About my garden I live on the edge of USDA zone 6b/7a We have hot and humid summers and cold winters with occassional snow and ice storms. Everything that appears tropical and is in a container goes indoors or to a greenhouse for the winter. The plants in the ground stay in the ground all year. The massive palms are faux planted in their containers to keep from blowing over, they all go to a greenhouse during the winter.

Oh hello. As soon as I pick up the camera I'm ready to go outside. Look who shows up.
Which always kind of make me feel bad for going outside. Hi Terbs. Yeah you've been already out
haven't you? You've been swimming. You've been already out. Off to a great start to talking.
Hey what's up gardener friends? Jeff here's a video of you doing well. I'm great. I got a big
beautiful box of caladiums in the house. I thought hey let's talk about one of my favorite plants.
Talk about caladiums. Are you coming? You know you can come out. Go on. There you go. One of
my favorite plants. Pretty sure that's what I just said. I've done plenty of caladium videos before
so as far as the camera is concerned I don't think we're going to go into all that. Let's just sit
back and look at some fun varieties and then maybe walk around I'll show you some other fun
ones that I have. I think yeah every caladium that I have right now would consider me one of
my favorite caladiums. So these are all of my favorite caladiums. All right these are from
Florida Boys Caladium. That's the best I can do. Here you go. Here you go. I should cover my address.
That's their information. There's their website. I'll try to remember to put a link in the description.
I'll probably forget. That's why I made sure to show y'all Florida Boys Caladium. I ordered from
them last year and I actually I don't think that video ever came out. I don't think it ever did.
Well a lot of the caladiums I grew last year they were from this place. I liked them a lot
so I ordered more of them and I have already popped these open because I had to use a couple of them
but I thought we should still go through them. Their caladiums come in different sizes. They have
mammoth sized bulbs. That's one of... that bag just broke. They're all over the place now. Okay well these
are the summer pink which is one of... I don't need to say this. Every caladium I'm about to show you
one of my favorite caladiums. Summer pinks I grew them last year. They are a big caladium. They get
really really big. You know mine were pushing 30 inches easily. Easy easy easily 30 inches high.
They have a really pretty... well it's up on the screen. You see it. Nice looking plant and they're
like I said big. It's a good one to have in the back row behind the front of your garden bed.
It provides a nice backdrop. I ordered those in two different sizes. You can get things in this...
well these are the number twos. I think they also have number ones and then they have the jumbos
and the mammoth sized bulbs. I can get a mammoth. That's what I always prefer which is what I
believe these two are the mammoth size right? Summer pink mammoth. Yeah so here we go. I'll pull this down
I can show you guys what that looks like in comparison in case you're wondering. If you're
going to place an order and you want to know well is it really that much bigger? Yeah here's the
size difference on these. So here's the mammoth size bulb right here. Corm. Really big. That's
really it's like three of them that haven't been separated as compared to what we get in here which
here's just a handful of these three little guys. So the thing is with these it's not like you're
going to get a bigger plant out of these you're just likely to get more leaves out of the bigger
ones. That's what they say on their website about the different bulb sizes like the bigger the
corm you use the more abundant and full of a plant you're going to have. The smaller ones less full,
bigger ones more full. Height wise they should be about the same and I would say that's probably
true because last year I planted both with the summer pink and I really couldn't tell a huge
difference between which ones were which aside from the ones that were planted from mammoth bulbs
were just more full. They had a lot more going on with them. Gorgeous plant. Love that one. So I also
grabbed a bag of the garden white. I thought that these were mammoths but I don't think they are.
Does it say on here? There's 25. No I wouldn't order 25 mammoth sized bulbs that would cost
a fortune. These look like they're probably number twos or number ones but same deal as the summer
pinks they get quite large. It's a really big just white caladium. I love white caladiums because you
can have them in your shady areas where caladiums just tend to prosper and it draws your eye back
and it lightens up the dark areas of the garden. You can use them as a highlighter really so if you
have a spot in the ground where it's just that looks really dark and really dull put some white
caladiums back there. Just something with some sort of variegation draws your eye back to that
area and it really just helps bring the space to life. So that's why I have the garden whites there
and again that's a big one just like the summer pink so it'd be nice if I'm gonna have the big
ones to have the ones that are multicolor and the ones that are just white. This one right here
is I thought it was called autumn beauty it just says autumn on here. It's the number two size bulb
so just like a regular size bulb like those other ones I was showing you. There's two right there
that's one a little bit of size inconsistency but they're all a good size. The autumn it's up on the
screen right now you can see it it's a beautiful multicolor I love the tones on this one. I haven't
grown the autumn. Everything else we're talking about in this video I've grown so far but not
this one and I'm really excited for it. I planted several of them a few weeks ago in the ground
they haven't come up yet and then I have these right here that I'm going to mix into some planters
around here. The coloration on the autumn and one of the other ones about to show you just seems
more versatile to me. The white is pretty versatile too but sometimes caladiums can be loud right
there's a lot going on and there are some amazing caladiums out there I love a lot. I want to start
rattling them up but when I rattle off I have to put a picture up on the screen and screw it let's
do it the fiesta it's a red and white with a like it's it's white more with like a red veining and
red center beautiful spring fling awesome I have some of those around here somewhere I'm not sure
where. Florida beauty I have one of those over here but it hasn't come up and leafed out quite yet
that is a gorgeous caladium lots of variation with that one and there are some that are much
more rare and harder to get a hold of there's one's called like purple splash or something
I don't know we're not going to go on all those prefer to talk about things you can actually get
your hands on so on that note let's go over here I have a couple caladiums over here to look at
this one right here which should not be over here next to this monstera because you can barely see
it is the frog in a blender caladium isn't it beautiful that frog in a blender is just a classic
easy to grow fairly common they do tend to grow taller I've had this one for several years so it's
just getting bigger and bigger and bigger every year get good growth on it it's pretty sturdy
there's usually a hint of pink in the middle and up there at the very top of the lobe and that sinus
I should say awesome awesome awesome caladium that variegation I love that variegation on it
and over here I plant these every single year these are the lemon blush which I believe these
yeah they're maybe exclusive to proven winners I'm not sure probably there's a heart to heart now so
that's yeah it's probably where you have to go to get them they tend to have a rounder fatter leaf
on them see that look isn't it pretty it's just cool I love the caladium with the big round leaf
that's not something you see as often it's more cupped and has a nice color to it it's a chartreuse
green with that red in the middle they tend to stand out really well in containers like anytime
I plant one of these it is very obvious and you just see it in the edge of a pot a mixed planter
you go oh wow that's beautiful because it is it's very beautiful now look at this one look at look
at that isn't that stunning this is another proven winner is one that I don't ever see around I just
got lucky and found this one in a nursery last year it's called explosion it's part of their
heart to heart but I never see that the nurseries when they get in the heart to heart caladiums
so it's just a lucky find I guess I'm sure maybe y'all have better luck with them you see they have
a nice irregular leaf to them they tend to come out with more of a greenish hue and then they age
out to this burgundy color now my camera is brightening it up somewhat and as this matures
some more the colors change even more so in a month or so these are going to be more of a reddish
brown tone and the red's not going to be anywhere near as vibrant and they just lend themselves to
a more neutral palette which I know you probably wouldn't think that looking at this leaf right
but they are kind of like I said a warm burgundy almost like a like a cherry chocolate kind of red
on the outer perimeter and I just think that that is so nice it goes well into the fall plantings
that's the thing that's one of the reasons that I like it we move into fall sometimes things like
this are a bit ridiculous but I mean I still love them but this just goes better with anything I'm
doing in the fall time and look at that there's just so much irregularity and that irregularity
I think is a beautiful thing because you just never know what you're going to get with each leaf
that is so pretty even the two of these together I don't know if I'd put them in the same pot because
I think that having them right next to each other takes away but gosh you gotta love a colladium
okay hmm I can't remember this one's name I really like it though is this one siesta did I save the
tag I don't think I did it's a really common one there's the leaf I'm there are so many colladiums
that this could be there are a lot of colladiums that look like this one spring no not spring
colladium might have been the siesta I don't know that's not even the one I meant to talk about I
just told you before I was there too I was walking oh yeah that one so these just went in the ground
so they're looking a little bit haggard but you'll get the idea with them and these have a really
these are also from the heart to heart collection through proven winners which
you know I don't want to be like oh by the proven winners colladiums but I mean look at that isn't
that a cool freaking leaf this one is called clowning around clowning around that's right
because it has that like jester's hat on it the jester's hat in a long shape so like I said this
is just got some compaction going to excite just put this in the ground but this will start to put
up some new foliage it's already starting to put some out they'll start to get taller and they have
a really long leaf that's somewhat rippled on the side with sinus that goes in deep in the lobes
protrude out sideways instead of straight up like a heart it's just a really really fun and unique
leaf not one that I see in many other colladiums unless we're getting to the strap leaf colladiums
and even with those I don't usually see that leaf shape I think that's really really cool
I really enjoy the clown around this one is a lot easier I see these all over the place at
big box stores are pretty easy to get your hands on those larger colladiums they're awesome because
if you have a bed like this we have flowers in the front you can put them right behind those have
those big heart-shaped leaves right behind everything that's why I love them those summer
pinks those garden whites they're nice and big oh we've had a lot of wind recently sorry bud
have to put a stake in that one yeah that's a smattering of different sizes to enjoy I need
to get these planted up colladiums for me I don't bother planting them so we are consistently having
hot temperatures because they'll just sit in the ground and just do a whole bunch of nothing and
rot they really do need the warmth to get going so I either start them very early like irresponsibly
early in my grow space on top of a heat mat and then wait until May or June to get them in the
ground or this year I just waited until June I don't know this this be out in June I don't know
ideally it's good to get them in the ground as soon as you can because they will sit for a while
sometimes before they'll start to do anything but once they get moving it's worth the wait they do
a good amount of growing pretty quickly all right hey thanks for hanging out those are some of my
favorite colladiums check out Florida boy colladiums I have enjoyed everything I've gotten from the
past couple years everything has come in looking really healthy nice size plants and they have a
really good selection it does change so you know some of these things may not be available right
now when you get on their website but I'd say it's worth checking back or contacting them maybe they
can guide you as to how to get a hold of those I don't know I've never had to speak with them but
or gotten to speak with them you know I prefer text messaging yeah uh check them out they have
nice stuff all right hope everybody's doing well name some of your favorite colladium varieties
any tips tricks or suggestions you may have for growing them this dove where do you think you're
going you sneaking up on the labrador they're so funny it's such a good dog anyways yeah hey
hope everybody's doing well having a great day great everything's going absolutely beautiful
for you and of course as always and most importantly everybody keep on growing bye
