A family vlogs their summer travels through Italy, starting with a wedding celebration in Verona and transitioning to a scenic getaway at Lake Como. The narrator shares details about their fashion choices, the challenges of traveling with a toddler in extreme heat, and the beauty of their accommodations and local excursions.
Good morning, we made it to Verona.
My parents are here, help watch Peasy while we go to a wedding.
How cute does your husband look?
My husband looks adorable.
I picked out his outfit, a linen set from Madewell Men and then I'm wearing a little
linen set from Gap.
It's supposed to be, I think the high is like 96 or 98 today, so we'll see how long we last.
We decided to get out early to go for a little walk, find some coffee before it gets too
hot and then we'll probably just go back to the apartment for the rest of the day.
But so far this town is super cute.
Lots of old buildings, restaurants, shops.
Hey, double check girls, because it's all on you, are we missing anyone?
We're going to do a horizontal first.
Tres, dos, uno.
Everybody look here.
Mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew, mew.
Ideal wedding party, no, ideal wedding welcome party situation.
Pizza, wine, babysitter, aka my mom.
We're rolling.
Would you 10-10 order it again?
I would.
How's the wine?
It's just so like light.
The wine is pretty good.
This is probably my like, I think it's my third glass.
I had Aperol Spritz before this.
And what time is it?
I don't even know what time it is.
I don't wear a watch on vacation.
Oh my gosh, that chocolate is so good.
Cheese.
It's coming.
Full glass there, Brittany.
But you have to be part of the crew.
We're back from a very chill day in Verona.
To be honest, we haven't done much today
because it is still insanely hot.
I think it's the hottest it's been since we've been here.
I think the high was like 98 or something today.
The wedding last night was so much fun.
They ended up having two shuttles.
An early shuttle and a late shuttle.
I think the early shuttle left at like 11.30
and the late shuttle left at like 2.
And right before I wanted to get on the early shuttle,
my husband was like,
we don't know when we're going to another friend's wedding.
Everyone is kind of already married now.
This might be the last European wedding you ever go to.
Totally guilting me into staying later.
And a lot of other friends ended up staying later.
So we stayed until the 2 a.m. bus.
Which I am having regrets this morning.
I think I woke up at like 8.45.
Penelope still woke up early,
but thankfully my parents are here
so they could help out with her.
So anyway, we just kind of passed around
and did a little bit of shopping.
Got some gelato and popsicles
because it's just way too hot outside
not to constantly be eating or drinking something cold.
But while we were shopping,
we walked by this little kid's store
that had these customizable backpacks.
I think it's called Bon Bon
is the name of the store.
I'll drop the address below in the description
if you just happen to be in Verona
and looking for a kid's backpack.
I thought it was really cute.
So we put Penelope's little nickname on here.
Found these cute little patches
and things that she picked out herself.
It'll be super cute for her to take to school.
So that was a fun little purchase
that I was excited about.
I found this top that just feels very soft,
vintage-y, kind of looks like a handkerchief.
I actually got it from Mango.
And the way they had their mannequin styled it
was really cute.
So I think I'm going to try to recreate that
tonight for dinner because it's so hot.
I just needed something that feels very light.
I'm going to wear some linen pants
that are kind of see-through
but wear a scarf around my waist
to kind of hide and distract from that.
So I'm going to get ready for dinner.
Hi guys, good morning. We made it to Lake Como.
I don't know if this hat is doing anything for me
but I feel like I need
some kind of shade or
maybe I'll just wear some sunglasses today.
Anyway, we made it to Lake Como.
We drove, I think it was like a three-hour drive
from Verona.
We are so glad to be here
because it was so hot in Verona.
Let me get this set up.
There we go. It was so hot in Verona
and there was literally zero breeze
and as soon as we got here,
yes, it's very crowded and very busy
but there is just the perfect breeze.
Being right on the water is so nice.
Our Airbnb is actually pretty cute.
It's called Casa Nana
I think and it kind of feels like
a little grandma-y but I kind of love it.
I'll put the link to
the Airbnb posting below
but the posting does not do this place
justice. Even when my husband sent me
this place just so I had an idea
of where we were staying, I was like,
oh, yeah, it's kind of cool.
When we got here and I saw the view
out the window, I was shocked.
I was like, this place is so cute
and I think it was around 300 euros a night
which is kind of cheap for this area
especially if you want to be up high
with a view of the water.
Let me show you the view really quick.
I'm stunned.
This is our view from the living room window.
It's so pretty. I love that you can have
a little bit of the terracotta roofs
and then also some of the water
and the mountains.
It's just absolutely stunning.
And then if we come over here,
we have this little outdoor seating
patio area with
a view of the
church clock tower,
the mountains, the water.
It's just so pretty and down below you can kind of
see everybody that's just walking around
having lunch, having breakfast.
It's truly such a dream.
It is very stunning here. It's already
quite busy. We're staying in
Bellagio and I think we're going to go over
to Menaggio today.
There's like three main cities.
I think it's Bellagio, Menaggio
and then another one that starts with a V.
I don't think it's Bellagio but
there's one that starts with a V and those are like
the three that people will stay in
and then bounce to another one.
We're staying in Bellagio and we're going to go take a ferry
over to Menaggio
for the morning and day
and just kind of check out a different town, do some
shopping, walking around. That's kind of what we
did when we got in yesterday since it was a little bit busy.
We just went and got some sandwiches
and just walked around the town a little bit.
It's great for having a toddler.
Penelope loves saying hi to all
the people and climbing up and down the
stairs and going down all these cute little side
streets so hopefully I can film
a little bit today and show you guys what
the towns and cities look like.
Very beautiful. I highly recommend already
just visiting Lake Como
if it's on your list. I will say it's going to
be very touristy. A lot
of the beaches have already been
pretty busy and
the streets are pretty busy but that's kind
of what you get when you come visit
Europe in the summer in general especially if you're coming
to a city or an area that's
really popular. Another thing that's pretty common to do
is go to a beach club so we're going to do that tomorrow
with P and see how it goes. I think the one that we're
going to has a pool, has a kiddie pool,
obviously has like lunch and drinks
and we're just kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of
we're going to
kind of camp out there all day
and hang out. I would like to kind of
try to do a boat day situation
but we might wait and do that until we're in
Nice or Saint Tropez.
So we might just do little beach clubs while we're here,
walk around the town. It's just so cute
to be able to walk through all the tiny little
streets and corridors and
just explore and putz around.
I'm excited to take you guys around Lake Como because
Verona was kind of a different experience.
It was mostly just wedding stuff. We didn't really
get out in the city much because it was so hot but
here it's supposed to be much better. It's hot but
it's still very windy and you have the water
to kind of jump into when you need a break.
Alright, we have an 8.30
ferry that we're going to try to catch so
see y'all on the ferry.
Whenever there's a playground, my daughter
will find it.
Ta-da!
Just got back from
Valero after a very nice
day at the beach. We went to a beach club
called Blanco
and it wasn't busy at all I think because
it's a Monday and now we just got
home and there's a little afternoon
rainstorm. It's honestly so
calming. I did just send Joel out to
go get some cheese because I was craving
some cheese and as soon as he left it started
raining. But we had such a great little day
in Valero. It's a lot smaller than
Bellagio. I don't even think I
saw one little shop
whereas here you have so many
boutiques and shops and restaurants
and cafes but Valero
is very chill, very small
and cozy and romantic
feeling. So I also feel like that would be a great place to stay
if you want something a little bit more low-key.
Bellagio is definitely a little bit more
bougie, high-end.
Kind of reminds me of Capri if you've ever been to Capri.
A lot of restaurants, a lot of
shopping. We also didn't know that some of our
friends from the wedding were staying in Valero
so it was kind of nice we met up with them
and just kind of had some
other adults to talk to
which is always nice when you're on a
family vacation. Also now that we are
a week into our family vacation I
just want to touch on if
I'm glad that we brought Penelope
or if I wish that we
would have left her at home because a lot of
our friends are kind of doing this trip too
since there was other people at the wedding and they decided
not to bring their kids and just go
solo. I will say those
parents are doing much
shorter trips. A lot of them are
doing a week, maybe a week and a
half. I think we are definitely staying
the longest out of all of our friends except
for one friend that's completely
single and doesn't have a spouse or kids
at all. She's doing three weeks which
totally don't blame her. I would do that too if I
was solo traveling. And so far it has been
really fun. I love seeing
her explore these new
cities and I feel like you always hear
this notion of like
they're not going to remember. Why bother bringing them?
But I do think that she is subconsciously
taking in
so many different cultures and
experiences. She's already saying a lot
of phrases in Italian which is
so cute. And don't get me wrong, there's a lot of
hard things about bringing your kid on vacation
we don't sleep in. We're constantly chasing
her around everywhere still. But I do
think if she wasn't here I would
constantly be just like, oh I wish
Penelope was on this trip with us or
we wouldn't end up staying as long as we are.
So I think it really just depends on the type of trip
that you are wanting to do. Whether you want it to be
an adult trip or a kid trip.
If you want them to experience the things that you're
experiencing. I don't know. I think this trip
definitely would have been fun without her. There were a lot
of moments where I'm like, I'm kind of jealous of our
friends that don't have kids because they can go
to a restaurant in peace. We definitely
went out to a restaurant last night and it broke
the glass. But at the end of the day for us
I think it is just so much more fun
to watch her experience
the things that we're experiencing.
Experience them alongside of each other.
I honestly think the hardest parts are
just how exhausting
it can be. Like I definitely sleep very hard at the end
of the day and then staying in Airbnbs
and places that are not toddler proof
because you're just constantly like watching them
24-7. I don't know, we could stay
in the comfort of our home where everything is easy
she has all of her toys, our whole house is
toddler proof. Or we could experience
places like this and make
really cool memories and have those
memories to share with her when she gets older.
That's funny.
Our last day in Lake Como.
I'm kind of sad about it. I could
have easily spent a whole week
here and we ended up just doing
I think three nights.
Today we're heading over to Monagio
so we're going to take another ferry to a different
city. And this time we already have a planned
Lido day. Yesterday was kind of unplanned
we just kind of stumbled upon it. This one
this one we paid like 90 euros
for the full day of like a chair
and supposed to be a little bit
more upscale. Pool,
beach area. This one also
offers a bit more in terms of
entertainment for kids. There's like a kids
pool, a kiddie pool. I think there's like
a slide area.
