Padres vs. Dodgers Game Highlights (7/3/26) | MLB Highlights

Dodgers and Padres ready to play game two of this series and Shohei Ohtani who's the second best pitcher in the majors also the fourth best hitter in the majors when it comes to O.P.S. That one fifty two era second only to Jacob Mizorowski and here he comes ready to take the ball trying to pitch the Dodgers to their ninth win in their last eleven games and trying to take back to back games from San Diego to open up this series a beautiful night for baseball this holiday weekend he's coming off a game last week in Minnesota where he gave up three runs in the second inning but just one hit after that he went six got the win last few starts not quite as good but look at the full body of work eight and two with a one five coming off of his rest a season high uncharacteristic start though here for Shohei that is back to back rocks to open this game and so the Padres trying to do what they did last night and get on the board quickly. Manny Machado went deep for the seventeenth time to lead the swing and a miss strike three through a sinker at ninety seven good to see him finish off a hitter with two strikes there. That's been one of the areas where there's been the biggest drop off lately. He's given up eleven runs the last three starts first ten starts seven total and he was almost untouchable with two strikes over that great start to this season. It was almost impossible to sustain what he was doing. It was unbelievable. Very Shohei with Tony to have an under one year array one down first and second as Gavin Sheets stands in power versus power matchup here as Sheets stands in against Ohtani he's allowed only three home runs all year all of them on the road Sheets lines it to right field that's in for a base hit here comes Fernando around it comes a throw from Tucker and right it'll be late the Padres take a one nothing lead Gavin Sheets driving in Fernando San Diego jumps on top one nothing he throws his pitch that he likes to throw a lot it's the sweeper and it's just up in the zone too much. It's a good sign Padres on the board first and third with one away in tie France swing and a miss strike three pump the fastball by the ninety nine to get out number two. Look at the pinpoint control at ninety nine split that outside corner. Cronenworth the third Sheets at first without two down a run in. Here is Jackson Merrill sixth in the order tonight. It takes off from first to swing and a miss straight through winds up getting three strike outs but one run for San Diego now Ohtani will get ready to lead off the bottom of the first. The pitcher leads off after throwing twenty nine pitches in the first inning Ohtani standing in as the leadoff batter in the bottom half. Well Michael King takes the mound tonight. The staff leading 18 start trying to improve his record to six and seven three and a half ERA hooks it on the ground right side to Cronenworth for the first out here in the bottom of the first inning. All the work the bullpen has been getting lately really can use a good long start from King and a good start for King to one two three first inning for Michael King and he taps it with a K. Now the third baseman some moon song Manny Machado is the D.H. tonight song strikes out swinging wheels on a breaking ball fourth K for Shohei two outs in the second he'll try another three to swing and a miss strike three back to back case in a one two three second Ohtani with five strikeouts his first time through the order but it's still one nothing Padres Shohei to the extra rest Dave Roberts ready to push him extra tonight and he said Shohei reported that the knee feels as good as it has in a long time swinging a miss strike three and is six he's already for Ohtani when this pitch is lethal. The reason why he throws it as much as got seven pitches but the sweeper has been his best and you see it why they're making Tatis Jr. This looks silly and I'll take Cronenworth down on strikes here it's another strikeout for Ohtani I mean especially after the first inning he walks the first two batters and then since then go ahead and sit down every single batter seven case here two outs in the third I use yellow highlighter on my strikeouts and marker is running out hit on the ground the third Muncy over the line backhands and throws a one hopper to Freeman in time seven in a row to start the night for King. So far the sinker has got a little more below tonight. Forty two is right down the middle strike three. Yes wrong. And King punches him out two away here in the third. Softened him up with the breaking balls early in his finish. But that Pat did inside out sinker round number two and Freeland swings and misses it. The change up strike three back to back case to end the third and a perfect start to the night for Michael King quickly to out here in the fourth inning down in the fourth inning for Jackson Merrill strikeout victim in the first inning. Now he sends one to centerfield and deep has going back at the wall. It is God Jackson Merrill Adonis in L.A. puts the Padres on top to nothing solo shot. He turns around a one hundred mile an hour fastball off the bat one oh six El Centro. That's some kind of nice retired the first ten. Andy Paul has now standing in. And there's a one hopper pick by Zander up and throwing gets him what a play by Bogey at shortstop Zander flashing the leather hit so hard plenty of time. Nice accurate throw to get Pajas. That is not an easy play folks. But that's Zander Bogerts out there at shortstop. That's Grundy Liga 17 game on base streak for Freeman a three seventy one during the 17 games. What's this one by the dive of Cronenworth at second base and right breaks up a string of eleven in a row retired by King to start his evening Freeman held on by France at first base on two strikes to Betts. Here's the pitch from King swung on lined into left center Jackson Merrill backing up just a little bit. He's there to make the catch and Andy getting no runs one hit and Freddy Freeman left at first base. We have played for Dodger Stadium. The ball hit hard Muncie did not really have time to shuffle to his left and get in front of the ball and he was going to get the short hop. So a runner on for Tatis Junior did on doesn't have many hits this year but he has one here in the fifth swing and a miss. Got him with a fastball above the zone. Tony that's his eighth strikeout on two strikes here to Cronenworth. And a ground ball right side into right field a base hit. Duran is headed for third. So is the throw and it will be late. First and third with two down Padres got something going here. Second time Jake's been on his first hit another opportunity for Manny to do some damage here. Struck out in the first routed out the third in the third. Good enough in Padres in front two on with two out Ohtani delivers Machado pulls on the third Muncie jumps up makes the play. He's taking a couple away from his third base counterpart. So no runs two hits no errors two stranded for Michael this year in innings one through four his R.A. is two point one three after the fourth inning this year. Michael King's R.A. is nearly seven. He has been extraordinarily sharp here tonight on C swings and misses strike three tied him up with a fastball fourth day of the day for King. Yeah no this is this is the version of Michael King we have seen what he's gone very deep into game two outs here in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Padres on top to nothing swing and a miss strike three. It is a one two three fifth for King with a pair of days. I've raised two Dodgers nothing one out nobody on in the top of the six then a two and two to tie France and strikes him out the ninth for Ohtani time he's gotten tie France tonight. Both fastballs just continues to elevate with the four seam cannot catch up. It's been anywhere from ninety nine to one oh one one shot of the season high for Ohtani inside out swing and a liner to left that's in for a base hit in front of Hernandez second into the night for Jackson Merrill this one with two outs in the inning and the Padres with a guy aboard for Zander Bogart. Merrill stretching out a pretty good lead over there to right and that is going to get in that's going to the corner flying around the bases is Jackson Merrill they're going to try and score him. The throw is play. The Padres take a three nothing lead. Then the Bogart's driving in a two run with a double even Shohei Ohtani can make some mistakes sometimes to see where that's up and it's a great plan a great approach by Zander taking him the other way. Three nothing Padres one and one song chops it on the ground of the left side Betts long way to go reaches out and snags it he's got no play but he does save a run by keeping that one with him. Bogart's has to stop at third but an infield single for song and he continues runners on the corners two outs for Rodolfo Duran. Runner goes at first and no throw as song will steal second base. Good pitch to go on that sweeper with lots of sweep pitch one ten from Shohei popped in the air right side shallow right field Freeman backing up along the line now in foul territory. He makes the catch and that ends the sixth inning Zander Bogart to the two out RBI double three nothing Padres in the middle of the sixth and he loses him ball for the first walk at this ball game a lot by King and all of a sudden you get Tyrone coming to the plate here and Freddie Freeman could be the at-bat of the game given the situation and Freeman at the plate Freddie Freeman tonight one for two struck out in the first single to right in the fourth inning. On the ground right side softly hit Cronenworth will go to first and out of the jam is King Frieden. Nothing Padres ahead as we go to the top of the seventh and Kyle Hurt takes over it bounces a ball to second Freeland back and flip the bats. Here comes the turn in time for two four six three twin killing and Kyle Hurt wiggles out of it Muncie with a base hit to right field and the Dodgers in business in the seventh first to reach against King and Kyle Tucker comes up as the tying run. That is going to do it for Michael King this one base runner through five but four of them the last inning plus and even though he's only at seventy five pitches Greg Stammen going to while he can to try and end this six game skid. More home to come on to face Tucker. Tucker Dodgers getting a gift. Let's see if they can unwrap it. And so the time run is on and the go ahead run is up in the form of Teoscar Hernandez who feels like a ticking time bomb here in his first week back. This one to take the lead one swing. He knew it as soon as he hit it. Beautiful swing after Michael King comes out of this game the Dodgers unleash and the order turns over for Ohtani who is not going to hit Miguel Rojas is going to finish it for Ohtani. Miggie Rowe continues to show the art of being a teammate. The Dodgers straight to what they scored for on one swing Teoscar Hernandez top of the ninth Dodgers for Padres three Tanner Scott will face eight nine and one for the Padres. He swings and misses. And it may not have been in the strike zone that was down it was caught almost in the dirt struck him out fastball at the knees. They have one challenge left can't take them home with you. But on Duarte's headed back to the dugout strike three call that's a win for L.A. Tanner Scott strikes out the side and the big bad lefty walks down a second straight comeback victory over San Diego.
