As temperatures rise these next couple of days, you're probably going to run towards your A.C.
But is it in good shape for the summer?
News 12's LeAnna Wells spoke with a local HVAC company on how you can keep it from breaking down.
We're all hands on deck when it comes to situations like this.
And in this case, we're talking about the heat.
Michael Bennett is the general manager of Estacio Sila, an HVAC company with headquarters in Norwalk.
He says the call volume triples during heat waves.
Normal day-to-day in the summer could be anywhere from 200 to 300 calls.
We get a high influx every single day.
But then a heat wave like we're running into when it was 100 degrees the last few weeks
and 95 that's coming this week, we could have an influx of up to 700 calls a day.
Thank you for calling Estacio Sila Service. How can I brighten your day?
But before you have to make a call to have your unit fixed,
Michael says you should stay on top of maintenance, almost like taking care of a car.
Having a company like us out there to do an annual tune-up and things of that nature,
make sure your electricals are taken care of, your drains are blown out,
make sure that your refrigerant cycle is checked is really crucial to,
one, making sure you don't have a breakdown during this time of year,
and two, making sure that the efficiency and longevity of your unit is taken care of.
Their most common calls are for leak issues or a unit that's failing to maintain temperature.
When it's 100 degrees, if there's something wrong, that's when it's going to break down.
It's not going to break down when it's 70, 75.
So my best advice is see around the corner, take care of maintenance,
and make sure that unit is, that filter is maintained as much as possible.
