Taste of Navy Yard: La Famosa
Jul 6, 2026
All right, well, anyway, after a workout like that, sorry, I have to tell you, I've been to
your restaurant many times and it's amazing. That's great. Thank you so much for having us.
So let's introduce you. Introduce yourself and tell us your name and your place. All right. My
name is Violeta and I'm the manager of La Famosa Navy Yard. And the theme of your food is Puerto
Rican, right? Yeah, of course. Puerto Rican. Authentic. We just made it all fresh for you guys.
Oh my goodness. Fantastic. Tell me about Navy Yard. Tell me about your experience down here.
So yeah, we actually opened at 2020 right in the middle of COVID. It was a vision that our chef
and owner Juan Carlo have to bring some heritage from Puerto Rico. La Famosa actually means the
most famous one. So we're the most famous restaurant in the Navy Yard. Perfect. I love
that. Well, let's get into a little bit about what you brought for us here. It looks like we've got
a traditional option for your dishes, right? Yes. So I brought one of the most popular dishes
and bestseller food over here. Was that the bucket of ice? The pina colada. Is that what this is?
So we have the pina colada. We have the wine. We have sangria. Cheers, my friend. Tell me what
goes into the perfect pina colada. The perfect pina colada goes, of course, the rum itself.
We have the coconut cream. We have, of course, the pineapple juice. And that's how you create
the perfect pina colada. And what about the sangria? Typical Spanish sangria. We have a lot
of fruits inside of it. A lot of wine. It's great. Refreshing on a hot day like today.
All right. We want to start to delve into the food. I don't know where to start,
but traditionally in Puerto Rico, are there a lot of rice and beans?
A lot of rice and beans. A lot of plantains. A lot of mojo de ajo. And are they fried?
They are fried, yes. Of course, we have the mashed plantains that we use for the mofongo,
which is one of the most traditional Puerto Rican dishes. We have the tripleta over here,
which is the great sandwich with the three meat. It is awesome. And then, of course,
you cannot miss the empanadas, or we call them pastelitos. Those are with beef. We also have
the option with tomato and cheese and vegetarian. We serve them with sauces. You have the little
spicy one that needs with aioli, the yellow one. And then we have the crema verde. It is great. I
just want you to try that because it's great. Okay. Heather, you get into that one. Yes. Don't
that area is for happy hours. We love a good happy hour. So we have our happy hour
bites. So we have the chicken with the plantains as well. Okay. We have our sliders. We have the
calamari sandwich. This is something that is between two traditions. So between Puerto Rico
and the French one, it's called the mezcla. So it's like a pimento cheese with ham inside of it,
some cornichons on the side, and of course, pan de agua, the bread to spread on top. What was the
idea behind kind of combining those two dishes together? I think we really like to combine
a lot of traditional things from different countries. So I think that chef came up with
that idea. And on the happy hour menu, just like the drinks as well. And of course, we cannot miss
the Puerto Rican Medallia beer that we sell for $1 for the happy hour. $1 beer from Monday to
Friday, three to six. Oh, wow. I'm sure y'all are going to be very popular. Okay. For more
information, if people want to find you, it's in the corner there. Tell everybody where they can
find you. So 1300 Fourth Street of Navy Yard. Also, you can follow us at iglafamosa.com.
Fantastic. Well, congratulations on six amazing years. Thank you so much.
Great deal. Thank you so much. All right. We'll be right back after a quick break.
