.
Good morning, good morning, good morning, guys.
Today I'm going to be taking George and Yummy out for a birthday walk.
Hello, boys.
Turning 12.
I can't believe I'm saying that.
12 years of age.
They really have transformed from cubs to kings.
Hello, Yum Yum.
Who's a my boy?
Okay, let's go.
What a thank you.
I think Yummy is smelling the chicken.
I had some chicken.
And he's going, where is mine?
Kev, where is my chicken?
Super happy, these guys.
And you wouldn't say.
You wouldn't say.
They are 12.
Hello, guys.
Hello, hello, hello.
Hello, my big boy.
Right, so there's certainly nothing wrong with Fiesty's ability to run ahead today.
Yeah, they have shot off out the blocks with some massive energy today.
Hello, guys.
Hello, boy.
Hello, girls.
Hello, guys.
Hello, Charles.
Hello, big boy.
Are you going to behave?
You look like you're in good moods.
One, two, three.
Hello, my boy.
Oh, yes.
Oh, yes, my boy.
Yes, you've been very loving today.
Thank you.
And you?
Okay, just wait, wait, wait.
Guys, it's quite funny because I've been droning.
Hello, my boy.
They've been waiting for me.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Okay.
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
I can see you in a very playful mood today, my boy.
Massively playful mood.
Very cute.
Everyone thinks you're cute.
You are cute for a 12-year-old lion.
Look at you.
Go, silly.
Run.
Run, silly.
Your brother's getting away from you.
That's nice.
That's going to be beautiful.
Don't fall in.
Balance is everything.
Nice, Georgie.
You're doing a good job.
Look where he comes up.
You just love the way he keeps on coming up to me
to head bump me
to reaffirm our brotherhood.
I love that about Yam.
He's just continuously saying,
Hey, Kev.
What's up, bro?
We still good.
We are good, my buddy.
We are good.
Love you very much.
The lions are super excited.
There they go.
Hello, boy.
Super excited.
Yes.
They love their walks.
Yes, we love our walks.
Hello, my boy.
Without further ado,
let's get into today's walk.
What do you say, big boy?
Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
Go back.
No.
Bobcat says
he's happy
and he's happy that you're all watching him
and his videos.
Yeah, some
some animals just shouldn't die.
And this is one of them.
Definitely take you
for another walk because you love that.
Lions love the walks.
Thanks, Kev.
Thanks, my buddy.
It's a pleasure, my boy.
