Here we go.
Now here's Jason.
He texted me, Jason texted me last night.
He was at the casino, losing, unfortunately, on the cruise ship.
So that was too bad.
But I'm Falun and Pierre is filling in.
Good to be back.
Happy to have you.
Speaking of Jason, I was just telling you guys.
Yeah.
I discovered now with my new schedule, now that I'm doing mornings, I get out of here.
I did what Jason highly recommends, which is going to like a 3 p.m. movie.
I don't remember the last time I did a matinee affair.
But I took my daughter, picked her up early from her like summer program,
took her to see Minions.
No one was in the theater.
Nice.
And 3 p.m. is a perfect time for me to get a nap in.
So I slept through about 45 minutes of Minions movie and she loved it.
It was great.
I mean, in your defense, what time are you waking up now?
That is an early, early wake up call for you.
So I don't blame you.
I might be doing the same if I'm sitting in there in a dark room at 3 p.m.
I catch myself a nap as well.
And it's got that perfect temperature of cold.
Oh, it's so good.
I had a belly full of popcorn at that point.
I was in my prime state, actually.
So Jeff and Bjorn do everything for this show.
Yes, they really do.
And so they send us kind of like a rundown of what we're doing today.
And you immediately hit us with a reply all.
Well, I did.
And because Jeff had asked us, he's like, what do you want to talk about off the show?
And for those of you who are catching me for the very first time on this show,
I do sports around here for us at Fox here in Minneapolis.
So my brain automatically goes right to sports.
And of course, the big talker was the United States absolutely
blanking the bed last night against Belgium.
I was hyping them up the entire time.
I thought we were going to see a different result
from what we've seen in years past in the World Cup.
And it was nothing short of a scared, pathetic,
embarrassing performance from the United States last night against Belgium.
There's no other way to slice it.
This team came in with a lot of momentum.
Belgium actually had looked like a team that was underwhelming for the entire tournament,
came out, flipped the light switch on, Belgium did, and steamrolled over us up in Seattle.
It is, you know, all the goodwill that the team had acquired up until this point,
right out the window.
Oh, right out the window.
Now we, on the Jason Show, we don't talk about sports a lot.
This is like a pretty big, you know, thing.
So we'll talk about it.
I think people were really hoping because, yeah, football, soccer, has become so popular.
Well, it's popular everywhere except here, right?
And it started building the momentum.
And everyone's like, wouldn't it be so amazing if we're hosting and we win?
Listen, I've been hearing the same old thing every 10 years.
When I was a kid playing the game, I was like 10, people would tell me all the time,
just wait 30 years.
And we're going to be the world's power in soccer.
It's 30 years later.
We are no closer to winning the World Cup than we were 30.
No, not, no, don't even give me that, Jeff.
Now, we are no closer now than we were 30 years ago.
I've seen other countries around the world catch up to us in baseball,
including Italy, for God's sake.
Italy's got a good baseball team.
And the United States still cannot put together a soccer team to compete at a World Cup level.
It's embarrassing.
I don't have the same passion you do.
I do feel bad, except for one part of the World Cup.
I have one ounce of passion.
Okay.
I haven't watched a single second of the World Cup so far.
Apologies if that is offensive, except for clips of one player.
And that is all my algorithm is.
I already know where this is going.
I am obsessed with this guy.
Is it because I just went to Norway?
Maybe, maybe that's why.
I knew it.
But you know, his name is Erling, and he is my favorite person on the internet currently.
Erling Holland, yes.
Okay, so let me give you, first of all, he looks exactly like a person you would imagine is from
Norway, okay?
He is massive.
But he, okay, I'm learning, because of Erling, I'm learning things about football.
They said he's the number one striker in the league.
What's a striker?
No idea.
That would be a forward.
He does a great job putting the ball in the back of the net.
There it is.
Yeah, he's doing that, and he's doing a great job.
He is crazy.
He's on social media.
He's very funny.
Jeff was just showing me he owns like a million Hermes bags, which is very cool.
And I know that, actually.
But now that I'm on the algorithm, I'm learning his life story.
Oh, it's so wholesome.
Do you know his backstory?
I don't know if I know the backstory of him, actually.
Grew up in a very tiny village of like 13,000 people in Norway.
Very tiny.
Not even on like a mainstream league.
Like, he's just a nobody.
He gets a little older.
He's still playing.
Scouts come.
They're like, his body's too narrow and frail.
Something like that, right?
Which no one's ever said about me, by the way.
No one's ever like, she's too narrow.
And so, they look at him, and he's just like, all right.
And he's just, he goes for it.
Like, he shows his training and what he does.
He's crazy.
He is a world-class athlete.
He is one of the most feared strikers.
Now you know the term.
One of the most feared strikers across the world.
And you mentioned he's hit up your algorithm at this point.
I've seen a lot of videos of him.
The man has fallen in love with the state of Texas.
He's got cowboy hats.
He's got cowboy boots.
He might be in a Western at some point.
When his soccer days are over, I can absolutely see him moving to LA.
They're going to put him in movies.
I can absolutely see that for him.
Everyone from Europe loves America because we have air conditioning.
And that is what I've learned from this.
If you've ever traveled to Europe and you get an Airbnb or something,
for them to have an air conditioning unit is huge.
So now that the US is out, I can officially put my,
I'm going to say I am Team Norway.
And this is like a little thing that they do.
So when they, they've literally taken over the subways in New York,
and they do the row.
Look at this.
This is amazing.
And since we're based out of Minnesota, home of the Vikings,
I feel like we've got to support our Vikings doing the row.
I think this has been an absolute sensation.
I saw them do it just a couple of days ago when they upset Brazil
just a few days ago to move on to the quarterfinal.
And yeah, you hit the nail on the head right there.
This is absolutely a page out of the Minnesota Vikings book.
We've got the skull chant.
We don't exactly have the row.
We've got to work on the row.
Skull chant.
We can work on the row.
Maybe we can get Holland to come blow the gala horn for a Vikings game.
There it is.
If anybody in the Vikings are watching right now, there's your idea right there.
And then Jeff's like, get him on the show.
Jeff is sending an email to his people right now.
OK, so now that since I'm not watching, who are you rooting for?
Well, this is the disappointment of the United States losing last night.
I'm already pre-mad about what's to come today.
My mom and dad are from Egypt.
So Egypt is very near and dear to my heart as well.
They are playing in less than an hour.
Unfortunately, they're playing against the best player in the world
in Lionel Messi in Argentina.
So I'm not exactly optimistic about their chances.
However, crazier things have happened.
So at 11 o'clock, I'll be right off this set upstairs in front of my TV
seeing if Egypt can pull off a big upset against Argentina.
OK, we got to rewind a little bit.
How did you say that guy's name?
Because Lionel Messi.
So I've been calling him Lionel this whole time.
I'm not kidding.
Is his name not Lionel like Richie?
I would probably go with the Lionel pronunciation of it.
That's probably what I would go with.
Yes.
Yeah.
I butchered his name.
And on the radio today, I said he's out already.
And everyone's like, he's not out.
And I was like, oh, that's my bad.
That's my bad.
Listen, we pronounce things a different way in the United States.
I'm not going to give you flack for that.
When you look at it, you expect to say Lionel.
That's how we say it here in America.
But in Argentina and across the world, they pronounce it Lionel.
He's probably used to hearing it be Lionel.
But I'm not going to dog pile on you for that.
No, I will trust you since you know something about sports.
And I clearly don't.
I will take your word on that one.
If Messi's offended, maybe we can get him on the show, too.
And apologize in person, Jeff.
How about that?
When Jason comes back, everyone from the World Cup will be joining the Jason show for the
first time ever.
I actually want to see Jason interview a bunch of World Cup players.
That would be amazing.
Jason and Messi right here on this set.
I think we can make it happen.
No problem.
OK, we're done talking about sports, I think, for the most part.
We are.
I'm sorry about that, everybody.
No, it was a moment we needed.
Sorry, America.
Much more to come.
The hot dish is coming up next.
I'm on vacation this week, so I'm filling in with Pierre.
Good to be here again on the Jason show.
You guys take such good care of me on the show, I got to tell you.
They really do.
Except there are like white boxes across the room.
We were hoping those were Krispy Kreme.
They're not.
So we're going to work on that for tomorrow.
Yes, yes.
Speaking of a little dish, you ready for some hot dish?
I'm ready.
OK, here we go.
Here we go.
We got the spoons ready?
Do it, Leo.
Jaw dropping, staggering, must see.
Not only do those things basically describe our show today.
Oh, hello.
But also the much anticipated new movie from Christopher Nolan.
Everyone's been talking about this.
My husband is actually going to an advanced screening, I think.
I want to say like this week.
The Odyssey hits theaters next week and the first reactions are coming out.
The movie premiered in London last night, giving critics a chance to see it.
And reviews so far are overwhelmingly positive.
OK.
A Variety writer calls it an astonishing achievement, triumphant, and spectacular.
The LA Times film critic says it's staggering, earthy, ghostly, and touched by humor and
grandeur.
He says it's pure cinema.
And finally, a writer for Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes says the movie is a triumph, praising
Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway.
He says Robert Pattinson steals the show as the villain.
I forgot that Robert Pattinson does play the villain.
Yeah.
And on the press tour, I've been seeing more and more about this.
Matt Damon just said that he tried to get his family to come over as much as possible
while he was filming, because I guess it was it was filmed for a very long time.
And over the like, and it just took so much time out of his daughter's life that he's
like, you guys come visit.
So like, you don't forget I exist, basically.
And another funny thing I saw, Tom Holland says he thought Christopher Nolan thought
he was terrible at acting.
Really?
Because he didn't realize IMAX film.
You could only film on an IMAX, I think, film for like two or three minutes at a time.
So you have to nail the takes.
Every single time.
And so he thought they were kept they kept calling cut because he was terrible
and thought his acting was bad.
And then he learned later it's because IMAX film.
I had no idea, actually.
Me either.
That's why so few films are shot in IMAX.
Or if they do shoot it, I guess it's like short scenes, not the whole movie.
I have to admit, I as a kid, I loved this story.
The story of the Odyssey.
I always found it fascinating.
They actually made a movie that went right to TV back in the 90s.
I forget if it was NBC or ABC of the Odyssey with Armando Sante.
There's a name probably nobody's heard of in a long time, which I thought was absolutely
spectacular, absolutely enthralled with the story.
So I was very excited for this movie.
I was planning on going to see this movie.
And then my wife decided to probably have a child next week when it comes out.
So I will not be going to see this movie, at least not in the first couple of weeks.
We'll see if I can sneak out.
And that was all your wife having a child.
Yeah, that had nothing to do with you.
No, no, I played no role in this whatsoever.
Yeah, no, none.
Yeah, I saw they did the typical Hollywood thing also where Anne Hathaway plays Tom's
mother.
And I believe in real life, she's 13 years older than him.
Right.
Yes.
Now, some people argued, sadly, in that era, that might be historically correct.
Yes, she could have been, which is terrifying.
But that is like one of those Hollywood things.
The only thing I will say, and I do love Christopher Nolan.
I think he does great.
When I think about Dunkirk, I was bored.
And I was bored by Dunkirk.
I hope it's not the same thing with The Odyssey.
Such a great story.
I doubt it.
This is such a great story.
Dunkirk, cinematically, awesome story.
Is that the one with Harry Styles?
Yes.
Is it?
All right.
I think I did see it then.
I was like, oh, Harry Styles is in a movie.
I'll check that out.
You were right away.
Yes, it was.
Up next, people miss work for many reasons, like being sick or having a family emergency.
But how about an erupting volcano?
Sorry, what now?
I know.
That's exactly what happened to Whoopi Goldberg.
This is not a joke.
The View moderator, she was on holiday, and she's in Italy, and was supposed to be back
at work yesterday.
And then the show explained what happened.
And Whoopi is using the old volcano excuse.
What?
I am in Sicily right now, and Mount Etna, who is one of our active volcanoes here in
Italy, decided to go off today.
We have spent most of the day trying to get back to the United States, and all of the
airports are closed here.
So I will be back as soon as I can.
And I know that we've got all kinds of stories about our different vacations.
Well, I think my story just takes the cake.
A volcano ate my homework.
That is insane.
I know.
I mean, no word if Whoopi will be back on Tuesday.
But if you're going to have any excuse, I think you can get out of anything with a
volcano erupting.
Look at that.
I know.
It started erupting last Friday.
The lava flow has now descended nearly 9,000 feet.
It's Europe's most active volcano.
You know how, like, also certain countries have different rules and standards with, like,
activities they do?
Like, America is pretty safe.
They have, like, lots of, like, waivers and things.
My husband and I went to Nicaragua, and let me tell you right now, we went up to a volcano.
Like, I mean, we walked right up to one, and there wasn't even a guardrail to keep people
back.
And I was like, smoke's coming out of this thing.
I'm like, they have different rules here in Nicaragua than America.
That is for sure.
It's fine.
It's all good.
Don't worry about it.
What's the odds that it's going to, like, explode while you're right here?
Come on.
I mean, who knows?
Let's be real.
I didn't research how active it was.
It's OK.
I don't blame you whatsoever.
Next in the dish, a new honor for Harry Styles.
He wrapped up his 12-night sold-out residency at London's Wembley Stadium this past weekend.
That earned him a Guinness World Record for the longest run of concerts at the venue.
Harry beat the old record of 10 nights set by Coldplay last year.
On his final night, Harry thanked his One Direction bandmates,
saying he wouldn't be on the stage without them.
Harry heads to Brazil next, then a 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden,
home of the newly-coupled Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Not of the New York Knicks, but of, yeah, Taylor and Travis.
Yeah, now that you mention it, the Knicks won the title for the first time in 50 years,
and that's now out the door because Taylor and Travis got married.
Well, I was also going to say, going back to Harry for a second,
I feel like he did the Price is Right bit to Coldplay.
He's like, I'll just do, like, one extra night just to break your record.
I mean, he did, like, two, but still, that's...
Also, I love that, like, I think his final show, his pants were unzipped the entire time.
He didn't realize till, like, the very end.
What?
He's just like us, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
Like, we all have wardrobe malfunctions.
It happens to the best of us.
Absolutely.
I wonder if Coldplay is going to go back and try to top it one more year.
Maybe this will be a dueling thing now.
Maybe they'll be like, you know what?
You can have it, my guys, okay?
You can have it.
Fair enough.
Up next, more details are coming out about the epic wedding weekend for
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Guests are sharing a few more tidbits from the ceremony.
We knew Swift walked down the aisle to one of her own songs.
I asked you about this yesterday.
We didn't have the info.
Now we know it was love story played by a string quartet.
Taylor also sang part of her vows.
As for honeymoon, it's on hold for a bit.
Reports are the couple are headed to L.A. this weekend to attend another wedding
for one of Kelce's fellow football players.
Kelce then begins training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs on July 24th.
Okay, so now we have the info, and that was my bad.
I put you on the spot yesterday.
What song?
You should know this, right?
I said I would assume love story, though, so I mean, it made sense.
But I also heard that she said in the vows something along the lines of, like,
she wished she had known him in high school.
They said that he was more emotional in the vows.
Like, he was the one crying more so than, I guess, she was.
And now it's, like, the people who have gone, they're doing the, like,
skirt around question and answers.
Because I listen to a podcast regularly, and a girl, a host that she attended,
and she was kind of, like, avoiding most questions.
But there was a leaked invitation that went out.
I was like, oh, that's so smart, because it had their names watermarked on it.
Because I was like, how did this not leak?
And I was like, if they watermark your name, you can't leak the invitation,
because then everyone would know you're the one that leaked it.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
But she said the girl on the podcast kind of implied that was not the real invitation,
but that they had received these invitations months ago.
So people held on to this secret for months.
How would you feel about singing vows to each other?
I wish I had thought of it, because when you have a voice like this,
that is something you should gift to not one person, but to an entire wedding party, I think.
I couldn't agree more.
I could not agree more.
As for the reception, it seems even this fancy shindig had issues.
According to TMZ, there were long lines at the buffet to get food at the party.
Several food stations were set up inside, offering steaks, pasta, sushi, chicken, and more.
The dessert table had more than 30 different cakes.
Oh, it's my husband's dream night.
Yeah, no kidding.
Each topped with a 3D figure.
A 3D figure, the couple.
Why not? It's stunning.
Listen, I mean, are we really that surprised that there was a long line?
You just told me yesterday she invited like almost all of Hollywood, so I mean.
Everyone was there, and they were all hungry.
And I get, no, and also I did see like some of the dessert, because they said that she
ordered foods from all of her favorite restaurants, so lots of different stations would make sense.
But I did see, because people were live streaming outside of Madison Square Garden,
a van pulled out that had desserts.
They're like, what kind?
They're screaming at the, they just want to know what kind of cake.
And the van hands a box of pastries to him.
It was like a Danish.
It wasn't cake, but the guy was just like ripping into it like,
I'm eating a Taylor Swift wedding dessert.
And it was just so funny.
He was like feral on the street, just eating a pastry.
I was like, I get it.
OK, that does it for you.
OK, I'm not going to fight you on it.
One of Kelsey's friends and fellow football player George Kittle had a little fun at the
wedding.
Kittle and another player surprised Kelsey by dressing like Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels
from the movie Dumb and Dumber, wearing blue and pink tuxedos.
They snuck the looks into the arena in a duffel bag.
I'm trying to see who the other football player can, I might be able to identify him,
but I can't tell behind the sunglasses right now, so.
That's so funny.
They did say that they scanned people also for Metaglasses when they walked in to like
really make sure no one was sneaking photos and videos.
There was a camera there, though, right?
They're going to put out like some kind of.
Yes, but I think that they, like most couples, they wanted to be able to share what they
want to share.
No, well, of course.
No, I totally, I totally get.
But I think I did read an article being like, oh, are they going to put out like a Netflix
special?
I was like, of course they are.
Like, absolutely they are.
The main thing, everyone, everyone just wants to see her dress.
That's like what we all really want to see.
OK, fair enough.
You don't.
I'm sure it was lovely.
Up next, Jay, just days after, just days after officiating the wedding, Adam Sandler had
something else on his mind.
Basketball.
Sandler was in Rhode Island Sunday and reports are he called the Nantucket non-emergency
police line to ask where he could find a pickup basketball game.
Lucky for Sandler, he got a tip and showed up a while later to play some ball.
People who played with him said he has good passing skills and a decent layup.
I know he's always doing that in New York, like him and Timothee Chalamet.
They'll do like a pickup game.
And it's just I would never.
First of all, I'm terrible at basketball and most sports in general, but there is no chance
I would do a pickup basketball game.
Where did he say the Nantucket?
I mean, listen, I know about like, you know, pickup basketball in New York is very big.
I certainly understand that.
But who's playing pickup basketball in Nantucket?
Have you been to Nantucket?
No, I've been out that way once, but it wasn't.
I don't think it was Nantucket specifically.
I was going to say we went a couple of years ago and it's very small island.
I imagine the guys playing pickup basketball in Nantucket have like a cardigan wrapped
around their shoulders.
They're like, you know, I don't know.
Nantucket gives off more of a tennis and croquet type vibe.
Maybe pickleball now, maybe pickleball.
Yes, I could absolutely see pickleball.
Have you played pickleball before?
I have.
I went down to Palm Springs one time, played with my uncle.
He turned to me and he said we were playing against some of his friends, these group of
women who are mid-50s pushing 60.
And he said, these people don't mess around.
No, they don't.
There's no messing around.
I said, how hard could it be?
Smoked one right past me.
And I turned around and I said, I'm out of my league here.
Yeah, you are.
This is what because these people are retired.
They're doing it 24-7.
Young people come on the court thinking they're like, oh, this person's older.
I'm going to you are ripped to shreds.
You are an embarrassment to your family.
Yes, I am.
I think they were very impatient with how bad I was.
So I had to get off the court immediately.
Yes.
All right.
More days still to come.
We'll be right back, everybody.
It's no joke.
So much Taylor and Travis stuff to talk about.
People are sick of it.
But you have to remember, we don't have a king and queen.
It's our royal wedding.
So, you know, that's what we're talking about.
I think that's a fair, fair way to put it.
Now, late night return last night after the holiday break.
Tiffany Haddish is filling in for Jimmy Kimmel this week.
And she hit the street to hear from kids about America's 250th birthday.
When was America founded?
I know it's a long time ago, but like the mini agent by a girl.
Prettiest place in America.
Africa.
And what's the place in America?
Vegas.
What's the ugliest place in America?
Hollywood.
What's so ugly about Hollywood?
The hobos.
He's a king.
What do you think he's the king of?
Is he the king of Argentina?
Yeah.
Actually?
Yeah.
The worst day.
Again, because of hobos.
So these are pilgrims.
What's their deal?
That woman looks like she's staring off to the distance and thinking about dying.
Why do you think she's so serious?
Because death is serious.
Is this for Conan O'Brien?
It sure is.
What do you think America does best?
Invading.
What happened on July 4th, 1776?
Independence Day.
What happened at the Boston Tea Party?
I think a colony snuck onto a ship and dropped all the tea from England.
Wow, you really know a lot about America.
Where are you from?
I'm from Korea.
That is absolutely sensational.
It sounds to me like we've got to take care of this hobo issue happening across America.
That's not how he said it.
He said hobo.
He had an accent.
His parents are clearly complaining.
Along with Hattie, other summer guest hosts include Rosie O'Donnell,
Anthony Anderson, and Jelly Roll.
I still can't get over the hobo kid.
That was amazing.
Oh my god.
All right, next in the dish, something new to watch.
I got a chance to check out three things.
Actually, Falun got a chance to check out three things recently.
So it's time for the Jason Show Watch Club.
First up, a new comedy on Hulu from Mindy Kaling.
You are the assistant to a celebrity stylist.
Were you just checking me out?
What?
No.
It's too bad.
This is our sexual harassment training.
Hands off your coworker.
Now sign this saying that I trained you or you're fired.
Yes, ma'am.
Oh my god.
You gotta chill out and not come on too strong.
Not tonight, pervert.
Why did you do that?
Why are you following me?
I'm not.
I'm walking home.
Oh my god.
What happened to you?
I just met the woman of my dreams.
Not Suitable for Work follows five young people trying to make it in New York.
You seem to like this one.
I buzzed through this.
I do typically like most Mindy Kaling shows.
She's had quite a few.
She's had Never Have I Ever, Sex Lives of College Girls.
And she has a style of comedy that I am a big fan of.
So when I saw this coming out, I was like, OK, I want to check it out.
I compare it to a little bit of an edgier new girl.
OK.
So you have three guys that live in an apartment across from two girls that live in an apartment.
They're young.
They're single.
They're figuring out work, life, dating, all of those things.
A little bit of edge, a lot of humor involved.
And I don't know.
I think it's all those people in that show, too.
They're all people who have been in maybe something you've seen before, but none of
them have had their breakout moment, I don't think.
So I always like Mindy does a really good job of casting and having really inclusive
casts and great, just different storylines.
So anyway, I would highly recommend checking out.
Season one is officially out.
I do not know if it's been renewed for season two yet, but I assume it will be because Mindy
said a lot with like Hulu.
So I feel like that's probably part of her deals at this point.
Thumbs up from Falun on that one.
All right.
Next up, the Legally Blonde prequel L.
Yeah, I watched all these already.
Yeah, you watched all of them already.
I watched all eight episodes.
Now, in the beginning, I had it on as like background noise in my life.
But then I did get into it.
So here, let's start off with the first of all, the whole premise of this makes no sense.
OK, OK, that's a good start.
Now I'm going to go into some positive.
Don't worry.
But it makes no sense because the whole point of Legally Blonde was she'd never been out
of L.A.
She's never been the fish out of water.
This was a wait.
People don't wear pink and like love me immediately here and care about the things I care about.
So had this actually happened and because this is before that, if this had actually
happened in high school, she would have already had that experience.
Right.
So that's why this doesn't make sense.
If you put that aside and just focus on this being a cute show, I think you'll like it.
So the premise is she her family, her dad does a bad nose job.
They got to get out.
He's a plastic surgeon.
They got it.
They got to get out of L.A. for a minute while things settle.
And so they move to Seattle and she's a fish out of water because it's the 90s version
of Seattle.
Everyone's in plaid.
They like Nirvana.
Grunge music.
She's too pink in L.A.
Right.
Now I will say this show is very cute.
It is the exact opposite of what euphoria is.
OK, there it is wholesome and sweet.
And there is a little bit like it's her fitting in and finding her way.
It has cute storylines, but it also there's like a crime that happens with the school.
OK, and she's kind of lawyering it, solving it.
And so I thought it was very cute, something to watch if you want something.
Yeah, to just binge really quick.
I'm sure it's very cute.
I'm very anti prequel.
OK, there it is.
You're not going to like this.
Tell me what happens after.
I don't even know what happened before.
Finally, something found watched on Netflix.
I've had a lot of time, guys.
On vacation a few weeks ago, voicemails for Isabel on Netflix is a new romcom
about a woman leaving messages on her late sister's phone, not realizing the phone number
now belongs to a young guy who starts to fall in love with her.
Interesting premise.
It is.
It's also it'll have you thinking, could you date someone after knowing that they kind of
did this to you?
But this is this has been around for a couple of weeks now.
And I think the consensus is this movie is amazing.
Maybe one of the best romcoms in years.
OK, it is so good.
I now having a daughter, also having a sister in just the opening scenes, I was already
crying because it was like it was really, really touching.
And I think this story you look it looks like it's about the love of with a partner.
It's not.
It's about her love with her sister, her sister.
And it's such a great movie.
It'll hit you in the feels.
It'll make you laugh.
So I would say absolutely of all three.
This is number one.
Then the Mindy Kaling show.
Then L. OK, to watch them in that order.
One of the best romcoms in a long time.
Absolutely.
Wow.
Much more to come, by the way.
No more reviews.
I got all my TV is done at this point.
OK, so much more to come.
We're going to come back with Dale K.
Welcome back, everybody.
So good to be back with you here on The Jason Show.
Dale K is here.
It's the perfect time to get out and garden.
But if you're just starting out, you're bound to make a few mistakes.
I know I probably would make numerous mistakes.
It's about working smarter, not harder here with us.
Dale K, like I said, Dale, great to have you back.
So good to be back.
And, you know, when you think about gardening and you're getting out and doing some gardening,
maybe it's a trial and error thing, right?
Oh, for sure.
It's OK to make mistakes.
You don't want to make them continually.
Or as you mentioned, maybe starting out.
Your mic is off, I think, Dale.
Listen, I'm going to tell you what Dale is saying.
This is the first time I've done TV.
So you don't want to make the same mistake over and over.
So and it's OK to make mistakes.
And these are some of the ones that I see most common.
And one that I really want to touch on is AI or shopping online,
because they're just like everything else.
There are a lot of fakes out there when it comes to shopping for plants online.
And there's this Blue Hosta that's been going on.
Or you see a Blue Hosta online that's out there.
That's it's just kind of it's not there is no Blue Hosta.
So people are seeing it online.
They're like, I'm going to order this like this here.
We have a picture of it right here.
I saw that on Etsy and you'll see it on a few different sites.
But that's just it's just fake.
So my best rule of thumb is to not make those mistakes where
you're not buying something that could be true to name.
Or actually getting good product is go to your favorite local garden shop.
That's probably the best.
Shopping local would be good anyway,
so you could find some native plants and things to put in your garden.
I assume anyway, right?
Just sometimes if you if you're shopping for a tree,
don't go to it like a little flower pop up that just sells flowers in the spring.
Go to someone that sells trees.
But somebody reputable in your area is probably the best.
The second thing that I see people make the most mistake,
and it seems kind of fundamental, but it gets made all the time,
is wrong plant in the wrong spot.
Now, of course, the one that you see a lot of is sunshade.
You know, of course, plants all have different, really good labels.
And there's a lot of information, a lot of good information on plant labels.
And this one's a hosta that got a little bit burnt in the sun.
But there's other mistakes that get made too with plants.
Think of maybe a tree underneath power lines.
You don't think of how tall the tree is going to get.
So, you know, you just got to kind of do your research,
look at the labels, and then kind of get your plant in the right spot.
Well, also, people don't realize how big some plants will get.
And they'll get one for an area.
And then they're like, oh, my gosh, this is tripled in size.
I had no idea how big it would get.
You need to look at all those facts.
That's one that's coming up here is overcrowding as well.
But the one I want to, it seems simple again,
but overwatering is just one of those things that, you know,
it's just like this plant's just like drowning in water.
But this is because this plant, this pot doesn't have any drainage.
So sometimes this just sits out on the patio,
maybe sits on your windowsill,
and you're just continually watering and watering.
But this same scenario plays out in the garden as well.
Soil doesn't drain quite like you think it will.
And plants, there's a lot of things happening underneath the soil
where you can't, you don't know that you're overwatering
until the plant starts to show signs of it.
One really quick tip that I have is always plant,
when you're planting in the garden, always plant up a little bit
because there's always some natural settling.
When you're planting in soil, the plant will settle,
but that way water will drain off and not pool.
So sometimes if you plant just a little bit higher,
that's a really good, that's a really good tip.
Okay. And so what are some other gardening mistakes?
There's obviously maybe fertilizing at the wrong time.
Well, soil health for sure.
Compost is the best thing that you can bang into your garden before planting.
And even side dressing your vegetable gardens with compost is absolutely fantastic.
But soil health gets ignored.
You mentioned fertilizing.
A lot of times we fertilize at the wrong time and also the wrong product.
When is the right time, Dale?
So spring generally is the right time.
Okay. So we're late now.
Well, so we're in that, we're in that mid-season,
but what you don't want to do is fertilize towards the fall,
particularly in the northern, in a northern climate,
because then you're pushing new growth that tends to freeze.
So you don't want to, you don't want to do that.
Another one, and we touched on it just before, is overcrowding.
Sometimes when you do a little bit of landscaping at home,
or you've got plants inside, you know, we tend to plant things together.
And then we forget, by geez, by jingoes, by crikey, plants,
plants, gosh darn it, plants grow.
So then all of a sudden you've got this kind of wild mess of a landscape
that's all kind of growing together.
So you want to make sure that you kind of,
kind of have all those things in place of reading the labels
and kind of giving some plant space.
And then just quick before we go to a break,
just mulching is really, really key for gardens.
Doesn't matter where you live, it keeps the roots cool,
especially if you're in the south, keeps the roots cool,
but also most importantly retains moisture.
Okay.
So you're not out there watering it.
Water, of course, is a precious resource.
You don't want to waste it.
So mulch will actually keep in moisture
and over time will keep plants soil healthy as well.
And then also overwintering, particularly in the northern climate,
that will help insulate the roots getting through winter.
Well, I know that like the mulch is one of the key ingredients
for something we're going to come back and talk about,
which is weeding.
Okay.
We have a lot of weeds.
We have to cover that when we come back
and how to handle all that growth.
And I'm going to keep my mic on.
Okay, perfect.
Dale Kay is here with us,
giving us his top gardening tips and mistakes as well.
We're making the summer and Dale,
I'm looking at this one right here.
I've never seen this tool before in my life.
I'm assuming it's a pruning tool.
No, I've never had to use,
I've never needed to use one before.
Oh, careful.
Well, yeah, I guess I was a little,
I'm just going to put it back right wherever long.
There is a reason why I still have a job.
There's a reason probably why I can have a steak.
Yes.
Maybe once a week.
Yeah.
And that's because of you, Pierre.
Thank goodness.
People like you keep guys like me in business.
I'm happy to help in any way I can.
I really am.
Tell me about this one right here though.
So pruning is another really common mistake that folks make.
There's wrong times to prune, right times to prune.
It is plant specific.
So you've got to do a little bit of research,
but a real common mistake that is made
is plants that bloom early in the spring.
You don't want to prune them late in the fall.
You want to prune them right after flowering
because like the rhododendron that you have there,
and you can maybe just catch a little glimpse
that's already set its flower buds for next spring.
So if you're out there whacking away at the,
a lot of people do fall cleanup or end of season cleanup
and do their pruning then.
So if you're pruning at the wrong time,
you're sacrificing next year's bloom.
So make sure you do your research on,
and rule of thumb,
if it's blooming in the spring,
prune it right after flowering.
Okay.
Also planting too deep.
Planting too deep.
That's one you see all the time.
And I've got a really good example
just next to the table here.
Right here is a graft union
and it's kind of like a nub
where horticulturally we take two plants
and we join them together.
But that little nub there is often,
people think it's unsightly,
so they bury it.
So that little graft union
always has to be above the soil.
That's one common mistake.
And then also my rule of thumb is
when you're buying a plant in a container,
plant it at the same depth.
I mentioned up a little bit.
But plant it up a little bit.
Don't plant it too deep.
Okay.
Plants just get into all sorts of problems that way.
And then my big issue,
waiting too long to weed.
So, you know,
weeding is just one of those
facts of life of gardening.
But don't leave it too late
because the more established they get,
the harder they are to pull.
Dale, look at my,
this is my before and after.
I just did.
So I made a commitment
that I was going to do
20 minutes of weeding a day.
The left is where I had let it,
at the point I let it get to.
And then I did weed it.
But now my entire yard is like this.
So it's killing me, Dale.
I am slowly dying a long death
due to my weeding.
I don't know if there's a better solution.
One thing I will say that I found
is an app that I wanted to share.
And it's called Picture This.
And I'm showing you how to use it here.
Do not spend money on this app.
It's going to pop up
and claim you need to pay.
You hit cancel in the top right corner.
You take a photo of your plant
and it scans it
and it'll tell you if it's healthy.
It'll tell you if it's a weed
or invasive or not.
So that's like one thing I've been using.
So I'm like, is this a plant
or is this a weed?
And that's been helpful.
So that is, you know, apps like that.
Even I've, you know,
I use one every now and then.
I don't know every plant.
But a weed is just a little plant
that's out of place.
Yeah.
It's a very kind way of saying it, Dale.
So what do I do to get that little plant
to stay out of my life?
So just there's some preventatives
that you can do.
Like there's a product on the market
nationally called Preen.
That's the one that will actually stop
weeds from germinating from seed.
Now there are weeds that come up
like perennials from the roots.
So they're a little bit trickier.
So there's all different things.
The mulch that I talked about earlier
that will suppress weeds.
Manually pulling that's
slowly killing you to death.
That's actually one of the best ways.
I know we talked a little bit
about the vinegar and the homebrew.
Yeah, like a homemade.
So the homebrew solution or vinegar
in itself will actually burn.
It just burns the roots or scorches.
So that way they kind of come back.
So manually pulling is often the best.
Oh, OK.
Dale, I gotta tell you, I'm learning so much.
I learn every so much
every time you're on the show.
I love you so much.
It's gonna be steak tonight.
