Bosco Brings 'The Marvelous Miss Gender Tour To DC
Jul 7, 2026
RuPaul's drag race superstar Bosco is bringing her biggest solo show yet to DC this Friday.
The marvelous Miss Gender Theater Tour blends comedy, music, fashion and over-the-top theatrical
drag into one unforgettable performance. So we're so glad to say that Bosco is with us live.
Good morning. Good morning. Thank you so much for having me. It's great to have you. I mean
you're certainly a crowd favorite. So tell me about this tour and what your fans can expect.
Absolutely. So this is the marvelous Miss Gender. This is my super villain alter ego Miss Gender
and her ideal is to take over the world by turning everybody trans. It's kind of a little bit of a
send-up of what's currently going on politically with attitudes towards trans people and I'm kind
of taking that and running with it and just kind of deflating the tension a little bit. I think
there's humor to be found in the whole situation and as a very visibly trans person it was important
to me to write a show about that but also not to get too maudlin about it. Call me old-fashioned
but I like it when entertainment is entertaining. So there's going to be a lot of burlesque,
there's going to be a lot of comedy, there's going to be a ton of dancing, costume changes,
anything that's in my storage unit will be on this stage. So we're breaking out the coffin
that I use for TV, we're bringing out my martini glass, it's going to be the whole shebang.
Listen, we love to see it. I understand this is your first ever solo theatrical tour,
so explain the prep to me. How did you come up with the scenes, the costumes, and what you want
audiences to ultimately walk away with? Absolutely. So the prep is honestly a little bit similar to
like preparing for RuPaul's Drag Race. You have essentially a package that you're preparing
but this package includes writing a script, writing out different scenes. I've had this
idea in my head and in my notes pad for years and I finally had the opportunity to sit down,
flesh it out, and worked with a screenwriter to get things all presentable and ready for the stage.
And then I've been traveling around the country rehearsing, grabbing costumes, doing fittings.
I'm currently in Detroit right now. I've been here for about a week and we've been tacking the show,
getting all the pieces up and running. The show starts tomorrow in Detroit,
so we are at just the absolute deadline of things and I'm so excited. I can't wait for
everybody to see it. I understand as well on the show that you and RuPaul seem to have a connection
if you will. We all know that RuPaul certainly opened many doors, still opening doors when it
comes to the LG PTQ Plus community. I'm curious to know for you, what was it like having someone
like RuPaul in your corner? It felt so affirming. RuPaul is not to suck up too much, like the coolest
person in the entire world to me. She's the funniest lady in every room. She's so glamorous
and she's kind of the Oscar Wilde of our time. She really moved the needle over for queer people
in such a tangible way and to have her mark of approval and just to kind of give me that
rubber stamp of like, yes kid, you're doing things right, feels incredible. At the end of the day,
the only thing that that lady really wants to do is laugh and not be bored and luckily I know how
to make her laugh, so it was a really fun time filming with her. Had to lip-sync for your life.
I love it when she says that on all of the shows. Finally, how did you develop your own personal
style for this stage because you do have that villain element in what you do. Absolutely, I think
I lend a little bit of my personal life to my stage persona. I can be a little catty, I can be
a little dramatic and I think those are elements that help a drag queen rather than hinder a drag
queen. I don't think drag queens should be boring and I'm definitely not boring, so I get to bring
all that to the stage and putting on the wig, putting on the makeup kind of gives you license
to slay in a way that would not always be acceptable like when you're at the bank or when
doing more important things, but I love being on stage and I love the freedom that drag gives me.
I love the license to slay. I have to use that one. Bosco, thank you so much. So many are looking
forward to the Marvelous Miss Gender Tour that will be at the Warner Theater in D.C.
this Saturday. Go out and check it out and have fun. Steve. All right, Bruce.
