Okay, let's kick things off this grand 4th of July weekend, America 250 weekend.
Let's bring in our first guest, former White House Chief of Staff to Donald Trump and now
Senior Advisor of Bondi Partners, Mick Mulvaney.
Mick, great to see you.
Happy 4th of July.
Happy 250th birthday of the great United States of America.
Mick, you're down in Florida right now.
Tell us what's the mood.
You've got the big 4th weekend.
Are people going to have a bit of a party?
It is, James.
It's a big party all across the country.
4th of July is a big deal for us anyway, but the 250th is extra special.
I got to tell you, I can't remember if it's as big a deal now as it was when we were kids.
I remember the 1976, the 200th bicentennial, and I remember that the whole country was
just sort of wrapped up in it.
But I was also nine years old, and I just can't remember if it was that big of a deal
for adults or not.
It feels like it's bigger than an ordinary 4th of July, but to me, as a 59-year-old now,
doesn't feel like it's as big a deal as it was in 1976.
But I'd be curious to know if you remember it from when you were a little.
Well, I was actually two.
I'm going to give my age away.
So I think it was a little bit early to remember just how things were going there in the height
of the Ford-Carter era there.
I do remember a bit of malaise.
But what is the deal, though?
I am a bit startled because I think you're alluding to how some people have turned this
into a political thing.
They don't like Trump, and so they don't want to have a party for this.
But I was just looking at the New York Times and the Washington Post front pages.
They are basically ignoring that this is happening.
And the New York Post reports that 10 states have all but refused to participate in the
Great American State Fair that they were putting on in Washington, where all the different
states put on pavilions, which just seems, dare I say, kind of un-American.
It does.
And it's a shame.
It really is.
But keep in mind, everything is politicized in this country right now.
Sports, religion, patriotism, everything.
Of course, you know, if you want to be fair, Donald Trump has sort of fed this when it
comes to the 250th event, the giant American state fair up in Washington, D.C., by saying
it's going to now be a Trump rally.
And you know, look, if you're not a Trump fan, do you really want to drive across the
country to see that?
So I get it.
I wish we had been able to put politics aside.
Maybe we can't do that.
But I'm still looking forward to a big day.
The fireworks show is going to be fantastic.
And say what you want about Donald Trump.
He knows how to do fireworks and he knows how to do a flyover.
You should expect a flyover to end all flyovers on the 4th of July.
Hope you folks get a chance to watch.
You folks will be able to see it.
It's going to be late at night here because Trump backed up the starting time for a variety
of reasons, including the heat in Washington, D.C.
There'll be a nearly 40 degrees Celsius on the 4th of July during the day.
So he backed up into the evening a little bit.
So but it should be the what?
The middle of the day for you folks, which would be great.
Well, you know, actually, it's a great opportunity for me to remind everybody that on Outsiders
Sunday morning at nine, we're going to be bringing you all sorts of the activities that
are happening in Washington.
So, yeah, everybody stick here on this station.
We're going to be covering a lot of that stuff live.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
I have been struck, though, by some of the things Trump has been doing also in the lead
up to the the 4th here.
And I loved seeing him visit the new Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Library.
He was escorted by historical reenactors of the Rough Riders.
Teddy Roosevelt was, of course, famously the man in the arena.
He was president at the hundred at the hundred and twenty fifth birthday of the nation.
Do you think Trump sees some parallels between himself and maybe Teddy Roosevelt a bit here?
Because he seemed very into that visit.
He does.
And he was.
Keep in mind, my favorite part of the visit was the interaction between Trump and the
artificial intelligence, Teddy Roosevelt.
They actually had a conversation where Trump asked him if he thought the Panama Canal was
sort of the best thing that he did as president.
Absolutely fascinating what they can do with technology.
But to see Donald Trump, you know, sort of engaging with with with Teddy Roosevelt was
kind of neat.
But yeah, Trump does see himself as sort of that bigger than life sort of persona.
And certainly Teddy Roosevelt fit that bill.
So it's not surprising to any of us who know Trump that this is where he went.
It is also a great new museum.
And it's also close to I think it's in South Dakota and it's close to Mount Rushmore where
there was another large fireworks celebration for the 250th as well.
So it turned out to be a big trip for Trump.
But again, a really good 250 celebration for the White House and a good event for Donald
Trump as president.
Yeah.
And that library, that museum looks a heck of a lot more fun than the Barack Obama Museum
that just opened up Chicago.
I can tell you that.
Hey, we do have to talk a little bit of politics here.
I know we're in party mode here, but we are basically four months away from the midterms.
And the Democrats now seem to be falling all over themselves to pick the most outlandish
socialist communist Marxist Hamas loving candidates.
They can.
And this is interesting because things seem to be now swinging in the other way.
The polls and prediction markets are suggesting that the Republican Party is down in the box
seat to hold on to the Senate.
Take a look at this from CNN.
Chance to win the Senate.
The Republican chances, as you noted, John, the environment is getting a little bit better
for Republicans.
On May 1, Republicans had a 51 percent chance to take back the Senate.
Now it's a 59 percent chance.
Look, Democrats have a shot here.
Mick, what's happening here?
Are the Democrats starting to scare off normal voters or are voters happy with the MOU that
sort of ended the war with Iran and petrol prices coming down?
Or is it a bit of column A, a bit of column B?
James, if I may take a little liberty, because you and I have been doing this a long time.
Sure.
For those of you who are only part time watchers of the show and you think that maybe James
is engaging in a little bit of hyperbole when he calls these Democrats socialist communist
Hamas loving candidates, he's not exaggerating.
That's actually real.
These are the Democrat socialists of America.
They are the far left progressive wing of the party.
In fact, they probably go beyond progressive.
And yet, James, they are really starting to impact the likelihood of the Democrats or
at least the chances of the Democrats to pick up the Senate.
Look, you can win a Democrat primary in our country under the way our elections are structured
by appealing to the far, far left.
As you can in certain districts by appealing to the far, far right.
But when you come to statewide elections or more broader elections for, say, the House,
the folks who are a little bit closer to the center tend to do very well.
And when it comes to the Senate, those folks all have to run statewide.
So when the Democrats are nominating these these nut job left wingers, it really is going
to impact the likelihood of them having a chance to pick up the Senate.
It's real.
It has a little bit to do, as you mentioned, with oil prices, petrol prices, those types
of things.
It is the sort of end of the war in Iran.
But generally, I think it has more to do with the quality of the Democrat candidates and
the Democrats are in trouble because of it.
And they know it.
That's amazing.
The people are already starting to tune in.
Just ordinary voters this far out.
Finally, Mick, what are you doing tomorrow?
Are you having a big, big barbecue, big party at the House?
We're down here in Key West.
So we will be we are fortunate enough to be able to see the one of the biggest firework
shows in the state of Florida, be about 25 minutes long.
We'll have a group over for that.
I'll be wearing my my white jacket, as you can see.
I'd left my pin, James, I had my American flag pin and I left it in the other room.
So I feel awful about that, but we'll have a great time and I'll try not to make the
mistake I made today.
I was on a phone call with London and at the end of the call, I wished everybody a happy
4th.
Excellent.
Excellent, Mick.
Well, I've got my 4th of July American flag tie on.
I don't know if anybody can see it on camera, but have a great 4th, Mick.
Great to chat.
And we'll speak soon.
