Hello there, I'm Simon, Assistant Head Gardener here at Wallington Garden.
What I love about this walled garden is all the different heights, all the different levels within
the walled garden give a wonderful platform for all the huge plant collection that we have
and it really sets the scene for our fantastic garden. Sir Charles Trevelyan gifted the estate
to the National Trust and as a parting gesture his wife Mary had this feature built to welcome
visitors to the garden. Here we have Phuopsis dilosa, this is one of my favourite plants.
It grows in full sun or part shade, flowers all summer long and bees love it. The walled garden
was built in 1760 and up until the Second World War was a very productive vegetable garden.
After the war the National Trust was gifted the estate and took on the challenge to create this
rather magnificent ornamental garden. I think one of the best things about working here other than
working with the huge plant collection is listening to the fantastic bird song every day.
