Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe speaker provides an update on her recent move to a new rental home, explaining the transition from her previous temporary residence. Through a Q&A format, she discusses her reasons for renting over buying, her search process via Zillow, and her strategy for downsizing and decluttering to fit into a smaller, more affordable space.
Welcome, welcome.
This looks stupid.
Okay, let's throw this better.
Guys, we're in the new house, sort of.
I feel like I've been getting a million questions
because I've been back and forth, back and forth
between both of the houses.
So everyone's like, I thought you already moved.
What's going on?
So that's what this video is for.
We're keeping it cash today.
We're just gonna do a little Q&A.
I'm gonna answer all the questions
about the whole moving process and what's going on.
Where to begin?
I'm gonna start here.
So it's been almost three years
since me and my ex-husband split.
So closer to two and a half.
We're rounding up to three,
but it's been closer to two and a half years.
Anyway, I got a rental two years ago.
I knew that that place was temporary
because the owners of the home were planning to move back.
So I knew that it was a temporary place.
Also, I did kind of feel a little bit rushed
when I got that place specifically.
It's kind of hard to find rentals in my area
as far as homes go.
And I knew I wanted to find a house.
So when I got that place,
it was way bigger than I needed
and it was double my mortgage.
So there's a couple of reasons that I'm like,
I'm glad that that place was not forever.
My main priorities when I was looking for a place back then
was I wanted to keep my kids in their same school.
So I was trying to stay as local as possible.
And I did find a house
that was a few houses away from my kid's school.
So it was perfect.
The only complaints I would say about that house
was it was a lot more expensive.
I hated how much money the rent was.
When you consider the fact
that I was going from two incomes to one
and then my mortgage doubled,
that was not that fun.
I'm a little glad to be leaving.
And the house that I ended up finding,
which I'll get into in a second,
is back to pretty similar to what my mortgage was,
which I'm like,
this is just way more comfortable for me as a single mom.
Anyway, that's besides the point.
So again, I knew that that was temporary.
I did know in, I would say January
is when I knew the exact timeframe
about when the owners were gonna be back.
But the problem is if I started looking for a rental
in January, February, March, they go so fast.
I knew I couldn't really be looking
until it was getting closer to me needing to move.
So when I finally started looking,
the day I got on, I got on Zillow
to look for homes for rent,
this house that I'm in popped up
and it had only been on the market for one day.
But by that point,
they had already received so many applications.
So I wrote the girl and was like,
can I come look at the house?
I toured the house.
I'm like, this is exactly what we need.
It's got four bedrooms.
There's two baths.
I might've already shown you the tour
or maybe I'm gonna show you after.
It's not the best tour.
When I recorded it,
I don't know if I was speed walking or what I was doing,
but it's not, sorry guys, it's like a minute long.
The house is full of furniture now.
So you get what you get.
I can't redo it.
So I toured the house.
She had already received so many applications.
And so I was just crossing my fingers.
So I just kept my options open.
Another house came available.
I went and looked at that one.
It didn't have a downstairs at all.
It was like all on one level, which is totally fine.
Except for the fact, I just know myself, you guys.
I love having two areas,
like just send the kids in the basement.
I just like that.
So I was hoping for this location because it had a basement.
I also liked that it had a fenced in backyard
and I really love the location of this home.
So I was really hopeful.
And by some miracle, I did get this house.
So this was the one
that I was really crossing my fingers for.
Okay, let's just get to your guys' questions now.
Cause I did get a couple of them on Instagram.
Oh, what's making you keep renting and not purchasing?
So the main thing for me is
maybe this is not even the right answer,
but I feel like I kind of want to buy something
with a partner.
So I'm waiting for that kind of.
Also the market is insane right now.
I mean, who's to say it's not going to just keep going up.
Maybe it will.
It's just so hard for me to buy something
when I have no idea where I'm going to end up,
who I'm going to end up with,
and those types of things.
I just feel like every time I've considered buying a house,
it feels like a no to me.
And I know it feels like
you're just throwing your money away when you're renting,
but it's also kind of been nice
that I'm not locked in anywhere.
However, I did sign a year lease here.
I could stay longer if I wanted.
I don't know where I'm going to end up.
And so I think just staying flexible with that,
that just feels like the right answer for me at the time.
Someone said, I feel like this came on so sudden.
How did you find your place?
I guess I kind of answered that.
Found it on Zillow.
The day that it went up,
came in toward the house that day.
It was very quick.
And then it was a waiting game for me
to see if she picked me or not.
So anytime a house came up,
I would go and look at it.
So I was keeping my options open,
but I was crossing my fingers for this one.
What's the vibe you're going for here?
So you guys, it's going to be different
than I guess what I'm used to doing,
or maybe what you guys are used to me doing.
There's going to be a lot more color.
I don't know if you guys can already tell.
I feel like this is going to just feel so different for me.
And hopefully you guys like it
because it is going to be different.
I guess my answer is stay tuned
because I don't really even know.
I think it'll just kind of come together
as my stuff gets brought in.
I will be posting on Instagram,
a bunch of short form content on like each individual room.
And I'll probably be making YouTube videos on that as well.
But it'll be more frequently on Instagram versus YouTube.
So if you want to follow along there,
that's what I would suggest.
Okay, packing tips about to move with two small kids.
I would just say minimize and declutter
as much as you can at the beginning of the year.
I, again, didn't know where I was going to end up.
I knew I wanted,
I was hoping to find something a little bit smaller.
We don't use all the space at the other house.
There's two bedrooms in our loft that we don't use at all.
So space-wise, I didn't need as much space as that house was.
And I was hoping to find something less expensive,
which I knew probably meant
I would need to downsize a little bit.
And so downsizing was kind of the goal.
So once January hit, I started massively decluttering.
And now I am so grateful that I did that
because as I've been moving things here slowly,
I'm like, there just isn't space.
For example, the two bathrooms,
we have three full baths in that house.
The two bathrooms that we have upstairs.
So I have a master bath and then the kids have a bathroom.
We have like six drawers, three cabinets.
Like these are huge vanities.
And here we all have to share one cabinet.
So I'm like, I'm just so grateful again
that I have been decluttering
and getting rid of so much stuff
because the amount of space that's here
versus where we're used to, it's so much smaller.
So I would just suggest that also,
I mean, anytime you move,
it's so annoying to be going through everything.
So I am so grateful that I started in January.
It's made the whole process a lot easier.
Also my closet, I mean,
I made a whole video about my closet.
I decluttered like 75% of it and I have a tiny closet here.
So it's just, again, it's been very helpful for me
to not have to bring so much crap.
I do have to say I'm sweating.
Why did I choose this?
It's like fleece.
Is it just me or does anybody else,
like when you wear fleece, it's like the most,
oh my gosh, I'm so freaking hot right now.
Dang it, but I'm committed, I'm committed.
I've already filmed the majority of this in this sweater.
Holy crap.
Another question I got was have you actually moved
or what's going on?
So no, I haven't yet.
I do have the keys to this house
and this is the only crappy part.
The only way I could get this house
was signing my lease when I did,
which was technically in June,
which also overlaps a whole month.
So I technically have both houses for a whole month.
Not the best.
It was expensive to pay your deposit, pay the rent,
and then pay the rent at the other place.
That kind of sucked, but it's also kind of made it nice
to just slowly be moving stuff here.
There is like a specific date in the middle of the month
that we are going to just take all of the furniture over.
Until then, I've just been moving things slowly
and I have like a brand deal that I'm working on.
So I've been doing that in the backyard,
but it's kind of been nice
because I will just move a couple boxes here
every single day and then I unpack it.
So by the time I actually move, move,
it's not gonna feel so stressed.
And this is not typical.
I don't think most people will have this opportunity
to move slowly.
It's usually like a one or two day process.
I'm excited though to finally just have one spot
because I feel like I'm just constantly back and forth
all day, every day.
Once I'm here, then I'll get to the other house,
make sure it's cleaned really good,
do the deep cleaning and everything that I need
to kind of close that out.
And then we'll be here.
So like July, which it is July already,
but July we will officially be here permanently.
I guess we're just jumping right into the house door.
So I think it's pretty self-explanatory.
I probably don't need to be telling you what every room is.
I think your eyeballs can tell you that.
This is the front living room, family room area.
There's two bedrooms upstairs and one bath.
I think I already mentioned that.
So there's not like a master bathroom.
We're all just sharing one.
Let me think.
Oh, there was one thing I forgot to mention
during my little Q and A.
And this house doesn't really have a dining room.
I don't know what they were thinking
when they left the space for, I guess, for a dining room.
It's like a five by three space.
So I am trying to be as creative as possible
to create something that will work here.
I guess just stay tuned
because I am working on that right now.
Again, the space is just a lot smaller.
There's not as many cabinets,
but I think with the amount of downsizing I've done,
it actually fits us perfect.
There's another family room in the basement
and then there's two additional bedrooms down there
with a bathroom.
And the laundry room is massive.
So I will also kind of have that as the kids' playroom.
There's like an under the stairs area.
Again, we're just getting creative
with the space that we have.
And yeah, I'm just really excited for this new chapter.
It feels like a whole new fresh start.
And I feel like, I don't know,
this transition has been so much easier for me
than the last move.
So much easier.
And I would say my kids feel the exact same way.
So we're all excited for this move.
But yeah, this is part one of many videos to come.
I'll be sure to bring you guys along as I style this house.
So yeah, make sure that you're subscribed
so you don't miss the next video.
Thank you guys, bye.
