Kind of like a feel-good Friday moment,
but how about feeling good, making it a weekend thing?
Well, now you can do that.
Imagine bringing fitness, mental health,
and wellness services in our Detroit neighborhoods.
Joining me now live is someone who might make that happen,
Kristen Greenwood.
Hi, Kristen, thanks for joining us.
Hello, thanks for having me.
Of course, tell me about this goal
that's happening this weekend.
So on Sunday, July 12th at 6 p.m.,
we're gonna be hosting a wellness festival,
the Village Wellness Festival,
to raise funds for Detroit's first mobile wellness studio
and also our Nurture 313 initiative,
which is a mobile wellness and education initiative
where we go directly into Detroit neighborhoods
for at least 90 days offering free movement,
free mindfulness, and free education.
And nothing better than free.
This is what I love about these events.
What inspired you to create this?
Just to provide more access to preventative wellness
for the city of Detroit.
I have been poor and I have had money,
and I know that there is a difference
in the quality of life that I'm living
versus most of the people that I encounter
on a daily basis,
but I want people to be happier, healthier,
and more fulfilled in their lives.
And so, yeah, more access is the goal.
Well, and I love that it's a mobile wellness studio.
So they come to you.
Now you're like, okay, now I don't have any,
I have no excuses.
I should be going.
But you also kind of make it in a way
where it's not just like going to a doctor
and sitting there for hours in a waiting room
and trying to get a blood draw or anything.
This is like a real wellness where it can be enjoyable.
How does it all work?
So just imagine us pulling up to your front door
with a full service gym
that also includes a recovery space
for assisted stretch and massage,
and also a stage where we come
to provide sound baths, meditation, and workshops.
So it's an all-in-one place, all-in-one space
where we can nurture you physically,
spiritually, and mentally.
I love this.
So in a sense,
this is kind of like a way to reset, refocus
at a time when a lot of people
might be under high anxiety and stress.
Why do you think it's so important?
I think it's so important just to have tools
to be able to manage the stress,
to be able to build your body
and to have the education and know what the labels mean
when you're going to the store,
just to have the health literacy necessary to thrive.
I love this.
How can people sign up to be part
of this mobile wellness event and get more information?
Well, you can go to thevillageptw.com,
go ahead to the tab that says Events,
and you'll see the Village Wellness Festival.
Go ahead and click Buy Ticket and meet us there.
You know, Kristen, sometimes the biggest dilemma
is trying to go to the gym, just driving to the gym.
So if the gym can come to me, I'm in.
I think this is a great event.
And how can people support the mission as well?
You can go onto our website as well,
or follow us at The Village PTW on Instagram.
There are links for donations on both of those platforms.
Or you could email us at thevillageptw,
I'm sorry, Kristen, at thevillageptw.com.
And if we look further into the future,
what would you like to see?
Would you like to see more of this mobile wellness?
I would like to see this expand
across the entire state of Michigan.
Yeah, it sounds amazing.
Yeah, multiple trucks where we can remove those barriers
to cost, transportation, and child care.
Absolutely, Kristen, it's so good having you on the show
and the studio with us.
And, you know, Sunday's the big day.
What time?
At 6 p.m.
6 p.m.
This will include live performances.
We'll have a hammock lounge
where you can kind of chill or play games.
We'll have food, we'll have a marketplace,
and also mini massages.
Oh, man, count me in.
Yeah.
All right.
