Welcome to Good Night L.A. I'm Christine Devine.
Crashing waves and crumbling coastlines.
California shorelines are taking
a brutal beating even without a storm yet in sight.
Fox 11's Matthew Sudoff live in Long Beach.
Christine, unbelievable to see these waves crashing against
the boardwalk tonight with just a normal high tide.
But take a look at this damage.
This is from the previous storms and more could be on the way.
Powerful waves still slamming the Long Beach Peninsula.
without a hurricane or tropical storm in sight.
It's the new reality, right? It's terrifying.
The California coast taking hit after hit.
First, Hurricane Marie, then Polo,
and most recently, Tropical Storm Rachel.
Wow. Wow. Look at that water still coming through.
Eight homes now red-tagged, another one yellow-tagged,
and sections of street fenced off.
No one thought that this would ever happen. I've lived here 10 years.
10 years and we saw when the water
was coming here before it just like would splash and we're
like oh it's cute and this isn't cute much
of the historic boardwalk ripped away other sections
buried under feet of sand this berm rebuilt to protect homes
but waves already pounding the
defense the city has reinforced this section
of the boardwalk there's not even a storm right now
and it's still taking a beating the city's plan includes
an 11.4 million dollar dredging project
bringing in tons of sand to hopefully widen
the beach by about 200 feet.
It's not the city's fault that we are being pelted by waves right now.
Monday's high tide around 4.5 feet.
During Rachel, it was more than 6 feet,
while upcoming king tides could be even higher.
Unfortunately, I don't know that there's a lot
that's going to be able to be done until next spring.
Could be a long, stressful winter
for everyone living along the California coast.
We're live tonight in Long Beach, Matthew Sudoff, Fox 11 News.
Thanks, Matthew.
Developing tonight, a community on edge after
a toddler is bitten by a coyote.
We go live to Fox 11's Christy Fajardo in Atwater Village.
Christy.
Yeah, Christine, the toddler is just 16 months old,
and we're told the child is okay,
but people out walking their dogs this evening were taking precautions.
I mean, I've actually started having
to carry an air horn while walking him.
Like many of his neighbors,
Peter Miller is now prepared to scare off coyotes.
He shared photos with us of the animals on cars.
There are also videos on Nextdoor showing them in yards and driveways.
Many of the images captured even before Friday
when the California Department of Fish
and Wildlife says one of the animals bit a 16-month-old toddler.
I've even had coyotes come up to me sitting on the sidewalk before.
It's like, they're pretty chill, actually.
But, of course, you know, there's always going to be maybe one
that is a little skittish or scared or something.
But that's sad about the kid.
The toddler was treated and released, and Fish and Wildlife captured
and euthanized an animal they believe to be responsible
and are waiting on DNA results to confirm it.
But neighbors around the 3300 block of Glenhurst Avenue
where it happened say coyotes are flocking to the area
because a neighbor has been feeding them for months.
and say one coyote was so familiar, they nicknamed him Wiley.
We've called animal control.
I don't know what they could do,
but they said that they did everything they could
as far as talking to the guy on the street who's feeding them.
A fed animal is a dead animal.
So we want to keep them wild.
We want them to stay away from us
and conditioning them to come home.
You know, they're just like dogs.
Conditioning them to come close is not a good idea.
Now neighbors hope authorities will address the issue so they can
go back to walking their dogs and pushing strollers in peace.
Fish and Wildlife says that they expect
those DNA results to come back shortly.
Live in Atwater Village, Chrissy Fajardo, Fox 11 News.
A convicted serial rapist
and Max Factor Cosmetics heir is back living in the LA area tonight.
Andrew Luster was once sentenced to 124 years in prison for drugging
and raping multiple women in the 1990s.
Now the 62-year-old is living in Glendora
on three years of supervised parole.
He must register as a sex offender for life.
Glendora's mayor is criticizing the state
for allowing Luster to live near schools.
Luster's original sentence was reduced to 50 years in 2013.
The state law passed in 2016 paved the way
for his early release for good behavior.
The Ventura County D.A. tells Fox 11 tonight
our office fought at every opportunity
to preserve Andrew Luster's original 124-year prison sentence.
We believe then, as we do now, that drugging women, raping them, and
gloating about the crimes on film requires the strongest of sentences.
Home sales are falling across the Golden State.
The California Association of Realtors reports statewide sales
of single-family homes were down over 6% compared to last year.
with L.A. County seeing an annual decline of nearly 11%.
Rising mortgage interest rates
and affordability challenges continue to squeeze buyers.
New tonight, Beverly Hills is celebrating this,
the grand reopening of the newly renovated La Cienega Playground,
the redesigned park that features separate play areas
for toddlers and bigger kids,
safer rubber surfaces, shade canopies, and a brand new storytime stage.
looks fun. Stay with us. We'll be right back.
Tonight, Russian President Vladimir Putin is
proposing a high-stakes meeting with President Donald Trump
and Chinese President Xi Jinping
next month. Potential summit could take place during
the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
Forum in China. Trump says he's interested in the idea,
but not to discuss the war in Ukraine.
Instead, President Trump says the focus would
be on denuclearization. So far,
the Chinese government hasn't expressed
a willingness to hold such a summit.
Tonight, tensions are running high in Paris after weekend riots and
looting led police to impose overnight curfews until tomorrow morning.
Protests erupted as President Emmanuel Macron faces criticism
for security failings amidst economic struggles across France.
These protests across Europe are fueled by rising food and fuel prices,
poor public services, and housing shortages.
Those who have destroyed must pay.
Those who have looted must reimburse.
Those who have sought to bring down
the republic will have to answer for it.
What is at stake today goes beyond the mere question of public order.
We are experiencing a profound crisis of confidence and authority,
which poses a threat to democracy. Major cities in Italy, Spain,
Portugal and Albania also saw violence and arrests.
Here at home, new lawsuits blaming
San Diego Gas and Electric for the destructive Norte fire
that started Friday in San Juan
Capistrano. It destroyed multiple homes.
Now, attorneys for an evacuee claim a power line
outage occurred near the ignition site.
SDG&E responded to Fox 11 tonight saying the cause
is still under investigation
and they are cooperating with fire officials. The utility
confirms an outage on Circuit 197 the day of the fire.
It says there's no evidence linking
their equipment to the blaze good night la weather

is going to be moving in though and
then as we look at Wednesday
and Thursday that is when we'll be looking out for an October storm
and heavy rain is possible within this storm
It'll come in pretty quick and get out just as quick.
Again, it's going to come our way as we get into Wednesday morning
We'll get the rain kind of in and out
of the forecast area as we get into Wednesday
Thursday, same story.
Friday, we will be dry.
Let's track it for you hour by hour.
As you can see, as soon as 11 o'clock on Wednesday morning
the rain will start to enter parts of Ventura County
and then become more widespread.
There is a chance for some rain for your evening commute on Wednesday.
Thursday, we're looking at some pockets of heavy rain coming in
Looks like during the overnight, very early morning hours,
you can see there when you start to get into the oranges and the reds
That means it could get pretty heavy
even possibly some isolated storms.
And then as we head toward Thursday afternoon, we start to dry out.
So as we add it up for you, this is what I'm expecting
It looks like it's going to be pretty widespread.
The ranges will vary, but some folks could see over an inch
and a half of rain, as you can see there
Getting into your seven-day forecast here
going to be interesting, right, for Wednesday, Thursday.
Tomorrow, no problems for L.A. and Orange County
We're looking at 76 degrees, lots of sunshine.
Obviously, with the rain cool there and the clouds
we're looking at temperatures that will cool down significantly
especially as we get into Thursday.
But Friday and the weekend looking gorgeous here.
Look at that
Lots of sunshine for Saturday and Sunday
Temperatures there in the upper 70s.
For the coast, we're looking at 75 degrees on your Tuesday
Upper 60s on your Thursday
Very different, but temperatures start to rebound nicely just
in time for the weekend there for you as well.
Then I take it to the valleys and the IE.
Lots of sunshine again tomorrow.
Tomorrow's going to be another really nice day.
78 degrees.
We're looking at low 70s as the rain comes
in on Wednesday and Thursday.
Again, some of the heaviest rain looks
to be right now on Thursday morning.
Friday, we're looking at sunshine and 77 degrees.
We even make it in the low 80s
by the time we get into the weekend there.
And then I take you to the mountains
where we see low 60s for your Tuesday.
But look at what we do on Wednesday and Thursday.
Pretty chilly, right?
But a nice rebound there as well as we get into Friday
and Saturday because we've got
sunshine we've got dry conditions
and temperatures that will be in the low 50s as we get into
Friday and Saturday that is a look
at what we're doing Christine, I'll send it back to you

Today the team held a practice at their facility in El Segundo.
Since the departure of LeBron James, there has been a lot of turnover.
There are nine new players this season.
Luka Doncic and head coach J.J. Redick talked earlier

Obviously some things we need to work on,

Man, so close, but not quite.
The 49ers take over.
But then later, one last chance for the Commanders.
This time Daniels will be sacked.
And the Niners hang on to win 23-17 the final.
They are 6-0, the only team with six wins
in the National Football League.
All right, here are the results of our poll question.
Now, 2-4, how do you think the season will shake out for the Rams?
Wow. The Rams fans came through with a lot of votes there.
Nice. We've got a split decision.
We've got out of the playoffs completely,
basically tied with Super Bowl champs. We'll see.
We'll see. Thankfully, we're only six weeks in.
Thanks for playing along. We'll take a quick
timeout. Don't go anywhere.
We're back

that performing does not come as natural as it
once did and she fired back at online critics about Friday's show
and told her fans when she's
on stage she's fully present.
