AI GeneratedThis report previews the all-European World Cup quarterfinal match between Spain and Belgium in Los Angeles. It highlights key player updates, the defensive strength of Spain, and the logistical efforts by Metro to manage fan transportation to the stadium via shuttles and park-and-ride services.
This is going to be a super exciting matchup, an all-European quarterfinal, just a few hours
from now, starting at noon.
And that's right, all eyes will be on 18-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who already is a global
icon.
As for Belgium, they'll be without their key midfielder, Amadou Onana, who ruptured his
ACL against the United States men's national team.
We saw him leave the game, and Belgium will not be an easy opponent for Spain after the
team has come to life in its last three games, where it has scored 12 goals, but Spain has
not conceded a goal yet in this tournament, so we'll see.
Two powerhouse teams there, one last World Cup match in L.A., and one last chance for
Metro to convince fans to leave their car at home.
It's been kind of smooth sailing so far, right?
It has.
Don't jinx it.
Mario is live at Union Station with more on this final mass transit push for this tournament.
Mario.
Yeah, that's right.
In a matter of hours, we're going to be seeing thousands of fans lining up here, tens of
thousands making their way to L.A. Stadium for that crucial match today, Spain and Belgium
trying to stay alive here in this tournament.
So we've been watching here, Union Station getting a little busier this morning, but
it'll be nothing like what we'll see here before the start of the game.
We can tell you that right now 15 direct shuttle routes connect to SoFi Stadium, or as we've
been referring to it during the tournament, Los Angeles Stadium.
And take a look.
Those shuttle buses arriving here shortly.
There have been some suggestions to improve finding, wayfinding after the games, especially
helping fans find their shuttle buses leaving the stadium.
But Metro says security issues have been minimal during the tournament, and that's some good
news here.
And I spoke to a Metro spokesperson this morning here at Union Station who says that fans have
really been surprised by how easy it is to get to the games.
Take a listen.
People have discovered that taking Metro is the best way to get to and from the games.
Cumulatively, we're at about 188,000 rides to and from L.A. Stadium.
We were talking about the amount of work that goes into this, months of planning, if not
more.
Absolutely.
We've been planning this for probably two years.
So we want to make the best experience possible for fans.
We've got 15 park and ride locations across L.A. and Orange County.
You can go to metro.net slash World Cup, find the parking lot nearest you, and it's $1.75
each way.
Yeah, $1.75 each way, and those shuttles will start leaving three to four hours before kickoff.
So we should see people lining up here, lots of them, around 7.30, maybe 8 o'clock.
Back out here live.
Security is tight.
I tried to ask these two security guards who they're rooting for.
They wouldn't give me an answer, so they are neutral this morning.
But clearly you can tell who I'm rooting for.
I've got Spain on my mind, and I'm wearing this mariachi hat.
We're actually going to get a performance a little later around 8 o'clock this morning.
Metalachi.
Not mariachi, but metalachi.
Metalachi.
Wait, so metalachi.
Like metal and mariachi?
Yeah, like a little rock.
You're going to rock out.
Rock, metal, and mariachi.
Yeah.
You're going to rock out.
Yeah.
I'm into it.
All right, Mario, thank you.
Thanks, Mario.
Feeling the spirit right there.
Okay, so the Spain-Belgium match begins at noontime right here on Fox 11.
We're going to be live at 10 o'clock with Football HQ providing pregame coverage.
We'll have Sandra, Kyle Kraska, Mark Rogodino, and stay with us after the match too for our
postgame coverage.
But of course, we're live this morning at the Fan Zone right here at Los Angeles Stadium.
